Came here for happy hour and wow by the time we left the place was PACKED! Nice vibe in this place for a date night too. We ordered a bunch of stuff Pizza - it was okay, I like pepperoni more than prosciutto as it's sort of tough versus easy to bite...I did like the pesto flavor on it Calamari - these were very good, although I didn't like the service in strips instead of rings (or just smaller strips) it was just harder to eat Ribs - not the best...I didn't like the sauce (it was very soy tasting not in a good way) and they were not very meaty. Fries - these were good, but with ketchup instead of their aioli Wedge salad - this was fantastic, the nuts really added a good crunch and texture to it Last but not least the floating island - not my thing...the cream was great, the blueberries were wonderful but the main part of the dish was blah for me...not sweet enough. It did look very pretty. If I go back I'd try all different stuff except for the wedge salad and see what else is great. read more

We visited Frederick's Bistro for the second time, this time to celebrate a friend's birthday; it was her request to revisit because it was so good last time; and once again, it exceeded our expectations. The food is consistently delicious, but the service is what truly sets this place apart. I brought a cake for my friend to take home, and the staff kindly offered to set it aside for us. To our surprise, they brought out a fireworks cake and sang to her; completely unexpected and incredibly thoughtful! We ended up sharing the cake with the staff and fellow diners, turning the evening into a spontaneous celebration. Blanca was there mixing up her signature margaritas (so good!), and our server Janet was an absolute gem; attentive, warm, and just wonderful. The restaurant is very nice inside and they serve a lot of regular customers. We were greeted and seated immediately by the friendly staff (I think the owner) as soon as we walked inside. Once we finally got our service started we ordered the spring rolls, chicken soup, Cesar salad, osso bucco, and crab cakes. They also offer bread service which was very tasty. The food was pretty good. The potatoes and osso, needed a bit of salt. The crab cake had a very good ratio of crab to filling. The Ceasar salad dressing was a little off but not worth sending it back. I heard they have good happy hour specials so maybe next time I will check that out. read more

We were looking for a good happy hour restaurant this past Friday and thought of @fredericks_bistro. Happy hour during the week ends at 7pm. Frederick himself seated us. Ryne was our server and a familiar face here. Everything we enjoyed was from their happy hour menu. 2 menu items that we tried for the first time were the Vietnamese Meatballs and Frog Legs. The sauce for the meatballs was very flavorful. The rest were our usual choices: Duck Liver Mousse, Wedge Salad, Vietnamese Dumplings, and Paris Pizza with ham, artichoke, and olives. We were full and just had the right amount of food. The pizza was the only leftover to take home. Quality happy hour with great food and service! Came during the recent restaurant week and everything we had was absolutely amazing. One of the best meals I've had recently. This was my second time here and staff is super friendly, they make sure you've got what you need & are great for helping you choose what's best to get! I will say the only thing that kind of throws me off for an establishment like this is that they charger per person per piece of bread.... Don't get me wrong their bread and butter is delicious, but with so many other places not charging for something this simple it makes sad lol. I visited Frederick's Bistro during happy hour on a Friday. My boyfriend and I sat down at the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender. The bar side of the restaurant was cozy and comfortable. She was so kind and helpful in explaining the menu and giving recommendations and was very attentive the whole afternoon. She said the place is always busy for happy hour, and a place frequented by locals and returnees. We decided to order the calamari, dumplings and the prosciutto pizza. Everything was excellent. The calamari was perfectly tender yet crispy served over Thai noodles providing a unique sweetness to the bite. The dumplings were fresh and light. And the prosciutto pizza was great with a nice thin crust and great flavor. Enjoy photos of our half eaten food because we were too eager to try it all! We ate here during restaurant week. First, they were out of the appetizer that I most wanted, though it was only 7:00. I was told that the other options were good, which was irrelevant if I didn't want those. And in fact, they weren't that good. We were served our wine, but the food took a very long time, and during that time we were not given a bread basket until we asked. When it finally came, I was shocked to get cheap bread like from the grocery store. The rest of the food was disappointing. One of our appetizers and both entrees had similar problems - the protein itself was dull, without seasoning and a bit over-cooked. The sauces were some better, but not enough to make up for the lack. The sauce on the salmon was too sweet and didn't really fit. I finished with the triple mini desserts. The crème brûlée did not have a sugar crust at all. The server offered us a second glass of wine to make up for the very long wait, but we did not need more wine. We suggested comping the first glasses, but she refused. She gave us coffee, but that's hardly the same. We will not be returning to Frederick's. There are plenty of exceptional restaurants in San Antonio. read more

Frederick's Bistro is a solid choice for tasty food in a nice setting. Are there better places? Yes. Are there worse places? Also yes. Frederick's was once a shining star on the restaurant scene. French and Vietnamese fusion at its finest. It's no longer quite so unique as far as food goes, but the quality of service is still excellent. The best things we had during a recent dinner were the appetizers. The spring rolls, the gluten free Vietnamese dumplings, and the escargot were shared by the table, and all of them were delicious with the escargot being the favorite. Definitely save some bread for the wonderful and savory sauce! The entrees are where the creativity stops. Almost everything is served the same way... same sauce (peppercorn or Madeira) and same sides (a small slab of potatoes au gratin and the same veggies which, by appearance, look like they come pre-mixed and possibly frozen from a supplier) on every plate. There are a few exceptions, such as the daily special, but the exceptions are few. The clientele seem to be an older crowd and many regulars. The pricing, in my opinion, is high for what it is. When we ordered desserts, we assumed they shareable based on price ($11-16 per dessert). The chocolate pecan cake, although tasty, was a tiny sliver of two small bites for two people sharing it. I almost thought they split the dessert for us, it was that small, but another slice never came. For what amounts to $5.50 each when sharing, I wouldn't pay someone for only two bites of cake. If you want a pleasant meal in a nice place, Frederick's will deliver, but the "wow" factor is attached to the price more than the meal itself. Appetizers are where it's at, and I would happily go for an assortment of appetizers and wine with friends! It would be wonderful if Frederick's could attain the wow factor it once had. read more

My wife and I came for Christmas Eve dinner. We made reservations by email about two weeks prior. Whoever manages the email account responded shortly after we made the reservations to confirm, well after the restaurant was closed. We only recently started eating out again since COVID started, but this is the first place we have had our temperature checked. The restaurant seems to be split into two areas, half with only tables and the other half a mix of tables and booths near the bar. We sat in a both that was pretty comfortable. Being Christmas Eve, there was a special menu, but I think some of it is on their normal menu. We started with fried Brussels sprouts that were crispy and a little spicy. I got turkey and my wife got ham. Both came with mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce (that was amazing), and a variety of vegetables. Everything was great and we plan to come back to try the regular menu. I had a rye old fashioned and it was a nice size and tasted nice. I saw draft beer and wine on other tables, but did not see a drink menu, so I'm not sure what all they had. I got a glance at the bar on the way out and it looked like it was well stocked. read more

Let me start this is the first time I have ever left a Yelp review as I have never felt compelled to comment on a poor experience in the past. On the positives, the food is great. The biggest complaint however is the nickel and diming of the customers. 1. They charge you $.50 each for bread but put the butter on the table when you arrive to entice you to order. And for those who don't eat bread like the gluten free diners at my table, we got charged per piece regardless. 2. They charge $35 for a cake fee when you bring an outside cake to the restaurant. The fee must cover the candle and the unboxing which I personally do not feel is ever worth $35! Just ludicrous! 3. They charge $4 to split a salad and then the same to split a meal. In the end, my party of 6, paid over $365 and of that, $55 were in the ridiculous fees as above. This restaurant clearly doesn't put diners first and it is a shame as it will be our last time eating at this establishment. I would advise others to look elsewhere when deciding where to eat in San Antonio. read more

I personally would not go in if I can't find a place to park. Wish they could expand the parking lot, there's other businesses in the strip center.
