Ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwich on white bread for breakfast. I was charged $8.55. I asked the cashier how come it cost so much. He told me "because it's grilled" I get to work and look online at their menu and a ham, egg and cheese sandwich is $3.99. So I was charged a $4.65 grilling fee?? Or I was I charged more because I had no egg on my sandwich. I'm confused. I should have ordered Hash Bash for $8.99 - 3 eggs and corned beef hash, home fries and toast or Godfather $8.99 - 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausage, home fries and double order of toast or Local 2222 $8.99 - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes and home fries. Guess I should have paid more attention. More bang for my buck if I would have just ordered an entire meal for 8.99 instead of a "grilled" ham and cheese sandwich with 2 pieces of ham and cheese. How did I never notice this place?!?!!??! Well, like the previous reviewer, i was thinking about going to Viga, then notice Biddy's. I was a little weirded out by Biddy's and wouldn't go in... no I was scared to go in. Lord knows what I will find, then I notice Scali. It was very clean and bright. I quickly notice the long tables with the retro diner chairs. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about, those round swivel chairs. How cool is that? now, for the menu, it's actually quite huge, if you notice tucked away on the right hand corner, there's actually a specials menu. Plus they have some really cute names for their sandwiches! I ended up with the meatball sub and my friend got a grilled chicken salad. They definitely were not skimpy on the chicken. Half her salad was grilled chicken! Overall, I'm sad I never came here. But I'm glad I found it now! read more

I got up early enough on this Saturday morning to grab some breakfast. The waterfront area was pleasant and quiet, but lo-and-behold, it was madness in this little cafe. Luckily, we beat the rush by a few minutes. My sausage, mushroom and cheese omelet for $5.49 here was times and times better than a $10 one I recently had at an up-scaled French restaurant. It was perfectly seasoned. No salt was added. That's rare for me while eating eggs. The homefries were delicious. No ketchup was required. Even more rare for me. Save the black pepper that I can't live without, my breakfast platter was perfect without any additional condiments. Not to mention Scali's enormous portion. I was able to finish only 1/3 of my plate, but felt very satisfied. And what's not to like about sharing a table with waves of construction workers in the area? read more

I miss Scali. Their breakfast is so delicious. Sadly, I'm too lazy to walk down there during the day, and frankly, unless I'm hungover, there's no need for me to eat this much before noon. For just under $4, you get a girnormous plate of food. Two eggs, any way you want 'em (I like mine over easy with cheese), home fries, bacon or sausage, and toast. It's seriously a breakfast of epic proportions; you can see why it's typically what I get for hangovers. Nothing like a gallon of grease to soak up last night's vat of vodka or Magners. I've also heard good things about their lunch menu items, but I haven't had any of them. But it's all pretty inexpensive, so it can't hurt to try at least once. read more

Someone at my work had Scali one day and I was jealous because I love breakfast. I went in and ordered the cheese omelette with toast and homefries. It was a quick wait but when I got my omelette, there were no homefries because they stop making them at 11 (or so) and serve them until they run out. It was only noon and I would have liked an explanation of that before I was expecting them.The check-out lady offered me fries but I wasn't sure if there would be a charge. I was looking for a change of pace for lunch today, so I took a walk. I traveled far and wide around the downtown area, nothing really appealing. For some reason all the other spots in the area had lines out the door, Scali's was manageable. I grabbed some kind of chicken cutlet sandwich, from a guy that made it who clearly didn't want to be there. I have to say that the breaded chicken was some of the best I've had. It was moist, warm, delicious. Overall the sandwich was on the small size, as now 30 mins later, I'm still fairly hungry. But it was a decent sandwich overall. From the reviews on here, this place might sound more like a better breakfast destination than lunch. My main breakfast spot! The food here is always great and the staff always provide great fast customer service! The only problem I have here is that there seem to be different prices every time I come and adding little things to orders can cost you big time. 1 pancake is almost 4 dollars yikes! This place is right across from my office so I do go there quite a bit but I needed to let people know how inconsistent and extreme they are with their pricing. I ordered an omelet with no homefries and an English muffin with an orange juice on the side. I've gotten the orange juice before but the omelet was a new thing for me here. I order and get to check out and he rings me up for $13! I have a tiny 2 egg omelet and an English muffin. I saw the price of the drink when he entered it was $2 so that means $9 for my meal. I didn't make a scene but checked their menu online. An omelet with homefries and toast should have been $6.99. Not $9. AND! I didn't even get the homefries!!! Mine should have been less than 6.99!! I admit, it's nice having eggs for breakfast but I'm just going to walk a bit further and get them somewhere else for half the price. read more

Scali is a pretty solid breakfast/lunch spot in the financial district. They have lots of options and offer fair prices. Sometimes I go and I'm less than impressed but then there are days like today when I have an amazing lunch wrap and think to myself why don't I visit Scali more often?! It's always packed come lunch time so be prepared for an "order quickly and keep it moving" customer service approach from the staff. I'm not offended as it's typical in the area. Great Sandwiches, but only go here if you want to get abuse from the staff and a bad attitude. My office is across from Scali's and the other staff laugh about how rude the staff are. The staff seem to hate their customers and their jobs. Not how I would run a business that's based on repeat business and customer service. I manage an office of 20 staff and have told them how I was treated and they are now not going. They messed up my sandwich. I just asked for no tomato. Whilst they were wrapping the sandwich I noticed that they had filled it with Tomato (no problem mistakes happen in my mind), I told them about this and the guy proceeded to throw a strop and make a massive show of me in front of other customers. He could have been having a bad day. However, the staff are rude every time and I have never once got a thank you or a smile. If you want a good sandwich with terrible service. Go ahead.
