Wow wow wow! Spent my birthday here with some family and had an incredible time. Our server was friendly, shared recommendations, and gave us time to look over the menu without rushing us. The rest of the service team also continued to check on us throughout the meal, but weren't overbearing. We started with the Prosciutto di Parma and the honey-whipped ricotta was just the perfect amount of sweet. Then, we ordered a number of dishes to share family-style including Tre Scalini (had a great kick), the Ravioli al Limone (holy flavor!), the Mandilli al vero pesto Genovese (beautiful green color), and the lasagna (our table's favorite). There was not one poor thing we had and we would highly recommend. The space is trendy without trying too hard and creates a nice environment for a romantic date or a celebration with friends and family. They seemed to have an upstairs space that looks over the restaurant and could accommodate a slightly larger group. On our first night in Napa, after traveling all day we just wanted a nice dinner, good wine, good food and good atmosphere. This place looks inviting, there was so much potential, to fall short right off the back. After being sat by the friendly host, we were greeted by a server who clearly either didn't want to be there or didn't want us there. After ordering a bottle wine, he pour or first glass and walked off with our bottle, we couldn't pour our own and I believe he even forgot he took it. I sat there a while wanting more wine he clearly had forgotten he took it. After asking about Oyster options, he made a rude remark about me "questioning him on his knowledge at 10pm." Despite that rudeness we still ordered oysters. When we got oysters delivered, we asked the runner for salt and lemons waited a while and didn't come, so I asked our server and and after a few minutes he must have forgotten, like with our wine, so we asked the busser, and after while still nothing. Finally asked the server yet again who didn't seemed so pleased that I asked for anything else. At this point at just appetizers, we were clearly not wanted in here. What a shame. Scala Osteria is excellent and is a local favorite. It seems to always be busy. They have recently opened an upstairs room, we ate on the lower floor. We started with tuna carpaccio. The flavors worked nicely together and set the quality for a nice evening. The Autumn salad had a nice mix of endives, nuts and cheese. Tonight it was missing the apples but that didn't detract from the presentation. The wood grilled fish was nicely prepared with lemons, olives and greens. Excellent. The staff did a great job filleting the fish so we didn't have to fight with the bones. For dessert the doughnuts with vanilla and chocolate sauce was excellent. Three of us came on a Tuesday night with no reservation, and after about a 15-minute wait, we were seated at the counter. It was a little snug since the place was packed, but we didn't mind. The atmosphere is bright and buzzing, and the wine list was impressive. We shared a bottle of Sancerre, which paired perfectly with everything. My friend and I split the pork chop and ravioli, both were absolutely delicious and beautifully cooked. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive throughout the night. Foods (3.9*): Dishes ordered are Pan-seared Brazino, Calamarata con calamari di Monterey and Caprese salad (not on the menu, but part of today's chef specials). - Both Brazino and the Pasta are good, cooked just right and not salty . Especially the Calamarata dish included calamari and sausage, which could be salty from the sausage. However, the sausage portion is double the portion of calamari. It's odd bc the name of the dish emphasized "calamari"! - My friend said the Brazino is very good! - For the Caprese salad, I would change to "Tomatoes with a hint of Caprese"! :) See photo for this reason. Tomatoes are very sweet and fresh. It is a good dish, but there should be more Caprese to match the amount of tomatoes like many other Caprese I have ordered in other restaurants in NA, EU & Asia. Service (2*): Our waiter is very friendly with good service. My complain is the water server. Every time she refilled water at our table, she would reached across the table and refilled the water, no matter if you are eating or not. One time, I was eating , she just reached across the table (even without saying excuse me", refilled and pull back the water pitcher with water dripping into my dish. I was shocked and appalled! At least, she could walked to the other side to refill the glass and fill without interrupting customer eating and dripping water with a trail on the table. Came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and our 4 year anniversary and will happily say we were satisfied. The customer service was absolutely amazing so thank you to Danni & Manny for being a great help to us. We sat in the upstairs area which was quieter and more intimate which we both loved as well. The food was great, we had a lot of different orders to share from including the Kumamoto Oysters which were very fresh tasting and refreshing! (Forgot to take a pic for it). The Bruschetta was okay, not too much flavor but my girlfriend loved it for that reason. The Shrimp and Clam Spaghetti was my personal favorite, a very buttery and delightful flavor. The Veel is definitely good flavor but wasn't my personal favorite with texture. My girlfriend loved it though and will definitely be ordering that again. The Tubetti Cacio Pepe is a fun side to order with a fun shaped pasta that makes for a great texture in your mouth. It is similar to a mac and cheese in my opinion but with a very slight spice hidden in there. The mango sorbet was very smooth in texture, sweet in flavor and felt like it was housemade even. That pistachio gelato was packed with pistachio which was amazing! A lot of good texture with each bite. A lot of places don't put too much pistachio in their gelato's so it is a nice vibe to get. After touring Napa we wanted to go eat at a "nice" restaurant as it would be our last night in Sacramento. So we were able to make reservations here several hours in advance. Reservation was at 6pm we got there around 558pm. They said our seats would be ready shortly. 620pm came about and our table still was not ready. Standing outside as there is no waiting room inside, it was fridgidly cold. So that was a major inconvenience. Only after going in to check again were we told our table was ready...... It is a more upscale Italian restaurant. They have a moderate size menu. Obviously lots of wine options. But they also have some mixed cocktails as well as fresh oysters. Their calamari was really good. Nicely cooked and breaded. Devoured that extremely quickly. Had their bruchetta with greens and olives. That was not good. It was bitter. It was very so what. Even though we were hungry we didnt finish it. It was extremely sub par. I had their calamarata. It was actually really good. I was surprised, especially after their bruchetta. Pasta was cooked amazingly. Sauce was nice and thick. Flavors were really good. Lots of squid and sausage. All the other entree were pretty good as well. We had their lasagna, penne al pomodoro, pork chop and octopus salad. Their Panna cotta was amazing. Creamy, luscious, tasted great. Beautifully velvetty. The inside of scala osteria reminded me of a movie set on Mamma mia! They were busy at peak dinner time so I would recommend getting a reservation in advance! I shared the BLT pizza and the calamari pasta with my friend and the BLT pizza really stole the show! The crust was crisp but also soft in the inside while the pasta gave a bit of spice so that the pizza wasn't tasting too heavy. Very popular restaurant on First Street in downtown Napa! It is very crowded during dinner so reservations are recommended or you can walk in and hope the wait isn't too long. I love that it's always buzzy and lively. My last visit was a little later in the night and we were lucky to be seated right away. The late night menu is a little different than the dinner menu but there wet still a ton of options. We started with the ciabatta and the table shared the Caesar salad and the penne alla bolognese. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was rich and flavorful! We received our food pretty quick and I just had sparkling water since I had been drinking wine most of the day. All staff provided phenomenal service and recommendations from beginning to end. The Capo Spritz was a refreshing start to one of the best meals in life. I also had a sip of hubby's Amore Amaro and it was really good, as well as a sip of my friend's Bruno Giacosa which paired so well with the calamari. We brought our 2018 Sassicaia which we purchased in Greve Tuscany a few years ago. Worth the $25 corkage fee. You can also purchase a bottle from Scala, we saw it on the wine list. The Sassicaia is heavenly and paired well with our dinner. My BF and I came here for lunch today. We sat at the pizza bar as we like to watch them prepare the meals. We started off with the fried green olives stuffed with anchovy paste and Marcona almonds with Rosemary. It was a pretty big bowl and they were delicious for my entrée. I had the fillet of sole piccata, which was served with some sautéed garlic spinach. It was a very small piece of fish, but absolutely delicious. I wish it did come with some carrots or some potatoes or rice to round out the dish for the price that is being charged. My BFF had the mushroom and sausage pizza, which he loved. I felt there were not enough mushrooms distributed evenly throughout the pizza, but there was lots of sausage. It should've been called a sausage pizza. The sausage was delicious. Hands down one of the best restaurants in greater Northern California. I've tried the entire menu and every bite is delicious. Small update from a more recent visit. Sat upstairs and it was nice. While you lose some of the atmosphere from downstairs, it's a nice view and a little quieter. To us, that says a lot about this place. The exterior and interior are gorgeous with an Italian modern coastal vibe. We did not make a reservation but were seated after 15 minutes at the kitchen counter, which we preferred as we got to see the food being made. The staff was friendly and attentive to us. We ordered a funghi pizza, clams, a special pasta of the day (which was a spaghetti with sausages, onions, olives, and Calabrian chili), and a tiramisu. The flavors and texture were on point. For a carb-heavy meal, it felt so light, fresh, and kept us coming back for more. It's been a few months since we had that delicious meal but it sometimes still came up in our conversations. Best Beloved and I had dinner, well he had dinner. I couldn't get a singe bite in me due to having such an unhappy tummy. We were in Napa to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The young lady that took care of us was very kind to us. I had ordered the chicken and rice soup, went to take a bite and my tummy went "Nope!". She noticed right away and came back to see if there was anything else she could get for me. Sadly my tummy just wasn't having any of it. I asked Best Beloved to leave her a bigger tip. Our party of 9 had an incredible night at Scala, largely thanks to our server Brianna. The service she provided was the best we've experienced in a restaurant in years. She was attentive, friendly, and funny. And she knew exactly when to step in and offer great suggestions. The server assistants were also top-notch, stepping in frequently to refill our waters and offering to get us to-go bags when we finished our meal. The stellar service made the evening unforgettable and super-special. The food was also outstanding. I had the pork cutlet with capers and butter -- absolutely delicious! The cutlet was thin with a wonderfully crispy exterior and soft, buttery interior. The sauce on top didn't overwhelm the meat. The portion was so huge I enjoyed leftovers for lunch the next day. Other members of our party got the seafood and meat pastas (universally praised for freshness and perfectly cooked pasta). The appetizers were standouts as well, including the lightly fried olives with anchovies (a real surprise since the anchovies were mellowed by the cooking process but kept their savory deliciousness). The chop salad was also a revelation. Overall, we could not have asked for a better experience. We will gladly return to Scala when we are back in Napa! read more

We were offered two low top bar seats and decided to wait it out for standard bar seats. We grabbed a cocktail and quickly made friends with the locals dining at the end of the bar. We enjoyed hearing their favorite dishes on the menu. I'm not sure if my drink had an official name as I instructed the bartender with my usual line... anything sweet, fruity, and pretty.. surprise me! He did just that! 11/10 for the cocktail! I had a couple oysters that were delicious and ordered the lasagna the dinner. The portion size was very generous. The lasagna was hearty and packed full of flavor. All the bartenders we encountered were attentive, friendly, down to earth! I can see why it's a popular dining spot with the locals and tourists. If I lived in Napa, this would stay in my rotation!
