Cody is obsessed with this place and we have stopped by several times (even though we don't need anymore spices cuz we have too many spices in our cabinet to count!) They have a huge selection! And if you sign up for their rewards thing on their website, you get a free spice on your birthday month! We stopped in here yesterday so Cody could get his free spice. My fiancé and I recently visited, and were completely clueless on what we were looking for. We went in, we're greeted pretty quickly (not in a hawkish/vulture way!) and she asked us what we were looking for. I wish I remember her name, but she's fantastic. We were looking for a nice blend for duck, and she recommended the Park Hill Maple & Spice. Let me say, it was terrific. The duck tasted amazing, and she also gave a little tip to put some orange juice on it at the end. It was so tasty. A cooks delight! Located outside of the mall, between Romano's Macaroni Grill and Gene Juarez. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A free rewards program is offered. Currently, if a competitors spice bottle is brought in, a dollar compensation is given towards a Savory Spice bottle of choice. Savory Spice offers a nice assortment of spices, herbs, sauces, pickles and cooking gadgets. Savory Spice encourages one to smell and taste almost all of their spices and herbs before committing to purchase. Great feature! I absolutely love that all the spices and herbs can be purchased in an assortment of bag or glass bottle sizes. Each spice and herb is clearly marked with the price of the size option desired. I purchase so many different spices so it's nice when I can purchase in smaller portions. Smaller portions ensure that my spices are used actively to avoid spoilage. The staff and owner were extremely helpful and educational when answering my questions about exotic spices. Hands down my favorite local shop for spices, and general fun foodie items!! We absolutely love the staff here, they're so warm, friendly and helpful. They strive to create a foodie loving community and they're always so knowledgeable! Special shout out to Jacob for always giving us smiles, laughs and amazing goodies! Truly everything here that we've tried has been amazing, but the highlights have to be the varieties of cocoa powder, the artisan soy sauces, their dip mixes, the popcorn/popcorn seasonings and the taco seasoning mix! The general quality of their base spices cannot be beat, and the spice blends are always fresh and wonderfully complex. I also have to commend them for their ordering process at the start of the pandemic, they made curbside so easy, and once even dropped off an order at our door because they had the time! This place is awesome. I like Penzey's stuff since I like to cook, but even though I had passed by Savory Spice Shop, I had not gone in until recently. Glad I did. They have all kinds of blends that Penzey's doesn't. And being a major chile-head, I was very VERY happy to see all kinds of mega hot spices I have not seen ANYWHERE. Got me a jar of ground ghost chile, some ghost chile salt (which probably won't last me a month), and whole ghost chiles. The people working there were very friendly and very excited about their products. Me and the missus got a bunch of different spices and blends. It is also a great option that they allow you to buy in bulk in certain increments. I look forward to many future trips. read more

They have you stand outside the front doors where it's breezy so you can take your mask off as you delight in an eighth teaspoon of something intriguing. We accidentally found this shop while trying to find AMC Movie Theatre in Alderwood Mall area. We decided to stop by this place just because we wondered what sort of spice they'd have...didn't really fully intend on getting anything. Upon entering, we definitely appreciate a friendly female employee coming up to greet us and introduce us to the store, with information on how the shop worked. She was genuine in telling us about the store and we were free to browse around the store...no peer pressure to buy anything at all. Both my husband and I were amazed by the 400+ variety of spices that Savory Spice Shop carries. I don't cook or bake as often but still had fun looking around seeing some less frequently seen items on the shelf. It was actually quite fun looking at random things from popcorn spice to baking spice, bbq rubs and even all the spices for the curry. I also like that there were tester, so you can smell or taste some sample, if that's what you prefer, too. On top of that, if you don't find anything or in the container size you want, you can mix and match whatever you want and they offer customized portion for you. We spent about a good 15-20 in there and ended up getting black onyx chocolate sugar, dried hibiscus, pomegranate molasses, chia seeds from there. If I were to look for some specialized spice, I'd definitely come back to shop at Savory Spice Shop! read more

I recalled a papered-up store front at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood for Savory Spice and Company last time I did a Lego Store visit with the kiddo. When I think spices, often Market Spice (Pike Place Market), PFI (Pacific Food Importers), or my usual grocery aisle comes to mind. But nevertheless, this was placed on the note to self list. Yesterday after picking up the kiddo from school, off we headed to Alderwood Mall to check out its progress and maybe find something unique for a relative's upcoming birthday. This is located across the American Girl store for point of reference. Excellent sign upon entrance is the spicy, enticing aromas and equally inviting layout. We were immediately greeted by a sales person, given an enthusiastic overview of the store, and encouraged to use the 'testers' to smell and taste samples of the various spices, herbs, and custom blends. Volumes and prices are clearly labeled on all items. I greatly appreciate that small volumes are available for purchase (as little as half to one ounce). Keeps it fresh and less waste. Also, if one purchases any of their product line, bring back the original containers and get $1 off your future purchases. Also, don't worry if a tiny bit falls to the floor, we were told all will be swept up at the end of the business day by the resident Roomba. Areas are nicely organized by activity - spices, etc. plus helpful related gadgets, accessories, cookbooks, and recipes. Focused areas included baking, canning, cocktails, general and regional cooking, salts, grilling, sausage making, and so on. It is a place that gets one's culinary brain cranking about tasty food to prepare. Just wished I was present for the official grand opening this past weekend where there were free spice packets and gift baskets that were given away. Amazing - 400 ground fresh herbs and spices and 160 hand-crafted seasonings per their flyer! I was amused that my budding culinarian kiddo spent quite a lot of time in the salt section and relayed his opinions about a considerable amount of ones featured. He also loved the barrel of cinnamon sticks by the front window and the various blends that be used to top popcorn. His enthusiasm was about equivalent to visiting the Lego store afterwards. So after considerable time perusing and sampling, what did I actually buy? (total with no tax was a little over $36) Also as an FYI - they have a frequent buyers system. Since I was early for a meeting, I poked into this shop just to see what it offered. This is a find for foodies and cooks who want fresh spices, and they will mail if you call in your order. The prices are higher than what you find in big box stores, but the freshness is worth the difference. Like previous reviewers, I did not realize this was a chain until I googled it later. To give this store, a great find, credit for the order, you need to call them directly. Shipping is free after a minimum order. The customer service at SS is fantastic. I am always impressed at how helpful the employees are. I found a recipe on the website for Golden Milk Macarons and stopped by the store for a few recipe items, one being Mayan sea salt. I asked if I could substitute regular salt, and the gal who helped me explained why the recipe calls for Mayan, why table salt won't work, and recommended a couple of substitutions I might already have on hand at home. She easily could have said "no swapsies" and made another sale. As a new-ish baker, I appreciated the explanation, and as a customer I appreciated the honesty. The same person quickly located the other items I needed, and at checkout I joked that I'd have to hide the receipt from my husband (because vanilla bean paste is expensive no matter where you get it) so she removed the price tag for me and asked if I wanted her to toss the receipt (yes please). Brand new to the Alderwood Mall, Savory Spice Shop is a wonderful paradise filled with every spice, rub and even chocolate powder available in the market. Granted it is their own branding and packaging but you will find anything from Saffron to Taco blends. You can order by the ounce, similar to TeaVana, and you can ask for the particular amount you desire (either in jar or bag form). They also sell pre-selected packs for grilling and cooking, a sampler if you will. I liked the Latin American and international aisle which has curries and Jamaican jerk to name a few. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They answered our questions and provided suggestions for those items we were searching for. I asked a gentlemen if they had a specific spice from a picture on my phone, that I was running low on-and it stated the majority of the ingredients-and all the ones he showed me were not even close to it.Then he kept on pushing other types of seasonings and at the end he was purely guessing (I can guess on my own-I don't need help). I gave up thanked him and ran for the door. The people in the store are unknowledgeable unless you are asking about very basic items. A haven for cooks!!!!! Beautiful store, excellently laid out and perfect for optimal browsing. The spices, herbs and various mixtures are categorized according to purpose. I love how they offer pre-packaged options as well as buy-by-the-ounce. They also sell containers, mason jars, various cooking tools, books and many other things that I didn't have time to look at; I could've easily spent an hour in this store. Another bonus: they have "tasters" offered of everything you can buy....making it that much more tempting to keep adding on to your purchase. The service is impeccable! The ladies there today seemed so enthused about their jobs and were extremely knowledgeable. I love when employees find it easy to gossip about their product. It gets me excited to return! I walked away with 2oz of cinnamon sticks (which are kept in a giant oak barrel), a small mason jar, a bottle of Tahitian vanilla extract (they have many other kinds as well) and 2oz of pre-made dry parmesan/pesto...Which I intend to use to flavor many different things. This place I will visit over and over again because of the sheer amount of possibilities.......they have everything and more! This is a phenomenal local resource for people who take their cooking seriously. If you're a foodie in search of an elusive ingredient, the odds of finding it here are in your favor, as the selection is extensive. The inventory seems to be arranged in a way designed to inspire; the shopper can find items grouped by style of cuisine (Indian, African, east Asian, etc.), type of food (soups, curries, barbecue, pickling and so on). The proprietor is very knowledgeable and she knows her business well. If you're in doubt about what to get, it pays dividends to ask for a little guidance, and you can always buy a single ounce of something just to give it a try. Beyond the above, the venue is impeccably clean and there really is no substitute for being able to smell and taste what one is about to buy, especially when it comes to higher value spices as are purveyed here. I also love the little recipe cards that they have and that you can buy a spice and then go to their website and find a number of recipes to use with that specific spice. I never thought I could be so excited about spices! This spice shop has all of the spices you need as well as lots of creative spice and seasoning blends. They have sampler containers for most items plus a well-communicated policy that dropping the excess sample on the ground (after trying something out) is totally OK. I had an employee make lots of recommendations for my tastes, answer all of my questions, and even engage in some side conversation! I bought some lemon pepper and it's tasty! Stumbled upon this great little shop in Alderwood Mall while waiting for a phone upgrade at the T-Mobile next door. Very good election, honestly pretty reasonable prices for what you're getting, and there are a few "recipe packets" you can buy which have measured out spices and a card detailing how to cook a certain meal. Pretty neat concept if you've ever wanted to try to cook something new but couldn't quite justify buying a ton of new spice bottles for it! This way you can try it out without walking away with 12 new bottles to clutter up your kitchen. If you sign up for their newsletter you can come in and get promos during the month of your birthday. Honestly, I always sign up for newsletters using a gmail account dedicated solely to newsletters, because of coupon opportunities like this. Another reviewer said to save your glass bottles and that's totally true. They'll refill the spice that was in it and you get a dollar off the price if you bring back the bottle. Also since plastic caps can take a beating, they'll replace your caps if they break. Great service, helpful staff, but I didn't feel like anyone was lingering and breathing down my neck while I took my time and browsed. I absolutely love this place! We went in about two weeks ago not knowing what it was, but feeling excited to explore. We were greeted by the most friendly employee who gave us all of the information we needed to enjoy ourselves while there. Throughout our entire experience, we had the pleasure of interacting with many friendly employees and unique spices. We loved how hands on everything was. We were able to try all of the things we were curious about, so we didn't feel like we were buying something and hoping for the best when we got home. They have incredible spices, sugars, and teas for the home... Plus they have so many incredible gifts! We went home with multiple things for ourselves, and six Christmas gifts that we're excited to give to friends and family. I also joined the rewards club, which includes a free bottle of whatever spice you choose during your birthday month. Thankfully my birthday is in October, so I get to go pick one out soon! Went back on Black Friday and ended up buying a gift for someone for Christmas- a really nice gift pack of 8 jars of spices for around 35 bucks. They even put it in a cute little gift box and sealed it with their label and what not, so I don't even have to wrap it.
