Summary: Great quality sausages at reasonable prices Finally made it here from East Mesa armed with the almost extinct paper currency. It's a clean if somewhat sterile, bland shop. Sterile is good when you deal with perishable products but they could spice up the interior a bit. Went on a Saturday. Plenty of parking in the empty parking lot. Based on earlier reviews, bought the Portuguese Linguisa: fresh and smoked; the andouille, fresh sweet Italian sausage and some smoked ham. In the last week, have eaten everything except the Italian. Myself and my 3 other family members all agreed everything was great and definitely above the average grocery store offerings. Grilled the linguisa. It had a great, mild taste and the casing cooked up to a beautiful, crisp delight. Put the smoked linguisa in a sort of Spanish stew of tomatoes with lots of paprika, garlic and onions and chicken and it was great. For me, the andouille was a standout. It's a bit spicy, which I like, with a perfect meld of flavors. I crisped it up in a pan and served at breakfast with eggs and caramelized onions. Really great. I usually grill or crisp up more than I need and find they disappear out of the fridge. read more

I had to leave before I bought one of everything in the store. The two girls that were working in the shop were very helpful and also contributed to a positive experience. The Italian sausage is very, very good. It's not inexpensive by any measure, but nothing I guess says they have to be. Their Sicilian variety is $6.50 a lb. I've never paid that much for Italian sausage before, nor seen it that high. That said, IT MAY BE THE BEST ITALIAN I'VE EVER HAD, and I've had great Italian sausage from all over Chicago where the Italian communities are extremely devoted about the culinary arts and the results are legendary. Most of my Chicago neighbors are Italian, they make fresh sausage in the garage. It's outstanding, but Schreiner's is right up there. The sweet and hot variety Italian is $6 so a hair less. My mom is from Germany, and I can remember coming to this place back when the counter staff would speak German with my mom. The had the best liver wurst. It was firm, but not dry, and full of flavor. Finally, it was time to try Schreiner's sausage which we had heard so much about. First of all we were surprised to find two young people behind the counter when we walked in. Luckily, we were waited on by the young man who wore a glove to handle our meat. While we were there, however, the young lady played with her hair, then helped another customer using her BARE hand to get the bratwurst he wanted, handled his money and was then ready to help the next customer. We were grossed out!! The meat was really good - we tried three different link sausages, ground pork sausage, and bacon. We would go back if in the area.
