This was my first visit to the Poughkeepsie location, having dined at the Red Hook and Kingston location many times. The food was delicious. ....the calamari was cooked perfectly as was the eggplant entree. The only down side was the service. We were there for a late lunch and the restaurant was next to empty. Our waiter seemed to think it was better to chat it up with the two females working at the bar than to pay attention to our table. We had to actually stand and prepare to leave for him to come take the credit card for payment. It didn't seem like here was anyone in charge , hopefully that changed before the dinner service started or more customers could be as disappointed in their visit as we were. read more

Came here for wine Wednesday which was quite the deal. Our server Robert highly suggested the zucchini flowers which were amazing. I got the mushroom risotto and my sister had the steak which was cooked perfectly. Robert was very attentive and I would definitely request him the next time I come in! Incredibly uneven service and cooking. Have had some good meals here but tonight's rigatoni with sausage and broccoli rabe was poorly executed in all ways. Pasta was overcooked and broken -- and flavorless from undersalting the cooking water. The sausage itself was burned and hard and the garlic -- cut into huge pieces rather than minced or sliced thin -- was burned as well. For a place serving $20 for a pasta entree, this was just inedible. It wasn't even a busy night; the cook was just lazy. read more

Went to the one in Kingston on Valentines Day last year and it wasn't bad at all, but this newly opened one in Poughkeepsie did not leave a good first impression. By looks of it there always super busy which makes you think it must be the place to go ... think again. The chicken In the chicken francais was very hard and tough , practically inedible, and my friend said they've had microwaved lasagna that tastes better. Super disappointed. Try Stefano's in Wappinger Falls instead for much better food and portioning for the price. read more

Brought my 5 month old son in there to have a nice relaxing lunch. The workers were Vaping in the kitchen the smoke was coming into the front it was disturbing. Don't want my son inhaling the vape smoke the chefs and waiters are blowing all over the place not to mention all over the food. Told the manager and she could care less. Disgusting place. The food is excellent. We were there in October for a nice relaxing dinner. We had told the waitperson that we wanted to relax between the salad and the entree. All of a sudden our entree was served, not by our waitperson, and we hadn't even finished our salads! Our waitperson happened to walk by and saw that our entree had already arrived! Seeing that, she shook her head "no" and continued walking. In less than a minute she was back at our table taking our entree away. She said fresh entrees would be served when we were ready for them! We could not believe it! The only bad thing is that I can't remember her name, she was fabulous! We'll definitely go there again. read more

The food was good, service was absolutely rushed. We had a 6pm reservation for four people, and were never told that we needed to be finished paid by 8pm. We were given our dessert menus at 7:45, and given our drinks by 7:50- at that point, our waitress gave us our check and said we need to be done by 8. We all got a martini...please give me a HEADS UP before I have to slam back my drink and pay a $250 tab. Disappointing. read more

food is good but over priced. had the baked gorgonzola stuffed figs, and while they were good the price is absolutely ridiculous for what you get. $15 appetizer for 5 fig halfs ... completely absurd. they also are cheap with the prosciutto on every app. usually the drinks are weak and a waste of money but this time they were good. had the veal saltimbocca special, was yummy. Nice menu and beautiful bar but there are some things that need changing. read more

Food is really great. The free bread is also exceptional. Dinner is certainly solid but the brunch menu is where this place shines.

Just finished up, portions were generous The drinks were good it's a wonderful area right next to Vassar so if you want to walk the campus after you eat to work off some of that pasta. I'm a local so I'll probably be coming back. read more

So wasn't impressed with our first experience a few weeks ago. Service was awful and food was not much better. We ordered an app and it never came. When our entrees came out I told the waiter he could cancel our app. He apologize and said he'd take it off the bill. Well duh, of course you will considering we never got it. Anyway, we chalked up that first poor experience to it still being a fairly new place and on top of that everyone still getting the swing of things with changes due to Covid. So we decided tonight to give it another shot. I made reservations for 8pm. Arrived promptly at 8 and was told they were just waiting for our table to clear to seat us. To me it didn't look like any of the tables were near completion but Ok, I'll play along with what seems to be a canned response they give to anyone who would like a table. 5 mins goes by, no one gets up, 10 mins goes by still no open tables. 15 mins and still no one moving. The hostess asks my name again and I tell her, Mark for 8pm reservation and she said sorry we are just waiting on our table to clear to seat us! Ha, how original! At 8:20, that's right, 20 mins after our reservation time we finally told them we were leaving to go eat somewhere else. Hostess apologized and said have a nice night. It's bad enough you messed up the reservation but then didn't even do anything to salvage the opportunity. It's called service recovery. Mistakes or unforeseen issues happen all the time. How you handle them is what matters. No offer to buy us a drink while we waited, no manager, nothing. Just sorry, I can't do anything to help you nor do I seem much like I care anyway. Needless to say we left and had a good dinner down the street at Tomato Cafe where the service was excellent as was the food. Can't comment on the food this second time as we never made it past the hostess but if it was anything like the first time we didn't miss much. When we got our entrees the pasta was not good and the meatball had an awful metallic taste and was inedible. We're talking about a meatball, one of the simplest, most basic things to prepare for an Italian restaurant. Anyway, I won't be giving Savona's a third try. Two horrible experiences is enough for me. read more

I've ordered lunch from Savona's before and it was good. Tonight we ordered the chicken francese and crusted salmon limoncello dinners. At first I was a little disappointed that a salad wasn't included but forgot about it once we started eating. The first bite of my salmon dish was the risotto. I was a little worried that it was too Al dente for my liking. It was delicious. The salmon and chicken were cooked perfectly and the sauces were flavorful. The green beans and potatoes were also cooked to perfection. My husband said this is his new go to spot for Italian dishes. read more

First time in a restaurant since the start of the pandemic, and wanted to celebrate fully vaccinations. Had heard nice things about this restaurant. Nice location with ample outside seating. Anyway, we went on a Saturday night. Arrived at 7:00. Place was packed -- outside and in. Not clear to me that they are following the 75% capacity limits currently in place and large crowd of people gathered in doorway waiting for tables -- none masked. All staff were masked. Was told that earliest seating would be 9:30. Thinking that the place might be less crowded then, and given the hope for a really nice, first restaurant meal, we returned. As soon as we were seated (9:40), we were told that they would be closing at 10:00, but if we got our order in quickly, it shouldn't be a problem. Um, ok. Maybe don't tell us to come back at 9:30 if you're going to tell us to hurry up. For the entire meal, we were given the sense that we needed to hurry it up. Fine. What about the food? The food was average at best. Bread to start was stale, coated in herbed, garlic olive oil, which I found too oily. Let me dip my bread into oil. Fried zucchini flower appetizer was fine - good crunch, but the zucchini flavor was drowned out by too much ricotta cheese filling. For main dish we had meat lasagna and rigatoni with sausage/broccoli rabe. The lasagna was just sad. Honestly seemed like something you could get in the frozen food section of a grocery store. Bland. Mushy. And the meat sauce utterly unremarkable. The rigatoni was good, not great. Was not offered any cheese to go with it, and the sausage was your standard ground, salted sausage. But the pasta was cooked well, and it's hard to mess up sausage with broccoli rabe. Would have maybe liked it with a bit more pepper. Would have enjoyed trying more dishes, but as I say, we were pressured to leave. Had to ask for a pen to sign the bill, and noted that pens were not being wiped between customers. All in all a pretty disappointing experience, and I don't plan to go back. Overpriced, average to poor food, and not impressed by the customer experience. read more

Have been numerous times for lunch right when they opened-for pick-up only and then when seating outside and then inside. Went for dinner with 2 friends Wednesday. Never again. No reservation, seated quickly. Short wait for water and bread. Server came shortly after we were seated, took our drink orders. We were seated in the bar. My wife used to tend bar, said to me she just shook your martini for the second time after letting it sit while she chatted with a customer, she then chatted with another customer while fixing my wife's drink. My martini was quite watered down when I finally got it. The bartender spent more time talking than working. I ordered veal Marsala , it has a Marsala water not a Marsala sauce it was flavorless brown water. I sent it back. My wife had a salad that said it had strawberries, one strawberry cut in thirds is not strawberries. The strawberry vinaigrette was soooooo sweet. Yuck. She ate half not worth boxing. They did comp my meal and offered a free dessert. We declined. This place has been alright in the past, but tonight is the last time. read more

We finally were able to try Savona's. We sat outside and enjoyed a very good lunch. We were surprised to get a bread basket of freshly baked bread tossed in olive oil. The dough was very good. We started with the fried calamari appetizer. They were tender and the tomato sauce served on the side was good. The pizza was reminiscent of having lunch on Arthur Avenue in The Bronx. That is a high bar and Savona's delivered. We enjoyed the FIG & GORGONZOLA CHEESE and NEOPOLITAN pizzas. The CHICKEN PEPPERONI PARMIGIANA entree got thumbs up from the chicken parm experts in our group. The add on side salad was a nice size and the dressing was tasty. The bartender knows how to make a good dirty martini, as well as a blood orange Arnold Palmer. Service was attentive and friendly. As tempting as dessert was, we were too full to get some. If you are in a mood for Italian, Savona's offers a great menu with lots of options for all types of food tastes. read more
