I sample as many flavors as I can before annoying the staff. The flavors are very unique. Almond Roca? Guinness+Tiramisu? Yep! There are always a couple of soy-based ice cream flavors. When you order one scoop, you get 2 balls with 2 different flavors. You can get it in a cup or a cone. My coworkers and I came here when they were just getting settled in to their new digs in HiPa. Oh yes I did just use Highland Parks new hip nickname. Oh yes I did. They were probably just a few days new. As in no sign on the outside new. The space was still a work in progress, with nothing much but a big room, an ice cream case and a friendly girl scoopin' up scoops. There were guys in the back of the room assembling what looked like soon-to-be-mounted colorful art for the walls. Scoops HiPa was already a young parent magnet. There had to be like a good 3-4 couples with strollers in tow here for their scoops fix. I sampled a bunch of the different flavors, and decided to go for the vegan options. Unfortunately I didn't try that popular bread flavor that everyone raves about, but I'll check it out next time. I am normally not a fan of "healthy" versions of sweets, but Scoops has it down. You can't even tell that it's any healthier. Well, who knows if it's healthier. It just works better for people who have dietary restrictions/preferences. My two scoops: Strawberry poppyseed w/ chocolate molasses. Full flavor, surprisingly creamy and a nice combination of flavors. I can't believe that Scoops has finally arrived at Highland Park (my hood)! After all these years of finding a legit ice cream/gelato shop near my area, it is now safe to say that Scoops will be THE place for me. Since this place is brand spanking new, it was difficult finding it at first due to no sign up front. However, we finally got in and saw only a large, white room filled with only a few sets of benches on each side, a creative masterpiece made out of tiny plastic spoons, and the ice cream. What really got to me were the unique variety of ice cream flavors from jasmine to white chocolate. They even have their specialty, brown bread! For my one scoop, which is actually two scoops for two flavors, I had the white chocolate and salted caramel. I loved the white chocolate flavor because it was sweet and creamy whereas the salted caramel tasted salty but extraordinary. As for service, it was excellent. I like the music they play, and it's a bright location that gets plenty of sunshine. I have one qualm, though. And it's a big one. This location is SEVERELY lacking seating for customers! If you come here, there are a few ottomans along the reduced perimeter storefront. there is a huge potential for indoor seating, but I don't think this location is quite ready for that, yet. At any rate, be prepared to take your gelato to go on a nice jaunt down York Blvd if you're visiting during the day. It's usually nice outside! There is a spoon artwork sign that spells out SCOOPS in neon yellow, in case you are wondering exactly where the store is. Treat yourself to a gelato happy hour! There are a number of meters out front and there is also a lot behind the citibank/clinic across the street. One quarter will get you half an hour - woo! The flavors are creative/original or have a little twist to them. You can get a scoop, purchase a taster (@ two pricing schemes: 6-11 flavors and then 12-18 flavors), pint, etc. The single scoop is super generous and it's essentially 2 scoops @ $3.25. What a steal! This is probably one of the best ice cream parlors around in terms of taste, price, and quality and I have been to a majority of the ones in the SGV/LA area! There are a couple of other Scoops nearby (Chinatown, L.A. area), but this one definitely blows them out of the water. The Scoops here always has a revolving door of delicious flavors like Oreo, Vanilla Raspberry, Olive Oil, Rosemary with Lavender, Green Tea Kailua and Raspberry Tea. It is never the same flavor every time I come which can be somewhat disappointing if you were looking to get the same flavor again, but there is always a new one to try and enjoy, so be bold! Each flavor is unique and the best part is that you can sample them until you decide which one you like! I always manage to find a flavor that I like each time that I go! The staff at this Scoops always pack the ice cream to the max so that is always a plus to coming here! I typically do the two scoops in a cup for $3.75 and it is more than enough ice cream to share and enjoy for yourself! It is never too crowded here and the lines go by quickly after people finish sampling and decided what they want. Popped into Scoops to see what all the fuss was about and have to say their reputation was very well earned -- as far as the ice cream anyways. I tried the lavender goat cheese honey and the brown butter -- both were pretty phenomenal. You could literaly taste the creamy butterfat in these. The only downside is it's a total zoo. You almost have to push your way to the front to get someone's attention. They need to install a # system or a better ordering of the line or something cuz it was just kind of a mish-mash of folks trying to sample and order stuff.
