It has been many years since I have been to this store. After I walked in the girl immediately greeted me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I told her I was looking for a single birthday treat for my girls 9th birthday but she had kidney disease so I didn't want to get her a big treat. The girl showed me all the goodies in the counter section where they have so many doggie goodies to choose from. For my girl I chose a cute frosting coved bone treat that said Happy Birthday on it. Oh my, it looked so yummy it even made my mouth water. lol. This store is very clean and has everything you could possible need for your furry kids from dog food, treats, clothing, collars and leashes,and even doggy strollers. I came across this place by accident and decided to stop in. A bunch of brands of pet food I had never heard of, but the ingredients were all natural. I'm all about supporting small business so I bought some wet and dry cat food to try out. I have NEVER seen my cat enjoy it as much as he did! I normally cook for my pets and they always love it. But the stuff I bought here was awesome! A perfect balance of exactly what my furry children need. The staff was awesome, the place was clean, and the layout of the store was comfortable and appealing. It was very easy to find what I needed. They are above-average with customer service, and is a Veteran-Friendly business with a Veterans / Military Discount and accommodating to we disabled Veterans for our Special-Needs due to our military service connected disabled disabilities, especially in their adhering to the ADA laws about allowing us to bring our Service Dog into the place. Their product and customer service is usually above-average. Although the place can be "cluttered" (isn't yours when there are dogs around?) it is usually clean. With the Holidays coming up, we hope they bring back Santa for then Santa talks with the dogs about what the dog wants for Xmas, and then you get theirs and your pictures of Santa with the dogs (and you). It's a fun place for all. Remember, you must have your dog(s) harnessed and under your control at all times for the safety of your dog(s), other dogs, you, and other people. Don't bring sick dogs. Don't let the male dogs mark up the inside of the business. Do take your dog(s) for a bathroom walk before you enter the store (Bring your plastic bags). NO petting a Service Dog as the Service Dog is working for the safety of its owner and itself. Your touching a Service Dog could result in harm to it and or its owners as it is distracted by you from doing its job. Civil rights protections against discrimination and harassment are not legal loopholes or shortcuts for members of the public to avoid pet fees, bring a fur-baby to non-pet-friendly locations or circumvent local breed/species restrictions. We stopped in Scraps today to look for a good chewing bone for our new family member, Autumn, who's a 1.5 y/o dachshund mix. We have had her for exactly one week today and she's been quite the handful. Fortunately she has not been shredding furniture, but she has been chewing up just about every toy given to her. After breakfast nearby we ventured into this shop to look around. I love the idea of supporting our local businesses, plus this store is much closer to our home than PetSmart. Their prices looked pretty fair and they seem to have a nice supply of all kinds of products for dogs, cats, birds, etc. I wish we would have come here first when picking out her crate. We probably could have saved a few bucks. The gentleman working the front was VERY friendly and easy to talk to. He answered our questions and never made us feel like a bother, even in between helping other patrons. He had a friendly store associate assist us in choosing a bone for her and we went with a 6 pack of pretty thick bones for about $16. We will see how long they last her, and we'll be back for more if she loves them. PS - she's LOVING it right now! After paying, he welcomed us to bring our baby back next time and they have treats for her, too. We will definitely return and look forward to supporting a wonderful local business. read more

I can't say enough about Scrap's. The store is organized and clean and they have a great selection for my cat and dogs. Their prices are also surprisingly low when I compared to Chewy or Petco for food and toys. Their website has not been updated since 2016 which is unfortunate but you can get on their monthly mailing list to see sales. read more

The staff is so helpful. Our dog is elderly and eating is an issue. They spent a great time with me going over all kinds of options and giving me lots to think about. I walked out with some products I feel really good about giving my sick dog and some free samples to try of some other types of products if these don't work well. Scraps has the friendliest gals working there! I was on vacation and my doggo got car sick from all the curvy roads and i wanted to give her some can dog food versus kibble. We made it in here literally 5 mins before closing and the gals working were so nice about it as I apologized profusely for coming in right before closing. I explained my situation and they were so helpful! They picked out can food that had less sodium that will be better for my dog's upset stomach. We really liked their suggestion and expertise. Even as we were checking out, someone came in right at closing trying to get dog food as they were out and they were still very friendly and let them shop. Sometimes, that goes a long way! The service and selection here is wonderful. We only buy our dogs' food here. When we were looking to change brands of food the sales staff was very helpful and honest about the selections. If you care at all about your pets' nutrition, you will come here and inquire about what will work for them. The new location at the end of the building is much better than the old place. I didn't start going to Scraps until the past year, but I should have probably gone sooner! My girlfriend and I started out with just coming in to get some delicious treats for our 2 huskies, but recently had some issues with giardia. Huskies tend to have a sensitive stomach to begin with, but after they've been sick its hard to get them back to liking food. We came into Scraps and they were EXTREMELY helpful in finding the perfect food for what the huskies needed. They even offered free samples for us to try, which was perfect for testing out whether the dogs would like it before we decided to buy a full bag. They are a great locally owned pet store and have super friendly staff that are willing to offer suggestions and advice on all of their products. I am so happy my friend recommended this store. My 13 year old dog decided he didn't like anything I bought for him to eat. I explained this to the Scraps Staff and they directed me to their samples and went over the ingredients. I left with several and found two my dog really liked. The Staff also suggested mixing in pumpkin to ease any digestive issues my dog may have. My dog is happily eating and acting like a puppy again. Very nice group of girls working, all very sweet and helpful. I used to shop at their sister location but now I'm in south reno and I like this store, great variety of EVERYTHING pet! Fromm is the food I prefer for my new frenchie baby Gracey, puppy gold formula pink bag. She loves it. And they do a bag program which is helpful on pricey dog food. Clean, great customer service, I know they are all frenchie supporters, which I love. Got her beef liver treats, NOT MADE IN CHINA, and theses are her new potty training treats. I went into Scraps to buy a cookie for my dogs 1st birthday, and I went in and saw a woman sitting behind the counter eating and on her phone. I told her I was looking for a birthday treat for my dog, and she recommended a cupcake for her. I asked the girl what was in it, and she really couldn't tell me. She said it was "like a regular cake without the sugar" and that the icing was "maybe cream cheese." I assumed that since it was for a dog, it would be safe for her to have. I bought two cupcakes, and a couple of mini cookies. That night, I gave my dog the cupcake. She ate about half of it, then a little while later we went to sleep. She woke me up early in the morning and started having very bad diarrhea. I called the bakery in the morning, and explained to the person I talked to that I thought they should know that it was making my dog feel sick. She told me she'd "pass it on to a manager." Didn't offer my money back, didn't offer something else. Pretty much just too bad so sad. Threw away all their treats and I'll never go back there again. read more

Today I went into Scraps Dog Company for the first time today looking for a bone for my 6 month old husky/german Shepherd. The selection amount they had was incredible. However one of their associates, Michaela showed me over to their frozen bone section so I purchased the Tucker's Beef bone double pack, my puppy is in heaven. First time here...I knew the moment I walked in and saw all the cool pet supplies, from dog strollers to cat trees, that this was going to be an above average pet supply store. Less than 10 seconds in the door we were greeted and asked if we needed help locating anything. Prices are slightly higher, as they seem to specialize in healthy, all natural food for your fur babies.....the exact reason we went in. So natural, we were told by others to get the Evo cat food for our sugar gliders. For our picky dogs, they were very generous in giving us 3 samples for them to try. Nice, considering I have a closet full of food they won't eat so I hesitate buying full bags to try anymore! read more

Like I said in my review of the Mae Anne Scraps, I have been to all the Scraps in this area. This store is very cluttered and the layout is confusing. I realize that this is because it is a small store without the space available as the Mae Anne store, but it could be organized better, and maybe eliminate some inventory to create space. Having the cashier counter in front is more logical than when it was in the back, but it seems even more cluttered with stuff now, probably because it is lower and more narrow. The products are excellent, my particular food needs are always in stock, and it is closer to my work so I occasionally stop here. You can't beat the selection of permium foods. One thing that bugs me is that this store has the same owners as Mae Anne but is not as friendly, save for my favorite Border Collie-loving employee. It would be nice for this store to be more consistent in appearance, style and staff as the Mae Anne store, but it is a convenient location if you are unable to shop at Mae Anne and it does carry a large variety of good foods. Excellent place to go for high quality pet food. My English bulldog has food allergies and I was able to come here to find her the appropriate food she needed! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who are willing to answer any questions you have and strive to find the right food for your pet. They also provide samples of different foods to try before you buy so you aren't out money if your pet decides they don't like a certain food. They have plenty of treats, toys, and other goods to fulfill your pets needs. They have a case of baked cat and dog treats and have pup cakes and birthday bones to celebrate your pet's birthday!! I went to Scraps on south Virginia. The customer service is not good. Apparently, they are so overwhelmed with business that they did not want mine. I asked about special ordering a cat tree; a local craftsman makes these. This is a $200 + item. I wanted to support both a local business and the local craftsman, rather than go to a big box chain. The clerk at Scraps took my name and number and said they would call. They did not. I called back five days later. They still had my number and said they were sorry, they would call with an update if they couldn't contact the craftsman. They did not call. I called back a week later and said that I understood they might have trouble getting in touch with the craftsman, but I would appreciate them calling me and letting me know they were working on it. The clerk promised that the manager would call me in two days, Sunday. A week later, no call. If they can't get the item, they should call and let me know. If they are having a problem getting the item, they should call and let me know. There is just no excuse for no return call over three weeks. Unless, as I said, they are overwhelmed with customers that they don't have time for special orders. That's OK, but they really should say, "sorry, no special orders" instead of taking my number and promising a call. Definitely avoid this place if customer service is important to you! read more

I have always wanted to go to Scraps Dog Company on South Virginia Street because of the reviews I have read however when I went it was not a good experience. I brought up to the counter a little cover for our puppies diaper and asked the young lady how many pounds would this be for and she snapped saying it goes by inches not pounds. I said well I have my puppy in the car and I will go try them on to see the size. The two young ladies just looked at each other without saying anything which I found weird. So I completed the sale, went out and tried them on our new little puppy but it was to small so I took them back in. The girl ran up to the counter, asked if I had tried them on and I said yes but they were to small and almost gleefully she said ops we can't take them back because of sanitary reasons. I said really? She said yeah really then I thanked her and walked out...sat the new item on the trash and left. I will not come back not because of sanitary reason but because these two young girls had several opportunities to explain that once you try something on it cannot be returned. Scraps....you have lost my business, my mothers business and my sisters business. Many others places in town to buy puppy things than a place who lets you knowing hand over good money and not say there is no return. I had to put in one star because otherwise it wouldn't let me comment. read more
