After about 25 years of being a customer. they screwed me. Took wife's car for check engine light. Brought in 8 times. They had car 34 days trying to fix check engine light. Never fixed, had to take to ford. Acorn managed to do $2939.48 in damage. Destroying fuel tank and fuel pump when they removed gas tank for unapproved and unwarranted work. After 4 discussions how they lowered gas tank with pallet jack and boards, they then denied they ever lowered gas tank. I was told 3 times car wasn't ready because tank was off car. They explained in detail to ford how they lowered it. Then they denied they ever lowered tank. They never returned my calls, never responded to better business bureau complaint. They kept guessing what was wrong. Deeply disturbing after many years supporting them. read more

Went in to have my battery checked. Always have good experiences here and this time I was a little let down. They did not bother to tell me my battery was bad just replaced it with a new one. No info given before replacing it with what seems like an expensive battery. I'm sure some labor was involved but usually there are some choices to be made in terms of cold crank amps, warrantee etc which changes the cost of the battery. read more

If you enjoy 300% markups for parts this is the place to go. The price from them. Strut assembly $370 for ONE! Internet price...... and not even the cheapest I found. $125. So.... $740. Or... $250. "Our prices reflect the quality work we do" So... if I bring in the parts at a 300% less price the quality of work you do sucks??? Your employees somehow get stupider if the price of a part is lower? Wow. I am from out of town. My check engine light came on. I called around and no one was able to help me. Drive by Acorn Goodyear. Not only did they fit me in. They diagnosed my problem and then fixed it. All on a Saturday afternoon with no appointment. Great service and explained my problem and what it would be to fix it. We came in to get our brakes done as they were making a grinding noise and really needed the done on a Saturday. My wife works during the week, and drives my kids so safety is really important. We also had to pick up our kids from school and needed to be out by a certain time. They finished our brakes much quicker. Overall it was a great experience. Brakes work great too. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. They have no set prices and use this as an opportunity to increase them randomly if they feel they can take advantage of you. Every time you check out at the front desk the staff considers what to charge you and what fees to add to the invoice based on what they feel like at that moment. A very unsure process. First price is always ridiculous and if you fall for it the next time you come it will have dramatically increased. Part of the oil change invoice today included a $10 shop parts fee, Andy stated this fee is because if they spill oil they will need to use a towel to wipe it up- also because they place a seat cover to keep your car clean. Wow! He said a way to get around this is to ask them not to use a seat cover and that they don't spill oil.... This is a slimy place. You literally charge a fee for things that you do while performing an oil change and items that YOU the shop own! I wonder if the mechanic takes a sip of water if they would add a mechanic thirst fee? Besides this $10 fee the actual price of the oil change increased, AND they tacked on a $17 labor fee. The customer service here is just as terrible. Andy rather argued over the price instead of trying to save a loyal customer. We will never return to this scam and will be sure to share our experiences with everyone in the Schaumburg/Hoffman community. read more

Good, Fast, and Cheap. Never thought I'd say those three things together, but this is my second time at Acorn Tire in Hoffman Estates, and that is what I experienced both times. I was there last year for a new pair of front tires. Today I was there because of a slow leak. They took care of it quickly, plus they replaced a sensor. I'd known the sensor was off for awhile, but another shop had quoted me 3 times the price that Acorn charged so I hadn't had it replaced yet. I have been impressed in all my dealings with the professionals at Acorn Tire. Back in 2005 I had a VW Golf. The car was a lemon. I brought it in to Acorn because the check engine light was on and they informed me that I should take it to the dealer because it was still under warranty. They saved me hundreds of dollars by being honest when they could have withheld that information and charged me to fix it. I vowed in that moment to return to Acorn whenever I had a problem. Since then I have gone there twice for brakes. The first time I went in they checked out my car and informed me that I could go another year before replacing my brakes. Honesty! I love it. When I did finally get my brakes replaced they did it fast and cheap. UPDATE I feel I have to take away a 2 stars because I recently had my shocks and struts replaced here and I have to say I felt like something was fishy. The price was jumping all over the place for the work and I never did get a straight quote. When I went to get my car he had charged me for lifetime car alignments, but I didn't feel like i ever agreed to that. So, i guess its back to the drawing board in trying to find an honest mechanic. read more

Do. Not. Bring. Your. Car. Here. I came in to have my car inspected for work, and was told that in order to pass the inspection, I would have to purchase 4 new tires since my tires were worn. I was also told that they would have passed my brakes... but they were starting to get worn and may be worth replacing. Something about this inspection didn't sit right with me; so I decided to go to another mechanic for a second opinion and passed with no issues, and drastically different tire and brake ratings. There's more... I also had an oil change done. I was told that my 2012 Chrysler 300 S only accepted synthetic oil. I didn't really question this until I had my car reinspected. I did some searching on the internet and found that my car does accept regular motor oil. In fact - the invoice from Acorn Tire from my LAST VISIT used regular oil, not synthetic. I would like to see the documentation from Acorn that stated my car needed this more expensive oil this time around. I would like to be contacted in regards to this matter. I have been coming to Acorn for years because I believed I had found a mechanic shop that was reputable and honest. Taking advantage of a situation that someone needs to pass an inspection because their work depends on it and then denies that inspection to upsell tires is unacceptable under any circumstance. Not only that - but then also trying to make me purchase a more expensive oil that I didn't need. It feels very dishonest. 12/7/15 - edit in response to business owner response. I have uploaded the two inspection letters to the weblink below showing the discrepancies between the two inspections. You will see a clear difference between the brakes and tire ratings. The difference is that the other mechanic (Jiffy Lube) doesn't sell tires - so they really wouldn't have a reason to mark it down. Went here for years when we lived in Hoffman and always got the best service around. Finding a reliable, honest mechanic is hard, there's a reason why this shop has been in business for so long! Always provide great professional service and prices are in line with everywhere else. Plus they don't force anything on you. They give you a heads up about things as well. So instead of waiting till there is a problem, they give you pointers and advice to keep an eye out so that you know what to expect coming up. Recently went in for an oil change being in the area and still the level of service was a notch above the rest and they did it very timely. I took my car in again and was as happy as ever with the service. When I say I "took my car in" I use that term loosely because it was actually towed in because it was barely running. I was worried that this was going to be a very expensive day and was expecting the worst. It turns out all of the problems were because it had been to long since I've gotten any oil change. I am so happy that they were honest enough to tell me that there was nothing major wrong with my car. So happy! Doug always does the work on my car, when he works at this location at least and he does an amazing job with imports. I just recently moved from Southern California to the Chicagoland area, and when the first snow of the season hit, Acorn Tires came to my rescue. After being so consumed with all the moving details I completely overlooked replacing my old tires with all seasons and driving soon became a nightmare. I drive a VW Touareg; there's no excuse for this thing to be slipping and sliding! I finally bit the bullet and decided to invest in proper tires. However, I had no clue how difficult it would be to find semi-affordable, in stock, 19" all season tires! I must have called around to at least a hundred different places, and Acorn were not only the nicest of the bunch, but they had the best price, and the best service. I called on a Friday afternoon and they got my tires special ordered and installed by Monday (which meant only having to go through the inconvenience of finding a ride to work for one day, thank god). Driving in the snow for the first time with my new tires felt wonderful. I regained my confidence and above all, my safety. I am so happy that I found Acorn and will definitely recommend their service to all of my friends and family. Icing on the cake: They gave me a free regular oil change! Too bad my car only takes synthetic, but my dad's Chevy will be happy! read more

Excellent, professional, courteous service. I always have confidence when leaving my car here. I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance Tires, in 2010, and while driving my 2008 Infiniti G35xS on a long highway trip this past Spring (2012) noted a loud thumping noise. Acorn diagnosed that the tires were "cupped", and replaced them with Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Tires, as the original tires were still under warranty. Bottom line - if you're the type of person who has been looking for the unicorn that is an honest shop, this is the place for you. I can't speak for Acorn as a whole, as this is the only location I frequent. I've read through all of the reviews, and frankly - I think you can ignore the less than 4 star reviews. If you ask a lot of questions, you'll get thoughtful answers to them from a knowledgeable staff. I've owned more cars than I can count, gone to my parent's mechanics, friends, dealers - you name it. I am 100% sold on the service and professionalism at Acorn. The owner Frank is either smart - or maybe just lucky to have Chris the Store Manager (for 20 years), Alex, and the rest of the crew always pushing to hit the mark and deliver great service. I've had two cars with a full set of tires. Chris got me the maximum on rebates for both, which allowed me to get the Protection Package with Lifetime Alignment basically for free in the way of visa gift cards. Sure enough, I punctured one of the tires on some metal shrapnel at the industrial park where I work. They got a tow truck to me in under an hour and had it fixed in the next hour. I bring my cars in faithfully for rotation and alignment twice a year. It's best to call ahead if you don't want to wait too long. This is not a 10 minute oil change place - so don't have an unreasonable expectation on waiting. For a service shop, it runs well on times. I recently brought my wife's car to the dealer...MISTAKE! I don't know what I was thinking - but the service manager there basically laughed at me and said (paraphrasing) - why fix all this stuff, you need to go see the salesman right now and get into a newer vehicle. These repairs will cost you more than this car is worth if we do all of these repairs. He then handed me a bill for looking at it ($140/hr). I then took the car in to Acorn, where Chris had the crew take a look at it. Some of the repairs were much simpler than the dealer service manager made them out to be. The quoted repair price was much lower as well in both labor and parts. I left it over a weekend and Chris gave me a loaner. I simply jotted down my DL number signed and off I went. On Monday, we got the car back. Every detail of what was performed was explained. I asked more questions and got answers that made sense in layman's terms. The next morning the car seemed to be making a familiar noise again (Power Steering that was repaired). I brought the car back in. They re-bled the line. Later that day, Chris said he was not happy with the pump they replaced for me and that the part was warrantied - he asked if he could replace it for me and give me a loaner again for the day. By that evening, the repairs were completed - at no cost to me. The car has been running great ever since. Look forward to seeing Chris and the crew again in the fall. Thanks Guys! read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars. I'm conflicted. I came here because my breaks (which were brand new and replaced at another shop) were squeaking. I brought them here (because it was under warranty and they were a Gooodyear provider). They cleaned and adjusted them, but they still squeaked. Then I told them they needed to be replaced. They had my car for a whole day and waited until 4:30 to tell me they had played with it all day and the pads needed replaced (no duh) and they needed paperwork to call into the warranty place (I asked if they needed paperwork beforehand and they said no). Since they waited too late I had to wait another few days to get them replaced. Also, they didn't contact me to let me know they had the ok to replace them. I had to contact them. They were always nice on the phone, but seemed very focused on other things (like the food truck that came by?) versus my car. Long story short they got replaced, and they work great now. And they were fixed in under an hour. They have a nice facility with couches, a tv, free wireless, coffee, and a place for kids to play. Not to shabby. I just wasn't overly impressed with the customer service. read more

They went out of their way to make sure I was in the loop throughout the whole process. I spoke to them multiple times and you could definitely tell they work well in the team environment. I came in to get new tires and wheels put on and have them check out why my car was so loud. Well it took them about 3.5 hours to put on my rims. That seems a bit long for what I thought was a simple task. Then in the end they told me they didnt have time to see why my car was making the loud grinding noise and to bring it back. I decided not to bring it back. Took my car to the dealership and the hub bearing was in terrible shape and i needed new brakes. You would think when replacing rims and tires they would have noticed those major issues. Instead they let me drive off with an unsafe car! Never again! read more

Went in for an oil change during lunch hour. Place wasn't busy and it was just one other car in the garage at the time of the work. It took them 1.5 hours to change my oil. whaaaaa......That's very sad to say. When I saw my car in the parking lot, I went to the front desk and stood in front of the desk waiting for the gentlemen, Fidel, to acknowledge me. About 30 mins later, he finally provided me service. What a shame. For almost an hour, the gentleman at the front desk spoke to a man who looked like he was from cooperate doing a check up on the place. The funny thing is they weren't talking about business or work, rather it was about what kind of new tires each of them just purchased for their family members. Just shooting the hay. I don't mind if you're having a talk about random stuff, just don't make a customer wait until you're done talking. I've taken my car in to get oil done change before twice in the pass. This will be the last and tell all of my friends, family, facebook, twitter, google+, and the whole world about this. Of all the things they did wrong, this is the worst. They took/stole/pillage a coupon from my front passenger car. How did I know? I had ordered tires online. I received a call around 10:15 saying they were wrong size. I asked to put old tires on. I came to store around 3:15 expecting to pick up car. Had 2 oil changes recently with them. They were prompt and didn't take frustratingly long like some of the other places. They recommended a few specific services and replacement but didn't push too hard and gave a time frame in which I should get it done. Their prices are a little bit premium compare to some of the others but may be OK, given the prompt service, not much wait time. I like the cleanliness of the place as well. These guys are the best near or far from the northwest suburbs. If I could do 10 stars I would. They helped me out tremendously with a stripped lug on my truck and the other five that were seized on the studs. They had to work for over an hour to get the stripped lug off heating it with a torch and hammering a socket on two sizes too small to get it off. They didn't charge me a single dime for it. I've started going to Acorn tire for all my car issues, whether it's a tire, an oil change, or a new battery. They're friendly and accommodating, and always try and give you options so you get the best price for what you need. They also make you aware of any other issues, but never try to pressure you into extra expenses. Plus, it's one of the few tire shops that's open after 5 or 6 so it works with most peoples work schedules. Great place for car service. read more

Absolutely the best. They have never disappointed. I took my 2016 Ford Edge in because it had a crazy bad rattle under the driver's side. I had earlier taken it Bob Rohrman Ford and they told me there was a "loose under-panel" and that they could "try" to fix it but they didn't have the "genuine parts" in stock and etc. and etc. So, I said thanks and went to Acorn Tire. They looked at it and 45 mins later I was out the door with problem permanently fixed! They used parts worth like $5 out of a tool box and a very reasonable charge for their time. read more
