The food was not what it used to be. I remember when they were located in Emeryville on San Pablo. The food was higher quality in taste but now i will never eat there again. I wanted prawns but they gave me the frozen box shrimp. Some people don't know the difference between prawns and shrimp but I do. They shrimp is low budget but high in price. I paid over $40 for my meal that I did not eat. I didn't want to call to have them cook it again or something else because I don't want anything from there. I had lunch with a friend today at Scends, and the food and service were both excellent. I ordered 6 pieces of fried snapper with a side of potato salad and corn bread. Everything tasted great, and the fish was fried perfectly. The portions were generous and reasonable priced. The owner, Dion, is a really nice guy, and he would come out and talk to the customers periodically. I ordered the turkey wings in the past, and they are HUGE. I will definitely be back. read more

Delicious food, friendly staff, central location, and quick service. I've eaten here a number of times and the food and service is consistent. Hot when served, several hot sauces to choose from and house tartar sauce. Sweet tea is delicious! Catfish, fried chicken, and pork chops all perfect. This review is longgg overdue! My family and I have been going to Scends for about 10 years. I do have to say that I miss the old spot, the new location is fine, but something about the old joint was more "loungey". Bring back the juke box and the booze and they'll be set! Anyway, it's a tradition when my parents visit to go to Scends to get their delicious chicken wings. We always think it's too much when they bring the big platter, and yet somehow, we polish it off! So, it was only fitting to have Scends cater my wedding. Dion was fantastic coordinating everything, he was always responsive and sweet. And although I have no idea what the girl did or did not do I know as a professional in my career that those conversations should be private. Furthermore, a gentleman working for the elder woman comes up and says the girl isn't needed, I was appalled. I would have never had that conversation aloud with anyone. This was important to me because people work better when they are treated with respect, after that it became very awkward. So I ordered the special 4 piece chicken wings that comes with beans and corn bread through the phone, 15 minutes later i arrived at Scend's and my food ready. The restaurant was serving soul food and that means they specialize in fried chicken. I was checking my food after I paid and the wings was larger than average and the bean portion was plenty. The chicken was crispy good, moist on the inside and not that greasy and was seasoned well, the beans and corn bread was also good. Scend's looks like a family owned business. I was in need of getting my fried fish fix. I found Scends on yelp. Upon arrival I was greeted by a very sweet young lady she took my order and said the wait would be about 15 minutes. I got my food pipping hot and couldn't resist the champagne pound cake on display. I got the red snapper and fries and it hit all the right spots! I really dig their customer service, our waitress was very sweet and kind. She made sure everything was on point for my friends and i. She saw that a knife was dirty, so she quickly replaced for me. She made sure our drinks were filled up everytime it was near empty, so kudos to that! However food was alright, not the best fry chicken i ever tried in my life. Definitely beats pop eyes and kfc by a long mile thats forsure! Meat itself was not dry, very tender and juicy. Only thing i wish was better is the skin, i wish it was more crunchy. It came with a piece of cornbread, though I'm not sure why the need for starch upon starch. It was drier and grainier than I like. Mac? Fine.
