I am very impressed with this location. My mom and I were headed in here to do some quick grocery shopping and were amazed to see how big and spacious and clean the store was. Upon walking in the smells of food and cooked aromas pinched my nostrils . Instant hunger to our stomachs. This location offers food restaurant style with a diner . Chef is cooking foods fresh to order. Full menus. One area is designed as a cafe, one as a beverage and burger joint. Salad and bar foods, sushi counter, and packaged foods ready to heat and eat as well. Staff eager to assist . The beverage and burger area also has wines and beers to purchase by the oz . Dine in tables and second level has a whole eatery section to dine, and this is also where cooking classes are taking place. I ordered crab cakes and shrimp penne pasta , my mom ordered shrimp skewers on a bed of rice and vegetables. Prices were reasonable and food were presented on real glass plates. Live entertainment was there for your musical ears to enjoy. Wines is available for purchase as well to sit and eat and glasses are available to drink from. Kudos to this location . I have been wanting to try the live music and cafe for years. Finally made the 40-minute drive. I was not disappointed! Note: Outside food and drinks are not allowed. Obvi. I mean it's a grocery store. We purchased our wine and beer from the liquor aisle once we placed our orders at the cafe. Nice selection of items on the menu AND you can also opt to have meat or fish prepared to order from the meat or seafood counter. Meal prices around $15. Each week there's a different musical act. This is actually a review of schnucks very nice restaurant inside the Des Peres location. "Fresco" is an Italian themed restaurant. Before shutting down for covid-19 I believe the menu was larger. This is not a fast food place although service is prompt. Every time I've eaten there in person years ago as well as the first time since the reopening, which was yesterday, I have been served with metal utensils and served on an actual square "china" plate Food has always been prepared to high standards, more common at high end full service restaurants. Although the restaurant is "full serve", tips arenot expected and there is no way leave a tip on a credit or debit card. Tips are accepted in cash. There is a small menu of outstanding food. I can't find it online and I wish I had photographed it. Fresco also has daily specials and serves beer. A unique feature of fresco is that a customer can go to the meet or seafood department and pick items not on the menu to bring back to the restaurant, which charges a $5.00 "preparation fee" plus a few extra dollars for sides. Other drinks besides beer are available at the kaldi coffee section or at the bistro or one can drink them in the store and use them with the meal. I had a pasta dish recommended by Chef Michael and watched him prepare the meal from scratch. Several years ago before covid-19, I also had tried their pizza and other items on their menu and they were outstanding. With my particular meal this time I had a Shocktip on tap Schnucks also serves wine and the shopping carts have holders for wine or beer. Schnucks also features a bistro and while I went there several years ago it is not featured in this review. Schnucks also features live music on Friday nights. Now that this place is open again, I strongly suggest trying it. It is the quality of a nice "sit down$ restaurant. . There is also an upstairs cheating area with big screen TV and an elevator. Temp monitor in front of the stack of boxes that were wedged behind the thermoNo way to get a box out without breaking the temp monitor. Grrr. BUT it turned out ok because, AGAIN, the 40% off coupon and app didn't work correctly. No coupons were applied to my order. I had only clipped a couple because TheyNeverWorkRight. I am going to ask a stupid question. Why can't all grocery stores be like this one? This grocery store is amazing, it totally blew me away. I'd been to the new Dierberg's down the road and fell in love with it a couple months ago and now I fell like I already am cheating on it. You know you are talking upscale grocer when wine and beer each have their own walk-in coolers, with two entrances each. The wine cooler is shared with cheese, but the beer cooler is all BEER. You have local breweries, craft beer and imported beers to choose from and they're all ice cold. Schnucks is also supporting local vendors which is obvious by, Sallume Beddou having their very own case. Fortunately for me, I live within walking distance of Sallume Beddou in the city, but I was glad to see their product readily available for the suburbanites. The prepared foods, deli, sushi bar and Seafood and Shrimp Bar all had my mouth watering and I had just finished breakfast at First Watch. As, their competition down the street, they have an amazing Gluten Free Department. The Kosher selection was even more extensive then I have seen in other stores. I'll be honest, normally I do not like produce from Schnucks, but here they have taken fresh vegetables and fruits to a new level. To the level, where I was doubting my loyalty to meat. What is happening to me? This new year new me, has me developing a new love for vegetables. The associates here are a throw back to the days when Schnucks promoted themselves as, "the friendliest stores in town". Every associate we had contact with was extremely friendly and helpful. One lady in particular was a major stand out. Every time I turned around, she was there. I kept going back and forth down the center horizontal aisle taking in all the vertical aisles. She kept asking me if I needed help finding something and I told her no that I was just taking it all in. At that point I realized she was staying in the center aisle so I asked her, "Are you here in the center aisle to give directions?" To my surprise, she said yes. She was there to make sure customers found what they needed and wanted. Now that is top notch customer service. I wish my Schnucks was just like this one, because going back to it now will be such a disappointment. The SO laughed when I said, this will be my new regular store. He knows me to well, I do not shop ahead - I shop for the meal. If I lived near by, I'd be here daily. read more

For years, I was a loyal Schnucks customer. Then along came Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme to save the day. Last night, I stopped by Schnucks 10 minutes before closing to pick up 2 items. I found the one item and then asked for help to find the other one, I was told the store is closing and I had to leave. Can you believe that? Is that good customer service. I insisted the clerk help me find the item and checked out. Before checking out, three employees gave me the evil eye for holding them up for two minutes. The cashier was expressly belligerent. This is our "home Schnucks" as it's both closest to our house and my favorite Schnucks in the entire area. The produce selection is the best in town, I think, as is the selection of most grocery items. The people I encounter, mostly late at night, always are pleasant and helpful. I especially appreciate their good work now during the virus outbreak,as they keep the store linking tip-top. I buy almost none of the ever-increasing selection of private label product. I would spend more here if there were more organic options overall, although produce is good; grass fed, grass-finished beef; pastures and nitrate-free pork; and more non-dairy non-soy options in yoghurt and ice cream. BONUS #1: The live music is a special and unexpected treat, and the talent tends to be quite good, and not just for a grocery store. BONUS #2: For a few years now we've enjoyed an occasional date night at the grill, enjoying the fried chicken and green beans and baked sweet potato. They'll also grill a steak that you choose from the meat department. I'll never forget the night the guy next to us was so excited to tell us that he loves that they'll fix a box of Rice-A-Roni with his fresh grilled salmon and asparagus! read more

Let's talk about meat! The full service butcher counter is my favorite spot in this whole big, wonderful store. They have their own dry aging system where you can get some really terrific steaks. Beautiful, pre-cut regular and Angus steaks and chops and ground meats galore, or have them cut it at the thickness you like. Want a brisket (or whatever) ground, they do that. And they'll sharpen your knives for free. Last week I told them I wanted something different and exciting and they suggested the Spoon Steak. I'd seen it there for a long time but, frankly, it looks like a cow's tongue. Turns out, it's the not-so-tender tip of the Sirloin, which they have marinated in Burgundy wine with peppercorns in a cryo-vac bag. Cook it like any other steak and it turns into the most tender and delicious cut of beef around! I actually prefer it over some of the standard cuts, and it's cheaper too. The deli counter offers a full range of Boars Head meats and cheeses, as well as Schnucks' own brand and a couple of local favorites, sliced when you order. If you want, you can step to the side and have them make you a sandwich. If you'd like your cheese shredded, get a chunk from them and walk across to the cheese counter and they'll do it for you. There is also a great selection of seafood and a sushi stand. Ah yes, and a chocolatier too! The bakery has some delicious artisan breads and individually portioned deserts, in addition to what you'd normally expect to find. The wine selection is second to none and they have certified wine gurus to help you find what you need. The beer cave is cold, which is great, but I wish they had more room temp beer, as sometimes the home fridge space is at a premium. The produce department is like a farmers market. In addition to all the regular fruits and veg, they offer 200 or so organic selections and lots of herbs. Last time I counted there were more than a dozen different apple varieties to choose from. (Quick Tip: add 1/4 cup water to chopped apples, simmer for an hour or so in a saucepan and you get applesauce!) If gluten-free is what you need, they have a great selection of everything you need, plus a cold case full of MREs, sides, breads, and more. The prices are much better than places like Whole Foods. There are 2 restaurants in the store that put up some really good food. The Bistro does breakfast and lunch. The other does pastas, pizzas, and the like, all freshly prepared by cooks who are not allowed to accept tips. You can get beer by the bottle or drink a bottle of wine with your meal if you like. And let's not forget the Kaldi's Coffee stand. (Be sure to get a loyalty card and every 10th is free) Upstairs is the cooking school and an area with tables and chairs for demos, book signings, Super Bowl parties, and more. A couple got married there a while back after meeting in the store. This store is about a half hour from home, and even though I have a small Schnucks nearby, I rely on this location to give me the best that the chain has to offer. read more

Um, I've never thought of a grocery store as a restaurant destination...until now. It's a holiday today so all the usual choices were closed, and I'd been curious about trying the 'restaurant' at Schnuck's since my friend had told me about. It honestly sounded too good to be true. Well, it's not! We went for breakfast, and found a decent menu with pancakes, scrambles, skillets, and egg/meat/hash browns/toast. EVERYTHING was delicious! From the decaf Kaldi's coffee, to the pancakes, to the skillet breakfast scramble, to the regular fried eggs (cooked perfectly), perfectly crisp bacon, hash browns crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, AND REAL maple syrup. We will totally come back to try their dinner menu and options for selecting our own meat from meat counter and have them cook and serve it. I will totally drive the 15 min past loads of restaurants and other groceries to try this place again. High five to my friend for telling me about this hidden gem. read more

My blue collar self getting free high-end cheese samples is fun. (Made from the milk of cows eating off the first growth of spring in Europe). Getting sushi at a reasonable price is great. Having a balcony to eat on with free Wi-Fi is actually nice. Reasonably priced, but not bargain food (7 dollar ok pork steak with 2 good sides) was what my friend had. The cafe and ready made food part was a nice surprise. First few times I went I was in amazed, but now I usually walk past the cafe get my free cheese sample and it is a shiny grocery store with more specialty stuff I choose not to buy. They have a walk in wine and cheese cooler! There is a cooking class area on the balcony. I have gotten a free sample from them too ;). Schnucks does have Prego with meatballs. For valentines my girlfriend and I took a cooking class here. The classes are held upstairs in a very modern classroom kitchen. There are rows of tables for traditional learning, but most of the time is spent up and around one of the three islands. The class starts out with an introduction on what you are making, and then the students are broken out into 3 teams to go tackle the chores of putting the dish together. Little stations are organized around the island so each team member can work on a piece of the dish by themselves. There was some thought put into separating out the work... and at times it seemed a bit chaotic, but all in all it was fun. My directions were hard to understand since they modified the recipe to a half order. In fact, I made a mistake and the instructor fixed it for me...thanks Holly. There is an instructor at each table. These instructors take time to show you tips on chopping, garlic peeling and all sorts of other useful kitchen skills. During the whole time, you are invited to drink provided wine. There were a bunch of guys in my class which made it less intimidating... although I think some of the students were regulars as they already knew the swing of things. At the end of the class you get to sit back down and eat what you made. We made a crawfish etouffee. Damn was it good. And the begniets that I worked on for dessert turned out just fine too. My class was $45 and lasted for 3 hours. A bit pricey... but if you factor in that you are learning and that you are getting dinner it's not that bad. It's a fun experience... it would be great as a double date, or as an UYE, or as a teaming event for a group. I will probably take another class soon. read more

They have music nightly in the restaurant and it gets occasionally wild depending on who is playing. Great wine and Matt is exceptionally knowledgeable about wine and alcohol in general. The only thing...the weekends are crazy during the day. They need traffic signals as no one looks where they are going and some people in the store who shop there are crabby. So, just ignore them and enjoy the ambiance of the store. read more

My favorite location.i make it a point to drive here for groceries. It's always so clean, well stocked, the best produce around outside of the farmers markets. You can get it all. Full stocked deli, seriously though I love the produce section. The guys who work here will help you with anything related to the produce. I've never eaten at the food counter but it's always packed. Great alcohol section, again they are well versed on their wines and great recommendations. The meat dept guys are as well always so friendly and helpful. Did I mention the health food section? Check it out. The dietician has guided us for my daughter on many occasions Again, I make it a point to get to this location for the family fm grocery needs. read more

Grocery shopping wise this place is amazing. Large, well lit, great selection. But I also study here, upstairs in the mezzanine. It's got tables, couches and a fire place. They used to let you study up there 24 hours, but it's closed at 12 now because homeless people used to sleep there over night. I'm ok with the new rule. The one downside is the ridiculously slow Internet. I understand that I won't get super fast Internet, but when it takes 5 min to load a single text based Web page, you have a problem. At this point I think they provide WiFi just so they can claim it on their list of amenities. Dierbergs down the street is so much nicer. read more

My favorite Schnucks location by far. This place has it going on, from the amazing variety and setup, to the live music and dine in. The staff are friendly and courteous. The alcohol selection rocks!!! The produce is amazing. We come here all the time just to purchase their pizza sauce for our homemade pizzas. The cheese counter and selection is on point and I love their variety of refrigerated salad dressings. I was introduced to Pear Tree salad dressing and croutons here.
