TLDR; Fred's work is exceptional, professional and friendly. He helped us build our dream backyard. We were looking to redo our backyard and we're searching for someone to design it in our vision. We met with a couple landscale designers and after speaking to Fred we decided to go with him and it was a great decision. Fred came to our house and measured everything. He asked us what we wanted and took notes. After a couple weeks we met with Fred again where he presented us 3 different designs. They were very detailed and had a video view of what the yard would look like. Bring able to see it before it's built is super helpful. We made a few modifications, but overall with he was able to take the concept of what we wanted into a really nice design. We couldn't be happier that we discovered Fred at Scancelli Landscapes. We've landscaped multiple yards now and will be going to Fred on any future landscaping projects. We came to Fred with our vision and our budget. He was friendly, responsive and listened to what we wanted. Since he only does design work (as opposed to design-build/contractor) there was no pressure to do add-ons or upgrades. Fred listened and gave suggestions but if it didn't work for us then he would just adjust the design to fit. Fred visited our house so we could explain in detail what we were thinking. We did multiple iterations, of which he created 3D designs to help us better visualize how it would look. Once we had the general concept down, he then went with us to the nursery to pick out our plants. Once the plants were finalized, he then created a final iteration showcasing the layout along with the plants we had chosen! Then he sent us the drawings in digital format and dropped off hard copies for submittal to our HOA. We were very excited and satisfied with Fred's communication and ability to put our vision into an actual design. At this point we thought his work was done, but he wasn't done - far from it! After approval of the design by the HOA, Fred recommended multiple contractors that he had worked with in the past so that we could bid the work out and find the right one for us. Throughout the bidding process, Fred kept in touch with us and asked how the process was coming along and if his referrals were working out. We did go with one of his referrals, and the work was completed about as perfectly as we could expect. Fred even came out to meet with the contractor and make sure that they understood his designs. In our mind Fred's work was done a long time ago but he still wanted to see it through to the end. Once the work was done Fred came out one last time to see the finished job. We've left other positive reviews for contractors in the past but our experience with Fred left us in awe. We could not be happier with the amazing design from Fred and Scancelli Landscapes that totally transformed the landscaping of our 40-yr-old front and backyard into a resort where we will spend countless hours entertaining. Let me just start by saying that Fred is great!!! I got Fred's connect via a referral from a friend when we were looking for a designer to help us with the landscape design for our new home. I reached out to him and he was very responsive and we met at the property which was still under construction at the time. I explained to him the initial plan we had and what we wanted to do and how we wanted to use the space. He shared pictures of the landscapes he had designed and asked me to send him some pictures of what we liked online and in a few weeks he came up with 2 designs for us to review. He sent us the virtual rendering of the 2 designs within a few weeks. Once we reviewed the designs we met with Fred again and picked elements that we liked from the 2 designs for the final design. He also spent 4-5 hours with us at a local nursery to help us pick all the plants for our space which was especially helpful since we didn't know much about plants. Next we spend a few days choosing the hardscape tiles and Fred was also very helpful with that selection process and he recommended stores to visit. By this time we had moved in and he came to our house and spent a good amount of time with us helping us narrowing down what will work with our home and the design. Once we had decided on the material we would use he made a final design and generated all the detailed plans that we would need for the city and HOA approvals. Fred also recommended a few contractors that he has worked with in the past and who he thought would be good to execute the design. He also helped us submit the plans for the HOA approval and later helped the contractor with the city approvals when the city needed additional information/documents. We are very happy with Fred, he is very knowledgeable and a great designer. He has a lot of experience and points out potential pitfalls and design elements that can become a problem either from an implementation point of view or from a city/HOA approval standpoint. He is a very nice person and super easy to work with. He listens to your ideas and concerns and addresses them in a very timely manner. I can't tell you how please we are with Scancelli's work. I am one that does a lot of research into whom I choose for any work and Fred went above and beyond our expectations. Fred sat down with me and my wife and patiently listened to all of the concepts we wanted for our courtyard and backyard. My wife and I have very different tastes and he was able to present design ideas that incorporated both of our preferences. As a matter of fact, he was able to provide several options for us to choose from and we ultimately made a blend of two of the options. Today, we have a backyard that we couldn't be more happy with and design elements that "wow's" all of our guests. It's a perfect place for the family to lounge at any time of the day, yet fully functional as an entertainer's domain. Above all of this, he came in so reasonably priced versus all of these other landscape architects, it's hard to believe. To boot, he provided all of the proper designs (2' x 3' paper copies) to submit to the association and landscaper which made the entire process extremely smooth. These are very professionally done as well with a copy for plant design and light/landcape design.
