My husband and I had a lovely date night at Pasta Prego. The space is cozy and intimate, the staff friendly, and attentive. The Caesar salad was light and refreshing. The linguine with prawns, mussels, and clams was also light and incredibly flavorful. My husband had the veal piccata which he enjoyed but said he would have liked a bit less sauce as it overwhelmed the taste of the veal. One of the worst meals I've ever had in my life. We are truly wondering how on earth the reviews are what they are. The bread should've told us everything- old and super stale. The pizza was like cardboard fake frozen style. But honestly frozen pizzas made at home are better. The veal picatta was almost inedible. I'm not sure it was veal and the sides were also like a tv dinner. I'm just so shocked. We had 2 appetizers that were ok. Came here for dinner with my family on a trip, and really enjoyed the cute Italian café vibes--cozy, casual, and welcoming. We started with the bread and dipping oil (EVOO, balsamic, parsley, red pepper, etc.). The bread itself was a bit tough to break apart, but it soaked up the oil well and was flavorful overall (8/10). The calamari was a standout--light, crispy batter, well seasoned, and great texture with zero rubberiness (8.5/10). We also shared the golden and red beet salad, which had a great balance of flavors and textures: crunchy lettuce, creamy goat cheese, and a nice vinaigrette (8/10). For mains, we tried a few dishes. The Pasta Diablo was okay overall--the pasta and sauce were a bit underwhelming, but the shrimp were incredibly succulent and definitely carried the dish (7.5/10). The mushroom risotto with pork chop was very solid. The pork chop was tender, the balsamic reduction was delicious, and while the risotto wasn't as al dente as I prefer, it wasn't overly mushy and still enjoyable (8/10). The veal piccata had nicely cooked veal and a creamy, lemony sauce, but the pasta itself was slightly overcooked (7.5/10). The pork tenderloin was tender, though it wasn't seasoned as well as some of the other dishes (7.7/10). Service was a bit mixed. Our server was attentive and refilled our water frequently, which was appreciated. However, between appetizers and mains, they cleared one person's plate but not the rest, then brought new plates and utensils without clearing the old ones. Visiting Napa for the weekend and decided to make reservations at Pasta Prego at 7 pm on a Friday night. I was craving to try their Chicken Marsala since some of the Italian restaurants didn't have that on their menu. I asked Grok (Elon Musks AI like Google) about a place known for their chicken Marsala and they recommended Pasta Prego Place had a quaint and cozy vibe. Lots of patrons on a a Friday which I'm guessing was a lot of locals. Bread was served with an olive oil mix with balsamic and garlic. I noticed the bread was cold so not sure if that's typical or whether we got one that's been sitting in the kitchen. Wife ordered soup of the day which was a cauliflower soup along with a salad and chicken breast. I got the Chicken Marsala that was served on a bed of spaghetti noodles. The portions was huge and I ate half of it. I'm accustomed to mash potatoes and a side of vegetables with my chicken Marsala so this was different. I had my wife try a bite with the mushrooms and noodles and she liked it. Considering it was presented differently than I'm use to, it was good and the noodles had Parmesan sprinkled on top of it. Service was fine and our waitress did her job but nothing that stuck out as special. Would I go back? I say yes but would for sure would want to compare other Italian restaurants in Napa. Another great meal in Napa, even my picky husband says so He wanted Italian and the concierge at our hotel recommended this spot. The restaurant is very cute, with long floor to ceiling curtains separating the couple's tables on the side of the restaurant. I ordered the linguini and my husband got the spaghetti bolognese. We both really enjoyed our pasta dishes. The linguine had plenty of plump mussels, clams and a couple of shrimp. The bright white wine sauce was tasty and perfect for dipping your bread. My husband enjoyed the bolognese, especially since the dishes were served piping hot! If was a satisfying meal after a tiring bike ride from the Napa wine train stop to Yountville and back. Living in Napa and finding good restaurants is more challenging than you think. There are quite a few highly praised yet mediocre spots, Pasta Prego is not one of them. A quaint little bistro akin to Ciccio in Yountville which is my fave Italian spot in Napa. I had the polenta as my starter. Nicely fried and sitting atop a lovely creamy mushroom broth. Perfectly seasoned and enough for a main. My wife had the calamari which was good but could have used more seasoning. The sauce that came with it was also a bit underwhelming. My main course was the ravioli in a citrus cream sauce. Fantastic hand made ricotta & spinach ravioli in a well balanced lemon cream sauce that paired wonderfully with the Brendal Sauvignon Blanc. My wife had the Shrimp Diablo. Nicely sized shrimp wrapped in a smoky pancetta on a bed of spaghetti in a spicy wine sauce that was full of flavor. These sorts of oil/wine sauced pastas are usually disappointing to me but this was tremendous. The service was great and our server was quite attentive. Pasta Prego is expensive at about $150 for the two of us before tip but it is Napa and it is 2024. I highly recommend this spot and I look forward to returning. read more

I will definitely do a redo of this establishment. It's very hard to review a first time visit when you visit on a holiday. Yesterday my daughter took me out. This was our dinner location. It's a quaint restaurant very intimate. I can imagine it being even remotely romantic on the average evening however, on Mother's Day was kind of chaotic. The waiter was rushed, dropping food like the bread particularly on the table reaching over the other guest in our group to hand Pass hot food which is kind of unnecessary when the table is small. The restaurant is small. There's no need to reach over other people to Pass hot plates at any rate I feel like the man was hurried and stressed and probably had his feel for the day so overall the food was very tasty. The service was OK and I definitely will return for a better experience because it's a lovely little quaint restaurant. Definitely a date night situation. As far as the menu, it's very pasta, laden Italian, which was not what I encounter while in Italy, but every dish on the first plates list were with pasta second plates were more protein centered plates, but still with mostly pasta risotto pasta. I do love balsamic olive oil and cracked pepper with bread however, I did not Really like their choice of bread. It was really really dry rustic bread and it was hard to like even dip because it wasn't cut completely and you had to like tear it really roughly - it is not cute. Yeah I think definitely a redo on a date night- not on a holiday. It was only four of us in a party, but it almost seems like it was too many of us to get like individualized service without feeling like I'm bothering this man's to aske for crack pepper-anyway definitely redo but I do recommend this place especially for a nice Italian meal if you fancy pasta. Came for dinner on Saturday evening and it did look busy. Fortunately there were open tables and was seated right away. From my seat, I can see the chefs preparing the meal. We used the Yelp Reservations app to make a reservation here, and it worked well. I recommend using it if you want to get a table here on the weekend and make your reservation a day before. I loved the interior of this restaurant, as it reminded me of an old restaurant in San Francisco and was enjoyable. It is tiny, so be ready to hear conversations with your neighboring tables, which we are used to in San Diego. The staff and restaurant was super busy as this was Saturday at 6:00 pm but I thought the staff was very professional and handled the crowds there perfectly, major Kudos to the staff and kitchen. I didn't enjoy the food as much as I hoped I would; there were too many tomatoes on my pasta Capalenni, and the pasta itself was undercooked. I don't think angel hair pasta is supposed to be that al dente' and not drowning in olive oil. My husband's dish was a chicken penne, and he said it was "okay." I am not a professionally trained chef; I have to cook a lot of my food due to being vegan, and I also have to limit my exposure to seed oils for health reasons. I can make a much better similar dish at home. Even my husband, who is NOT a picky eater with 0 food restrictions, told me that what I make at home is better. We will not return, as, after reading other reviews here, others had similar experiences with the food. The service and atmosphere were lovely, but at the end of the day, if you spend 90.00 on two dinners and a glass of wine, that food better be on point. read more

The staff was very helpful and got us lined up efficiently and helped us with corkage on 3 bottles of wine. We love Pasta Prego! Looking for a good restaurant in Napa during a trip can be a bit overwhelming bec they're just so many options. But this quaint little restaurant on the corner of Main and Napa caught our eyes. Got married in LA that Friday morning and took the 101, travelled for 9 hours, to get to Napa. It was our first meal after getting married and they did not disappoint. We requested the table near the window so we can have a good view of the street. We didn't get any confirmation and we were almost an hour late of our reservation, so we were surprised to be given that exact table. Although we did arrive an hour before closing time. There were still a good amount of tables occupied on a Friday evening. We ordered calamari and beet salad. Both were SO good except for the calamari sauce which was so-so. Both arrive within 5 minutes. We were surprised tbh. I don't know if we were both starving that we finished the starters within 10-15 mins but we had a bit of a wait for the mains. We didn't mind though. For mains, my husband got the linguine and I got the risotto special - porkchop. Serving size were huge, my husband finished his pasta and I asked him to help me finish mine. We still took a pretty good amount to-go. He loved it but I thought there was too many mussels and clams on the dish and too little prawns. It was well-seasoned, had a good balance of flavors, nothing was overwhelming. They did good with my risotto too. Very nice flavors, sauce blended perfectly with the mushroom risotto and the perfectly-cooked porkchop. We found $120 not bad for good food, great ambiance and service in Napa. Staff were very friendly, would keep checking up on us to see if we needed anything. When she heard we were newly-weds, she stayed and chat for a bit which we appreciated. Although we did stay a bit after closing time, we didn't feel like they were cleaning up on us. Over-all, we had a nice time and we will be back whenever we're in town. The ravioli was really good, especially the citrus cream sauce, but the meat sauce (I had half-n-half) that they use on their bolognese was not good and the meat was rubbery. The ravioli would've been delicious with just the citrus cream sauce. The linguine was the biggest disappointment as they use their tapwater for warming the linguine and in the broth because it tasted like chlorine. The actual seafood was cooked perfectly and tasted great. It's just too bad they don't use a broth or filtered water to make the dish. There's a nice wood bar at the back where you can watch the preparation of the food and there's a TV to catch the games. The chicken Alfredo was the one good meal in our group, the bread and oil before the meal was amazing, up there with the best olive oil I've ever had because they infuse it with citrus and garlic. It was all of the other meals that arrived that really was a disappointment. An underwhelming risotto given the atmosphere ambience and price point. It let me down. Had it been more affordable I could've given it a three stars however given the setting on the price, barely makes it too two. The chicken looked and tasted like it was out of a can. The risotto has a day old mush to it, considering it was that day special underwhelming is being kind. My daughter's Caprese was flavorless, over vinegar, and lacked quantity.
