Not sure why the bad reviews.. Different for different folks I suppose. Personally, I love Scoops and I've come religiously since it's opened. Yes decor, environment its all minimal, crowded, shit is not good enough blah blah or whatever but I guess I don't care about that stuff. I care about the ice cream.. and the ice cream is delicious. Ice cream is light, not too sweet and they have a variety of interesting flavors that change everyday. What I enjoy about this ice cream is that it's not so overpoweringly heavy. You can actually TASTE the subtle flavors (esp tea flavored ones) without being drowned in the taste of sugar or caramel. If you're expecting some heavy syrup topped glutenous ice cream you may have to drive to Cold Stone because there's none of that here. I've tried a variety of ice cream at Scoops and I'd have to say I enjoyed most of them. Honorable mention is Blueberry Jasmine and mint. I enjoy all the tea flavored ones. Unique flavors every day. Great prices -- $2.90 for one scoop (but it's really two scoops. I'm serious -- I don't know why they call it one scoop) As many samples as you want (you're going to need a second to figure out what you want). If you always get vanilla, you'll be disappointed -- they don't have vanilla. But I don't think that's a bad thing, get out of your comfort zone! Ambiance is barebones -- it's essentially a warehouse that happens to sell ice cream. But oddly enough, I find this atmosphere appealing! Absolutely fabulous vegan ice cream! I had the Pistachio Lavender which was so incredible! The flavors were just so wonderful on my tongue! I also had Chocolate Coconut which was awesome. I found this place out through buzzfeeds series worth it on YouTube, and it was near where I lived so I decided to shack it out. And im very glad I did. This is one of the best ice cream places in my area. The flavors are really unique, and out of the box! (Highly recommend brown bread flavor) as I was saying... the flavors definitely not flavors you would expect from a typical ice cream shop, but somehow scoops manages to make whatever interesting flavor you get to taste pretty dang delicious. There are several reasons I love Scoops. 1. A good sized single scoop is under $3!!! Their "single scoop" is more like 2 scoops so you can choose two flavors. 2. Non-dairy options are available. 3. The unique flavors: Strawberry Mint - more minty than strawberry and refreshing Blackberry Balsamic - kinda weird for me. Tasty but worth a whole scoop? Not so much. I could come to Scoops every day (and probably would if it weren't for my fiance being concerned with me developing diabetes or whatever...) It's easy to miss, as there is no sign, but since Donut Friend opened, that serves as a good landmark as they're next to each other. I have yet to try a flavor I didn't like, but you can't go wrong with the brown bread, & they always have a few flavors with Oreos mixed in. They have a lot of pretty inventive flavors, & take requests for future flavors. The dairy-free options are pretty tasty. They always are coming up with new and unique flavors so you're never bored (and have a board where you can write your suggestions). The portions are large and cheap for what you get. I WAS REFUSED SERVICE TODAY BECAUSE I HAVE EPILEPSY. Today I was refused service because of my service animal. The worker also asked me what kind of service animal is it (illegal to ask btw) and once I told him I was told that he is not a real service animal. My service dog also had his identification visible (badge and vest). I am utterly disgusted by how I was treated today. Not that it is anyone's business but I have a SAD (seizure alert dog) that helps assist with my epilepsy. After an extremely rough day all I wanted to do was get some ice cream and try to relax. I am so disappointed in what took place today. If I had a guide dog and blind would I have been allowed service? If I had a guide dog that assisted me while deaf would I have been allowed service? If I had a dog that assisted me with autism would I have been allowed service? What makes me having epilepsy the reason to be refused service? What a treasure to find this little place along a strip of street that has changed oh-so-much since I used to live near the area over 8 years ago. Watch for closely for it, because you might miss it, especially when the bus is stopped right in front. Scoops has a sparse interior, but I am not one to care much about that sort of thing. It felt refreshing, actually, and we didn't go there to hang out. Who wants to sit around inside when there is bright sunshine outside to melt your ice cream while you walk? My boyfriend and I tried their signature brown bread flavor (giant scoops of it!), which was buttery and not too sweet, studded with little crunchy bits of what I'm guessing was actually toasted brown bread! I also got some of the intense green tea, which was almost musky with flavor. Highly enjoyable. Most of all, I need to mention the delightful Ernestine who did our scooping that afternoon. Seriously, we couldn't stop talking about how awesome she was and how our interaction with her made our day. Also, I must say anyone who agrees with me that chocolate flavor is overrated and that cake cones are far superior to sugar cones is top in my book! Yep, Ernestine and I shared a moment over that. To be honest, I came in here accidentally on my way to Donut Friend. What a happy error! The server was very friendly and he offered me some samples. They have plenty of interesting flavors. I ended up ordering the chocolate chip cheesecake and butterfinger. They were so delicious! The texture of the ice cream is so smooth and creamy; definitely a quality product. Even more surprising was the price- $3 for two scoops. Such a great deal! Be sure to bring cash- they don't accept credit cards. My only criticism is the decor/design of the shop. It's the perfect size and it looks very clean, but the overall design is quite bland. I think the owners should spruce it up a little with bright colors and better seating. Went to scoops for the first time. Was really looking forward to it based upon Yelp reviews. I really wanted to like it, but was disappointed. I got one scoop on a sugar cone.
