I've been ordering scratch culinary for the past few months now and it's been one of the best meal prep services I've found. Since it's local, you know the food is fresh! I order the chefs choice variations. I think this is the only service I've found where you can select which foods you dislike and they make sure they don't add those ingredients to their meals. Similar to other reviews, their website was very confusing when I originally set up my order. Fortunately, it's easy to submit the request to cancel for a week, but a little difficult/confusing to change your weekly order. Ordered from them for several weeks. The first week of November they sent half the meals I ordered on Thursday delivery. The guy who dropped my meals off said he let his dispatch know and they'd contact me later that day or bring them to me the next day. I never heard from them, I sent them a message from my portal, called, messaged them on instagram. They had no issue charging me the full amount but had every issue actually providing the services I paid for. I'd been thinking about canceling for some time as their food is generally either not seasoned at all or seasoned to the point it's inedible. So this should serve as a warning to others that they don't care about delivering the services you pay for nor is the food good enough to pay for. read more

I love how convenient my days have become after subscribing from Scratch Culinary Meal Prep. They deliver food on Monday's and Wednesday's, and I never have to worry about my meals during the week. I also have been spending waaay less money because I barely go to the grocery store to shop (whenever I go to the store I tend to buy more stuff than I need... ). I also have started losing weight due to portion controls. I gave a four star because sometimes the food is a little bland for my taste, but it's okay because I just jazz it up myself with a little fish sauce, ready made fried garlic, etc. But I am overall happy with my experience with them so far! The second concern I've had with other meal prep services is quality/variety. This service I select my allergies, food preferences & also how many meals at how many calories I want. I've been dropping the ball lately by forgetting to take pictures of my meals, my bad Yelpers. I'm only on my first week of orders, but so far- so GOOD. I dabbled in a couple other meal prep places out here, however, Scratch Culinary is the best! Their meals are high-quality, healthy and very delicious! They have a few different options when ordering. I went with a mixture of Chef's Choice (400 cal) meals and the Favorites (300 cal) meals. You can also select specific ingredients you don't want to include in your meals! Their website is easy to navigate through- unlike a few other spots I've tried before in the past. And the best part: they deliver your meals on Mondays AND Wednesdays so you have guaranteed fresh meals to eat all week-long! (Let me tell you... there's nothing more sketch than eyeballing an end-of-the-week Turkey meatloaf.) Scratch has great tasting meals. They have a good variety of meals to choose from and cater to different diets like Keto and Paleo. They also have options for those wanting meals under 300/500 calories. Their prices are affordable and you have the option to pick up or have the meals delivered to your home or office. It would be nice if they delivered on Sundays/Wednesdays as opposed to Mondays/Wednesdays. Also, on certain meals they tend to over do it on certain ingredients, for example, the sesame glazed chicken comes with way too many almonds and an exaggerated amount of bell peppers. At first I thought maybe they just put too much by accident but it seems as if that's just the norm, since it happened two weeks in a row. I'll likely not be ordering that particular meal since the rest of the options I've had no issues with and come packed with flavor. read more

My wife and I just canceled our subscription to SC's bulk items, which we had for about a month. The delivery process was nice and the food arrived on time on both delivery days. Our problems came from the quality of the food delivered, and other inconsistencies with the food. Scratch Culinary positions itself as a meal prep provider, with most meal prep providers there, is usually an emphasis on health and weight loss in some cases. SC loses stars here due to the fact that they report calorie amounts that don't account for the of oils, fats, and seasonings they add to their food. This is most noticeable in their vegetable trays, you will find copious amounts of oil at the bottom of the container. In one case, my wife and I found around 1.5 ounces of oil in their vegetable medley. I had brought this up to them, and they told me they only use avocado or olive oil. This makes no difference, as they both add an extreme amount of fat. For example, they list the entire 16 oz container of vegetable medley at 178.8 kcal.. the 1.5 oz or 3 tablespoons of oil in the container if we assume its olive oil would be 450 CALORIES!!! That's more than an entire container of their vegetables alone! This alone makes me concerned at the actual calorie values of their food, as it seems they are using oil in all their products. Meats and other vegetables might not show the amount of oil, but the amount used would still need to be accounted for. Secondly, on multiple occasions there has been food that is extremely over seasoned. In one case, the cauliflower puree was so heavily seasoned with garlic that it was inedible. Not too mention, that fresh garlic also adds calories that are not accounted for. I simply can't recommend this service to anyone who wants to track their food intake which defeats the purpose of a meal prep service, it's very likely that their prepared menu meals are much higher in calories than advertised as well. Scratch Culinary needs to consider dropping all oil from their preparation by switching to non-stick sprays or they need to list the exact amount of oil in each product/meal, and resolve all issues with their inconsistent products before I would consider re-subscribing. read more

Just try out some of their different options. You have to eat anyways and you can cancel anytime you want! I've been using Scratch for years now! I'll go ahead and give them 4-stars. I get 10 meals a week, mostly paleo, mostly 500 calories. The cost is about $91 a week, or $9 per meal. Could I make it cheaper myself? Maybe. I'm a single guy so waste comes into play. Could I make the same thing which tastes better? Maybe. With time and effort. No complaints about the food itself or the fresh quality of the food. The veggies snap and the beef is tender. It's a step above anything else I've tried in terms of freshness. I use the service during the week and then I do my own thing on the weekend. I find it helps to age me plan bigger things on the weekend which is good. It's not 5 stars because of their process, but it's a unique service so they have to choose between an affordable ordering system that kinda works or a very expensive custom system which needs time and attention (and money). Small business blues. Give them a try. Remember that if you want to change anything it has to be done by 5 pm on Friday or you get the same order as last week. read more

I love ordering from Scratch Culinary meal prep during the busier months of my job when I'm not able to meal prep myself. Every meal I've had is well seasoned and delicious. I typically order the smallest size (400 calorie portion) and it's plenty of food. I love that they switch up the lunches/dinners each week so you never know what you will get and you don't get bored. I do wish they mixed up the breakfast options a bit. They have about 8-10 options that they rotate through. However, each breakfast they do offer is great and keeps me full till lunch! read more

Basically, I'm a 40yr old guy that doesn't really love to have to do meal prep or wash dishes. I'm on a keto diet and am looking at local meal delivery services providing pre-cooked meals that only need to be reheated. Adhering to keto macros is imperative. For me, that means ~70% fat, 20%protein and 10%carb. Most people are +/-5% of those. Ideally, I'd like a service to provide me with 10 meals/week so my lunch and dinners are covered. I gave Scratch Kitchen's service a try for one week. Here are my thoughts. I logged onto their site and subscribed to 10 meals/week. I can't tell you which ones I ordered, only what I recv'd, since you will get no invoice to show which meals you are expecting. When the meals arrived, there is no packing list or invoice so that you can confirm that you recv'd what you ordered. Both are easily remedied, as they clearly have your order or they wouldn't be able to fulfill it. Takes an extra 30 seconds, but in today's state of online ordering I consider this to be a necessity. Packaging of the meals was good, with them in sturdy plastic containers which are labelled and then saran wrapped together in small stacks of three containers. The invoice or packing list should be included here. I recv'd four types of meals on the keto plan (I'll assume they were the ones I ordered): Turkey Chili, Herb Roasted Chicken, Carnitas Tacos and Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Meal reviews: Turkey Chili had a very odd aftertaste. Not pleasant. I'm guessing it's either a problem with the turkey or cheese. Ate a quarter of that meal and chucked it. Chucked the other one, too, as I wasn't even going to try to eat it. Wouldn't order that meal again. Herb Roasted Chicken was OK, but bland. Nothing I can't season, though. I'd probably order it again and add some spices. The Chicken Lettuce Wraps were good. Wish there was more lettuce or larger pieces. Since lettuce is the cheapest ingredient, it would be worth adding more lettuce. I'd rather have too much lettuce at the end than too little and I eat the rest with a fork instead of my cute little wraps. My favorite was definitely the Carnitas Tacos. They were delicious. That would be on heavy rotation. I was able to use 2 - 2.5 min as a general rule for microwave heating. Meals will last a few days in the fridge. Be careful what you choose to freeze, if you're looking at eating these later in the week. Any of the lettuce wraps or anything with cabbage slaw will not freeze well. Plan to eat those first and save the chicken and cauliflower rice for later in the week. I have not tried to defrost and reheat a meal, so I can't comment on it. My thoughts on the keto menu: Pretty much, the Scratch Culinary keto menu is their Paleo menu with little changes that either don't make things closer to keto or make things less keto. The keto menu is basically not keto in any way, shape or form. Not a single meal uses the correct ratio. In fact, not a single meal has more fat than protein. This keto menu will guarantee that you never enter ketosis. On average, there is twice as much protein as there is fat. As an example, the Herb Grilled Chicken has 73g of protein and 31g of fat. That is more than my entire day's protein consumption and less than a third of my fat consumption. The ratios are so off that there is no way that it is usable for keto. Disappointing. In the end, I just can't continue my subscription while on this diet. I would definitely give their service another try once they get an actual keto menu. Until then, there are better choices for keto meal delivery. read more

I love love LOVE Scratch! Great healthy meals and they change each week which is cool. Every time I've ordered they've been really consistent with their quality. I used to use the crock pot club just because of how easy it is. But I don't want all of my food to come out of a crock pot. I recommend getting the 400 plan, the 300 is a little to small for me. This is still cheaper then eating out and you don't have to go anywhere, fight traffic etc. read more

Very basic flavors, great portions, healthy foods. The only problem I have is that the food spoils after a few days so you almost have to order twice a week. I personally wish some of the proteins had richer flavors with heavier spice profiles to make the food a bit less bland. When I look for a company that meal preps, I am looking for meals that I can sustain on, not flavorless or bland lumps of meat. Bringing in spices from different regions of the world be great! This service was recommended to me by a friend who got it for her elderly father. Her dad wasn't eating the delivered dishes, so she took them home for herself - and promptly changed the service to her name. I figured I would try... I just had major surgery so cooking, shopping and meal prep are not easily done. I also, frankly, am too lazy to do any of the above on a regular basis. Well, maybe not lazy, but my priorities and energy are elsewhere. With a fair warning from my friend that the website is confusing, I logged in to see what Scratch Culinary was about. Here's my take so far: 1. The website it a bit of a nightmare to navigate, figure out, understand and order with. They list several different menus and meal options, but I was baffled as to how to work the site. 2. I ordered five meals a week from a menu called 300. And I asked for it to be keto friendly. I know I got this right because I got those five this week. The food was SO GOOD! I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was. It was healthy AND it tasted good! 3. You can pick from a list of ingredients that you do not want... such as no onions, no squash, no nuts, etc. 4. Where they are lacking it website clarity, they are fantastic at email communication. This week I emailed them to change some things to my next weeks order... which warranted a phone call from them. 5. There's real humans running this operation! A rep called me to help me understand what I had ordered and what she recommended I order in the future based on my email. 6. The food is GOOD! 7. So they deliver pretty much anywhere. I get it to my home and my friend to her work. If you're not home, you leave a cooler with ice for them. After all that, I highly recommend you try! I would say CALL when placing your initial order online. I think someone would be helpful to walk you through the website. They could explain things such as the difference between a 300 calorie and 700 calorie dish with the same name (size?) Scratch Culinary has changed our lives. We are two working parents with two little kiddos and having to prep dinner after work and daycare pickup was getting so old. The owner is so flexible if you want to switch up the deliveries for the following week. You just have to have it in by Friday at 5pm. The delivery gal we have is great! The pricing is outstanding. Ehhhhh....I really wanted to like this meal plan because some of their food is quite tasty, but in the end the cons outweighed the pros. Pros: - Decent price for keto - Some meals are delicious - They're fresh, not frozen - They don't cheap out on the amount of meat you get Cons: - Ive received 2 meals that had gone bad - Their delivery schedule heavily fluctuates. Somedays I have to get up before 8 am to accept delivery and others, theyre not there until noon. They send you texts the day of delivery for when to expect it, but i like to plan my days ahead of time. This really lowers the convenience factor for me, even if it's just putting a cooler outside, i have to wake up early to do that just in case they deliver early that day. - You get a ton of texts and emails from them. For a set-it-and-forget-it subscription plan, i don't need that many emails and texts. They weren't always this way. - While the macros are always labeled the same, the portions of meat and veggies seem to differ each week. So, if you're on a strict diet that requires certain macros to actually be met, you may want to look around. - Some meals are not to my liking, which leaves me with a very limited variety to choose from. I am not a picky eater either and have stuck with other meal prep options for years. So, if you do anything other than the chef's choice that rotates, you'll most likely get tired of it quickly. - The meals do NOT freeze well despite what they advertise on the website. - The quality of meat is questionable sometimes. Like, the chicken is sometimes really dry (like so dry it's sharp) or like the bacon isnt consistently cut (you get like strings of bacon mixed in with crumbles) or like the beef has skin (this one was really disturbing to me when it happened). - Inconsistent seasonings - sometimes theres too much salt or not enough or sometimes its perfect. If i'm paying for a meal though, id like to not have the saltiness wildcard played. - Not customizable. For example, I wish there was a way to request double veggie on some meals and pay a little extra. Based on their FAQ, it seems like they really just do bulk meal prep where customization is out the window. This bulk philosophy can really be felt on things like any of their lettuce wrap options as they seem to just swap out the meat/sauce to change something from "tacos" to chicken lettuce wraps. read more
