When an owner and team are enthusiastic about what they do, it transcends to the customer. We walked in before noon on a Sunday and I made a joke about it being too early to drink alcohol. Rodney (co-owner) didn't skip a beat when he answered as long as it was cider. My husband and I sat at the bar and I ordered Flight A, he got the house made cherry cider. There were two house made ciders - Hopricot and Sour Cherry. They ended up being two of our favorites so much that we took some Hopricot home with us. As with most tastings, there were some that we really liked (pineapple infused and apple pie) and some that we found to be not on our favorites list. We were able to take little samples of some other ciders not on the tasting menu as well all enthusiastically presented to us by the employee (didn't catch her name), Rodney or Jennifer (co-owner/cider master!). AND we got to see the fermenting room where I learned more about cider. Really spectacular and I am excited to see the Fort Collins market grasp on to ciders as much as our beloved microbrews. I grew up in Fort Collins when there was no Scrumpy's. Visiting family one time, I found this new "cider bar" and had to check it out. Now, it's on my must-visit list every time I make a trip home! If you are a cider hound, this is the place to go! They have varieties from sweet to dry, fruity to spicy. They have some permanent standards and also a rotating variety that they make right there in house! If you have a hard time deciding, the server will happily give you suggestions, or you can try one of their cider flights! An added bonus is that they also have a selection of mead. This is amazing because there are VERY few places to buy mead by the glass - and they even have a few options! Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not mention their amazing food. They go far above and beyond your standard bar food. They clearly pay close attention to quality ingredients. Their sandwiches are gourmet quality and they even have gluten-free bread options if you need. I ordered the "Normandy" sandwich. Great combination of flavors and went great with the cider! Scrumpys used to be my all time favorite place. I will never not love the cider, the owners, and the employees who started there and have been around a long time but after last night I will not eat there again. They used to accommodate my gluten allergy in such an amazing manner but the last two times I've ordered to go they have messed up and made me sick. The first time they sent me home with a completely different sandwich then I ordered and it wasn't gluten free so who knows what customer ended up with my gluten free sandwich. I called and no joke the girl was so drunk (my bf who picked up the food had said he could tell they had been drinking) and she was apologizing and trying to find my order online, just talking in complete circles for 20 minutes so that was super tacky. Last night they sent the correct sandwich but not on gluten free bread and they forgot to give my bf the ciders. Again they had been drinking. I know it has always been a thing that the employees drink on the job there but if it's going to lose you customers you've had since you've been new, you may want to reconsider your actions and pay attention to orders ... especially allergy related ones. It's such a bummer bc I have made amazing memories and had delicious food and drinks there over the past several years. read more

I was really excited to try Scrumpy's because I'm more of a cider person and less of a beer person. My hubby and I came just for a flight of cider; we did not order any food. We came on a Monday afternoon around 5:00 pm. The lady at the bar was friendly and introduced us to the flights currently offered. We grabbed a spot at a booth and settled on the flight which included 8 in-house ciders. They had some interesting options such as a blueberry lavender infused cider. It was unique and the aromas of this cider and the other ciders were what struck me the most. But none of he ciders "wowed" me, hence the 3-star rating. There were none that I felt like grabbing a pint of, although the blueberry lavender one grew on me as I sipped it. I didn't care for the dry cider. And while I commend them for trying a raspberry habanero cider, this one wasn't for me or my husband. Too much burn in the throat for my liking. There was an apple pie cider (I forget it's exact name) that smelled just like a spiced fall treat. :-) We'll probably give this place another try although I'd probably choose a flight that included outside source ciders. read more

Scrumpy's is an amazing Old Town favorite! I have celiac and love and appreciate their extensive gluten free food & drink offerings. We've been here many times to enjoy their cider flights, happy hour, and appetizer selection. The service is quick and friendly and the restaurant is laid back. Yesterday I had the pleasure of trying their Blackberry cider and it was probably my favorite of all the ciders I've tried! We also had the baked brie crostini which was delicious and their homemade jelly was yummy as well. In fact, no - the bread's just that good! He was impressed and delighted to have the Brie and Granny Smith apple sandwich on gluten free bread. I had turkey, bacon, cream cheese and sprouts on baguette. Very homemade tasting sandwiches! The service here is seriously the nicest! We were greeted with smiles and hellos and exuberant questions about how our day has been so far. We ordered our sandwiches at the counter. They also have a huge selection of ciders and brew some on tap in house. They have several tables - pub-style. We sat at a cozy booth. The sandwiches came out quickly and as mentioned above - definitely delicious! As we were leaving we went to bring our plates to the bar. The man who helped us was so gracious, "no, thank you! I LOVE Scrumpy's! I don't drink beer, so when Scrumpy's opened, I was thrilled! Cider: 6 stars if I could. The variety makes for a good visit every time, because you can always try something new! I highly recommend both of the cider flights if it's your first time. They make their own cider in-house, and have an equally large selection of other local and domestic brands. My personal favorites are the strawberry basil and blueberry lavender. Food: Standard bar food appetizers-- what stood out was the candied bacon! Delicious. I've also had the tater wings and chips with spinach dip, and they were a bit underwhelming, but definitely not bad by any means. Just come in with the right expectations, and you won't be disappointed. The "Normandy" sandwich was actually a little disappointing. I really wanted to like it, but they're not joking around with sprouts-- that's really all I could taste. And maybe it was because we got food around 9:30pm, the bread was pretty dry. I'll stick to the apps. Atmosphere: The perfect mix of old and new-- brick walls and booths that remind me of both a church and an old pub. Friends. This is not a review. This is a love story. How do you tell people about the happiness a restaurant brought you when it was ALL OF THE HAPPINESS? How can I begin to express my feelings that this was in fact, more than a restaurant. This was where I wanted to spend MY LIFE. Forget men. If I lived in a town with a cidery, nay, with THIS cidery, there would never be a question of if I would die happy. I would die the most giddy, gleeful, charmed girl, because THIS WAS MY SPOT. Firstly, as I've already expressed, cider is my favorite. It's basically alcoholic apple juice. What's not to like. Secondly, everything on their menu looked amazing and I wanted all of it in my belly. Thirdly, everyone working there was decidedly bearded and, well, HAWT AF. I came in a few days ago with my girl friend, a beer drinker, and one of the bartenders laughed and made jokes about my obvious excitement. And when I found out the flight of cider contains all of the cider listed (not just four like most breweries and cideries), I nearly fell over. He watched in amusement, and I swooned as he poured my drinks. My friend got the lavender blueberry, but we knew I'd be drinking most of it because she would be driving back to Denver when we finished, and she's very responsible. And it was LOVELY. Just a hint of lavender, and more so in the smell. It was thick and beautiful nectar of the gods. No wait. The apple strudel was the nectar of the gods. At more than 6%, I wasn't expecting anything to be particularly sweet. But if you like sweet cider, the apple strudel thing was absolute perfection. It tastes like Apple pie, heaven, and thanksgiving. I always want this cider close at hand, to quench my thirst and hold me when I feel sorrow. Also my favorites were the pine one--a bit of a bite, but the best kind you want; the kind that leaves you breathless. I must check the menu to recall each ciders included, but if you'll just take a moment to trust, they will bring you joy. And go ahead and try them all, and get a pint of your favorite. This place is just FUN. and GOOD. My friends and I each had our own Cider Flight A, and by the time we were done... whoops, I can't even remember. But everything was DELICIOUS. My favorites were the tart cherry, wild cider berry, and some kind of raspberry jalapeno that was OUT of this world. Jennifer, the owner, was super nice and chatted with us the whole time we were sitting at the bar. Pretty cool bar/brewery just on the edge of the busy downtown area. Huge selection of beers and ciders, some are brewed just here in the back. Friendly staff and the food is pretty good too. I liked the peach "cider" with hops (forgot the name) and the Brumpy's which is a crisp hard cider. The Normandy sandwich was tasty but needed some salt IMO and also adding $3 to substitute chips for salad is a little steep for the amount of salad you get. Nice place however and we will definitely try to come back next time we're in town. read more

As a gluten free lover of all things alcoholic, I am THRILLED to have found a place with so many cider options. I got the flight of 6 and the bartender was really helpful with the order in which to enjoy and what I might love or dislike about each one. I HAD to try to lavender cider and I was not disappointed. In fact, later that day I bought a few bottles for my hotel room and enjoyed one for breakfast the next morning. I didn't eat anything, but sat at the bar for over an hour and never felt rushed. There are many board games as well as a large Jenga game in the back corner. I love the vibe of this place. It's definitely on my list of "Reasons Why I Should Move to Fort Collins". Loved this place and would 100% come back when I'm in Fort Collins again. I had their Flight A Cider tray and loved most of them. Some were...interesting but there are always going to be a few tastes that are new. Either way, they were still delicious and someone else at the table enjoyed the ones that weren't exactly for me. Chocolate Tart sample was great to save for last as a dessert. My friend had the Mead flight, which came with 3 types and was pretty yummy! The sandwiches are so good! I was skeptical at first, my friend said he never ate there before, but there sandwiches all had high scores among my group. I personally had the Churchill. The spicy mustard was on point. The sandwich sizes were big enough to fill us but not stuff u swhile drinking but definitely not too small. Bags of chips come with orders. Of course a cider place is good for them, but they were in heaven because the tots were gluten free too!! A bar dedicated to cider? What more could I ask for?! Ace Cider mentioned this place on their Facebook page just a week before my visit to Fort Collins. It was immediately added to the list of must try. We came here on a Saturday night around 9 and sat right at the bar. We all chose a flight of 6 ciders and it was such a great time. I tried 6 ciders that I had never tried before! There was so many more to try and the staff was super knowledgeable. We talked about cider for a while and we also tried some mead, described by my friend as "a really old alcohol brew that you don't see much anymore accept for Renaissance Fest"... which pretty much summed it up. Kind of a less sweet wine, more like a cider. Pretty cool. I wish we had a place like this in Houston! Also, their food looked amazing. I was sad I had already eaten dinner. I could have cried upon seeing the beauty of a cider flight. All my friends drink beer flights and I am stuck taking pictures and driving them home afterwards. This was the first time I could order a flight and try something new at a bar. This place is a celiac or wheat sensitive individuals dream!! They have 2 cider flights for 10 dollars. Perfectly priced and perfectly sized. I decided to go with flight A. I am not a big fan of the hopped ciders. The raspberry jalapeño cider made on site is probably the most fascinating drink I have had. You get this potent raspberry flavor and then walloped by an epic jalapeño kick. My favorite of the flight was the spiced apple cider by wild cider company. It was drinking thanksgiving. Awesome! I hope I can find it back home in Philadelphia. The bartenders were friendly and answered my questions regarding the other cider brewery. I had a lot of questions about wild cider company. The bartender knew a lot! Ciders, snacks, and sandwiches oh my! Cool place with a relaxing atmosphere. Order at the bar service with an array of ciders on tap and sandwiches. We had the bacon nachos and tot wings to start- both were just ok. The tot wings are a definite skip- too soggy. One of our sandwiches was messed up when delivered - wrong meat- it had turkey when the menu stated roast beef- but they fixed it right away. When we were there on Sat night, they had live music...really added to the experience. It's hard enough to find a good variety of tasty ciders in Colorado, so Scrumpy's did not disappoint us after a day trip drive from Denver. They had an assortment of delicious ciders, from the traditional dry and semi-sweet to infused flavors like apple strudel, cherries, and blueberries. Every drink tasted as advertised and we loved them. Get the flights, guaranteed you'll find one or two that you'll like! The atmosphere was fun! Very comfortable and classy.
