We held a birthday party recently at Silverbrook Farm in Hillsboro for 21 guests. Our host recommended Savoir Fare as our caterer and we are delighted that she did. We began working with Joan, Executive Chef and Owner, a couple of weeks prior to the event. Joan provided us with sample menus and pricing and was very accommodating about changes we wanted to make. The menu included wonderful appetizers for our cocktail hour (the bacon-wrapped scallops were the bomb!) and a very nice combination of main courses with seasonal vegetables for the dinner. Everything was prepared meticulously and served efficiently by her gracious staff. Even their bartender was very professional and friendly to all our guests. We found the pricing for the event very reasonable, considering the diversity and quality of the food served. We will definitely be return customers in the future. I've had an impossible time reaching anyone about catering for my wedding. We've filled out the RFQ forms on the website twice, emailed, and called, with no response, acknowledgement, or even an automatic confirmation email after several weeks (and definitely nothing in my junk folder). I'm super disappointed because I loved the gallery and sample menus, and they're one of only a handful of approved caterers at our venue. read more

Visited Savoir Fare last summer with some friends. Didn't even know Round Hill had a restaurant like this! Excellent food - the main business is apparently catering but they opened up a restaurant as well. Highly recommended. Normally I might give this four stars, but since it's the only one of its kind in Round Hill and highly outshines the options in Purcellville as well, it gets five. I understand they also do business catering as well, and I believe there's a conference room which can be rented out on the second floor for meetings. It's a small place (enter from the parking lot in back), but very quaint. An old historic building complete with painted metal ceilings from a bygone remain, tastefully decorated to add to the ambiance. Go to enjoy a quiet dinner and some local intimacy. Seems like many people are just the residents of Round Hill, who tend to all know each other. Enjoy! read more

What a great find. We got to experience this gem differently than most diners as ours was an on-site party after putting on a show at nearby Franklin Park Arts Center in Purcellville. They put out an amazing spread for a few dozen people and they dressed to impress. The poached salmon was beautiful and moist, light, and delicious. Their spinach dip has a little something extra that had me guessing and eating more and more. Clever mini antipasto "kebabs"--excellent combination of all-veg+mozzarella components, The bacon-wrapped scallops were a little bit too done for me. I gave away the bacon, and that likely made the bare scallop a little bland. A nicely varied cheese and fruit board (love the havarti dill). There was much more and a ton of variety so both the gluten-free and vegan eaters were satisfied. Joanie also set out dessert trays with cookies, double-fudge chocolate chip brownies (back away--they're mine), and lemon bars with a mascarpone cheese topping. mm mm good. My wife and I went with some friends last night, for our first time. When I called to inquire about reservations, I was told it was probably a good idea for a party of 4 or more, so we went with a 6:30PM slot. While the place wasn't too busy when we arrived, it did pick up quickly. So, reservations are a good idea. We were seated promptly, and greeted quickly - by the same gentleman that seated us. One of our friends ordered the Andouille Sausage soup for an appetizer, while my wife ordered a small salad with a white balsamic dressing. Our friend declared the soup outstanding, and only wished he had ordered the larger portion. My wife's salad looked quite appetizing, which she confirmed to be true. For dinner, I had the Curried Lamb Stew. My wife opted for the fish of the day, which was grilled in olive oil (her choice), served with a medley of vegetables. Our friends ordered shrimp and grits, and his wife selected the filet mignon. All of our meals arrived about an hour later. My stew was quite tasty, with tender cuts of lamb in a hearty sauce, with cuts of carrots and onions, served over rice. The portion size was pretty big, and I left some on the plate. My wife's fish was tasty according to her, and the vegetables - especially the zucchini - were cooked just right. My friend enjoyed his shrimp and grits, and declared he would definitely order them again. His only comment was that he had never had zucchini with his grits before. The only disappointment at the table was the filet. While tender, it was cooked to well done instead of the 'medium' requested. I tried a piece, and found it to be more like a slice of slow-cooked roast than filet. Not bad, but not quite what I'd expect in a filet. And definitely overcooked, based on her order. She opted not to return the steak, as it took an hour for the food to arrive. Overall, the portions were spot-on, if not slightly too much for us (and 2 of us are proud members of the Clean Plate Club, on most occasions). The total time in the restaurant, from being seated to getting the check, was 2 hours. Keep this in mind, especially if you're a) starving and b) in a hurry. While this may have been a fluke, it was most likely due to the diversity of food at our table, combined with perhaps a small cook staff and limited space to prepare meals (just a guess). I did inquire as to how old the restaurant was, and found that they've been open for just over 3 years. So I can't write off the timeliness due to growing pains. But if you can handle a slow, relaxed pace, then you'll find the food is worth the wait. Finally, we were told that the menu changes weekly. So another trip is in order, to see what other surprises they can cook up. Also, there are a few local wineries featured (North Gate and Notaviva were options last evening), along with some other national and international selections. And if I recall correctly, they try to source locally where they can, for both vegetables and meats. I give them 4/5 stars, due to the slow turn-around time from ordering to being served. Wow. When you go, if she is offering her watermelon gazpacho, ORDER IT. This is the freshest tasting gazpacho I have ever had from a restaurant or homemade. We checked this place out since they are the caterer for Bluemont Vineyard weddings, and we are considering Bluemont for our venue. The food here is delicious, the staff are so friendly. It was a great experience. We started with the watermelon gazpacho (which deserves as many accolades as it can collect- this stuff was amazing and if I ever get my hands on the recipe I'll protect it with my life). Lightly herbed with basil and garnished with a fragrant basil sprig, this was the perfect combination of sweet, savory, and ever so slightly tangy from the tomatoes and onion. Next we had crab croquettes with a slightly spicy red pepper remoulade. Perfectly seasoned, but these fell apart a little too easily on the plate and the fork. My fiancé had pork chops, I think. I know he enjoyed it as his plate was empty at the end! I had sea bass. Both entrees came with summer squash and zucchini herbed with dill. The entrees were great, but the appetizers were the really memorable items. We also had dessert- apple pie and Mississippi mud pie, both a la mode. The apple pie had typical flavor but fell a little flat and soupy. The Mississippi mud pie was a great balance of dark chocolate and creaminess and wasn't too sweet for a chocolate dessert. We liked that she uses locally grown foods, but this does translate to a smaller menu with fewer choices. After stopping by a local winery, this was their recommendation for a tasty bite and complemented by a vast wine selection (local, regional, and worldwide offerings). Apparently the place has been in business for years as a catering and sandwich shop, and now adds a wine bar and additional dinner offerings to their menu (their website doesn't highlight the full selection yet). Take my word- the food was fantastic, the bread warm from the oven, coming with friendly service in a quaint little dining area (just what I'd expect in Round Hill). All in all the location seats no more than 20 people, with room at the wine area for tastings or glass sales. It was a perfect end to a weekend afternoon. read more

Quaint little place in old house in downtown Round Hill. Has two dining rooms and one lounge area which I assume is for wine tastings. Each dining room only has 7-8 tables. Atmosphere is very casual and comfortable, but it's very loud. If you want to have a conversation with dinner, this is not the place. On to the food. Bread is tasty baquette slices drizzled with herb butter. Only heavily sweetened tea (I was told that the catering side of the business had used up all the unsweet tea earlier in the day). How difficult is it to make more tea? My husband had the crab medusa appetizer. This is basically a crab cake with angel hair pasta inserted into it and then deep fried - hence the medusa looking "hair". Quite tasty especially with the spicy soy aioli - highly recommend! The pasta hair is a waste so just knock it out of your way and enjoy the crab cakes (2 per order). For entrees, I had the fillet (very tender and tasty) served with roasted potatoes (also good) and a sautéed vegetable medley that very briefly touched the sauté pan and lacked flavor. My husband had the gumbo which he said was quite good for this part of the country. The rice had obviously been kept too hot for too long - as in served too hot to eat and he's got an asbestos mouth. On the plus side the shrimp in the gumbo was cooked just right, the chicken was tender, and the andouille sausage was perfect with just the right amount of heat. Service was very good throughout dinner. We were seated immediately. We had reservations, but there were only 6-7 other tables occupied when we arrived at 8:30 (people eat early out here). Our drinks order was taken quickly, food arrived in timely manner with just the right space between courses. The owner came around to check on us quite frequently. After dinner, service was terrible. They forgot us! We were left alone in the room for at least ten minutes before our waitress came to tell us that we had been abandoned since the other three people attending our table assumed that someone else had mentioned dessert. She was pleasantly joking about it, so it was no big deal but I don't like being "abandoned at a restaurant.". Needless to say, we didn't order dessert and coffee as we usually do. Our check arrived very quickly after that. Then we waited for someone to pick up our card while they cleaned and rearranged tables and wandered in and out of the room. This lasted about ten more minutes before I left. My husband appeared about five minutes later saying they apologized for keeping him waiting. Summary: hate to disagree with everyone else, but this is a three star restaurant. The food is good, but not great. It tastes like catered food. Not bad, mostly good, but lacks the spark or sizzle that makes food really good. I think that the service is good and probably much better if you are there earlier in the evening as we were prioritized behind evening clean up. As this was our first visit, we will give it another try later on. read more

The best thing to happen to Round Hill! We ate here for the first time tonight and really enjoyed our meals. We typically have to go closer in to DC to get a great meal. Joan and her amazing team just catered our daughter's wedding a couple of Saturdays ago. Outstanding food and service. We worked together for many months to put everything together, taste food and go over every tiny detail. An absolute pleasure to work with Joan and her staff. We are still getting emails and texts from and her staff. We are still getting emails and text from guests saying how delicious the food was, how efficient the service was. We had on and off rain and her staff were just smiling and organized in spite of that. Very impressive all the way around. Straightforward, honest and a total delight to work with. We love Savoir Fare! Their chef makes the best farm to table food you can ask for. I like all of their salads, but have a special love for the red pear, Parmesan and white vinegar dressing. Their specials are always delicious. My family always loves the lamb, always cooked to perfection. Their desserts change very regularly and are always great. They know how to cook fish perfectly. And the wine selection is outstanding, although we always go back to Bluemont's Farm Table Red. I brought my vegetarian friends to dinner and the chef made us a selection of dishes that was amazing. We had my son's rehearsal dinner here on 9/5/2015. We had tenderloin tips with (German) spaetzel (that was specially made), rock fish, her famous berry and pears salads and veggies. The beef was tender and amazing, the rock fish was out of the his world and the rest of the menu...esp the spaetzel was superb. I can't express how easy it was to set this up and how flexible Joan was with our special dietary requests/needs. The food was beyond our expectations and evidently our guest's bc we were still getting comments....after the wedding reception the next day....and from multiple people. If you have a special event in Loudoun County, look no further than Savoir Fare, which is what we'll do whenever my daughter gets married or for any future event that we might have. My wife and I recently had our anniversary/vow renewal event at the Stables at Bluemont Vineyards, and they use Savoir Fare for catering. I must say that we were a little nervous after our first tasting because whether it was us, or them, there was a lot of food that we just weren't impressed with. Joan worked with us to create a menu that fit more in line with what we like. We WERE impressed with many of the appetizers and had a hard time narrowing down to our faves, and the rustic roasted chicken was amazing. We were not impressed by the salads (not a fan of fruit on the salad), or the beef offerings however. Joan was more than willing to make us a "custom" salad that ended up being perfect. She also spoke with us about what we like in a beef entree and we came up with the idea of a garlic rib roast au jus. Joan said she would call us at some point and set up a time for us to come try it. Well 6 months later after we had to track her down through our event planner, Joan set up a time for us to come. However when we showed up the staff had no idea we were coming and didn't have the food to even prepare for us. Needless to say we left feeling angry and nervous about using Joan for our event. She did call and email an apology explaining about a "personal emergency", so we reluctantly decided to give her another chance. The tasting a week later went off without a hitch, and the beef was amazing. On the day of the event the food was literally the best event food I've ever had. It was more than we could have hoped for. Even though we got off to a bit of a bumpy start, Savoir Fare worked with us to make things perfect and just the way we wanted it. read more

Really a lovely cafe/bistro spot. Food is consistently good. Not a huge menu but what they do offer is prepared with pride and always tastes amazing. Another favorite that works with local farms/growers and who would have thought in Round Hill. Excellent date night location, reservation is probably a good idea for a Friday or Saturday night, but we've never had trouble getting in. Decent wine selections, not extensive, but compliment the menu. Desserts are amazing so save room and when on the menu the Lobster Bisque is a MUST!! My husband and I went to Savoir Fare to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. They could not have been more accomodating and made the evening very special. Took my wife for b-day dinner Wed. We got there a little before 5p but we were greeted and seated. Mellisa was a good server. Friendly, checked in on us at good intervals. The soup was excellent, salad fresh and crisp. Like another reviewer stated: not an extensive menu but none the less a nice variety from fresh fish to steak. The atmmosphere is nice.The service was very prompt,knowledgeable, and courteous. The most important point is the food was fresh, not overcooked, and served hot. That is my biggest gripe about eating out. A little heavy-handed on the salt and butter but very flavorful with a decent portion. The prices are in line with what I would expect for this type of food. One thing is that when I made reservations I told the person taking my call that it was a b-day dinner for my wife but they never came out with a nice treat for her. Not a biggy, just a little surprised that was overlooked. It wasn't as if it was crowded on that day. Didn't try the desert,. Maybe next time. read more
