I hired Schafer Electric to shorten an existing outside electric line. Their employee came over and realized he needed one fitting that he didn't have with him. He had the 1/2 inch and 1 inch fitting, but needed the 3/4 inch. He ran to the hardware store 15 minutes away, but was gone for an hour as he told me he restocked the truck. When he returned he finished the job in about 40 minutes. I was originally billed for 3 hours of work. I spoke to the owner about all of the the above, including the restocking of the truck, and he still told me that they would bill for 2 hours as they charge for the time the driver was getting parts. Invoice was for $405 for a job that took approx 1 hour of actual work. read more

We had an assortment of small problems at our house. We needed a new outlet, had 3 dead outlets, a kitchen appliance had stopped working (power related) and some exterior low voltage problems. Ian came out and took care of everything. He was friendly, explained everything and just did an excellent job. Electricians are expensive and so I was resigned to be big bill but Ian worked very quickly and efficiently so that he was done in just a couple of hours which helped minimize the cost to us. My Mama phoned the other day irate that her power wasn't on. Being I am the power god, she calls me first. Moms is getting a bit up there and she doesn't realize I don't control everything technical. I went into action and googled Sonoma electricians. Well, that's actually a lie, I tried Fitzpatrick first cuz I went to school with Bernie. Cool cat. Anyhow, no answer there and I tried another one and no answer and I am really glad. I called Schafer and told the lady what was up and she said she couldn't have anyone out tonight cuz they went home but the next day at 1. Cool enough, very nice lady. Not more than 2 mins later my phone rings and its them. I answer and she says that someone will be there at 11. Que? That was awfully nice of her to do. Turns out the park was having some issues with power but I wanted them to go out anyhow. Moms lives in an old mobile home and just having a professional, and I stress that word, professional, go out and peep it out. I get a call just before noon and its the owner. He tells me he is there and my Mom already had someone come out and all this but he offered to check it out anyway, telling me my Moms is a Sweetheart. Que? Glad she is nice to you. Guy tells me that the bottom breaker is bad and he has to get one but it wont be til tomorrow but he is only gonna charge us for 1 visit instead of two. Que? Who does that anymore. Who takes one for the elderly. I know who! Schafer. If i get them out there one more time for some reason, they might earn a spot on my Mount Rushmore. My tenant accidentally broke the electric power box completely off the side of the house he lives in, power gone, live/hot box... what should I do??? On the corner of the broken box was the sticker for Schafer Electric 707-545-3300, they installed the box +12 years ago for me. I only wish I could leave half a star ( as this place isn't even worthy of one star!) I called this company having seen one of their vans driving around. Called them to schedule a very simple electrical at my home in Santa Rosa, and yes it's roughly an hours distance from where they are located but still?! $600 and the guy was there under an hours time! I call that a rip off! Do yourself ( and your check book) a favor and skip these people who overbill very simple projects. I call that a Con game! Having read the previous reviews, both positive and negative, I feel compelled to offer our opinion. Like the most recent positive reviews, we have been working with Tim. When I call to request a service appointment, I specifically request Tim. He is always prompt, or early. Very personable, offers several efficient solutions , explaining cost factors, so we have options if we choose to pick a less costly solution to the project, or if we choose the a more sophisticated " big picture", and probably more expensive, alternative. The people who answer the phone have always been courteous and resourceful, getting back to us quickly to confirm when Tim will be able to get to our project. He does leave a bit of debris, but I would prefer to do the clean up rather than pay electrician's hourly rate for that. I highly recommend you consider Schafer Electric. read more

I live out of the city limits in Santa Rosa, so I have a well. On Saturday evening my water pump was not working so I looked up an electric company since the pump service advised me that it was an electrical problem...my water pumped had been replaced a month prior to this. These people are after your money. Nothing is disclosed upfront they just hand you a huge bill. Also they come into your house and tell you all these other things that you need done. They were supposed to call with an estimate after their first visit and never did. They just said the guy is on their way and told me what it would cost and that they already scheduled a bunch of other work, total bill $700! All I wanted was a light in my kitchen fixed! I am a caretaker for a 94 year old woman who suffers from dementia. I have been with her for nearly 35 years and in all those years i have made her many service appointments and dealt with many service techs. None have been as bad Schafer Electric. After the initial appointment i waited 2 weeks for someone to actually come and do the work, which never happened. After being put off for this long, i called and informed them i would be calling another tech and would no longer be needing them, which they seemed fine with over the phone. A few days later a bill for $356.00 arrived, stating it had been an 'emergency call' amongst other inaccurate details. As this elderly womans son is not fond of his mother being taken clear advantage of, he wrote the company a note and sent what he felt was 'fair' for the hour their technician spent doing nothing to help her. That was in Feb. and we have not heard one word from this company since. The check was long since cashed and there have been ZERO follow up invoices or calls. Now 6 months later they are calling me, her caretaker and threatening me with collections. They were aggressive and rude to me on the phone and refused to let me give them the proper numbers to the people actually responsible for her financial dealings, telling me "too bad, you made the appointment, it's under your name, we're going after YOU". I tried calling the office back and the gal who answered the phone hung up on me as soon as i told her what my call was regarding. The 94 year old gal is now scared she's, 'in trouble' and i......an employee.....is being threatened with collections. I'm honestly mind-boggled anyone would chose to handle a situation like this. To what point? Awful people who clearly don't care one iota about customer service. read more
