Scopazzi's has been around for as long as I can recall. Top shelf restaurant, and top notch service that has a professional, yet personal feel to it. It has a charming old school touch to it where you feel welcome like when people used to be courteous, and kind. Not too many places these day's have this kind of service any longer. They personally have gone out of their way to provide items, such as my favorite ice cream, and purchased it bulk for me. There aren't any places like this around. Smells like heavy old wood. Looks like a lot of dark heavy wood. And the view is nice enough. And that seems to be what they're charging for primarily. I suppose it's nice enough as a romantic place in the middle of the mountains, but it's not really about the food, or the service. I grew up eating in old school Italian and steakhouses. Scopazzi's brings that all back in the best of all that it can offer. Finally tried it for dinner and left very happy and had a wonderful time. Order a Caesar salad and they make it table side with flair. The same with the banana foster. The service is wonderful and the food was fantastic, the salmon with risotto was full of flavor. And the bar is old school, well stocked and a great place to hang after dinner or just having a cocktail with friends. read more

Thank God for Scopazzi's. Without it, I would no doubt starve in Boulder Creek, and as far as I am concerned, it is the ONLY option from Boulder Creek to Santa Cruz to enjoy a nice meal with family and friends. The place is totally charming with good food to boot! The patio is my favorite place to belly up, but inside is nice as well. The staff are all really nice and experienced. I love going there on nice weekends to have lunch on the patio, but note: don't be in a hurry. I think their lunch crowd may be hit or miss so they some times get caught off guard and find themselves understaffed. As long as you can overlook this point and relax, you'll have a great time! read more

Like others have said, this place is an institution up here in the sticks. I've been going here since the early 70's and it always feels like visiting an old friend, despite the fact the ownership changed hands recently. The locals here practically live in the bar, which is a cozy, old school, dark tavern kind of vibe. The bar and wait staff are always professional and friendly. The wife and I like to go to the bar and order stiff drinks and appetizers on rainy nights. Love the escargot and oysters rockefeller - some of the best in Nor Cal!! The restaurant has an old lodge feel complete with a cozy stone fireplace. The dishes evoke something from the 50's or 60's. It's real old style, upscale fare with some classics that have been on the menu for literally decades (and that's a good thing). One beef: their vegetables always seem overcooked, but I can live with that. Scopazzi's is not trendy, but IS the real deal all around. Please don't change a thing! read more

Awesome spot. Boulder Creek is such an interesting little town - quaint and cute in a retro wild west way but has a bunch of people that look really strung out. Scopazzi's on the other hand is pretty refined. The ambiance is great and the food and service are amazing. You must try the Chocolate angel strata Pie for dessert, even if you're stuffed, it's to die for! (and huge - one is definitely enough to share) enjoy! read more

We were so happy to find this place. We had had a horrible day, and we just wanted to treat ourselves, and this was the place to do it. We went here for Mother's Day Brunch. We had a large party of about 20. The server was fantastic. She was very attentive and everything came out as ordered. I had the artichoke and spinach frittata. This was very yummy. My husband had the crab cakes with avacado salsa, fantastic. If you are in the mood for a lovely drive through the mountains with a yummy, relaxing meal, this is the place. I have been going to Scopazzis for almost 40 years. It's a great option in the area. My husband and I eat there often and are familiar with the staff. Last night we came for dinner and unfortunately sat there for 30 min and nobody gave us menus, took drink orders or even checked in at all. Others who came after us received menus and service. We ultimately walked out and went elsewhere. It was frustrating. The restaurant should value all customers and improve the system on how to address all incoming customers. read more

The three of us were visiting a relative, whose birthday we wanted to celebrate. She picked Scopazzi's, which is down the street from her. Truthfully, we city cousins were dubious because of its neon signage & the fact that we weren't expecting much from this neck of the woods. However, our prejudices were happily unfounded. While this is an expensive restaurant, it does have vintage steakhouse classics like bananas foster & cherries jubilee. Since we were a large party, we received 2 relish plates, which were consumed with gusto. I went with the less pricey chicken cacciatore; my friend & his son both ordered the filet mignon; and the relatives had Gorgonzola ravioli, spaghetti with meatballs, & pasta primavera. All our meals came with salads, so of course I went with the soup. My soup & chicken were delicious. The steaks were perfectly cooked, juicy, tender, & very buttery. I didn't try the spaghetti or veggie pasta, but I can say with certainty that the ravioli was divine -- so rich & creamy, so very decadent. I was suffering from food envy but I heroically kept it to myself. Lastly, we ordered 2 servings of the bananas foster as some of us hadn't ever experienced it. Our waiter was a real champ, & seemed pleased to show off for us after he learned of this fact. It was a joy to watch the massive flames engulf what turned out to be a scrumptious, banana-y topper to a perfect meal. read more

Over priced and Rude Manager, Save your money!! My wife and I have been coming here for years and loved the Deep Woods steak house feel. It's been a few years since we last visited the restaurant and were very excited to celebrate my wife's birthday their this last Saturday. I was looking forward to the Lamb and the $38 didn't scare me away. The restaurant is still beautiful and lived up to expectation. Service and Food quite the contrary. Service was very slow and non attentive our waiter disappeared. Food, Prime Rib was great, Eggplant Parmesan was cold, Calamari Friti ok. Lamb, what I was most looking forward to, was raw and had no substance. I was ok paying the $38 for the rack of lamb, and could have dealt with the under cooked meat. There was no meat on it? I would have normally not said anything, but I really feel for what they are charging I was being ripped off! I wanted to be discreet and talk to the manager privately from the table, so I went up to him and explained my frustration. He comes back to the table and confronts me in front of my family and mother in law saying he served over 300 ppl today and no complaints. Very rude. You need to read the book "A complaint is a Gift" I guarantee you had many unhappy customers that night. On a good note they took the lamb of the bill. read more

Scopazzi's is a timeless legend. We went for Christmas Eve lunch, everything was decorated for Christmas, complete with a roaring fire. The food was great and was an overall very pleasant experience. Prices seemed appropriate, and I loved checking out the photos of historic Boulder Creek. We need more sit-down restaurants like this in downtown. read more

So the service was goodish. I walked in with my parents and the bartender tried best to get a hostess to seat us. The waiter was very attentive. The atmosphere was very much trying to be something that it is not. It is not a five stat restaurant in San Francisco. It is not worth $35 per plate a la carte. It is not a fancy restaurant despite the carts they bring the food on. Speaking of which. My medium rare steak was RAW. My lobster was frozen. My mashed potatoes were rotten. My stepfathers meat was fatty as all hell. My Mother seemed to get the only halfway decent plate. The wine selection was horrific. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Even though the reviews here are mixed, we thought we'd try Scopazzi's since there are so few restaurants in the San Lorenzo Valley & there was a blue grass festival going on in Boulder Creek. We were there early & it wasn't busy but nevertheless the gals at the bar acted like they couldn't care less about serving us. Even a 'hello I'll get back to you in just a minute' would have been fine...When one of them finally got around to asking us "what do you want?", we asked for the wine list, at which point she practically rolled her eyes & headed on down the bar. The portions ended up to be miserly, they asked for our credit card to keep while we were there listening to the music (is this common in the SLV??), & in the end we decided not to stay for dinner due to the rudeness of the staff. So I can't rate the food but I say a zero for the service & I don't care how the good the food might be if the staff acts like they can't be bothered. Instead we enjoyed the Brewery down the street - they don't put themselves out as "classy" but they have good food and friendly people..& great blue grass music! read more

Scopazzi's is a boulder creek landmark. Excellent menu. The linguini al vongole is my favorite, and the specials always delicious.portions range from OK to very generous. I have never seen anything that didn't look good. Nice complimentary crudités. wine list is adequate but not exciting. cheerful service ranging from flawless professionals to sweet beginners. In the cold weather, try to sit close to the wood burning fireplace. Also a fireplace in the large bar area. terrific lumber era architecture. good parking. A fun place, all around. read more

We visited this restaurant twice. The lounge area is very cozy, we love to sit next to the beautiful fire place all night long. However, the food was horrible..The pork chop was super salty and the salmon was super sweet.. It's okay to come here for drink but definitely not for food. read more

thought a lot about this one. Its the best restaurant around I suspect-- though I really like the German Tyrolian Inn down the street. Italian is more universal than German. This is an old style American Italian... rat pack old. So was the menu. And the food, while nice, was nothing to write home about. I had the gnocchi. Tasted processed not homemade. The sauteed artichoke hearts were meh. Some of the other dinners looked too saucy, though no one complained. The price of $200 for 5 with 1 bottle of wine and 1 desert made me question the value. Will I go back? Yea, but because when I am visiting the area (frequently) there are not a lot of choices. The pianist was a nice touch. read more

Tasty for sure!... But save your money and go over the hill to Los gatos or Saratoga of your looking for delicious "fancy" food... We're in the neck of the woods, so this place is a pretty unique restaurant and bar, but I'd just rather drive a little further and spend the money on a place that I know the food is fresh and farm to table.. Hard to get that in the mountains when the only deliver once a week because we're so far away... Been here for ages though so they are clearly doing something right... First, this is an Italian restaurant, not American as listed. 2nd it can be expensive if you order a big dinner, but it doesn't have to be if you order smart. They have reasonably priced dishes. The service is very good. There are even table side prepared items for fun. You can customize anything. The food is delicious. A great choice when visiting Big Basin Park. read more

The food and service are normally good. We ordered three Thanksgiving dinners to pick up and eat at home, as my 89 year old mother-in-law can no longer leave the house. When I went to pick up the food, I asked and was assured that the order was correct. When I got home I found that the cream of mushroom soup was actually minestrone, which my wife cannot eat. It added stress to our Thanksgiving Day experience. For $66.00 plus tip, I would have expected our order to be correct. I would eat there, but if you are picking up food to eat at home, definitely take it out of the bag and make sure that they got it right. read more

This is a tough one. My wife and I, daughter and son-in-law were excited to eat here, after reading so much about it, admittedly with mixed reviews. First the food was good for the most part, The Duck, Scallops, and the Prawns were cooked nicely. The Calamari, not so good: the breading was bland and dry (and looked nothing like the picture below). Then there was the atmosphere: delightful ambiance, wooden architecture with open beams, mood lighting, dim but not dark and comfortable seating. Plus the music was unimposing, with pleasant, good, smooth jazz. The service? not so good. Our server was uninspiring, almost wooden in nature, no charm almost like a cutout. One bright spot: she substituted our chosen wine for a higher priced one because our choice was not in stock and did not charge us the difference. The runner was fantastic, very attentive and charming. Lastly, and why the "2" rating: service to our table from the salad to the entree's was dismally slow. In fact, two couples that came in some time after us were served before us with our orders taken after theirs. We were not slow in deciding, just kept waiting. The restaurant was hardly crowded, in fact perhaps only a dozen or so (and half of those already served) in a fairly large and accommodating dining area. We realise restaurants have their usual clientele and favorites, but this service slight was just too obvious. Is it worth the price we paid ($150) probably not, especially not with the service we had. We've had better food and service at The Good Fork in Morgan Hill, for less $$. This may very well be the best SLV has to offer, so we'll see. We will probably go back hoping the service is better, but will I recommend it to our friends and family? Not until we check it out further. read more
