We had a group of 14 people for a dinner/bridal shower. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the manager went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. People of Decatur and Kirkwood, I do not understand why Scout isn't packed all the time. The food is delicious. I love the artichoke dip, beer battered cauliflower and any of the brunch items. The service is consistently great. They brought kids' cups of water within 30 seconds of being seated, without being asked. Parents, you know that's amazing. The cocktails are tasty. I love the Workhorse (lemon/ginger beer/vodka) and the Heater (like a spicy margarita). And the location is awesome. Beautiful indoor and outdoor space. There's a side room with a pinball machine and a shuffle board table. There's a deck and a fire pit and bocce outside. What's not to love? Perfect for a classy meal but also perfect if you have small children and want to get out. read more

We were searching for a cool new place to go for dinner and looked at Scout's website and decided to give them a try. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a nice spacious hip feel. A lot of places are really cramped but a nice thing about Scout is that it doesn't feel like you are sitting on lap of the people beside you. I was hoping to be able to give this place a 5/5 but on this go round it just fell way short. I have owned 23 restaurants in the last 7 years so I don't take pleasure in not giving someone a great rating. We started out with several appetizers: fried cauliflower, artichoke cheese dip, smoked chicken wings and the mussels. They were all good, the only complaint was the broth with the mussels was extremely salty and I like things slightly saltier than most people. The flavor was good but my guess is someone just winged it on the recipe with the salt and messed it up. The service up to this point was decent, he could have been slightly more attentive but it wasn't bad. Once our meals came he was no where to be found. I ordered the Shrimp Creole after deciding against the scallops when I learned the cous cous had cheese. I don't do dairy. The description of the Creole didn't say anything about the grits having cream and I have I thought I was safe but it was literally like a blob of cream cheese grits in a creole soup. It was different than any creole I have ever had and I should have asked about whether it had dairy or not but didn't. When it came I and I tried a bite I immediately knew it was not going to work. I literally could not get my waiter's attention for almost 10 minutes. Everyone else was almost finished with their meals by the time I got his attention. I asked if I could just get the sauce with some rice. He asked and came back and said they don't have rice. They could do some vegetables but by this time everyone was already finished so I just said I was fine and I didn't want to order a meal and be rushed to eat it. There were 6 of us at dinner and everyone else's with the exception of my daughter enjoyed their meal. My daughter had the hanger steak and asked for it medium to medium rare. It came out well charred on the outside and completely raw in the center. She ate a little bit of it and figured she would take it home and eat the next day when she could cook it some more because by the time the waiter came around it was too late. I think it is worth giving them another try but this visit was fine for 4 of the 6 guests in my party but not stellar for 2 of the 6. read more

We went within a week of their opening, so keep that in mind. I love what they have done with the building. The renovation really opened up the space. The drink menu is clearly geared toward cocktails, which is good for my wife, who enjoyed her cocktail. Beer is a lower priority. There are only a few choices, one of which was out and had no replacement. We had the scallops and red snapper. Both were very good, especially the latter. However you will pay a premium; they were both over $25 if memory serves. Our service was a little slow, but they were obviously very busy and again they had only been open a few days. We didn't try the appetizers or desserts, but the horseradish cauliflower looked good. I'm impressed. We went on a Wednesday evening around 8:00pm. Parking was easy but I'm sure it can be a pain if you're here at prime dinner time. Oakhurst is such a hidden gem on the East side of the city, but we've been bored with the food until now. What a fantastic bar menu. Eclectic mixes that burst with flavor and the unusual ingredients, as in I wouldn't think to put that in a drink, weren't overwhelming but added to the complexity. We ordered several small plates and a salad. Avocado Devil Eggs, WOW so much flavor! Fritters maybe of ricotta and kale? Can't remember but AMAZING. Caesar salad was perfect, not too strong and again very flavorful. Local veggie was purple cauliflower and cooked to perfection. We just happened to overhear the sous chef talking about a dessert special she has just finished working on. Some sort of coconut cookie and burnt butter (maybe) ice cream sandwich but unfortunately wasn't going to be for order until the next day. This sounded delicious so I asked her about it. As we were sipping our wine at the end of our meal, she appeared with said ice cream sandwich!!! Everything from the service, the superior cleanliness of the restaurant, the knowledgable staff, we WILL be back and on a regular basis. Cheers to a fantastic new restaurant!! read more

The food made us sick. The management wouldn't accept that our discomfort was caused by their food. They should have made amends in some way. That would have been the right thing to do. Besides that the wait for the food was far too long and some items were too heavily salted or undercooked. When we said the fish was undercooked it appeared that it was microwaved to cook it further. read more

Penny wise and pound foolish. We've been here a few times and each time we leave feeling underwhelmed with the execution despite what looks like a great food and beverage menu. This time, however, I left feeling cheated. First, be warned the draft pours are 12oz and not the usual 16oz, yet the prices are what you would expect for a typical pint. Next, double check your bill against the menu prices. My daughter ordered the grapefruit soda and the menu had it priced at a stout $2.50. The bill, however, did it one better by charging me $3.50. My Scofflaw beer was menu-priced at $6.50 but the bill charged me $7. Now any one of these gripes aren't major but put together they leave one with a sour taste. One final tip to the kitchen: don't serve stale, lukewarm fries. That's just lazy. We did have Mothers Day reservations here but after this latest experience we'll take our dining business elsewhere. read more

We are locals to this area who went last Friday night and were very unimpressed. Upon entry the smell of raw seafood was off putting. We were told there was a 30 minute wait despite there being multiple tables open and clean. We assume it was a server issue and headed to the bar to wait. The bar was small and it was hard to get the attention of the tender but when we did the drinks were just expensive and small. $25 for a titos and a woodford is ridiculous. 20 minutes later we were sat and had a chance to view the menu. Literally nothing looked good, but we ordered the smoked wings appetizer anyway. They tasted roasted, not really smoked and were hard to get meat off bone. The prices for the entrees were unreasonable for what was being offered but we decided to go for the scallops since we were going to pay so much. They arrived overcooked. We sent them back and a new order was quickly received. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but there was little or no seasoning on the stone grits or greens. Our server was gracious and the decor is well done but overall, we did not consider the money well spent and won't likely go back. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it's practically in my back yard. On the upside - the drinks were fabulous and our bartender was very attentive and overall service was great. The food - a big meh - we had the fried cauliflower which had no flavor and we had to add salt to. Plus, they need to keep in mind - less is more. There were so many on the plate that you could fill up on those alone and not order anything else. We didn't of course because we got tired of them before we could finish. The muscles were very fishy tasting and this was the first time I'd experienced them with smoked andouille which did nothing for the dish. Next, was the fried chicken sandwich. Ok, why would you take a perfectly fried, crispy piece of chicken and put coleslaw on it and make it soggy? The coleslaw was a disservice to the chicken. Even worse, putting a bun on top of the coleslaw and making that a soggy mess, too. My recommendation is to leave the chicken alone and pair with spicy dipping sauces because while perfectly fried it lacked flavor as well. I hosted an event here on a Tuesday night for 30 people and everything was excellent!!! The service was absolutely wonderful (Jenna was THE BEST), and the food was superb. I would highly recommend this restaurant for personal and event dining. read more

Very impressed with this place! The breaded cauliflower appetizer was amazing, and the chicken wings were juicy (large portion too). Salmon cake sandwich was fresh. Great atmosphere, excellent menu options, and the staff were all very friendly. I was really disappointed with my $27 scallop dish. It included some kind of creamy base soup with potatoes and brussel sprouts. All of the dish elements were independently COVERED in salt. So salty, in fact, that my tongue is still burning. (I ate there last night). I am not super sensitive to salt, either... that was just way overboard. In retrospect, I wish that I had sent the dish back. I hope that they be mindful of their salt over usage in the future. read more

Came here after a hard exam on a Friday. Place was lively and full of music. As a medical student, I could feel the old Scottish Rite vibes. I ordered two drinks which were absolutely fantastic. Really really good,' the first was the 'Oaxacan Gent'. Having traveled to Oaxaca this past summer, I felt like I was there and it was one of the finest drinks I've ever had. The second had Absinthe in it (something I hadn't tasted in 10 years) and oh wowow whee wah! It was incredible. A little odd at first, but one of those drinks/items that you have and slowly starts to build and grow and encompass you (in the best of ways). These two drinks were some of the best I've had ever (I travel often 20+ countries) and easily the best in Atlanta, no question. The pierogis were really really good, the herb and cream dip it came with was finger lickin lovin good. I had already eaten which was a bit lacking cause the menu had so many delicious entrees on it. The 5 hour steak definitely caught my eye. It was so perfect, the appetizers, the entrees complimented everything and each other so perfectly. Its not a large menu, and is even more perfect for being that way. The only hiccup of the night was our waitress who was borderline rude since she kept asking to take away our menus, even after repeatedly stating I wanted to keep them. I eventually had to yell at her. The menu was perfect, dammit! If I want to continue staring at this menu for the duration of my time there, who're you to stop me! lol. Great to have a restaurant like this in Oakhurst. Decor and ambience were very pleasant. Good service. For drinks, I had creature comforts draft & moobuzz Pinot noir - both were very nice. In terms of food some dishes better than others. Cauliflower app was very good, probably the highlight of the meal. chicken wings a really nice big portion. Ricotta dumplings were flavorful but appearance of the plate needed some work as everything looked mushy. Worth visiting and I have high hopes for this new restaurant read more

I am so bummed out about my experience at Scout. Everyone told me how great it was so I brought out of town guests. The host didn't greet us until we stood at the desk for a moment.The server didn't come to our table for offer 10 minutes, and didn't return with our water for another 10. No silverware was brought so my friend had to go track it down. My drink special was served in a can which I thought was super cute but turns out I paid $9 for a cucumber soda water with no alcohol. Artichoke dip was flavorless and served with an elevated version of a communion wafer. I ordered the tuna steak special-tuna was delicious but the rice cakes were hard, cold and flavorless. Almost no sauce to bind the dish together. My friends "roasted broccoli with lemon vinaigrette" was actually just a few chunks of raw broccoli-and that's it. Fries came in cold with no dipping sauce. Our server rarely made an appearance the whole time. Overall it is an overpriced version of Ladybird with a larger drink menu and sub-par food. I really wanted to like this place too! read more

My wife found a piece of plastic in her food. The server took the dish away, came back and told her it was just an onion skin (it wasn't) and put the same plate of food in front of her! After it was super cold from being carried around and who knows what they did to it. The manager was appropriately appalled but just getting that entree comped without a huge amount of apologies wasn't good enough. Greeter wasn't super friendly and we had to stand around and wait when we had a reservation and the restaurant was 75% empty. Drinks were delicious but super slow. None of us liked our food but luckily only one of us found a foreign object in it. I love the location and the look of the place but I will never return. You're a restaurant - food and service are your number one priorities. I also saw a line cook eat something in the open kitchen when we walked in without washing his hands afterwards. As a long time restaurant manager, chef, and employee of different restaurants this place is off my list forever. read more

What a disappointment. First of Hot tea shows up in a papercup! When I order a nice hot drink for my brunch in a nice elegant space, please serve in a cup, and the server took great offense by me sending it back. I ordered the brusselsprouts with scrambled eggs. Instead of scrambled eggs this solid mass of burned eggs showed up w a couple of brusselsprouts on top. It was awful. I was already intimidated by our server, I felt akward about sending the eggs back. I should have sent it back, well, like I said the servers attitude was unpleasent. Great atmosphere nestled in Oakhurst, perfect for a date night. Pretty packed for a Saturday - highly recommend to make reservations ahead of time unless you want to crash at the bar. Food was good, but not out of this world. We ordered the pbr cauliflower and catfish fingers to start off with, followed by the salmon burger and short rib stroganoff. From the items we ordered, I'd recommend the stroganoff - sauce was light, beef was tender and pasta was cooked to perfection. Drinks were alright, very light and crisp. If you wanted something more boozy, just stick with the old fashioned. read more

MEH!! Is the best I could say .. the location is great !!! The food is good!! The wait staff that we experienced was Nasty!!! Myself and guest were seated before the rest of our party arrived which I liked , but the waitress did not come over to ask if we wanted drinks until I asked her which was 20 minutes. Then when I asked if they a particular wine by the glass she flipped over the menus and said " these are all of our drinks!!" If I wasn't waiting on others I would have walked out!! Then we had an additional guest when we asked her for another chair she said she would see what she could find !!!! She softened up as the night progressed and became a bit more jovial maybe she was just overwhelmed in the weeds when we arrived ... but it really did turn me off.. I had the Rib Eye sandwich which was shaved like roast beef .. not what I expected in a steak sandwich ... like I said, the location and venue is great !! But there are other places in the area I would rather frequent. read more

Tried three times now and just not impressed. There's an attitude that I can't out my finger on--delays when there is little traffic, no acknowledgement of presence, lack of engagement. BUT, the beef jerky was excellent. Service, despite the fact hardly no one was there on a Sunday night, was not great, even though the owner/manager must have come over about 4 times. It was overkill and awkward. I know there have been a lot of comments on the Facebook page and some like me have submitted comments directly to the restaurant. I hope they take some of the advice (and ignore the snarky stuff). If not, I don't think it will make it and how sad---the setting is beautiful. Decorated beautifully as well. read more

I so badly wanted this to be a great experience but alas it did not deliver. Although the restaurant was relatively quiet service was spotty. Of the entrees one dish was solidly good (but not impressive) and the other lacking. At this price point I just expect so much more especially in the Atlanta mid/high end market. Thankfully for Scout it is not in Decatur square competing with the crowd and I do hope they survive although it's doubtful I will return. read more

I would go back for a beer at the bar and maybe an app but wouldn't stay for dinner. Too much money for the food and too many better options in Atlanta. Best breakfast fried egg sandwich I've ever had. The bread was what really made it, so buttery and crispy. The chicken and waffle that my fiancé got was also arguably the best he's ever had. Ate at Scout tonight for the first time. My husband had shrimp creole which he normally loves, said it had no spice to it at all. I had the chicken parm sandwich which was a huge portion but taste wasn't great. The side that came with my sandwich was farro with olives and since I don't care for olives I ordered the grits as my side. The waitress seemed offended that I would ask to change sides (maybe I read her wrong), otherwise service was very good. Atmosphere too loud for us and all seats are very hard wooden seats. The food is awesome and they add new items to the menu frequently. The outdoor deck, nice décor / ambiance, cool bar, fun games, great host, and nice servers make Scout a regular stop for us. You have to try the shrimp dishes and Sunday Brunch! read more
