For dracut it's the best Italian you can find. Staff is always friendly and I've never had a bad meal in the 5 years I've lived in Dracut. Restaurant is quiet and a good size for a nice dinner date. Way better than mamas!!! I eat in the north end a lot and compared to the north end I'd give it a 4 stars for food. But for dracut it is a 5 star rating. If you're local and trying to pick between mamas and scolas, choose scolas. read more

Just had lunch at Scola's. Decided on the fried haddock sandwich. The menu price was different from what I paid. So when I inquired why the sandwich was $21.99 and the upgraded salad was $3.99, i was told .. 'yes. It's so expensive!' I'm feeling a bit ripped off . There was no more fish on that sandwich than I would get at Wendy's . Was told the salad upgrade was at $2.00; not $3.99. I got a copy of the to go menu and the haddock sandwich is listed at $15.99. There was only one other couple so the place was not busy as I would take that into consideration when a restaurant is busy and they might be short staffed but there was 2 people working. My table had to get up multiple times to find our waiter and each time he was playing on his phone and talking to the other waitress who was also on their phone. We used to go to Scolas years ago and loved it. Then it got sold to new ownership and every time we went we were told we had to sit on the bar side which was very noisy, so we left. We thought we would try again. When we drove it, we thought it was wierd people were sitting at tables along the windows with no covering, so when you pulled in, your headlights were blinding them. We walked in, we noticed it was completely remodeled. Very cheery and inviting. We were told to take any seat we liked. Sat down and waiter came over for drinks. The waiter also brought their famous Scala bread and oil for dipping. My husband wanted the baked haddock as he loved it years ago. He asked for baked or mashed potato but they didn't have either. I got Chicken Piccata. Dinners came and mine was Ok but reminded me of a jarred sauce. My husbands fish was nothing like it used to be. Piece of very small and dry lonely haddock and a small dish of pasta $22.99. As we were waiting, I googled it and found that a new owner had recently purchased the restaurant. We met my daughter and her boyfriend for dinner to celebrate her birthday. We arrived at 5:15 and the restaurant only had a few patrons. We sat next to the window and ordered an appetizer. That came out after 10 minutes and the bruschetta was very good. We placed our order and it was exactly 45 minutes before our main order came.. Only one other couple were in the dining room finishing their meal. I can't fig for the life of me , why would they put a family with a small child who was so loud we could hardly hear each other's conversation next to us. . Maybe you should tell your host to have some common sense and not place children next to people trying to enjoy their meal. Arrived at restaurant with friends for an early evening dinner over w/e. We were promptly seated and told waitress with be with us shortly. It took a while for her to get to us but that gave us time to check out the menu. The pricing on the menu was confusing so when the waitress finally arrived we asked for clarification. Whoever designed menu could have done a better job. We all asked for water and waitress said she would be back shortly. When she returned we again asked her to clarify menu pricing, We asked for bread and again she said she would be back shortly. It took a while but when she returned we placed our orders. We also told her we would like separate checks. Also interesting to note, there was only one slice of bread for person. It took a while for food to arrive. We asked for water refills at this time and more bread. Waitress refilled water. Food arrived shortly after along with more bread. Food looked good. Upon tasting we found that the food was not hot, just warm. We were hungry so we didn't say anything. Food was okay, nothing exceptional. When we were done we patiently waited for the waitress to appear again. We could have used more water and wanted take out containers for our leftovers. We continued to wait and finally I asked another young lady for take out containers and bills. She brought containers and said waitress would be with us shortly. Waited again and no waitress. I got up and asked someone at counter for our bills because we still hadn't seen waitress. Was told she was right in back and would be with us soon. Waited again and still no waitress. Went to counter again complaining. Finally waitress shows up with bills. After checking bills two of us questioned $1.99 charge for parmesan cheese. We were told that because we ordered a side of eggplant parm instead of just 'eggplant' there was a charge of $1.99 to add the cheese. Went back to the counter to complain and said we would never dine there again. We waited over 1/2 hr. just to get the bill. Waitress seemed overwhelmed and not totally experienced. Maybe they assigned her too many tables, although there were a few empty tables in our area. Maybe they were short staffed, but still no reason for poor service. read more

Greeted with a smile when we walked in the door. We sat at the bar and it all went down hill from there. The Scala bread served with olive oil was stale. The Caesar salad was the worst I've ever had. The romaine lettuce which is typically "green" was white. It was clearly the very end of the lettuce. I didn't eat it. Then I ordered my all time favorite, Chicken, broccoli and ziti and when it came out, it was more like a soup. The broccoli was overcooked (mushy) and the chicken and pasta were swimming in the broth. I ate as much as I could because I was starving, but I didn't finish it. My friend ordered Prime Rib (medium) and it also was overcooked (no pink in sight). She waited nearly 10 minutes for her side dish of roasted potatoes. I had to yell to the bartender to ask about the potatoes because she was chatting with co-workers. She said... oops, oh yeah, I forgot. We were later handed a bill with zero eye contact. She didn't ask if we needed or wanted anything else. What happened to the smile she greeted us with? Long gone. I used to love Scola's, but this new management is awful. It's all about employees chatting and having fun, and not focusing on the patrons, who are paying a lot of money for crappy service. I will never go there again! And finally, we typically give 25-30% tips because times are tough, but leaving 20% today was like swallowing broken glass. So disappointed. read more

Honestly the food was good (when it finally came) but everything else at this business is unraveling. Friends suggested we meet at Scolas in Dracut for dinner recently. I hadn't been in a long while and was not very impressed during my last visit but we agreed anyway. Our friends had the table already when we arrived so there was no wait but we were seated in the back room which has a tired, stale appearance now. Our server, although very nice, left us without so much as a hello for 15 minutes. Drinks and food were very slow and 2 of our meals came out wrong. I was promised a drink that after several visits to the table still seemed to evade us. The whole meal took over 2+ hours. I will say the food was fair. Mrs. StoneOld and I both had the Chicken Marsala. We were both surprised by how sickeningly sweet it was. It was far beyond the expected sweetness of the Marsala Wine. It honestly tasted as if it had been doctored with some type of sweetener. It sort of tasted like grape jelly. Not a good taste. I balanced it off with a good amount of salt. Large portion of Sautéed Chicken was well prepared and the Penne Pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente but; the syrupy sauce spoiled the dish. I enjoyed the Bread and Oil, which tasted of Basil Pesto. Service was friendly and attentive. Dinner Prices in the $20 range. Unlikely we'd go back but overall not a bad place. read more

Haven't been back since the place was sold & then had a pipe burst that had it closed for months. Pleasantly surprised by the inside when we went back in. It was always SO dark before. Now the woodwork is painted all white, it really brightens up the place. Tables also seem further apart, it used to be elbow to elbow in here, but now they use the backroom (formerly only had been in there for a Mercy Meal) for seating. There were six of us on a Saturday nite, I made a reservation online & we were seated immediately. PRO- The food was very good. The Mondelo's both had the old standby, Chicken Broccoli & Ziti, which was always good here & they said is still the same. Mrs. Haskell got the Steak Tips, which were perfectly cooked, grilled outside but still pink inside as ordered. Ward & I both went with the chicken, he the Picatta & I the Francese, both served over pasta with two large pieces of chicken on top. We'd get those meals again. Our server brought fresh bread & oil to dunk right after we were seated. She was very nice, obviously new though, but that is everyplace these days, so you can't hold that against anyone. It was busy & she had to hustle as she had alot of tables & she did her best. CON- The menu has shrunk considerably. Used to be pages long, now one page & some specials. Large drink menu does not offer Guinness. Made all the guys at our table sad. Mr. Haskell's Fish & Chips were TOTALLY underwhelming. Several small "squares" of fish, not a filet of fresh fish, on top of standard frozen- from-the-bag french fries. Wouldn't order that again. Ward asked for linguine with his meal, he got penne but didn't feel it was worth a complaint. SO - Place looks alot better inside, imo. Except for the Fish & Chips, we all enjoyed our food. This place was absolutely delicious! Went with my family for Mother's day and it was busy but the waitress was very attentive. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and every course was fabulous! We ordered the bruschetta and mussels for appetizers and were blown away. I had the short rib for dinner which was so tender and delicious. My husband couldn't decide so he ordered 2 entrees the bolognese and the chicken marsala, he couldn't stop raving about them both. Scolas was one of the best Italian meals I've had in a long time. They had bolognese arancini for a daily special appetizer. They were smaller than the average arancini, but they were delicious. Personally - I think these should be a permanent menu item in any Italian restaurant. For my entree, I got the chicken broccoli ziti alfredo. I don't like when alfredo sauce is too watery, but their alfredo absorbed perfectly into the pasta. The chicken was perfectly cooked too. The portion was G I A N T. Like seriously. I had another entire meal from it the next day. (Which tastes great leftover btw) My husband got the chicken parm dinner with ziti. He can be very picky and unfortunately this dinner did not please him. His main complaint was that the sauce was too sweet (I must agree, it was not the best sauce I ever tasted and I'm glad I got something without red sauce.) But, he liked the chicken and I enjoyed the bite of chicken I had as well. We split a cannoli which was a great way to end the meal. Overall I give Scolas a 7/10 - the main dining room has great decor and has a great atmosphere. We were seated in the back room which seems to be used more for functions maybe? Decent Italian food in Dracut with a family-owned vibe! Lots of options for lunch and dinner. They're known for their fresh Scali bread. It definitely tastes fresh, but I suspect the oil it was served with was not olive oil. The eggplant parm sub ($12) looked appealing: a 12" fresh Scali roll stuffed with tons of layers of thinly sliced eggplant. Unfortunately it was greasy and lacking in flavor. For Italian food in this area I prefer Mama's. Scola's lunch menu is a lot cheaper than the dinner menu, so I would recommend coming for lunch if you're hoping to try it out. read more

We were heartbroken visiting after about 25 years. No beer on tap and the place had none of the ambiance we knew it to have. Our meals were barely palatable and worst of all, the "waiter" said the table across the room paid for our drinks so we were suddenly getting a bill that had no accuracy as to what we actually ordered. I complained and said we need an accurate bill and the waiter acted frustrated and unprofessional to give us an accurate bill. $87 for two people for overcooked pasta and disappointing entrees. My date wanted lasagna and we were told that they stopped offering it because it requires a big pan and it doesn't sell. I have not been here in about 15yrs because I moved out of the area. We opted for dining out because it wasn't that hot and a great night for it. Inside is quite dark, so I was glad we could be out. Our waitress was very polite, friendly, and fast! We never felt rushed. Calamari and chicken parm were amazing. Kids spaghetti and meatballs was enough for 2-4 kids to share-no joke.
