I walked in having finished 1/3 of the Pacific Coast Route on an old bike that was in a fender bender, and needed way too many parts replaced to be cost effective. So I knew I needed a new bike. They guys at the shop were patient and courteous. No high pressure. But clearly knew their bikes. After I looked at three other bike ships in the area, it was clear that this one had the best prices, and I think the most knowledgeable staff. They set up the bike efficiently, and even changed the gear shifters without charge. And it felt like I was moving up from a thirty year old station wagon to a new Mazda Miata, without breaking the bank. Yes, I happily finished my ride to the Mexico border. read more

We purchased a Trek bike here on July 25 specifically for our son's birthday on August 13. When we ordered it, we made it clear that it was a birthday present. We were told it would probably arrive around August 1 and no later than August 7, which gave us confidence that we had plenty of time before his birthday. When the bike didn't arrive, we received no call or update from the shop. We had to call them ourselves. At that point, we were told it would be at least another 10 days and that they "don't have any control over when stuff comes in." That's where I became really disappointed with the experience. I completely understand that shipping delays happen. What I don't understand is giving a customer a specific timeframe--including telling us no later than August 7--and then taking no accountability when that timeframe isn't met. There was no apology, no acknowledgment that we had relied on the information we were given, and no proactive communication to let us know the bike was going to be late. At that point, with our son's birthday only days away, we had to cancel the order and scramble to find the exact bike somewhere else. Finding that particular bike in the right size on such short notice was not easy. We eventually located one at a Trek dealer in Beaverton and had to drive there to get it. When we explained the situation to the Beaverton shop, they told us Trek bikes typically arrive within 7-10 days and that they generally know when their shipments are expected. Thankfully, they had what we needed and our son was able to get the bike for his birthday. The frustrating part wasn't simply that a shipment was delayed. Things happen. It was being told "probably by August 1 and no later than August 7," receiving no communication when that didn't happen, and then being told it would be at least another 10 days with no apology or accountability. That left us scrambling at the last minute to solve a problem we thought we had taken care of nearly three weeks before his birthday. I don't expect a bike shop to control shipping. I do expect them to stand behind the expectations they give their customers, communicate when something goes wrong, and at the very least acknowledge it when they let a customer down. read more

Friendly staff and great store layout with lots of different types of bicycles. I bought a Trek FX Sport 4 for riding around town and bike paths when I do not want to ride one of my drop bar bikes. Scott's Cycle is a nice little bike shop at the south end of downtown Salem. The staff is friendly, and I was very pleased with how quickly they took care of my cycling needs. My Trek Checkpoint ALR5 has over 4500 miles on it, and had started breaking rear spokes more often than I would like. I decided to replace the whole wheel, and found the one I wanted listed on Scott's website. After a call to make sure it was in stock, I decided to drop my bike off for them to swap out the cassette, brake disc, etc. I was pleasantly surprised when they called the next day to say the bike was finished, as it was two days ahead of schedule. After picking up my bike, I was ready to give 5 stars, until I took it out for a spin later in the evening. Something wasn't right... [Edit]After discovering multiple issues with the rear cassette, which made the bike unusable (fixed myself now), I have lowered my rating from 4 to 3 stars. I am going to contact the store regarding the issues, rather than hashing them out here. read more

If there was a zero star review option I certainly would mark it. I bought a new Trek Procaliber hard tail from these guys Feb 4th, 2022 and it became an absolute nightmare. Trek gives a 30 day exchange guarantee. I decided after a couple weeks that I wanted a Supercaliber instead (I spent $4300.00 up from $2300.00) of the Procaliber. When I went back to Scott's they instantly went from warm to cold, very cold. Larry (looks like Larry David tho not funny) charged me a restocking fee and made me feel very awkward and uncomfortable about choosing to spend 2k more. Probably because they didn't have a Supercaliber and I would be getting it in Portland. I figured this guy might be a 'D' when I returned the bike so I hedged and contacted Trek corporate beforehand. They said if Larry gave me any trouble to contact them. I did and Trek corporate refunded the absurd restock fee and gave me a bunch of free stuff (enduro biking gloves, combo lock tee shirts etc). Come to find out, Scott's is not a corporate store and therefore able to go outside Treks corporate rules. Scott's is happy to 'TAKE' your money, just don't ask to exercise your 30 day exchange option. I drove all the way from Portland to buy the Procaliber since it was the 'ONLY' one on the West Coast. I spent almost 3k at Scott's believing I could exchange my bike for like or better if I chose to and then they treated me like a maggot when I did. If you really want a 'REAL' Trek bike, buy one at a Trek corporate store ONLY. Scott's cycle loves your money, but that's it. Shame on them. read more

(wrong address - it's SE Commercial) Dropped in on my way to SF from Hornby after a massive and delicious platter of huevos rancheros at Busick Court cafe, which is about 2 blocks away on Court/Commercial. Nice open floor and good light, tons of stuff, though no track stuff that I could see... odd for Oregon I thought, since it's crawling with urban hipsters... maybe that's more Portland. Anyway, I had to buy some Scott's Cyclery stuff cuz, well, my name's Scott, and I have to represent... myself, I guess. $89.95 is a tad steep for a Canari (not Assos or Castelli) jersey I thought, but bought one anyway. ~$5 Scott's water bottles (by Trek) were a touch steep as well, and I already lost one, since they are slightly smaller than standard and I have a Performance bottle cage on my Steelman... a disgrace perhaps, but it's stainless steel and actually looks handsome. Anyway, nice guys at the shop, and it's big. Plenty of bmx crap, which i'm not too excited about, but someone probably is. In all, a fine shop that I would frequent again when/if in Salem, Oregon. read more

Stopped by Scott's on a Saturday morning after breaking the rear derailleur hanger on my bike part way through a ride. The staff was great. Despite being busy they scoured the shop and found the part and repaired the bike while I waited. These guys are great and we will be back! read more

They did not bother to call me when the work was done. I told them at the time I rode the bike everyday to work. I left 2 phone numbers but got zero calls the work was done, it was only after I called them to see how much longer (it had been almost 3 weeks) that I found out it the work was done and had been ready 10 days ago. Hourly workers just don't care, no one said sorry, or did nothing to make it right. Will never buy or take some thing to them again. Your employees just cost you someone that could have been a regular customer. I'll take my $$ to a bike shop that cares about customer service. read more

The internet won't repair your bike. Scott's Cycle, will. Great service. Knowledgeble staff, and locally owned. Yeah you might be able to get a good deal on a bike on-line, but then you'll need to put it together and hope it fits. I haven't been in this shop specifically because the riders on the streets (riding under the Scott's name) are extremely rude, pompous and give other riders a bad name. No regard for other people, cars or bikes alike. If you want fresh business, don't let the riders use your name, or provide courtesy/road sharing classes for the team. The gear, prices and service may be good, but their outside representation is not. read more
