I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Deb at Saviours Salon for about 4 years (and can't believe I haven't written a review until now)! I have been very happy with my experiences here. Deb is skilled and professional. I get my hair colored (to cover up my grays) here every 6 weeks, and get a color/cut combo done every 12 weeks. I have dark hair, and have found that the color lasts and looks good. My hair is naturally wavy, and on top of that, I like to spend as little time as possible on my hair - Deb has done a great job of giving me haircuts that look attractive while being very low maintenance. Deb's schedule fills up, so I suggest booking your next appointment before leaving your current one in order to get your preferred time. Also, as a heads up, Deb doesn't take credit card, so be sure to bring cash or a check book - this used to bother me, but I've gotten used to it, and it's not a big deal. In addition to being a talented hair stylist, Deb is a lovely person! She's kind, warm, and easy to talk to. Last but not least, the salon itself is a beautiful space and the location at 18th and Mission is very accessible by public transit. I recently returned to Deb's salon after a long hiatus because I moved out of the area. Oh man - did I need Deb in my life!!! An old college friend and I decided to meet up in SF for a girls weekend and we booked a double appointment at the salon. It had been years since we saw Deb (and Christina & Faith), but we felt like we were home again! Deb and the girls were so accommodating and completely refreshed my friend's and my look with full colors and cuts (that I had no idea that we so desperately needed). We walked out of the salon looking 5 years younger (which is a nice treat just before our 37th birthdays)! A month latter my husband is still telling me "oh - I really like your haircut!" and "why has your hair been looking so much better?" Clearly this point has been made but I have no choice but say it myself because it is so true, Deb is amazing. She knows hair. She is a coif artist, no engineer, no both. She is a hair architect! I am one of those middle aged women (and ladies, while she may be young and gorgeous herself, she has the magic to make you feel the same) who never quite had a style, unless you consider long hair a style. My hair waves and curls in all directions and I never know what to do with it. Others have tried to give me a style but the maintenance required just didn't fit my lifestyle or desire to dedicate that much time to it. Deb evaluated my hair quickly and convinced me to go with it as is and wow, it is now sexy and beautiful, and I get so many compliments on it. Best of all, I don't spend one more minute on it then I did before. She really listens to what look it is you want and when you don't know yourself, she intuitively helps you find it. Christina is fantastic. I'd been avoiding a haircut for months and hadn't settled on a salon (even though I'd lived in the area for a few years). A friend suggested I check out Christina (who she followed from Spunk) and I wasn't disappointed. I've been back to her multiple times and will continue to make the trek each time I need a cut. Saviours is the best! I've been getting my hair done by Christina for 8 years. I followed her to Saviours from a previous salon. She was recommended to be my a friend when I moved back to the city, and I've recommended multiple friends to her; pretty much our whole social circle gets our hair done here! She's amazing. I had long hair for years and she kept it healthy and beautiful. Then I trusted her when I wanted a dramatic change, and now I get constant compliments from strangers on my adorable asymmetrical short look. She always takes what I want into account, but honestly after this long I usually say, "I was thinking along the lines of... But whatever you think is best." My friend and I were in the mood to get it done that day and she was able to squeeze us in between clients. Yay! Jody works in a cool place now! This salon is beautiful! Jody is literally the only person who cuts my hair, since I was 12 years old, and she's been cutting my mom's hair since 2000 (we have very different haircuts and hair types, that's how versatile she is!). We've done many kinds of color, cuts long and short, bangs and not, etc etc for my thick, wavy hair. She is lovely and kind and we always have something to chat about. I first started seeing Deb in 2009, when I lived right around the corner in the Mission and worked long hours so needed someone close and open late. I stopped seeing her in 2011 when I changed neighborhoods, but came crawling back in 2018 after getting sick of getting a different haircut every time (from the same person) at the local hipster barber shop. Deb welcomed me back with open arms and it was like I never left. First things first, Deb knows what she is doing and you get a perfect haircut every time. She convinced me to try a couple new things with my hair and it always looks great, so you should listen to her. Second, the online scheduling and reminder system is great and easy to use and keeps everyone organized and on time. Her space is in a great spot in the mission and she always has great music on. She's also open on the later side and on weekends, convenient for people who don't work in the area. Finally, and maybe most importantly, Deb is super cool and great to talk with while you are sitting in the chair, so you feel welcome and the time flies by. I don't live or work anywhere close to the salon but still get there every month to see Deb and get a great haircut. I cannot recommend Saviours enough. read more

Before Deb, I'd only been to two hairstylists. In my LIFE. Then I found this place via web search. I had no idea what I was missing. She's in a new space! The prices are not hiked up. You pay for what you actually get. I've never paid more than $100 for a haircut & color, but it was totally worth it. Deb does a really, really amazing job and it's worth the money. My favorite part about her haircuts is that they grow out really well, so I can stretch out my visits. It's almost a better deal. Also she gives the most amazing head rubs during the shampoo. And she lets you pick out records to play during your cut. Great service. Leave at least 2 hours for your appointment, especially if you're getting color done. Might take a while. read more

I'm having a love affair with my hair! Yesterday Faith Allen cut my hair. Since then I did photo shoot, went grocery shopping, met with a client, and slept. After all of that I woke up to AH-MAZING hair! My wavy-curly hair can be temperamental.. cut it wrong and it goes limp, or frizzy, or likes to impersonate some 80's big hair band. Not only is she incredibly talented on both men's and women's hair (you can give her a picture of a cut you want, and she'll give you something better) but you always get a great experience at her salon. From the vintage chic atmosphere, to a drink while you wait, to her eclectic vinyl music selection, to the easy going nature of everyone who works there, she's got it all. Beautiful hair, makeup, vibe and souls I admit, I'm picky about my hair. Grey can NEVER show, it must be cute even with my limited ability to style it and I get bored easily and need something new on a regular basis. Finding someone to make me love my hair isn't easy. But now I have Deb! Deb is awesome at making me look great - sometimes in spite of myself. She listens carefully to what I want and then starts a dialog on what is possible and what she recommends. I take her advice and I always love how I look. And it's changed over the years. Sometimes super short and sleek, fun peacock colors or normal brown, curlier and loose, you name it. I definitely recommend Deb for hair. I also highly recommend Deb for makeup. I booked her for a makeup lesson and unlike going to Sephora to be sold products, Deb taught makeup theory on how best to use the products I already had. I left with a gorgeous face, tossed the stuff that I bought that would never work and had a very short list of things to buy to finish my makeup kit. She encouraged me to play and whenever I see her, she's happy to review a new look and give me more feedback. Not least important, Deb is also a true wise soul. So, while you're getting beautiful, she's a great listener and offers solid advice on issues and support for your life. If we were a tribe, she'd be the wise (and young and beautiful!) leader steering the rest of us to success. I find BART is easier than driving and parking so I'm not worried about my meter. Christina is the best hair stylist in the Bay Area! She's been cutting my hair long and short for over a decade across a number of salons in the city. Her best features are that she is thoughtful, kind and unpretentious! She will be honest with you if your hair would look terrible in a faux hawk ‍ and instead help you find a cool style that actually works with your hair. SHORT HAIR. If you're interested in cutting you hair very short, Christina is amazing! She will always make you look good. But also after several haircuts I was able to show her photos of myself where I thought I looked best and we were able to really hone down my now signature short hair. Now I just have to say "give me the usual." GENTLEMEN. My boyfriend just used to go to cheap hair places and get his hair buzzed short. Eventually he wanted to have more style to his hair and so he started seeing Christina too. He is so happy with his hair now and she also listens to him and adjusts based on his wishes. He can't wait for his next haircut now. COOL HAIR. This is a review for Jody Kinney, I had no other interactions with anyone else at this salon. I purchased an Amazonlocal deal to be used for services with Jody and called 2 weeks ago to book an appointment for a Friday. Fridays (& Saturdays) are my days off so I specifically requested this day of the week. When my appointment date finally came I went to the address she indicated - Saviours Salon (this was different from the address on the deal). The place was closed so I tried calling Jody 12 times. There was something wrong with the number I was dialing - maybe she was experiencing bad service, which is not her fault, but I couldn't even get a voicemail response. I was finally able to get through and leave a message. I waited for 35 minutes before walking back to my car where I finally heard back from her. She stated that she had my appointment down for yesterday (a Thursday) and doesn't live in the city and wouldn't be able to come by for the haircut. I don't live in the city either and I made it all the way out here to honor this appointment, so I found this casual reply really frustrating. She was completely unapologetic and didn't offer any remedy to the situation. I told her that I thought this reflected very poorly on her organizational skills. (As an aside, if you thought my appointment was the day before, why not call me when I didn't show up?) To this, Jody replied in an exaggerated, mocking manner, "well I'm really sorry, there seems to have been some miscommunication," and then added "you f'ing b*tch" before hanging up on me. There are definitely better ways of conveying your disagreement in a situation, I would say. To be honest, I was more amused than anything else - where on earth did that come from? There was nothing about the scenario that necessitated that kind of vitriol, it was seriously unprofessional, unexpected, and bizzare. While this situation was a complete waste of my time, I'm glad it wasn't a waste of my money as I got refunded promptly by Amazonlocal. read more

This review is long over due. Deb is the.best. If you suffer from a hot mess of curls on your head and have had half a dozen hair dressers destroy your curls - you know the pain of finding a high quality hair dresser. Deb is exactly that. She is very thorough and meticulous which is why appointments with her can last for over an hour just for a cut. She also gives the worlds best head massage while shampooing your hair. She always has great recommendations on new products to try but without all the added pressure of feeling like you have to buy something. Sometimes she does run behind with clients but does a great job of shooting you a text to give you a heads up. You know she's going to give you an amazing cut while you're in her chair so you don't even care if she's running a little behind. I tried several other expensive salons in SF before discovering Deb - look no further... she trumps all those other places. read more

I booked an appointment with Deb on a day that I knew was going to be very difficult for me as self-care. I travelled into the city from the east bay. Less than an hour before my appointment, when I was already on Bart, I received a text asking me to reschedule (this already WAS rescheduled). When I told her I could not reschedule she offered no support or accommodations. When I showed up to the scheduled appointment, she was just beginning another appointment and offered no explanation why she cancelled mine. She left me literally crying on the couch in the salon. While I was there, another woman poked her head into the salon and said "I have such a headache today!" so I can only imagine what it takes for Deb to ruin your day. Go anywhere else. I started seeing Deb 5 years ago when I had long, straight hair and after about 6 months I finally let Deb transform my hair. Since then, there's been no turning back. Really love this place! Laid back with cool and classy ambiance. There is an old style vinyl record player and a nice selection of records you can pick out. Plus my stylist Jody Kinney is here. Been seeing her for more than 10 years and still love her cuts and colors.
