Wellllll, to start Miss Josephine is the sweetest lady! She's open Sat & Sun only, check for hours. My visit only had a special of the day (fried chicken & sides) & no desserts available. I was excited to try the chicken because of a review I read. Unfortunately I was disappointed, the chicken tasted like it was frozen too long. The sweet potatoes were too mashed for my preference and overly sweetened. The greens were too salty. The blueberries in the cornbread were not a win for me either BUT I am sometimes a "food purist" and not open to traditional dishes being tinkered with so try it and make your own decisions. Ms Josephine is a hard worker business owner & loving mother. She was taking orders, cooking & serving! Admirable drive, I wish her well & success!

29.00 if you do the sides separate. 30 for the combo?

The food was good, not something that makes me feel like I need to return anytime soon. Fired chicken wings 2/5 good crunch nplo flavor Mac and Cheese 4/5 - Greasy Green Beans 4/5 - over salted. Corn bread 5/5 perfectly fluffy and buttery. Very nice and professional young lady working the counter. Food came out hot.if you total the sides on their own it comes out less expensive than the combo meal. Not sure what's that about. 30 bucks for the plate is a over priced in my opinion. Location is easy to find woth plenty of parking.

    Southern fried chicken, blueberry cornbread.Yummy

"I highly recommend Josephine Southern Cuisine to anyone looking for amazing Southern food. I drive all the way from Milpitas because the food is always delicious and made with care. I love the fried chicken, cornbread, collard greens, mac and cheese, and everything she serves. Every meal tastes homemade and full of flavor. On top of that, Josephine has such a kind and sweet soul, which makes the experience even more special. This is truly one of the best Southern cuisine restaurants in Northern California."

Fried chicken, mac n cheese, css as did yams and corn bread! I also had some greens which was cooked to perfection!

Absolutely phenomenal food! We tried the food about a week ago and wanted to try it and we loved it! So much so, today we grabbed some for my bday dinner! The chicken is seasoned perfectly and has that crunch you look for. The greens have that smokey goodness but not overpowering. The mac n cheese BOMB! Josephine is the absolute SWEETEST! Very kind and you can tell she puts love into her food. 10/10 we'll be returning customers for sure.

First time here! Service was great! She is so sweet! The food, OMG, amazing! So much flavor!

fried chicken combo with mac and cheese, yams, and cornbread

When i first walked in i wasn't sure what to expect, but the lady at the front made me feel so welcome and she was so sweet. The combo was so delicious! the fried chicken was super moist and flavorful, the mac and cheese had so much flavor, more white cheddar forward, but those yams are to die for! would come back just for the Yams!!

Sooo so good !!! We got the combo plate which had the Best fried chicken, Mac n cheese, mustard greens, and candied yams. With some amazing peach cobbler and sweet tea. Im not a sweet tea fan but my bf is, and let me tell you that tea changed my mind on sweet tea 1000%. There was so much food we had it for lunch and dinner. And even lunch the next day !! Highly highly reccomend! 5 stars across the board

Best soul food in the bay hands down...it's always fresh made to order. It's a hot commodity!!!! My family and I make a point to take a trip from Vallejo just to eat once a week I'm so glad the place is in a much bigger location! We love Josephine food and it's a staple in my household! My personal favorites are the greens and Mac and cheese you'll never go wrong!

I love the New Orleans food scene and therefore had a pretty high bar for Cajun food outside of Louisiana. I came in a little hesitant because I've been disappointed too many times by the options we have in the bay for Cajun food. But after I opened the box and took my first bite of that blackened shrimp Po Boy I could've sworn I thought I was sitting in the French Quarter again. The nice young lady that took my order recommended the blackened shrimp as an underrated choice on the po boys so I had to try it out. I came stuffed with a Red wine coleslaw, tomatoes, pickle slices and a drizzle of their special sauce (that I can only describe as spicy cajun mayo). 12/10 and I'm not exaggerating I also had a side (and when I say side take it with a grain of salt cause this feeds like 3 people for being a side) of the fresh Crab fries. Not overdone with the ingredients yet what a powerful hit of flavor, the Cajun seasoning usually comes out a bit salty on fries but these guys figured out how to balance it with the fresh shredded crab on top, garnished off with some green onion and more special sauce, this thing made me look around the room to see if anyone else was reacting like this over the food. (And they were! People were sitting there talking about "last time I tried ___ and ___ and it was fire") In the end I saw a guy that looked very proud to be there and was helping around the place while running back to his computer, that was Brett, the owner. I had to go and shake the man's hand and pick his mind a bit. He's a born and raised in New Orleans guy and you could tell by his kindness and southern hospitality. (Dude gave me a delicious carrot cake to go) Unfortunately in the end I had to walk back out into the reminder that I was in Castro valley and not New Orleans but for minute I was able to remember everything that had previously experienced from my trips there and that's what a great meal should do for you. His city should be proud of what he created here. I will absolutely be back to work my way through the full menu and add more pics to this review.

The batter and crunch from the fish and shrimp was delicious. I didn't finish my grist and had them the next day and just as good. Brussels sprouts could have been chopped in 1/4 to get more sauce on them or cooked a little more tender. The Jambalaya was seasoned perfectly for me. The beignets were very dense and not light on the inside, maybe skip those next time. The brown sugar lemonade was on point!! Would recommend for a brunch date on a the weekends. The staff were helpful and responsive. Food came out quickly and the music set the ambiance

The wait to order wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes? While you wait, you pass by a display of cookies and they even have samples out for everyone to try. The staff was very nice, even though they were super busy! We tried: - Free chips & salsa: These are a must everytime I visit denica's. They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Instead, I would get a regular pancake and a side of the ube coconut cream! 8/10 - The chorizo burrito: My bf said that this was also a pretty good option. He thought that it could have been a bit more flavorful, but was still satisfied with his meal! 7.5/10 - The side of hash browns: These were good, as to be expected! The portion was a bit small in comparison to other diners in the area. 7.5/10 Overall, I always enjoy my experiences at denica's! The vibes are always there, and they are such a convenient place to grab breakfast or brunch.

Superb Peruvian cuisine in downtown Pleasanton…read more Our daughter went to Peru this spring and wanted to share some of her culinary experiences with us, so we stopped by for a Sunday evening dinner. We were served ably by the courteous Carlos, who started us off with tasty ham and cheese empanadas (served with a superb spicy aioli), and refreshing guava and maracuya (passion fruit) mocktails. Unfortunately, they were out of chicha spritz, which our daughter was craving, and all other types empanadas - beef, chicken, veggie - were finished! Then we turned our attention to entrées, and ordered causa, pan con chicharrón, and aji de gallina. The causa was a visual treat, the crispy pork belly sandwich was my favorite item on the menu, and the shredded chicken and potatoes over rice was the most filling! Of course, we left room for dessert! They were again out of one of our daughter's favorites - the choco lucuma trifle - so we had to make do with alfajores and lucuma ice cream. These were delicious and were a wonderful way to end the meal. Total bill was about $150 before tip. We will definitely stop by again to try some of the menu items that were not available. Thank you, Bravazo, for making Pleasanton your home!

Coming in for dinner service, we started with the Pan con Chicharron, a sandwich with a filling of crispy deep-fried pork, picked onions, sweet potato, and aioli on a crusty baguette. The flavors of this sandwich were delicious, though the pork was a little too greasy and sinewy. Curious about their creative dishes, we next had the Bravazo Paella, an iron skillet of short-grain rice cooked with aji amarillo sofrito, fish broth, saffron, shrimp, mussels, chicken, beef, chorizo, green beans, carrots, and peas--a one pot meal that was great for sharing. But my favorite dish of all was the Fettuccine Bravazo, which came with fettuccine in a creamy yellow huancaina sauce (made of queso fresco and yellow pepper) topped with shaved Parmesan, served alongside Lomo Saltado, cubes of marinated top sirloin stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and peppers in a savory sauce. The huancaina pasta was creamy and delicious, and the beef in the Lomo Saltado was perfectly tender and juicy--what a creative way of combining two Peruvian classics into a single dish! Overall, the food and service here were both memorable, though the menu prices were undoubtedly high for what we got.
