Stopped here for lunch. My husband came here in the 90s when going on charter fishing trips. He always raved about the perch. The decor hasn't changed since the 90s. We each had soup, french onion and crab. Both were OK not anything special. I had the perch sandwich and hubby had perch dinner. Both came with fries. The perch was very good as we're the fries. On the 4th of July, 2016, our last night here, it was a birthday dinner for my son. He was interested in steak and most of downtown Ludington was lacking in selection or closing early to go watch fireworks. We had a party of 7 and were quickly accommodated. This place reminds of Luckys Prime in that the ambience is 2-3 star, but the food and service are 4 star. Impressive selections of filet mignon, lobster tail, swordfish, french onion soup, perch, shrimp cocktail, and fried shrimp were amongst the things we all enjoyed. The portions were generous and the food was perfectly cooked and obviously fresh. I have dined at Mortons, Capital Grille, Ocean Prime, by the way. Stopped on a winter Thursday and there weren't many people there. It's true the decor and menu could use updating but there's something nostalgic about the easy listening music and ambience. The prime rib was wonderful and there was even a candle to keep my au jus warm. Hubby had the goulash special and enjoyed it. We visited here on the strength of Yelp reviews, particularly of seafood. We enjoyed our escargot starter -- the snails were nested on little beds of garlicky spinach, with melted butter and garlic bread. My spouse also had a cup of onion soup -- rich flavor, hint of sherry, not salty or sloppy. For dinner, I had the redtaurant's award- winning fried local perch, with redskin potatoes, while Dear Spouse ordered crab- stuffed shrimp over seasoned rice. My perch was some of the best I've ever had -- gently fried, delicate, naturally sweet and generously portioned. The shrimp were also very good -- flavorful stuffing, tasty rice that wasn't just a throwaway starch on the plate. Service was friendly and very professional. Now, having said all that...although aesthetics isn't nearly as important to me as food quality and service, the restaurant feels as if It's in an early 1970's time warp. The menu choices and preparations are often dated -- baked fish covered in Swiss cheese; seafood choices like swordfish and orange roughy that are not only not sustainable but not what people are interested in eating today; fussy presentations, like the tea- light butter cups that came with our snails ; raggedy kale garnishes tossed on plates. The aesthetic of the dining area is also dated -- there's a nice installation of fused glass on one wall, a whimsical Chihuly-like sculpture hanging from the ceiming and blown glass orbs scattered about that would be light and fun and evocative of water and beaches in a light, bright, minimalist interior, but they're trapped in a room with dark timbers and ahoy- mate woodworking/ furniture. The sun room has glorious, healthy hanging plants, but the dark main room has a few spindly draecena plants here and there and awful plastic vines twirling above the booth section. If I were a reality- TV makeover person I would emphasize local fish and lighten up the recipes; use imported fish judiciously.and with an eye toward lighter, brighter dishes; maybe pay more attention to the vegetable sides and highlight all the wonderful veggies and produce grown in west Michigan; and update the interior while keeping the unique art objects. read more

The coating was just right (light) and it was cooked to perfection, which can be tricky since most places seem to overcook fish. Everything was hot and delicious and the service was great. The food was eh. The crab stuffed shrimp was actually Krab stuffed shrimp. The waiter had no clue about the food and just gave random answers that were not accurate. He then tried to rush us through our meal, trying to take my daughter's plate and box it a number of times while she was still eating. They extended their hours for brunch so that we can enjoy the classic Sunday breakfast everyday! The menu is updated and provides a full beer and wine list, both include local breweries and wineries. The food is great as always, they are very well staffed and have a welcoming vibe throughout the restaurant. They have lobster Tuesday and great weekend specials. I've read a few reviews complaining about the smoke at this place, but Michigan has recently passed a smoking ban in restaurants, so that is no longer a worry. We had a party of 10 on a 4th of July evening and had no problems getting a table. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and after they closed early for the holiday, they didn't make us feel like we needed to get the hell out. Prices were typical for a seafood restaurant, $15 to $20 for a seafood/steak dinner. Our server offered to split the checks for all of us, which alleviates that awkward post-meal expense itemizing. My recommendation on food would be to get the artichoke dip. It was one of the most amazing foods I have ever tasted. Almost stopped on the way out of town to get a few to go. read more

But it offers a broad menu with a lot of seafood (crab, lobster), pasta, prime rib, fish, and some interesting dishes such as chicken with peaches, and there's even a large kids menu. Good selection of wine and beer. Service was slow and servers could know the menu better when customers ask questions, but they are very nice. I ordered the house salad (it was ok, it was an Asian salad, would suggest the tossed salad instead), and the chicken with peaches (chicken was a over cooked and the dish was very sweet (guess that's what you get with peaches), others in the dinner party ordered Alaskan King Crab ($30 but very good), orange ruffy stuffed with crab (didn't try it but looked very good and received rave reviews from my fellow diner), fried shrimp and fries, kids' spaghetti (huge order and tasty) and kids' pizza stick (seemed a little too dry, bready to me). Drinks were reasonably priced but entrees are $15-$30. We made reservations on a weeknight in the summer during prime dinner hour but plenty of seats were available. Food is fine here. I'm vegetarian and had the Roma pasta. Good amount of veggies in it and cheese sauce was flavorful. My husband had the prime rib which he found to be very much to his taste. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Having said that, it irks me to no end when a hostess refuses to seat us in a booth when they are obviously open ones available. There were 6 booths. Only one was occupied. The hostess told us she had to keep them open for up to 2 hours for incoming reservations! We told her we would be quick--we don't drink and we generally do not have desserts. She stated she had to do that just in case someone comes early--2 HOURS--really?? We were saved by our server. I had a sour look on my face--she noticed and we told her the situation. She took us over to the booth section and I calmed down to enjoy my dinner. read more

We chose this restaurant because of the great fish reviews. As soon as we walked in I knew it was a mistake. There were so many large rooms with all 80's decor, over grow gigantic plants, and then very modern art on the wall. We both ordered deviled cod, which was good, not great, but was $18 with 1 side, a choice of potato (what my husband ordered), a choice of a vegetable (which came in a tiny, tiny, bowl that I ordered). If you wanted a salad it was extra, And when they brought the bread, we laughed so hard because it was the tiniest little triangle of pre made "rolls". I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir that tasted like it was opened 3 days ago and at the bottom of the bottle. We were budgeted for this trip, and we're so very disappointed by this restaurant. Went there on Tuesday for the deep fried Asparagus, which was excellent. Unfortunately, I thought I would try the luncheon prime rib. 20 years ago it was really good. I asked if it was prime rib warmed up and was told it was fresh and was just cooked. Well I received an eighth inch sliced prime rib. I ordered it medium rare, which it appeared to be. I have lived in the area for over 40 years. Scotty's used to be good. Tonight it was horrible! The staff was hurried and it was not that busy, we were kinda rushed to order. I had the Prime Rib: seasoning was not present, was dry, and NOT warm, room temp. The Backed Potato: I could have covered it with my hand, so small. Not cooked all the way, hard in the middle. Sour cream, butter and "chives" that's it if you wanted. Should have been LARGE potato, butter, bacon bits, cheese and sour cream should be offered. Texas toast: toasted yes, butter yes, wacked with a knife to cut into, yes. The fish that my husband ordered was not eaten. He just could not bring himself to force it down. I have had better "fish and chips" at a bar than here. Hand cut French fries: Limp, tasteless, old. Lake Perch: Fish yes, lake perch hmmmm? No seasoning, was not fresh, was frozen. Beef Barley Soup: not bad Toss Salad: it's a salad, oil and vinegar dressing.... bottles needed to be cleaned off, stickey , really folks. Dinner Rolls: Cheap thaw and bake.... Pepsi Drink: Recalibrate the machine, weak mixture, poor quality drink. Dinner price: $47.70 before tip Why do I tell you all of this? Because Scotty's was good at one time, but they have let things go. When you do not have completion why keep getting better? The locals have become used to the low standards set by the owner, it's a shame. If you are going to be like this, then shut the doors before you embarrass yourself and the staff anymore. read more

Unlike some other reviewers, the decor is not a big thing for us. The place is bright and blessedly conversation friendly. My wife had the fried shrimp that she thought were excellent. The batter is very crispy and light, tempura-like with virtually no grease on the plate. I had the perch, also lightly breaded, and delicious. The service was outstanding and friendly. We were promptly served, drinks came right away. Our entrees came in less than 10 minutes, probably in part because they were lightly battered and fried. My wife ordered the small hot fudge sundae for dessert. Small was like a scoop and a half of ice cream with lots of sauce. Excellent, particularly at a $2.50 price.
