Busy little bagel shop in the heart of historic St. Augustine. They offer a variety of bagels, bagel breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and sandwiches. They are only allowing two people inside at a time and offee outdoor seating. My friends ordered breakfast sandwiches on bagels. Being from south Florida they are picky bagel eaters, but thoroughly enjoyed their food. I ordered a breakfast wrap. The wrap was delicious and filling. They also put a jalapeño cream cheese inside the wrap for a nice added kick. I also ordered the apple juice and you can tell it was freshly made. This is a little gem. Great homemade bagels with a "chew" like New York bagels. You can really taste the garlic on the everything bagels. We both got the lox and next time I would choose the salt bagel for it. They were so filling, we skipped lunch that day! read more

Got here a little later in the morning and a lot of the bagels were gone but we still were able to get a very good bagel sandwich made. We had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a cheddar jack bagel and it was soo good. The bagel was soft and warm, the bacon wasn't over cooked or under cooked which you find sometimes. Nice little patio area seating since they aren't offering indoor seating because of COVID. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It started off with less than friendly customer service. The prices are exorbitant too. The bagels were disappointing, like eating day old mediocre ones. Just moved to the area and was yelping around for the best breakfast bagel sandwich. This place hits a home run with the Breafast Bagel sandwich. Friendly counter service and it came out quickly (it does take time to cook a fresh egg sandwich). Great value for sure. Coffee was also really good. Anyway, great little bagel spot with a cute outdoor seating area (perfect for social distancing!). Yum ... The bagels were quite delicious! Schmagel makes Nice Bagels, but Don't Count on it Being Open This unassuming little bagel shop seems to be quite popular. They advertise that they're open until 1pm or when they run out of bagels, whichever is first. It was a Monday, so I didn't expect it to be especially busy. We got there at 11:20am and there were only about a half dozen bagels left on the shelf. The party after us cleaned out what we didn't get. Why not make more bagels, Schmagel? But honestly-the bagels are not only small-but they are no longer as good as they used to be. They are basic. Very bland bread tasting (and that's the everything bagel!!) and almost dry. I was alone and I walked in today to get 6 bagels (the limit is 6 per party) the lady behind the counter accused me of being with this random party in front of me and had the worst attitude when I was just trying to get bagels to feed my family... the staff is obviously terrified of management but the bagels are good just the management is terrible, borderline abusive... so to conclude if you need to feed a family of 8 this is not the place for you as you are only allowed 6 bagels enter at your own risk and be prepared to get yelled at... Response to owners feedback: (She's edited her comment to me 3 times) Catherine M., I'm not your enemy. I was honestly just really frustrated with the way we got treated when we came in. Literally all we wanted to do was buy your product. You know that most of the stuff you posted in your comment isn't true. There were no signs then, there was no "foot stamping scene," there was no one in line, etc. I'm not going to keep editing my post every time you post an updated retort. Take the feedback for what its worth or don't. I own and operate several small businesses and i do know the issues and struggles that come with running a small restaurant. I'm shocked and saddened and really embarrased at your responses to me and to others who have said the same thing in reviews. Even the positive reviews say the same thing, you don't make enough bagels for the demand you have. It seems like you have a lot more problems than those stemming from COVID. My main point here is that if you have been running a bagel shop for 30 years and you can't keep inventory past 10:30 am you need to look into different business processes. If you can't make enough inventory to sell someone a dozen bagels you have a business process problem. If your solution to upset customers and negative reviews is to bicker with them online and try to use past negative reviews to explain away their concerns, you probably need someone else to manage this process for you. Maybe ask yourself if there has ever been any feedback that you don't explain away. Initially I was shocked that you would go and find my ONLY OTHER 1 star review about an old racist restaurant owner who kicked out a group of 25 black people in the middle of the week and say you were "much like them." But I looked at your other responses to feedback and saw that you do that to all of the negative reviews so you can demonize the person rather than work on the acutal issue. Rather than prove how right you are and berate your customers with how wrong they are, maybe listen to the feedback and get better. My family (12 ppl) met up at a beach house for the week and my sister and I drove (25 min) here on July 4th in the rain to get bagels for the family. It's in old town at Augustine in a small quaint shack and the bagels looked great. There was no one in line behind us and maybe 2 ppl in line ahead of us. We get to the counter and ordered a dozen bagels (for the 12 ppl at the beach house). The woman taking the order says to one of the line cooks (maybe the owners??), "these guys want to get a dozen bagels" (like were some sort of out of line assholes for wanting that many) the guy says, "no we can't do that, not on a holiday weekend." So I'm like, ok how many can we buy? He says, idk, maximum 6. So I'm like ok I'll buy 6, and my sister will buy 6. The woman: no we don't do that here. It's not fair to the rest of the people who will come in today. (No one else in line behind us). So I say, look I got 12 ppl back at the house I'm getting bagels for, buying 6 isn't going to do anything for me. I'm going to have to go somewhere else to get the rest of the food for them. She says, sorry it's not fair to the rest of the customers, it's just not something we do here. We need to be able to serve our customers. When we run out we run out. We're not a big shop. We can't disappoint our customers like that. Keep in mind there is no signage in the restaurant or online about bagel purchase limitations. So, flabbergasted, I say, so you are fine disappointing us though? who is already here, and stood in the rain to get these bagels and you won't serve us? Her: yea unfortunately. Do you want the 6 bagels? Me: fuck no I don't, If I have to go back out in the rain to buy more bagels I'll get them from someone who can fulfill my order. And we left. I asked the next bagel shop if they could sell us a dozen bagels and she looked at me like I was crazy and said yes of course. And they actually had a line of ppl. #1 a dozen bagels isn't a large order #2 if u know u sell out on holiday weekends, prepare and make extra. #3 the lunacy of not taking a 12 bagel order and only being charged 1 cc transaction fee and only having one bag, and doing it in 5 min vs running 6-12 credit cards, and the bags and the time in taking all the extra orders (if you get them all) just blows my mind. #4 if u have arbitrary or steadfast purchase limitations post them online or at your store so ppl don't waste their time. I guess you could say, we'll they could make more from more ppl if they all buy drinks etc. I guess... it's Just poor business decisions and a disappointing customer experience IMO read more

Best bagels in Florida hands down!! Every time we visit St. Augustine, we have to stop by Schmagel's! Get there early because they sell out. We try a different combination each time but my favorite breakfast bagel sandwich is the lox and cream cheese. It's a hefty serving of lox with cream cheese and capers. I love it with the cheddar jack or onion bagel. The classic bacon, egg and cheese is also super tasty here on a cheddar jack, cheddar jalapeño or everything bagel. If you want to switch things up, the pork roll with egg and cheddar garlic cream cheese is also yummy! The service is always super friendly and the food is fantastic. Don't miss out! read more

Most amazing bagels especially since I used the owner's husband's NEW deluxe "hot" honey. I don't mean heated but the spicy kind. Paired with a toasted blueberry bagel and plain smear just heaven. Even arriving at 10ish the line wasn't too bad and easily got a table. The flow of waiting, ordering, and drinking Java while your toasty bagel is being prepped allowed for tables to be open to nosh on your purchase and then be on your way. If you were raised on bagels as I was, you know finding a good Jewish deli is an extremely happy celebration. Being a west coast guy born in Santa Monica which used to be the epicenter of good delis on that side of the country, I am a recent convert to the east coast addition of capers and tomatoes to go with the onions. I must say Schmagel's hit it out of the park. I not only ate a whole everything bagel with lox, cream cheese and the works - but followed it up with another half. I would have eaten another whole one, but that would have required taking food out of the wife's mouth. Even though I considered it for a moment, I dearly love my wife more than bagels with lox. I just hope I don't have to wait another decade or two to find something as good that this bagel combo. It will be my standard breakfast for every day we spend in St Augustine in the future and we plan to hopefully return again and again to both St. Augustine and Schmagel's. New favorite bagel place in St. Augustine, they have awesome bagel options as well as breakfast sandwiches. We had Salt bagels with the cheddar-garlic on one and veggie cream cheese on the other. So good, we can't wait to go back and try some of their other options. No inside dining yet and limited capacity to order but they have a lovely outdoor seating area right out front that is partially roofed and shaded by mature trees. I love coming here for breakfast whenever I'm in Saint Augustine. This place is great! Fresh bagels everyday until they sell out (which could be very early). Right now there is no indoor seating, you just step inside to order and they bring it out. I usually get the breakfast sandwich. Their cream cheeses are all delicious!
