I was called and told by the receptionist that my kids were due for their checkup. I should have checked my calendar cause it didn't seem like it had been 6 months already, so I asked if it had, and she said yes, they were on the list. I asked her to see if there was availability for both of my kids at the same time. She gave me a date of 2 days later, first thing in the morning. We arrived with 4 other families, all there for the same time slot when there's only 2 doctors. I waited 20 minutes and noticed the 2 front office people looking at some information and going back and forth, then they called me up. I was told they made a mistake and it was too early for my kids' checkups. They weren't due for another month. We have to drive about 25 minutes to get to Kids World Pediatric Dentistry. It was a weekday morning; I'm missing meetings, my kids were missing testing, all to take a long drive and be told they weren't going to be seen because they didn't do their do diligence and check insurance information prior to appointments. She gave me a very ungenuine apology. Needless to say, I was very frustrated. I calmly but sternly let her know we wouldn't be retuning. Dr. Torres and the office manager should review their front of the office processes and training. Also, take into consideration other people's schedules. Maybe not set up 5 appointments all at the same time slot, just to keep 3 of those waiting unnecessarily.

Sat in waiting room for about 35 minutes. Needless to say we took first appointment so my kid can catch up to school. When they finally called us in first thing they did was polish my Kid's teeth, without cleaning it first or seen by the Doctor. After the Doc saw her she said no need for cleaning. That's a surprise because i know I saw some tartar build up. This is the first on all dental appointments that she ever had no need for cleaning, it's been 6 months. I asked her she said she doesn't have anything to clean. I know I'm not a Dentist but I'm a Mom and I know my kid's tooth brushing habits. I also didn't appreciate the Doc's demeanour when I expressed concerns of no teeth cleaning. Made appointments after the appointment to give them another chance, by the way this is our first appointment. Check this out! They asked for $100 deposit for the next appointment, before services were rendered. That sealed the coffin for me. This is the worst dental appointment for us. Cancelled appointments and ask for a refund. Oh by the way office manager called me about the refund . She didn't solicit why we cancelled appointment. More concern with the money than the services. I also emphasized to her that they better not charge my insurance cleaning fee. Polishing is not cleaning! It's really too bad because I was looking forward to doing business with this Dental office because their location is convenient for us. Business practices are bad. We won't be coming back and I don't recommend this Dental Office.

He said he was going to gas my son and put him under, because pulling the baby tooth would be too traumatic for my son. He said this in front of my very sensitive son and my wife. I am a middle school teacher, with training in childhood trauma and I have worked with CPS and as a trauma team liason and this doctor had the audacity to imply that my wife and myself were trying to traumatize our child, in front of our child. Worse, to try and guilt us as parents into allowing A TRAUMATIC AND UNNECESSARY PROCEDURE ON OUR INNOCENT CHILD, so they could justify billing us more. I wonder how many childhood psychology degrees are on the walls in this office? The LAST thing you do is tell a child that they are traumatized if you are unqualified to do so. Certainly though, the staff lacks manners and common decency. If you want to scar your children and have your basic parenting questioned so that these people can use your child like a walking dollar sign, please, take your child here. IF, however, you care about the healthy and wholesome development of your child NEVER take your child here. They clearly do not care about you OR your kids.

I strongly advise avoiding this dental office due to unprofessionalism and unethical billing practices. This was my second time bringing my girls here, and it WILL BE the last. I waited over 30 minutes after my appointment for Rafael to speak with me about the balance on my account. I work hard to provide for my family, and being blindsided with an outstanding balance six months after their initial treatment was unacceptable. The office never contacted me about the issue, and instead of taking responsibility for their failure to communicate, Rafael claimed it was my responsibility to track insurance claims and balance was no big deal. Rather than him addressing their clear lack of professionalism, he told me it was my responsibility and "find another dentist." Instead of resolving the issue, this dismissive and unprofessional response shows his priority to avoid accountability over ensuring his clients are treated with respect and fairness. Billing transparency and clear communication are basic expectations in any healthcare setting, and this office has failed miserably on both counts. If you value honesty, professionalism, and reliable dental care, I would highly recommend staying FAR AWAY from this place and find a more ethical and client-centered practice. This experience was frustrating, disappointing, and entirely avoidable, and I hope no one else endures such poor treatment.

After reading mixed reviews regarding The Dentist for Kids dental practice, I'm here to report that…read moreour experiences have been nothing short of amazing! The reviews that caused me hesitation were pertaining to concerns of recommendations for unecesarry work. In the year and a half that my daughter didn't see the dentist we had more cavities creep up than I thought was possible, so initially I was skeptical of the proposed treatment plan. I ended up getting two treatment plan opinions. Both very similar in their recommendations. I'm writing this after our 3rd visit. Dr. Gurr is phenomenal! Each and every time we've received the same wonderful level of service. The entire office is incredibly efficient. As a very busy mom and professional who thrives on top notch customer service and process efficiency, their practice met all my expectations. We've never waited longer than 10 minutes. I always get a sense that everyone in the office is communicating up and down stream. They're so hospitable too! Speaking of, everyone in the front office is always friendly and kind. They all seem very busy, but they've never failed to offer water or coffee. Small gestures that make the customer experience a little more special. Our patient experience from beginning to end has been a 10/10! If you're looking for a new pediatric dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Gurr and his staff.

A lot of times you'll hear the expression 'so and so was a life saver...' but not to get too…read moredramatic I think I can actually say this without much exaggeration for the Dr's and staff here. After months of desperately struggling to get our daughters weight up and dealing with her issues eating, it was suggested by her normal dentist that she may have whats called a 'tongue tie' and need a laser surgery to remove it. Our daughter is 13 months and I wasn't particularly pleased with the idea of her being sedated for any period of time, no matter how much we needed the surgery to get her eating up to a healthy point. Dr. Jensen and the DFK offices are one of the only places we found in San Antonio that can perform this surgery on a kid. After a brief consultation Dr. Jensen talked us through our options. He himself was very candid about what was entailed in doing surgery on such a young kid and offered us the option of perhaps coming back in a few months when anesthesia may be an option. The issue for us is that her eating was so bad pushing it off a few months was not an option. Dr Jensen and his team assured us that were confident in success of the operation and the entire process took less then a few minutes. Our daughter received light local anesthesia, was swaddled in a blanket and within a few minutes the nurse was out to tell us she was okay. A few tears were shed and we were on our way home, which is where work for us parents began. We had to do exercises on her tongue and gum for three weeks... which if ever met a 13 month old... she didn't love. But a month or so later I can report back we have a brand new kid. She not only eats, she eats with joy and gusto and has a full healthy appetite. I would say this to parents who are struggling with a child who wont eat to please visit a dentist and ask if your child may have this. THIS WAS MISSED BY NUMEROUS PEDIATRICIANS and if it had been diagnoses earlier we would have saved a lot of difficulty and heart ache trying to get her to a healthy weight.
