Cheba hut was unique! We weren't sure what we were walking into at first because of the names of the sandwiches, thinking they might be dusted with a little sticky icky! Everything on the menu was unique and tasty. Best meal of the trip. I enjoyed the club and the cheesy bread and especially the availability of Kool-Aid flavors. Kudos to the staff for keeping up with how busy it was and checking on our party and making sure we had what we needed ! This business is never open at dinner time. Their hours are posted as being open until 8pm but they turn off online ordering (for delivery or pick-up) and they stop answering their phone after 7pm. The sandwiches are delicious but they don't want your business. read more

This is a go-to spot for a toasted sandwich in St Augustine. Great service, fresh ingredients and they get you out the door fast. I took some friends and family there the other day and everybody was impressed. Everybody knows my rules for sandwich shops. Subway is it two. Publix subs are a three. Finally made it in for a toasted sub, I must say it was great I ordered a nub veggie sub w/out mushrooms. Veggies tasted fresh, bread was perfectly toasted and all was good. You walk up to the front order and for dining in you are given a number and you sit down. They bring the food to you. Service was quick our two sandwiches were done in less than five min. The gal that rang me up was sweet, and thorough. My only thing was I didn't expect it to be so 420 friendly. Not my thing to be honest when coming in with my kids. So on that alone, I may just order delivery via doordash or pick it up as a to-go order. read more

Foods always good, it's the service that sucks. I've ordered salads and my wife orders the sandwiches. Last 2 times, they completely forgot my salad. I've actually had to go up and ask for it after my wife was done eating. You would think delivering the food for only 1 person you might go back and check the ticket. The response I get is, oh, we'll get right on it. No apology, just drops it off and leaves. read more

My first time here and I'm obsessed. Chill place and super friendly workers. Fast service. I was surprised how good the sandwiches were for a chain. I got the Kali Mist with chicken - chicken club sandwich. So good! My husband got the Ak-47 and he loved his. We also got the white widow for our kids. Everything was perfect. Chicken perfectly cooked. Their pickles were so good and a perfect addition to the sandwiches. One of the workers recommended me to try the Florida exclusive sandwiches next time and I definitely will because it sounded interesting. The sandwich is super filling so we also had leftovers which was a win. :) read more

We were in town for the GooGoo Dolls last night and across the street from these guys at the Holiday Inn. OH MY GOODNESS First, the staff was friendly, helpful, and patient! So many choices we needed a minute and the girl at the counter didn't rush us. We both ordered mediums, mine on white and my daughter's on garlic. We could have just had the bread with butter and been happy, it's that good. Crispy and flaky on the outside and soft and chewy inside. The house sauce and avocado took what could be a basic BLT over the top with just a little kick to the sandwich Shel's Apollo 13 is described as a Greek Salad on a bun and the description fits it perfectly. The right amount of Feta cheese, dressing, and kalamata olives made for a great combo. We will be back next time we're in St. Augustine. read more

The subs are in three sizes I think from around $5 to $12 each. Every sub we've had has been pretty good, and the chicken salad sub and tuna salad Subs are also very good. Did take out from here, and this place is fantastic. I would say it's probably some of the best toasted subs we have had. We ordered the Thai stick, G13, and Mid West best. We loved the options and the great flavors. The weed humor is comical. Only complaint, if you order to go and your sub has sauce/dressing, the bread maybe be soggy by the time you eat. Never going to Subways again. For the same price, these subs are way better! They were able to customize the Plant Powered sub so it was vegan friendly. God was it good! Their toasted bread is *chef's kiss*. And they offered regular hummus and jalapeño hummus. That jalapeño hummus is fire! My boyfriend is not vegan and got an equally delicious sub. Some roast beef sandwich with a dipping sauce. He too has sworn off all other subs! The service was great. The restaurant was clean and inviting. We're definitely going to be regulars! read more

The Yucca Croquettes were good but 5 of them were $10 which is not worth it. The sides offered are tater tot's served with peri peri sauce and French fries. I asked if I could get the peri peri sauce with the fries they said yes but did not mention it was cost over a dollar. Unfortunately, this visit was nothing like the one we remembered. The food wasn't bad, but it lacked everything that made Surfside special. The beautiful presentation was gone, the berry compote and strawberry butter had disappeared, the potatoes were plain, and the meal just felt... ordinary. We enjoy trying a variety of their exotic and inventive drinks, and they never disappoint. The flavors are bold, creative, and unlike anything you'll find at a typical restaurant bar. The Yellow Submarine cocktail is quite possibly the best drink I have ever consumed. Made with curry-infused Bermuda black rum, lime, ginger, and Asian five-spice brown sugar syrup, it sounded unusual on paper but came together beautifully. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered four of them that evening, something I rarely do. That was three years ago, and despite returning several times since then, I have never seen it on the menu again. The food is equally impressive. Two years ago, I ordered the Skillet Roasted New York Strip served with Yukon Gold potato-anna, roasted asparagus and spring onions, watercress, and black truffle hollandaise. To this day, it remains one of the top five restaurant meals I have ever eaten. Every component on the plate was exceptional. The steak was perfectly prepared, the crispy potato galette was irresistible, and the black truffle hollandaise elevated the entire dish to another level. It was the kind of meal that stays with you long after the plate is cleared. I would gladly drive 300 miles just to eat it again. Most recently, I had the wild mushroom bisque, and it was the best soup I have ever consumed. Rich, creamy, buttery, intensely mushroomy, and perfectly balanced, it was everything a mushroom soup should be. The addition of crispy pickled onions and crème fraîche added texture and contrast that made an already outstanding soup even better. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we returned the very next day hoping to order it again, only to discover it had already rotated off the menu. My only complaint about The Ice Plant is that some of their greatest creations seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive. While I appreciate the constantly evolving menu and understand that seasonal changes are part of what makes the restaurant special, there are certain items that deserve a permanent home. The Yellow Submarine cocktail, the wild mushroom bisque, and the Skillet Roasted New York Strip with black truffle hollandaise are three of the finest things I have experienced there. The fact that I can vividly remember one of these items from three years ago and another from two years ago says everything. Great restaurants serve good food. Truly special restaurants create dishes and drinks that stay with you for years. The Ice Plant has done that for me more than once, and that is why we continue to return whenever we visit St. Augustine.

There is a large parking lot shared by other strip mall businesses; however, there is more than ample parking. It is easy to find and to get in and out of. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We had a couple of huge Sangrias then started with the Queso Fundido. There was a TON of chorizo in it as you can see from the photo! After that I had the Birria Burrito, which was also enormous. I liked it a lot but didn't even come close to finishing it on account of the huge-ness. Lauren had the Chicken Chimichanga with shredded chicken. She liked it a lot and also had a hard time getting through just over half of it due to there being just so much of it. She always said it was more kid friendly than the Mandarin location. So we went. I have never been so disappointed & disrespected by the level of service than at this location. We have never been so we were unaware that this location was similar to the downtown Jacksonville location. 1) We came in and we were not greeted. 2) No one explained to us that we would need to go to the left side of the establishment for full service/full bar. We ordered our food and were given a number just like the downtown Jacksonville location. We sat outside so we can watch our little one play, but apparently we chose the wrong side of the outdoor eating area. (No barrier to distinguish between the 2 sides) We were told we could NOT eat there. The server explained that this is for full service only. I wanted to order more as we were hungry. I thought, perfect. I can order an appetizer, a cocktail, and get my son some gelato while we waited. Again, we were told we can't eat here OR order food OR sit here. Mind you, out of all the 15 tables (both sides) only 2 were occupied. We were told, "You can't sit there either. (NO SIGNAGE TO DISTINGUISH THE 2 SIDES!) AND NO YOU CANNOT ORDER FOOD. You have to sit over there." Then the server asked, "Is that ok? (With an attitude). I informed the server, "NO. IT'S NOT OK." She didn't say anymore as we moved several tables over to the "designated area". This was our first time at this location & it will be our last! There was no apology or explanation that we need to go back inside to the front of the restaurant. None. We had no idea we entered the quick order side (there's tables on both sides.) I went inside & asked to speak to a manager. He explained that there's a hostess on the other side of the restaurant, (apparently there's more than one entrance). He said that someone should have explained it to us & said he would speak to the server. That was it. Nothing else. He tried to seat us in the full service but it was too late. I was so mad at driving 30 minutes after work, (I was still in my scrubs) to get treated that way that. I packed up my family of 3 & left. I am still so angry at the level of service I received. It was a huge disappointment. I hope that the Durbin Park location (once built) will have the level of service we are accustomed to receiving.

Unfortunately, this visit was nothing like the one we remembered. The food wasn't bad, but it lacked everything that made Surfside special. The beautiful presentation was gone, the berry compote and strawberry butter had disappeared, the potatoes were plain, and the meal just felt... ordinary. The attention to detail and flavor that made this place stand out simply wasn't there. The highlight of our visit was our waitress Tiana, who was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. She was kind, attentive, and when we asked what had changed, she explained that the restaurant is under new ownership. That made everything make sense. This isn't written out of anger; it's disappointment. We came back because we remembered how special this place was, and we wanted to experience that again. Sadly, it feels like the Surfside Kitchen we fell in love with no longer exists.
