This place has been around for awhile as a local neighborhood bar. The place is pretty clean inside and has a decent amount of tables. I've been here a few times but never really had a chance to try their prime rib special until now. The prime was flavorful and the loaded mashed potato's were tasty. It's definitely a great value for $17 when they do have it (runs out fast). They also have happy hour that goes to 7pm, which is pretty nice.

Amazing prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays. Get there early! Kay and Curtis are wonderful. Comfortable and consistently great food.

Nice local bar. After two visits everyone knew our names. Food is above bar food and prices are affordable.

The buns are fresh and ever so slightly sweet. Wonderful. The steak salad is an amazing lighter meal, seeded with slow roasted garlic and a gorganzola cream dressing. I once had the new York strip. There's also a large patio. This is a welcome and safe space. [Drinks] Right up front, I'm going to tell you I'm a lightweight. I'm allergic to alcohol, so I don't drink often. Here's one of the things I love about The 649. They have a fantastic selection of mocktails that are created with the same creativity, flair, and intention as a "leaded" cocktail. I appreciate that I get to participate and not be stuck with a lemonade, zero alcohol beer, or wine. So, HUZZAH for creating an inviting space for a non-drinker! There *are* times when I'm willing to risk the lobster-bod, itchiness, and stuffy nose and there are plenty of cocktails from which to choose! [Food] There's a nice selection of sharable plates and mains. I've personally tried the flatbread pizza, Bavarian pretzel, Cubano, and Brisket Press, all of which were delish. [Service] The service has always been fabulous. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. [Activities] There are a few TVs around the bar with sports. It was a great place to catch some of the World Cup games. Additionally, there are several games that you can borrow and play, which is a lot of fun. We came on a Thursday morning right at opening (9am) and were able to snag a table inside for our group. The space is small inside but they do have a few outside tables too which is nice to enjoy in the summer time. Parking is standard street parking right on Broadway. We started out with Turkish coffees and Iraqi Tea. The presentation was beautiful and the complex flavors were so nice to wake our taste buds. We ordered the Beef Mix, Lamb and Eggs, Pastry #2 (hot dog, mushroom, cheese), baclava, and their special halawa to try. They were cooking right by the counter so the whole space filled with delicious aromas while we were waiting for our food. We all had full bellies between 3 adults and 2 kids and took home leftovers! You MUST get the Beef Mix! I don't even know how to describe how delicious this dish is to give it justice but it was definitely the group favorite. It came with salad and yummy boat shaped bread to scoop up all the flavorful goodness. Their house hot sauce took it to the next level. The baklava was the perfect amount of sweetness with the coffee and tea. It was our first time trying a halawa and we all loved the dense texture with a sweet taste. Absolutely lunch was a wonderful change of culinary pace that I am excited to try again soon. This restaurant was recommended to me by some friends I hold as having excellent taste. All they mentioned was French inspired or French fusion, and knowing I haven't been to many of those my wife and I went here without looking at the menu. Looking at the menu, I'll tell you that it was not what I expected so much so that I forgot to take pictures of it because I spent all my time trying to decide what I wanted. I think not looking anything up was probably the best decision I could've made because that led to us choosing some dishes that I think we normally wouldn't have ordered. We tried to steam cheeseburgers, the steak, tartar, garlic, fries, foie gras dumplings, and gnocchi. Also got some specialty drinks. Service was amazing, if I was really nice, did not take too much time at all to get food, and the food itself was special. (Specials is the best word I can use to describe discovering new flavors, my age ) Two thumbs up, will be coming back again, and excited to try everything on the menu! Also, note that they do have some parking in the front of the building so if you're going for lunch, try there first instead of worrying about parking blocks away.
