I want to say that I could not be more happy with the service that I got from Waiman. I purchased a bedroom furniture in November and my mother purchased a bookshelf. I was concerned that the items might go on sale for Christmas or New year and Waiman suggested that I wait and have the furniture delivered in December. That way I would have 30 days Grace from delivery date in case the items went on sale. I checked today and one of the items did go on sale so I immediately called and got a refund. Waiman and the nice lady who answered the phone could not have been more accommodating. On another note, I love my Reflections dresser and night stands. I love Scandinavian Design! I have not done much furniture shopping in my lifetime considering I've really only knew and could afford Ikea but now that I'm finally moving into my own apartment, I've started to do more research and frequent more furniture shops. What I will say is that Scandinavian Design offers modern furniture at a reasonable price and the quality is much higher than that of Ikea. They have a 1 year warranty on the furniture they sell and what I like most about them is that their furniture doesn't look or feel cheap. I came here the other day to purchase some of the bigger items for my place including a couch, coffee table, side table and bed frame. They have a Design Deal going on right now where they are marking down certain items to generate popularity but they're different from sale items since sale items have an expiration; the salesmen told me that Design Deals are for a longer period of time. I got a sectional couch originally priced at $1500 for $1100, a king sized bed frame originally priced at $699 for $599, a coffee table for $199 as a display price but they ended up having 2 new ones in the back! and a side table display for $99. They do charge $99 for delivery but that includes simple install and all the items I mentioned are considered simple install. I'm now playing the waiting game as my items are set to delivery in a week. If you are looking for nice, modern furniture and can pay a little more than Ikea pricing for quality, check this place out! Side note, not sure how many locations there are but the one in San Mateo is huge! Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours here if you are just starting your furniture shopping. read more

Last year, they agreed to sell me an Atlas pedestal table from the showroom (the DeAnza showroom staff has a part to play in this as well). I had my eye on a dining table for months and hopped on a sale where it ended up being 12% off. After purchasing and setting up delivery, I go online to check out chairs and find that there's a 15% storewide sale. Bummer, but doesn't hurt to ask for an additional 3% off (hey, that's a decent bottle of wine right there!). After a few email exchanges with Brittney, we got it squared away. Received a text message noticing me of the refund and I just had to email Brittney back to thank her. Awesome customer service, people who take their jobs seriously and go above and beyond--I mean waaaay beyond--what's expected of them, e.g. I was looking for something specific, wanting to learn about and test out a "zero gravity" chair, which I'd researched a bit about (though apparently not enough :-). So when I inquired, the gentleman who helped me, and I should've gotten his name, informed me they didn't have any. But what was remarkable was how he used his resources and connections to actively--proactively--look up places within the area that might carry one, and directed me to them. He didn't have to do this, but did. Unusually kind and sweet, such things I never forget and was endlessly grateful. Sometimes I can get a little "attached" to things and i have a hard time letting go of the past. This is due in large part that I can be very sentimental. My bed, which I had for years held many special memories. It was my first piece of "real adult" furniture that I had ever purchased and it was the first thing that entered my first apartment. After many years it was time for this boy to wed and make the commitment to take step into buying a home. My wife and I agreed to upgrade a few things before we moved in, like the flooring, new appliances and even install new fancy shower doors. But when the discussion of replacing my bed came up I put my foot down and said there would be no way that I would let this happen. Well after five years of being married and not ever getting quite used to that annoying squeak the frame would make with even the slightest movement I finally caved. It was time to retire my old friend and search for a new bed. We both thought this would take weeks and maybe even months, but it actually only took about 15 minutes. We were met by a very helpful salesperson who showed us around and took the time to explain the differences in quality, construction and different kinds of wood (heh I said wood) of each bed. When we finally came to a cherry low profile constructed in Oregon bed, we knew we had both found the one! Delivery was on time and a snap and had our bed was assembled and installed and ready for use within just a couple of weeks. No more squeak and even though it's a lower profile bed we discovered that it actually has more storage space underneath and has added another place where our cat can throw up. Next up? A surprisingly large store furniture store tucked into downtown San Mateo. The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're having a bit of trouble deciding, give one of the associates some information (like size of the room and type of style you're going for) and they can recommend a piece. Be aware that in addition to the stylish pieces of furniture are pieces that can be customized to your living space. The last few times I've visited, the stock of pieces of furniture that I've liked were very low (if not zero) and would not be back in stock for a month (or more). Don't forget about their "clearance room" in the back full of discounted items. and other As-Is items littered through the store. Also, there is a small parking lot specifically for Scandinavian Designs customers in the back. The associate response time may vary. Beware of their "warranty ". Bought an expensive stressless chair. Like the chair. It broke while under warranty. Contacted the store etc. No calls to update status after 3 weeks. Called them again and was told the part was not in US and would not be here till Sept. REALLY ? And no loaner. Not acceptable customer service for the price you pay for their furniture. Scandinavian Designs cover a whole range of quality furnitures and I find that the sales reps here are very honest. We worked with Anne today and she had no problem telling us which pieces were solid wood frames and which weren't. Granted, I'm sure she just wanted to make a sale, but the fact that she actually listened to our opinions and tried to match us with quality pieces that "suit our taste" was refreshing. Came here last weekend and checked this place out and I liked what I saw. I browsed around for about 20 minutes until I saw exactly what I wanted. An awesome sized motorized desk for $500 sale, which is very hard to find. I was immediately helped by a very friendly and informative sales guy and he made the purchase a breeze. I was told that I had to pick up the desk at their San Carlos warehouse on Tuesday, which was only 10 minutes down the road. I came in when I was told and they had it ready for me and helped me put it in my car and that was that. I actually really like the furniture here much better than what is at IKEA. Yeah, it's a little bit more, but it doesn't have that IKEA look that a lot of their furniture has. I've bought my entertainment center, a dresser, and a marble bistro table here. A couple things people might not expect that they do well: Sofas. Another thing: Rugs They have a lot of nice modern rugs (often an oxymoron) at reasonable prices (big ones are usually $400-$600). Ask for the website for where to order them from and you'll see a huge selection. The San Mateo store has about 20 or so rugs on display on those thingys that hang from the ceiling. This place is SO different from the Berkeley location, you can definitely tell this place accommodates a totally different crowd. The Berkeley one is more geared toward college students, this one is more practical for families and businesses. HUGE selection in this very spacious store - felt like the furniture just never ends and there's always another set of stairs or another room to explore!. A lot of the chairs look very modern - made me think of The Jetsons cartoon...There were a couple paintings I liked, though I couldn't quite figure out what they were depicting. Tons of tables and sofas and shelves and desks, yet I couldn't manage to find anything that would fit my needs. Sigh. At least this location has a bathroom in the store for use (unlike the Berkeley one...). The most memorable moment was when a customer inquired about a small table stand. The saleswoman asked the customer what she planned to use the table for. The customer said probably a cup or something. Oddly enough, the salesperson responded that the table is off-balance/slanted so anything you place on it will slip off. Whoa. Talk about honesty. What's the point of even having the table anyway? Bought a Cepella sofa set from the San Mateo store. Great designs available here and staff is friendly. We did have an issue with the product. The sofa seemed old and used as the seats were noticeably soft and there was a foul smell on one side of the sofa. However, when we contacted them about the problem, they replaced that particular sofa piece for us. Once, the new piece came, it was definitely much firmer than the previous one. My wife and I had a great time visiting this location. The inside of the store is much bigger than the outside makes it look. There's even parking around the side! We found a bed frame and dresser we liked, had an easy time paying, and the woman helping us loved our baby daughter. $99 for delivery to Hayward and assembly feels SUPER reasonable, especially since it's for any number of items. Amazing deal. I got an email confirming delivery time, and the time was at all times updated. The link provided to me told me I was stop 10 of the day and not just a 3 hr window that was promised, but down to the half hr window that it would actually be. There was also a way to see where the truck was in real time. Super impressive. Why can't USPS or UPS do this for deliveries? So, furniture looks great, fairly priced, delivery went super smooth. Their discount policies are nice and fair, and the furniture materials they use are much better than other stores in similar price range.
