He offered a price and if that was acceptable to the customer, the transaction was made. His wife worked alongside him helping to keep everything running smoothly. Never once did I get the impression that her role was to distract in the process. She was kind and most helpful as Richard was. I have not been to their shop in Northampton but the experience was a positive one overall. Richard did explain at the beginning that offerings would be made in the price of gold on the day. He saw over 20 people over a two day period, and many left with a check written in the spot.

Since the stones were all the same size , usually the center stone is larger, he did a fantastic job on helping me get the right setting so that the center stone does look larger and it all comes together very nicely!!! Unlike many other jewelers he does give you a very detailed appraisal for insurance purposes which is great because most people just never get around to doing that.

Many years ago, I bought a ceylon sapphire ring set in yellow gold for my then-girlfriend (now my wife). I forget where I bought it (if Yelp was around back then I would have bashed them, too). Several years ago, I decided to surprise my wife for Christmas by having the sapphire stone set in a new, fancy white gold setting. I made the big mistake of going to Belanger's. He seemed like a real nice guy and I put my trust in him. I showed him the ring, he looked it over, and then he had me pick out some bands. I forget exactly how much I paid for it, but it wasn't cheap -- maybe $500? $600? But it was Christmas so I paid for it. Belanger took the ring and said he'd order the band and set the sapphire stone in said band. As Christmas was approaching, I reached out to him for a status It was at that time he told me that he discovered the sapphire stone was a FAKE! It was glass, he told me! But, instead of telling me it was a fake when I first showed it to him ... and instead of calling me to let me know it was a fake when he discovered it and BEFORE he set it in the $500+ band, he went ahead and set it anyway. So, with Christmas right around the corner and no time to change plans, I was stuck with this FAKE stone in this relatively expensive setting. I ultimately confessed to my wife that the sapphire ring she'd been wearing for years was a fake. She shrugged and said, no big deal, it was still pretty and the setting was nice anyway. Only the setting SUCKED and it failed to keep the stone secure and kept falling out. I had the stone reset once or twice, before we finally gave up on it and she simply stopped wearing the ring. So later, we tried to trade in the band, which we believed to be worth about $500 to $600 to another jeweler, but he told us it was worth about $50 bucks, tops. So not only did the original jeweler who sold me the FAKE sapphire rip me off, but Belanger swindled me into having this FAKE set into a $50 setting for $500 to $600 bucks. I get it that jewelry has a pretty high mark up but ... WOW was I SCREWED OVER! Wanna talk about Buyer's Remorse? Bad, bad experience. Steer WELL clear of Belanger Jewelers. There... I finally go this off my chest!!! Sincerely, Screwed Over Sapphire Sucker :(
