Do NOT recommend! And this company really does not care if you have any issues with their products. They gave me a scooter that was who knows how old, and not only did the battery not last as long as it's supposed to, but the battery indicator was inaccurate. It died on me twice even though the lights did not indicate that it was low. The first time we thought the battery hadn't been fully charged before they dropped it off at the hotel, because it's supposed to last 6-8 hours and only lasted for 5, but no, it only lasted 5 hours the second time as well. Nobody from the company could help us when we got stranded, they told us we had to push it back to the hotel ourselves. How are people with limited mobility like myself supposed to do that? My 80 year old mother tried pushing it but the wheels kept locking up. We got stuck in traffic in the middle of the street twice! Finally a nice couple offered to help and we slowly but surely got it back to the hotel. The second time we got stuck with it in a museum. Security agreed to let us leave it there but then Scootaround said they would only pick it up where it was dropped off so we'd have to bring it back to the hotel again. Not possible. So they finally said they would retrieve it at the museum. No refund or even partial refund. Customer service was rude and not well informed at all about their products. Shame shame. read more

I would really recommend not renting with this company. If something goes wrong, they don't really care. I rented my scooter over the summer and have been waiting months to hear back from the company. With no word in 6 months I feel it's fair to leave this review now. I rented my scooter for a convention at the DC convention center in early August. The scooter they sent me was faulty and the battery was draining extremely fast. Sometimes it would say it was full and then not even five minutes later that I was close to being empty and I needed to charge it ASAP. I ended up missing a lot of the con because of this. I called and asked for a replacement, but they told me they would not be able to deliver it until late the next day, which didn't work for me because I had scheduled events I needed to attend. I told him that wouldn't work for me, but since they could not give it to me any faster, I just tried to tough it out for the rest of the convention. When I called the following pick up of the scooter to give my feedback on the experience, the woman on the phone apathetically offered me a partial refund. I told her I didn't want that, I just wanted someone to call me back about the issue because it was a really disappointing experience that I haven't had with any other mobility equipment rental company. As per the beginning of my review, I never got a call back. So overall, terrible product, terrible customer service, & I will never use them again. read more

I booked a scooter for my disabled Mother's first trip to Disney World. Scootaround confirmed the scooter delivery date and time twice. 9 days after receiving the final confirmation and five days before the trip, I was contacted by Scootaround and told that they could not meet the agreed upon delivery dates and times because their Warehouse was closed. How did they not know the their warehouse schedule? Why were the dates and time even available when I made the reservation. They only offered three dates and times that they could make the delivery but they did not fit my travel schedule. The entire trip was planned around the availability and delivery of the scooter. I was left scrambling to find another scooter company five days before my trip. read more

I have never left a yelp review but I have to do so tonight to warn people about using scootaround. I'm sure if the product works the service is fine, but unfortunately for me and my mother the scooter did not work; it malfunctioned. When we requested a replacement, they Asked us to try it for one more day saying that they could not come out. We were never able to use it beyond a few steps. When we called again, we were given a wheelchair, which worked, albeit more physically taxing on me. I was told we would get a price adjustment because the wheelchair costs much less than the scooter. After a few days of no adjustment on my account, I sought a partial refund and was told that one was owed to me and would be coming. But after a few weeks, it was still not credited, and when I called, I never received a return call from the accounting department. I tried to appeal to my bank but scootaround claimed that the charge was fair because i originally agreed to pay for the scooter. What they failed to acknowledge was that the scooter was defective, and so we weren't able to use it. They broke our contract by delivering a product that did not work. Moreover they almost ruined my mother's trip to Washington DC for my work conference. For them to not seek to make us whole is completely unethical. Mistakes happen; products sometimes break. No big deal. But an honest business would have at least called me back and offered a concession for our trouble and for the fact that a wheelchair is a completely different product than a scooter and cost less. I cannot in good conscience allow this company to get away with what it did without saying something about it. Think twice before using scootaround; there are other companies in Washington DC. I can't speak for others but with respect to me, Scootaround was dishonest and unprofessional at a time when I truly needed a reliable company. If the company would like to repair our relationship by at least calling me, I would be happy to update this review. read more

My mother, who is in her 90's, and recently has become unable to walk, visited me in DC. I searched locally for a place to rent a wheelchair and didn't find a place that I would recommend based on reviews. So I took a chance with Scootaround. The customer service on the phone was excellent. They delivered and picked up the wheelchair at my apartment early in the range of hours the quoted me on the phone. The first day I realized that the chair they gave me had a defective wheel and they found a new one and delivered it to me at the museum we were visiting. The prices seemed reasonable to me, and it was wonderful to be able to push my mom around the city. The wheelchair was collapsible so we were able to put it in the back of taxis. All in all, a great experience. As a FYI- they have offices throughout the US so I may use them again if my mom is up to traveling. read more

Even though I greatly appreciate the thought and intention behind this service, I found my experience with them less than wonderful. Please keep in mind the price to have your rental delivered will cost almost the full amount you pay for the rental. (i.e. we paid for a wheelchair for 3 days, but paid almost double the quoted price because delivery is not included. Also, you cannot pick it up.) The website allows you to choose exact delivery times, but then they call you to tell you that you have to set a 2 hour delivery window. I also received a 2nd phone call asking for my AARP number since I had used that discount. Hardly a seamless experience. The wheelchair arrived within the scheduled time (8:00-10:00am) and the person dropping it off was friendly and professional. The wheelchair itself was in bad shape, the arm rest for the right side had been completely ripped off, and you couldn't use it at all because it would hurt your arm pretty badly. The worst part of the experience was the pick up. They were supposed to come pick it up between 8:00-10:00am. When that window rolled past, they did not call me. When I finally called a couple hours later, they said they couldn't tell me when the pick up would be. When I asked for a reason they said "I don't know, sometimes they have a lot to do." This wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't been scheduled a window of time for the pick up. They showed up to pick it up around 3:30. Luckily I was working from home that day, but this would not work if you were dependent on them being on time. I guess the main thing is this company leaves out a lot of details and this leave a lot to be desired. We will be in need of a service like this anytime family visits in the future to get around, and next time we will be taking our business elsewhere. Unless you are 2856385658% flexible and don't have many things on your schedule I suggest you do the same. read more
