I called this company to do insulation work. A gentleman named Joel came right out, measured the house and gave me a professional quotation. Two gentlemen came out about a week later. The installation work was superb and had to overcome a number of challenges. Afterwards Marcela in the office helped me to get a $303.00 PG&E rebate and a $450 IRS rebate. read more

Lets start with we hate having to pay PGE every month. We have a little extra money so we used it to get our home insulated. SDI was great, they arrived on time. They made a mess and they cleaned it all up. They drilled holes in every bay, both upper and lower and they patched each one.They were fast ( 3/4 day 1story) and clean. I got a good price and the outside (plants,walkways, and window) are clean. Even on hot days the walls feel cool. Our walls had nothing in them, if its was Hot outside our walls would be warn not Now!. Thank you SDI for help us keep more of our money. Also thanks to PGE for the rebate too. We Highly recommend SDI. NOTE: If you are using any company to inject insulation fromt he outside of the house into each bay the stucco patch is not acceptable to paint over. The patch stand out and you will need to get a Stucco guy out before you paint. The reason i didn't ding SDI for this, they told me in advance that they would do their best to leave the house in a paint able state. We need some new insulation installed in the garage and the laundry room. Adam came out and gave me a bid. The price is competitive with spray foam and fiberglass bats. He also is very patient in answering all my questions. The scheduler was able to squeeze our spray foam job in within a couple of days which is great. The crew did a good job to cover the area and cleanup afterwards. I am very pleased and will definitely recommend them to others. read more

SDI recently blew in insulation into our attic. The whole process was totally seamless. I thought the workmen were very professional - laid down plastic tarps, moved furniture, swept up when done, kept us appraised of how long the project was taking etc. In fact, we had been told it was a 4-6 hour project but it ended up being a 2 hour project! Perfect! The only part of SDI which I found "unprofessional" was that it sounds like you're calling someone's cell phone when you call their number. Pamela, who answers the phone, is very nice and helpful, but it does seem like you're calling her personal phone. However, since the job was done on-time, on-budget, and we have already noticed a warmer house, I am still giving SDI 5 stars. read more

We remodeled our house and needed insulation. We received a few quotes and Pamela Martin from SDI provided the best quote. She spent time to detail areas where we could receive a rebate from PG&E. Others would only refer you to the PG&E website. Al in all, SDI did a GREAT job and addressed all of the openings for insulation. A friend referred SDI Insulation for improving the insulation in my townhouse and they did a pretty good job. After the initial call, an estimator came to my place with couple of days. She was thorough, answered all my questions. She sent me the estimate within few days, and the amount seemed competitive. I was able to schedule work for a day of my choice and SDI called me a day prior to confirm the date/time. On the scheduled work day, the crew was punctual, respectful of my house, quick with their work, allowed me to inspect and answered any questions that I had. I was able to pay with credit card over the phone and a receipt was emailed to me within an hour. Pamela and her team were of the upmost professionalism. My wife and I were so impressed with the entire process. We knew our house was extremely cold last winter and our PG&E bill was incredibly high, we realized we needed to do something. Until she came in and explained to us exactly what would happen, we had no idea that none of our walls in the house had insulation. She explained the whole process, she took measurements and even showed us a sample of the material. From there we got an email estimate and a paper one in the mail. The guys came in, they were very careful and very clean and did their job, which actually took less time than we thought it would. When they left, they even swept up after themselves, that was a nice touch. We are excited to see our PG&E bill this winter. read more

They returned my call for a quote to blow in insulation into the walls and ceiling (lower unit in a two unit building) which was more than some of their competitors could manage, showed up to review the job for the quote timely, sent me the very reasonably priced quote quickly, and got me scheduled in about a week. The day before I received a reminder call and was told to expect the crew between 8 & 8:30. The crew was here at 7:30, very professional, very knowledgeable, worked around a few unanticipated obstacles, answered all my questions, made a few suggestions and were so incredibly neat! SDI did some work on our house in fall of 2008. The estimator made a professional presentation and was very good about following up and the crew when they came in to do the work were on-time and fast. However, the icynene foam insulation makes a dr. seussian drippy mess - they tell you it will poke through cracks, which was actually a selling point for this old house - but still I was not expecting puffy bits of foam left dripped all over the place, or to look up and see foam stalagtites instead of the smoothish block of foam sample that andrew showed me. we also have not seen any effect on our heating bills, though the floor does not get as cold as it used to. maybe this foam is worth the extra expense in an extreme environment, but not at all dramatic difference in san francisco. So - we weren't thrilled, but we thought maybe we hadn't asked the right questions to make a better choice. What has pushed me off the fence is Andrew insisting that we insulate our exterior walls as well. He specifically asked to test the wall to see what was inside, and I showed him where we were going to be doing some work where a hole wouldn't matter, and he "tested" and announced that we could do blown-in insulation behind the lath. He called regularly to follow up on this part of the bid, which we put off because we couldn't afford it. A few weeks ago the contractor was taking down that wall and had to deal with a huge mess....since it actually had been blown full of cellulose by a previous owner. No the cellulose had not "settled" and yes the test hole had been taken from the lower 1/3 of the wall anyway. This might have been an honest mistake on SDI's part - maybe they were only looking for fiberglass insulation and weren't used to dealing with 1890s construction. However, I would think twice about the icynene and I would definitely get a second opinion about work needed to be done. read more

I used SDI on 7/9/2010. I had contacted the company earlier in the week for an estimate for wall insulation. Joe was able to come by the next day and give me an estimate. Joe was very professional and asked me to see the attic even though I told him it was insulated. Sure enough, my attic only had 3 inches of the 14 something inches you are supposed to have. Joe was very honest and told me it was much more cost effective and noticeable (heat wise) to insulate the attic and wait on the walls till we are going to paint the outside of the house. I followed Joe's advice and he squeezed me in for attic insulation later that week. The insulation team did a great job, cleaned up after themselves, and even walked through the house with me to give me insulation tips I can do myself. A few days after the insulation was installed we started having problems with some of our recessed lighting in our kitchen flickering. I called SDI and the owner answered. He had his guys come out ASAP the next day and fix the problem. (I guess a few bits of insulation went rogue and were causing problems.) Great Company! I will definitely use them again. SDI came out and provided a good estimate to complete crawlspace insulation underneath our woodfloors. One important thing the company neglected to do, was to send someone out to complete the work. They completed about 75% of the work, but simply gave up after running out of insulation. The workers did not look like they had the proper equipment for breathing in our crawlspace and gave up completing the job. About 250 SF was not insulated which is affecting the heating and cooling of my house. read more

I've used SDI several times now - a couple of times last year and once this year. The five stars are not for the company, but their employees who came out to my place to do the work. First, there is Joe S, who takes a look at the property and estimates the work. He responds to e-mails at 6am. I don't know of any other who is as responsive and as patient. Then there are the J&J brothers, Jamie and Julio, yes, they are brothers really. They came ahead of time, slogged for 8 hours without a break, except a few minutes for lunch and left the place spotless, completed vacuumed, wiped down and leaks plugged. The reason I am a fan of J&J, is that they went the extra mile. Jamie brought out insulation to cover the sides of the bare wooden walls of the area where my water heater is. When I mentioned that the water heater was due to be replaced next week, he left me additional rolls to be used before the new water heater went into place in areas that he could not reach. If that is not going the extra mile to watch out for a customer, I don't know what is. read more

This company was recommended by our roofers; we used them to put fiberglass batt insulation in the attic while the roof was being done. They were quick to come by and check the size of the house and to give us quotes. They did an excellent job--quick, professional, and friendly, and Matt was very helpful in answering questions. They also recommended an electrician to check the wiring. We are very pleased with everything. We had the walls of our home insulated it is a messy process drilling two holes every 16 inches. My wife and I covered a lot of our furniture before Hugo and his assistant arrived. They carefully covered all our floors with plastic and taped it to the walls to protect our oak floors from the plaster and dust. They filled all the holes so all we had to do was a little sanding before painting. The job took all day and they stayed to remove all the plastic and vacuum the floors. SDI did a great job. read more

I called SDI to do a fireplace insert. I had a tight time line, but Joe (fireplace expert), told me that they could get it done within my time constraints. SDI promised to email me, same day, the information needed to order the insert, but they didn't send the information, nor did they respond to my voicemail messages, nor did they respond to my email requests. In parallel, based on input from SDI, I hired an electrician and chimney cleaning service to prepare for the work. When SDI failed to follow through, I began searching for another option, which fortunately I found. Moral of the story....I wouldn't trust a company who fails to do what they say they will do. read more

My experience with SDI overall was a good one.Initially had some scheduling and bidding issues but we were able to work them out. The job accomplished what we needed in both eliminating noise and improving heat containment.Now some months latter, glad we did this insulation. Almost all work was done almost exactly as expected. It took a little longer than expected but due to the mechanics of this situation, I found that acceptable. The onsite workers were very good and flexable enought to make for the job getting done. The reason for not the best rating was regarding how the parking issue was handled. SDI expected us to provide parking .This added both to the final unplanned cost and the extra work required of myself, the lead contractor. This would also been an issue if the owner had not been so flexible on the final cost. All the other contractors involved on this job site themselves took care of the parking challenges that this job site had. Would probably use them again if they worked out the parking cost. Found Dennis to be knowledgable and forthright about my house's needs. Estimate was fair, in line with market. I hired them to blow in fiberglass insulation into the walls of my 50 year old ranch's master bedroom. Despite a small glitch with a returned phone call at the beginning of the process, my overall experience with SDI was terrific! The estimator, Ivan, called when he was running ten minutes late, which I really appreciated. His estimate for attic and crawlspace insulation came in about 400 dollars lower than the other estimate I had gotten. Adam and Hugo arrived exactly on time and were super conscientious about covering the floors with protective plastic and cleaning up at the end of the job. They worked quickly and efficiently. But what really impressed me is how they went out of their way to find the place where raccoons had been getting into the crawlspace and tearing down the old insulation. The raccoon specialist that I had called in earlier hadn't been able to find out, but Adam and Hugo kept looking until they found the places and sealed them up. They really went above and beyond! We used SDI to insulate 3 walls of a bedroom that was either 4 degrees hotter or colder than the rest of the house. Joe the guy who provided the estimate was very courteous and listened to what we need. He also tried to work with us bearing in mind that we have a small budget and the scope of work being quite small too. We got a 2nd quote from West Coast Insulation and SDI's pricing was significantly lower while using the same material. The bedroom now has the same temperature as the rest of the house. We just had a new roof put on and SDI came in before the roof was off and cleaned out our existing insulation. They were extremely clean in taking our the insulation and put up plastic sheeting to cover the entire area they were working in, which kept our house very clean, you could not even tell they were there after they left. They did a great job. They were able to connect us up to some other contractors we needed to fix some items we had and they will be doing the final stage of our insulation in about 2 weeks. read more

I had been looking around to get my crawlspace sub floor insulated for quite some time. After getting several estimates, I went with SDI. Their pricing was much better and their customer service was great. The estimator was very flexible with my schedule considering that I work 2 jobs. Since I was unable to be home and the only access to my crawl space is through inside the house, I gave the estimator the square footage of my house, took pics of the sub floor, and measured the "on centers" of the floor joists. Just with that, he gave me the estimate and they came out to do the job a couple days later. Overall, they did a great job insulating the floor, and they strapped the insulation very well so that it stays up against the floor. The crew was very nice and made sure to clean up after themselves when they were done. They even put tarps down throughout the house to keep my floors clean. Knowledge and Integrity - although they missed the first meeting to inspect our attic, they followed through in flying colors. Dan came and inspected our house and gave us an honest opinion which was basically that our attic insulation and condition was fine and that we didn't need to do the work.
