I had reserved two single kayaks for a Saturday AM drop-off at La Jolla Shores for $50 (after yelp check-in) for all day use. We wanted to roam free and explore the ocean without limits and without other people. It was liberating. 1. Coordinate with person of contact 2. Sign waiver on your phone 3. Pay cash 4. Kayak as long as you want and as far as you want (included: kayak, vest, paddle) 5. Return kayak to drop off location 6. Send text and leave (no need to wait) I'll be real, the kayaks are the same ones as the kayak tours you see littering La Jolla. Their life vests are better; newer and fitting. My paddle ends were curved than any I've used in the past which helped gain speed. We kayaked far out in the ocean... to the point where the Fisher man and fishing boats were located - roughly 1-1.25 miles from shore. We had the entire ocean to ourselves. Then came the day of the event... I called and texted Jonathan for 45 minutes multiple times. I finally got a text back from Jonathan that he wasn't going to show up and that he had the wrong date on his end. He told me he'd issue a refund, I didn't receive one so I've disputed with my credit card. My son's birthday was a bust, but we went to an arcade instead. Jon was fantastic! We coordinated with him via phone/text to rent a tandem kayak for Mission Bay (with a Groupon). We originally wanted to kayak to the seas caves, but it was a windy day so he suggested the bay. We picked the time of our reservation and he helped us pick a specific location in the Bay where he met us to drop off the kayak (he "dropped a pin" on Google maps). When we finished, we texted him again to let him know exactly where we beached the kayak. Overall, it was easy to coordinate with Jon and he was super friendly. Just a note: in this particular area, Paradise Point, we had a bit of a hard time finding each other given that there are a bunch of small, windy streets with vegetation and vacation bungalows. If you are bad with cell phones and Google maps, it might be best to take off from a less complex area! read more

We rented kayaks for my husbands birthday and we had a great day! The overall experience was amazing and we are now hooked on kayaking! It was our first time and while we were a bit nervous at first, we quickly caught on and became comfortable with it all. John was awesome! He gave us easy directions on where to meet and helped us get seated in the boats, then we were off! For the price, you can't beat it! We got to stay out the WHOLE DAY whereas other places put a time limit of an hour or two. If you've been kayaking before then you know an hour or two is not enough. We considered buying our own equipment, but John brings good gear and for the price it's worth it to pay as you go and let him store it all :) we have enough stuff in our garage ;) We highly recommend using John for any kayak and SUP rentals! We found Sdlivinit on Groupon and had the very best day! He asked where we wanted to kayak and we chose mission bay. It is really convenient that we got to chose where to go and then he brought the equipment to us! It was great, we didn't have to wait in line in a store and we got in the water quick! Awesome weekend! I just spent a weekend in SD and called SD Livinit to rent some kayaks. I spoke to Jon on the phone, and within an hour he was at our meeting place on the beach delivering the gear. Being an ex-kayak instructor in Utah, I was weary about renting a kayak from ANY rental place. Usually, they are in poor shape and sometimes even in dangerous condition (I hate a friend get stitches from a broken piece of plastic from a kayak rental in Waikiki a few years back). The kayaks from SD Livinit were in fantastic shape and Jon really took care of setting us up properly. I had never been in the water in SD, and he turned out to know the area extremely well, showing us some of his favorite routes. Absolutely loved the service! My boyfriend and I wanted to go kayaking for a long time, but everywhere in SD is so expensive. Jon was cheap, quick and great. It's personal equipment, but they're all in great shape and Jon provides everything. He doesn't charge by the hour and is one of the few places that allows you to ocean kayak without a tour guide which can be very relieving. Moreover, he is understanding as to how to run his business. Since he knew he was late in dropping off his kayaks, he provided us with free waterproof phone sleeves which were very helpful. Highly recommend rentals with this company. Best pricing for kayak rentals in the La Jolla area BY FAR. Other companies have time limits and rental slots that you have to adhere to - not this one. Jon practically delivers the kayaks into your lap and picks them up when you're done. Very accommodating with Groupons, unlike many of the other kayak tour options in La Jolla which have "blackout" dates and all sorts of stipulations. Just make sure to call in advance to make your reservation, because some days are busier than others. Tips: don't bring your phone or shoes, prepare to get completely soaked depending on conditions, and place glasses/wallets/gopros in the center compartment when pushing out and surfing in to avoid losing anything if you get dumped. TOTALLY WICKED AWESOME. JON ROCKED IT! The nicest dude from the very beginning. We were running late due to the intense lack of parking in the area, and Jon was on the other line to help us find the best place to park. He gave us directions to cross-streets that indeed had parking and met us there nbd. My two friends and I were hopeless when it came to launching our kayaks in the rough waters, so Jon ran out into the ocean and 1 by 1 launched each of our kayaks. He even came out after us to make sure we were doing okay after the rough start, and pointed us in the direction of the sea caves & sea lion coves. We were left to paddle around for however long we wanted, when we were done with the quick shoot of a text Jon was there to pick up the gear! Just got back from a wonderful day out at La Jolla cove. Dave was fantastic and brought the kayaks right to the park for us. Dave supplied us with all the needed gear. He was super conscious and was very concerned that we were completely comfortable with being out on our own and understood everything prior to hitting the water. We were able to get 2 excellent tandem kayaks for all day for the same price as the 1 hour, 1 tandem kayak group tours in the area. It was so easy to simply wheel the kayaks to the launch area and push our kayaks out to launch. We had no schedule, no interruptions since we on our own and were able to explore at our pace. My husband even used the snorkel gear Dave was kind enough to offer us. My family had an awesome time and really enjoyed getting up close and personal with all of the wildlife. First off I have never written a bad review for company, and I have also never received such a terrible experience with one either. I purchased a groupon with Sd Livinit for a kayak rental in La Jolla, Ca. I drove an hour to get out to the beach in order to use it. Upon arrival I tried to get ahold of the company for half an hour to be told they were booked and I had to schedule an appointment to use it, which wasn't that big of a deal I should've looked further into it. I proceeded to schedule an appointment on the next available day I had, which I had to request off from work in order to use the groupon before it expired. When booking the reservation, the company wouldn't accept the groupon code, so I used my debit card to pay for the booking;therefore, I had to essentially pay for the rental two times in advanced before getting to use it. I then had to leave my house at 7am and drive over an hour to get to the beach 10 minutes before my appointment (so the company wouldn't have to wait on me);however, upon arrival the company wouldn't answer my calls. I sent multiple text messages and called well over 20 times just to get someone to pick up the phone. I sat there from 8:50 until at least 9:20 trying to get ahold of someone for my rental that was supposed to be delivered at 9. Once one of the employees finally did answer she said she had to call her boss and tell him to call me, so I continued to wait another 20 minutes to never get contacted by her boss. I continued to call at least another 10-15 times for another woman to answer(apparently the owners mother), she gave me the same answer about her needing to contact her son and giving him my number, so I continued to wait until I finally received a text message, not even a phone call from this "company" saying my reservation was cancelled. By this time it was well past 10 and I had been continuously trying to get ahold of this company for over an hour, after they had taken my money twice, just to be told they weren't going to render the services paid for. It then took a couple of days to get my money back and just for the reservation I prepaid for, not for the groupon. Even though I was told by the owner he would give me a 100% refund for the entirety of the money I spent towards the kayak rental. After he payed me for the reservation alone, I kept trying to contact him for the refund to the groupon which he then said he wasn't responsible for refunding. I tried to get ahold of groupon and has been a pain to get in contact with them over this whole thing, regardless, its been 17 days since I tried to go kayaking, and I'm still out the $50 I payed towards a groupon for this company. read more
