Great ingredients, great burger. The burger was juicy, bun fluffy, lettuce crisp and the tomato sliced perfect. The quality was comparable to the Grayson Burger in Berkeley. Like any establishment that offers high quality fixings, you simply get what you pay for. Some may balk at an $8 burger but I would gladly pay the fee for the helping I was served. Once in a while you have to treat yourself to the best offerings available. One piece of criticism goes towards the garlic fries. Either the oil was not changed recently or it was left in the fryer too long. They were a tad over cooked but I liked the hint of lime in the garlic flavoring. Don't go in here trying to count calories, you simply must take the loss. read more

Scolari's definitely lives up to the hype. Best burgers in Alameda by far and the buffalo fries are amazing. I usually order from the specials list and haven't been disappointed yet. The staff is really friendly and the burgers are always cooked to perfection. The place is ridiculously small, so it's not a place to bring the kids for dinner. I love this place! I originally checked it out for the burger, which I had heard was really good, and it was. While I was eating it, my friend and I were watching someone piling a bunch of Italian meats onto some dough and wondering what that could be. He saw us and gave us a free sample of the classic stromboli that he had made. Needless to say, after one bite I was hooked! Even though the menu isn't very big, I haven't gotten through it because I usually get a stromboli. I have tried a couple of the sandwiches and they were good....freshly made with high quality ingredients. I'm a french fry junkie, so I appreciate their fresh cut fries. The hush puppies are good too, but I have my fill of them after 2 or 3. The thing that really puts Scolari's over the top for me is that they're open until 2:30am on weekends. It's great to get some really good food late at night. Anybody pulling into the Jack in the Box drive thru across the street at 2am should really consider Scolari's instead. read more

This place is a little slice of heaven. Service was amazing. The food was delicious. I got the blueberry blue cheese burger and even now I'm craving more. Their Mac and cheese is made to order with homemade cheese sauce which is awesome. The wife got fried chicken which was crispy and juicy. The biscuit was also great. The only downside is there isn't a lot of seating so you have to hope it's not busy. Otherwise you have to eat at the bar next door, use one of the two sidewalk tables or a barstool inside. read more

Have been searching the bay area for a good cannoli, this was probably the best I've ever had! The chef was super helpful and very friendly. Excellent burgers and very good prices for what you get. Fries are super good also. Nothing like a good burger to feed the craving. Im so glad that my friend and I gave it a try... the place is very small, and a bit pricey (i ordered the 3 meat combo) $21 but yummy to my tummy...the potato salad, and lima beans (they were gigantic lol) and the pulled pork and chicken were amazing.... Highly addicting... I won't have much to add to other reviews, so just suggest trying everything. I'm not alone in thinking they now have the best burgers in A-Town, and if you are lucky you will find fried chicken on the specials board (and not sold out). The stromboli is also a winner. I thought I posted a review here long ago, till I realized I did write one... to nominate Scolari's for "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." Here's what I sent to ol' Guy Fieri after just one taste of the buffalo french fries: We heard about Scolari's before they opened through my wife's chiropractor, whose brother Mike is the exec chef. I just had to write after having their Buffalo French Fries, nothing else! Super crispy, house cut fries tossed in hot wing sauce and topped with bleu cheese and julienned celery and carrot. The flavor was insanely good, and I don't know what they do to keep the fries crispy even after sitting in the sauce for a while. You have gotta check them out (and I haven't even had a chance to try their hand-tossed pizzas yet)! So there you have it. Scolari's makes a great burger, one of my favorites in the Bay Area. As others have said, this place is super-tiny with a few tables on the sidewalk outside. They seem to have an arrangement with the Lucky 13 bar next door; next time I'll have a drink at the bar and wait for Scolari's to deliver my burger next door. So I bookmarked this place, and went there on a datenight. Ugh its a small small place, no chairs or table. So we ordered and sat next door at the bar to eat. Stuffed strawberry with goat cheese and serrano pepper. Ugh its toooooo cheesy for me. The salad it came with was ok. Somewhat balanced it out but still its too heavy. Blackberry burger with bacon. Omg it got Mr sick. Like I had a heartburn. It's was toooooooo rich. I mean I appreciate a good burger. But the blue cheese just got me feeling ... Ugh... The burrito was ok. The buffalo fries was greesy and again I'm not a blue cheese fan so it was not what I imagined it to be. The scrampi fries need mote garlic. I mean if you gonna make a good garlic fries. As I've frequented Lucky 13 more this year, I've had the chance to try out the food here at Scolari's and bring it next door to wash it down with a beer. I've tried the burger and the falafel burger and both were solid with the regular burger being the best. The fries are pretty good too and they give you a large portion. They bring the food over in a timely fashion and the workers are pretty cool. read more

5 Star Food, 4 star space... Everything is really good quality and great flavors come out of this space. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that loves trying different foods and combos. The scampi fries are amazing and the crispy dog is no joke! YUMMO! They have a daily aioli flavor or two that pairs with the specials, such as; malt vinegar aioli, chipotle aioli, jalepeno aioli or roasted red pepper aioli. Super yummy place, however; I had one experience where the hamburger tasted extremely gamey, and I'm not sure if they accidently gave me buffalo or lamb (which is sometimes on the menu) instead of ground beef but it was baaad... so that is also one reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Just be aware of what you are ordering. The space is very small so unless its a very nice evening outside to sit at the few tables, you gotta take it to go or eat next door at the bar. read more

I visited Scolaris after seeing it on an episode of Diners, Drive ins and Dives. The Good ole Boy chicken sandwich sounded like a must have. I ordered it with the Tenn. hot sauce which came to about 13 bucks. The service was okay but after the third bite, I realized the sandwich was waaaaay too salty. It had a nice crunch to it, so I set about trying to weed out the saltiness. I pulled the sandwich apart bit by bit. By the time I reached the crust, I couldn't take it and wound up tossing half the sandwich and feeling like I should have ordered the the bacon and blueberry burger ( which is normally amazing). If I based whether or not I'd go there again based on the good old boy chicken sandwich the answer is no. However, I've been a couple of time in the past for the bacon blueberry burger and would go back for it instead. read more

This is probably my favorite burger place. I love their French Onion burger which has the perfect taste and crunch. On other amazing dish is the garlic fries! They have just enough onion and are wonderfuly spicy. The staff is super nice and the food comes relatively quickly. Great place for lunch! read more

I had the cheese burger and it was ok...I wouldn't say it was the best burger I ever had. To me it was a little on the salty side and kinda burnt. For the price of $9.40, I would pick In N Out over it any day. There's not a lot of seating in the place either so it's not very convenient and definitely not a good place for groups unless you all order take out or sit in the bar next door. Why does fresh food always have to come at such a high cost? Scolari's is no such exception. Each item costs a pretty penny. It's fast food fare at restaurant prices. I had the "whitey," bleu cheese burger, and the infamous buffalo fries. Overall, good food, but not worth the price. One order of the whitey (spinach, goat cheese, olives, red chili flakes) is enough to feed 2-3 people. The crust is delicious, but the inside was just a little too greasy for my taste. The bleu cheese burger was mediocre. I honestly feel like I could have made it myself. The patty was small, but the bun was definitely it's only saving grace. It was fluffy and well toasted. The buffalo fries were my favorite. The tangy buffalo sauce was evenly distributed on each fry. Scolari's was a little stingy on the crumbled bleu cheese, but when you snagged a bite that had cheese and fry, the result was heavenly. Not bad, but not great. read more

So my friends and I were fighting over where to go eat in Alameda and they wanted to go to Applebees to eat booo nooo for American food I was like let's go to Scolaris they have all kinds of food from pizza, fries salads to burgers how much more American can you get than that! We took like 30 minutes to order because we are sooo picky and we asked our server TALEEN so many questions and she was so nice and so patient with us explaining everything to us! Seriously, Good. Food. I didn't eat meat for 15 years (red meat for 20). Then one day I started craving a burger. Ever since that day I have been on the search for amazing burgers. My first burger that made me cry with joy was a burger I had at Rosie's Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors, Florida. (Ft. Lauderdale). Since this first burger, I have been just craving an amazing burger. I found it! When I moved to SF (6 months ago) I went to Alameda to check out the scene and look for an apartment. I stumbled upon Scolaris when I decided to have a beer at Lucky 13 (also a great establishment). I was craving a burger and decided to order one at Scolaris. What is better than a burger and your favorite beer (mine is Blue Moon)? Nothing. So a burger and Blue Moon it was. I ordered a burger with bacon, some kind of onion jam(?), and cheese.... I can see it in my head but can't remember what kind it was... a fancy kind with a cool name. ANYWAY..... This. Burger. Was. Delictious! It is now the standard to which every other burger has to measure up to and fails. Miserably. So, do yourselves a favor. Go to Lucky 13. Order a beer. Go next door to Scolari's and order some food. Then, just enjoy what life has offered you in that moment because we never know what's next and savoring something delicious is something we don't do enough of in this world. read more

This is my favorite spot on the island! Sure, they lack table space, but that's why this place is perfect for takeout or for delivery next door to the bar, Lucky 13. The specials are always amazing and constantly changing. I've had anything from a chicken marsala sandwich to a bacon-blueberry au-poivre hamburger to the creamy mint cannellonis. The staple menu items are also a hit. The strombolis, particularly the one with pepperoni and salami with a marinara dipping sauce is just delicious and perfect for sharing! The burgers are always a hit, as are their marinated chicken lettuce wraps (if you're going for something on the healthier side). I don't order burgers every time out, as what would the missus make of my ever-inflating spare tire? But happily I made it to the gym last week for a good 42 minutes, so felt a splurge was well-earned. I heard much about Scolari's special cheeseburger and it still blew me away. The patty was juicy and packed with flavor, the veg was crisp and fresh and the challah bun was golden and perfectly toasted. Only downside was after the first bite, the juice from the patty turned the bottom half of the bun into a soggy mess, so i had to invert the bad boy halfway through to keep the rest in one pawful. I cant speak to how good the food is because I was grossed out before I got a chance to order. Witnessed one of the workers take a bite from a carrot before putting it in the juicer. He was behind glass windows in plain view took a bite as he turned away then turned back around an placed it in the juicer. Wow. Please note that I only came here once and I'm already giving it five stars! I don't like reviewing places after I've only go once but this place blew my mind, it was just amazing. Talk about a hole in the wall. I had the bacon bleu cheese burger and it was bomb dot com. The burger was topped with spinach and was cooked just right. They added my favorite ingredient, peppercorn. I waited a while for the burger so I was able to see the dishes that they were coming out with and was just amazed at the time each took and how perfect each one looked. There is only a limited amount of seats inside but you can go next door and get a beer while you wait. Never been to Alameda before but this place seemed easy to get to. There was plenty of parking nearby and the place looked relatively clean. They're menu was ridiculous. They have so many dishes that I couldn't believe they made them all. The staff was friendly but I did wait a while for my food to come out. Fine by me however because it was worth it. I will definitely be coming back here in the near future. read more

This is a favorite spot of my boyfriend's!! We've come here multiple times, and I always like everything. It's a given that we always have to order the buffalo fries. I've had the falafel burger before, which is good but messy. The last couple of times they've had a ham, egg, and cheese on challah bread which is really really tasty. The menu changes up quite a bit, and we are always trying different items. Be sure to try something off of the specials menu. I was bummed that they had run out of a special mac and cheese already that night. There's not a lot of room to sit in the actual restaurant, but you can go to the bar next door, and they'll deliver your food to you there. Be sure to have cash too, as they don't take cards. Don't judge a book by its cover, as it's not the most impressive establishment. The food more than makes up for the decor! read more

I absolutely LOVE Scolari's! Having moved here recently, I have been looking for a place to get some delicious grub in Alameda. Scolari's has that and so much more. Every day on Facebook, they post their daily specials. Some items seem to appear consistently (Italian sandwich, Taylor Egg and Cheese, etc.) but some are rare finds - and when they do pop up, I'd nab them quick. Generally, items lower on the specials seem to rotate in and out faster. There is also a smaller fixed menu that has a few staples, such as your hamburgers, salads and fries. It's one of the few places outside of New Jersey that I've actually been able to find Taylor Ham. It's greasy, it's crisp, it'll probably kill me at 50, and it's the damn best piece of meat ever. With some egg, cheese, ketchup, salt and pepper - you've got yourself a Jersey Breakfast, and you just can't go wrong (For anyone who is interested, they'll sell it to you in the 3lb chunk it comes in. Be warned, it's near $30! Worth it though since you'd have to have it shipped here anyways). Anyways, the food itself - it is to DIE FOR!!! My girlfriend and I have made this one of our regular spots and always recommend it to friends who are visiting. You just cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Be careful if you want some menu item tweaked, since there are no substitutions. Pizza by the slice most evenings as well and it is thin, crisp, and tasty. Head chef is from the east coast and he definitely knows what's up. Lots of classics from the Tri-State area, and a bit of a gourmet twist on them as well. Bring cash - no credit cards, and the ATM inside will charge you $2. Interior is pretty kitchy, fun and playful. If you are out for drinks, they will deliver to the bar next door (Lucky 13) as well. Okay so I LOVE the food - always serving something fun and delicious. Great burger, great salads, fun ingredients. On top of that, the service is always friendly and welcoming - which I so love and appreciate. HOWEVER, I have knock them down at least two stars for the fact that they seem to consider themselves above health codes - specifically regarding covering facial hair when cooking/doing prep and wearing gloves when touching cooked food. While I do realize hairnets are not cool and beard/mustache nets even less cool BUT a mustache or beard hair in my food is downright gross! Hello mr hipster working the line, either get a shave or cover that facial hair - it's the law! While waiting for my food, I repeatedly watch the French Fry guy scoop fries into brown bags and either add or take away - but consistently touch the top of every bag with his bare hand - the same hand that twice touched his neck and once his apron and once his blue kitchen towel - yuck! Sorry guys, the downside of the open kitchen is that customers are watching / and they don't always like what they see. read more

This will definitely be the place I go to when I am craving a good burger without having to face traffic to get somewhere further. ~ INSIDE/OUTSIDE ~ Don't plan on eating here unless you'll be eating by yourself or with 1-2 other friends. Can't bring my baby here for sure. (Although I hear you can order your food and sit at the bar next door, but not really my thing). There's only 2-3 tables outside to eat, nowhere inside to eat. So we took ours to-go and ate at home. ~ FOOD/DRINKS ~ Classic cheeseburger: So yummy. Good meaty patty, fresh toppings, cheese, etc. Buffalo fries: Surprisingly delicious even with the blue cheese, since I'm not a fan of blue cheese or buffalo sauce! But it was sooo good. Scampi fries: Pretty much their version of garlic fries, and it's definitely one of the best I've had! Some of the fries were wonderfully crispy, with lots of garlic bits all over, so flavorful. I would come just for both of these fries. I saw a seasonal Parmesan fries on the chalkboard behind the counter, I would love to try that sometime. ~ SERVICE ~ Kinda slow. The manager of Scolari's was kind enough to reach out after reading my Yelp review and mailed a $25 gift certificate so I could try their food again. I went back and got a regular burger this time, buffalo fries, and regular fries with housemade aioli. I bumped them up a star just because I thought it was nice of him to take the time to mail a gift certificate but the regular burger didn't really blow me away. The meat wasn't too flavorful and juicy. The buffalo fries were surprisingly good for the weird combination. Housemade fries with the aioli were good as well but I wouldn't go back to a place just for fries. read more

Absolutely delicious fried chicken sandwiches. I've been here and to thier food truck and both have such good sandwiches. Fries vary on crispiness depending on the day but always good. The aoili with fries is great. Got the Asian slaw fried chicken sandwich and could not put it down. Amazing! read more

SHORT: Eat here! Food is incredible and great bar next door (Lucky 13) to take your food and have a beer (same owners so they welcome it). LONG: I can't believe it: best burger I have ever tasted! No exaggeration- juicy, great cheese and bacon, wonderful meat. And the Buffalo Fries were super tasty. Worth driving some distance for great food and an excellent beer next door at the Lucky 13 (same owners). I also tasted the ham & cheese Stromboli and the veggie Stromboli, great cut up as an appetizer, or as a whole meal. Even the cheese pizza was great, with a dry, flaky crust, tasty cheese combo, and without being greasy. Frankly, I am really surprised that such an unassuming and inexpensive place could have food this good. This review is only for the burgers. I have had very yummy things there, like the Stromboli. I am still on the search for a good burger in the Oakland/Alameda area. This was a very pricey burger, and I don't mind paying a lot but honestly we wished we would have gone to In and Out, I felt this burger was a total waste of my calories for the day. The burgers were ultra rare. I guess I should have requested how I like them cooked but they didn't even asked so I assumed medium would be protocol. My fault there. The meat had basically no flavor. No seasoning of any sort. The bottom bun was soaked wet through. I didn't enjoy really one bite of it :-( Luckily the fries were pretty tasty. The only part of the meal we really enjoyed. The food is really really good. I had been meaning to try it and ended up going there with a few friends. We tried the special burger, meat Stromboli, fresh corn hush puppies (which I don't think are in season anymore) and the buffalo fries. Nowadays, I always call ahead and see what the special burger is. I get it every time. Except that one time they were sold out :( If it doesn't come with bacon, I normally add it for $1.50. The garlic scampi fries are really good. Be careful with the buffalo ones though, if you're gonna get them, I would share or you might pay for it later. Be warned: It is a little pricey, but everything I've ever ordered has been delicious. There's only one table inside and two outside. You can also eat inside Lucky 13 next door. I can write this review like I was writing a love letter to girlfriend. That's how much I like Scolari's...This place is perfect fundamentals...It's next to Lucky 13...so you can get a pint...then grab a burger. First off the food...my eyes were rolling in the back of my head so much...i was going to be remake of jaws...It's awesome. The Burger is superb...but my favorites are they strambolis...they are fantastic. Then the specials...which are unique and always good. Try to Zepoles...Fried pizza dough that is rolled in cinnamon and sugar...yeah you'll never want to touch a donut again. Second the ambiance...It has a rockabilly...I'm back in 50's feel with some of the signs...but that shouldn't stop you. I have a great time...pulling a stool and grabbing dinner...or taking out. Late nite dinner: falafel burger, stuffed pizza/calzone aka "Whitey" (Sauteed spinach, olive, basil, chili flakes & goat cheese) served with a marinara dipping sauce, and fries scampi (garlic, olive oil and lemon). Oh my! What a feast! The fries alone were perfect (others who suggest you can't go wrong with fries must be spoiled with access to divine goodies like these). The falafel was yummy but a little dry; needed more aioli or something to lube it down. The Whitey was quite tasty and stuffed to the gills with vegs; healthier than I would have expected. Perfect for late night dinner (before Midnite) when we find ourselves in Alameda. Cash only (with ATM in corner). Small spot - barely enough room to wait inside. Very friendly order-taker and cooks. I eat at Scolari's a couple times a month. They have a regular menu of pub grub (burgers, fries, etc) with a nod to fresh/local/sustainable foods. You won't go wrong eating anything from their regular menu. My favorites include the burger (probably the best in Alameda), Cindy's Salad, Stromboli, and the chicken lettuce cups. Even though these options are good, regulars to this place know that you'll always do well to try their specials. My faves are the seasonally-available hush puppies, which are crispy balls of corn meal and kernels served with a sweet honey butter--man, those are good. Recently, they had a bavette steak salad, which was OK, and an amazing porchetta sandwich which was a wonderful treat that makes me wish it was on the menu all the time (or maybe not, because I'd be eating there too often). If you're under 21 or have kids in tow, don't come here if you expect a sit down meal--there are only a couple tables available on the sidewalk if you want to eat there. However, they deliver to the Lucky 13 next door, so the place is one of my go-to places if I want to sit outside and enjoy a beer with my dinner. The Lucky 13 has a really nice outdoor patio area that's perfect in warm weather. I wish Yelp had 1/2 star increments, because I really think this is more of a 4.5 star place. My only complaint that makes me ding them one star is that the french fries are too greasy and usually almost soggy with grease. It's the only thing on the menu that I haven't loved, or at least really, really enjoyed.
