Visited for lunch -- great friendly service, tried a selection of soft tacos -- pollo, puerco (grilled pork) and Mayan pork. All delicious with terrific flavor that did not need anything other than the toppings provided (in other words, you don't need lettuce, sour cream, etc., which is available for an extra charge.) I have read some varying comments on the chips and salsa -- I thought the red salsa was very tasty though it's not like the more common chunky tomato salsa and was more a sauce, but so good! I will definitely go back and try other items -- many things sounded and looked great. A couple at an adjacent table ordered the large platter with various meats and it looked incredible and so much food, and they looked happy with their big doggy bag, too. Our favorites: Queso appetizer Fried burrito Pork taco Machete Cochinita (Mayan pork) taco Sopa Maya (chicken soup) Do NOT get the corn tortillas, they're gross. Flour's the way to go. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical the first time we pulled up to this hole in the wall Mexican joint...it is in a old converted hotel... but that was a couple of years ago and we keep coming back. My husband, my friend and I all swear by their Mayan pork tacos. Seriously they are to die for! The service is always great and you never have to wait long even when it is busy. They have some slightly above average food. The best part of it is that it is inexpensive. It is designed to be cheap food. The restaurant/surrounding area are somewhat sketchy. If you are looking for a nice date night I would recommend somewhere else. If you are looking for a quick place to grab quick food go here. If I could give a negative I would. This place has gone down. I had the worst visit ever that made it so I will never return. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a taco. I got my food and ate my taco first. The I cut into the quesadilla and took 2 bites and realized there was no chicken in there. So I waited for at least 15 minutes for my waitress to come back to check on us since she dropped the food off. By then everyone I was with was done eating. So I told her that there was no chicken in my quesadilla. First she told me that, that's what I ordered. I know what I ordered and even pointed it out on the menu. She just looked at me and said ok what do u want me to do, never offered to make me the chicken one I ordered nothing. Just took my plate and walked away. I got the bill and was still charged for the quesadilla and was charged for a chicken quesadilla at that. I went to pay for my food and asked if they could take it off my bill since the waitress took the plate away and the manager told me that I should have known there was no chicken in it when I cut through it and I should of said something right away instead of eating it, which I only had 2 bites. A friend of mine told us about this place and led the way last night to Pinellas Park to find some authentic Mexican food. It was surprising when we pulled up to what used to be a motel and inside found a quaint little restaurant with the friendliest staff I think I've ever experienced around here. We all had tacos which were perfectly authentic and only around 2-3 bucks each. I also had some Mayan style beans, and my husband had a platter that inlcuded enchiladas and quesadillas, along with tacos, all of which were delicious. Their horchata and churros are pretty great too. The pork tacos and churizo tacos are not to be missed. The people running this place know what's up: delicious Mexican food, staff that makes you feel like a long lost friend, and a cozy unassuming atmosphere, plus very reasonable prices. There's a good reason it's hard to find anything less than a five star review for Señor Taco on all of the customer review sites. Yes, it's THAT good. Simply said, Señor Taco is the place for authentic Mexican food in Pinellas County. There are just a few others that match up to it, in my opinion (notably La Cabana del Tio in Clearwater). And as much as I like the others, I know that when I dine here I'm getting classic Yucatan dishes, served up by a dear couple, Cinthia and Carlos Sosa, that are passionate about bringing the authentic flavors of their homeland to the lucky folks here in the area. And before I forget, in case you're in Largo and need your taco fix, stop by their original taco trailer, La Yucateca, located in a field at the northeast corner of Starkey and Ulmerton roads in Largo. It's open 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Saturday. But back to the Carlos' full service restaurant, I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. It's located in a humble building, but it's very clean and well-kept. There are plenty of tables in both the front room by the kitchen and the back room as well. The service is very prompt and friendly, too. Everything I've tried here as been quite good, including the full assortment of tacos, served on fresh soft corn tortillas made right on site, and topped with the standard onions, cilantro and salsa. They have a good selection of meat fillings, carne asada (steak), puerco (grilled pork); pollo (chicken); picadillo (ground beef); carnitas (fried pork), chorizo (Mexican sausage); and cochinita pibil (a great Mayan BBQ, more on that later). I've tried most of them, and my favorites are the carnitas and chorizo. They're all about $2, worth every penny, and a great value for the quality. But I'd also recommend trying the conchinita pibil, which is a classic Yucatan dish (called Mayan BBQ on the menu), which is unique and tasty in its own right. Carlos makes it using pork shoulder, covered in a paste made from the seeds of the achiote shrub. These seeds are the main ingredient in the Yucatecan spice mixture found as recado rojo, or "achiote paste." Carlos add an orange juice marinade, then wraps it all up in banana leaves and slow roasts it for many hours. The tenderizing with orange juice and the slow roasting breaks down normally tough pork until its so tender it pulls apart easily. Many taquerias in the Tampa area don't offer conchinita pibil due to it's long prep and cooking times, so getting a very well-made example around here is a treat. It's served not only on their tacos, but their tortas (sandwiches) as well. It's topped with a pickled red onion, which I don't particularly care for, but many other folks seem to like it. There are plenty of other classic dishes on the menu, along with some creations from Carlos. The carne asada fries are great, with fries topped with steak, cheese, guacamole and crema (a Mexican version of a sour cream, which I find richer, delicately sour, and just slightly thickened so it drizzles). It's the perfect topping for the combination, and you may find yourself giving up any sour cream for crema at home. Heads up: They offer both mild and hot salsa at the table, so make sure you know which one you want. Others might like it, but the hot salsa was "burn the hair off your tongue" hot for me! Prices are very good for the quality. And since you can rarely find this level of quality around here, the value is outstanding. If you're over in Tampa, it's definitely worth the drive. Their prices are also great for the amount of food and the quality.Their chorizo tacos are amazing,and their portions are so generous I always end up taking home a ton of left overs.Besides,their magnificent tacos, I love their queso fundido (real melted cheese) topped with chorizo,their horchata( rice drink) it's perfect no to sweet and you get a refill. If you go with other people you need to try the " la tablita" it supposed to be for 2 people but you can easily feed more, as an appetizer they serve the queso fundido. La tablita, has everything from chicken enchiladas, ranchero beans, yellow rice, pico, guac, steak and the most delicious season grill pork of your life, I skip the steak and only get pork . Then to finish my meal I like to get their fried ice cream,it's crunchy and caramelized on the outside and cold and creamy center, so simple, yet so delicious.In my opinion the best in Tampa bay and if you can't believe it, you need to go and try it. read more

This is a real find, especially after Taco Bus started sucking. I stopped by on a whim since I was nearby. Totally happy I did. Had to bring my wife back. we split 3 special tacos and our favorites in descending order: Chori-queso, el Tri, and the Machete. Chorizo and melted cheese? Yes Please! That was by far the fave. El Tri was good, Machete-not bad but couldn't stand up to the two others. Next I want to try the $30 sampler for 2 that looks like it's got a little of everything in there. This place might have lost some points on charging for additional chips and salsa (1st one is free) but everything else is just so good. Your favorite Mexican place sucks. It's bland, tasteless pap straight from the Sysco truck, through the microwave and placed on a plate served to you by a dead-eyed zombie. OK that may not really be the case but it will seem that way after you've tried Señor Taco. It will raise the standard by which you judge mexican food. If anything were to happen to this place I would give up on eating Mexican because it can never be this good. If you think I'm exaggerating, go there and order a couple Mayan pork tacos and an enchilada and sing praise to my glorious rightness. The service here is like a big hug. So I had wanted to eat lunch at as many sketchy ethnic restaurants as possible on this trip...and this really fit the bill. It looks like the kind of motel where hookers go to overdose. It's a pretty normal casual non-chain Mexican atmosphere one you walk in. The salsa was really flavorful and different, and the green sauce is a little spicy. Tacos are amazing, I got Mayan pork and chicken and took a bite of hub's shrimp. I'd recommend any of them. Not at all crowded or busy on Saturday lunch. Service was a little slow. read more

Wow! What an amazing tour we just had of Cozumel. The owners of Señor Taco Carlos and Cinthia showed us around their island. We had wonderful food (made by the locals), we got to shop in places most people's don't even get to see and we learned more about the history of Cozumel. If you are planning a trip to Cozumel get with Carlos' mother at Señor Taco and she can arrange a tour for you. It was the best port on our 7 day cruise. You won't be disappointed. I decided to check this place out because of the reviews. My fiancee looked startled when he was pulling into what looks like a shady motel. At that point he wanted to instead go to Red Mesa in St. Petersberg. We decided to try it anyways. When we entered there was a very nice older lady that greeted us when we arrived. Unfortunately, she was not our waitress. We ordered ahead the queso fundido without chorizo, Sangria and a Dos XX. Sorry but this sangria was too light and too sweet. We also didn't love the queso fundido (I'll stick to Casa Tinas queso fundido). Still we were enthusiastic for the entree. In the burritos section of the menu it states something like: Our burritos come with beans, guacamole , pico de gallo , sour cream and choice of meat. So i ask if instead of meat it could be refried beans in the burrito. She clearly did not have a clue so she proceeded to ask one waiter that answered that it COULD be done, then another said that he thinks it COULD NOT be done. Make up your mind! If it can't be done, no problem I can always just order something else and problem solved! In total it was three different male waiters she asked. By that point i felt crowded and like all eyes were on us. It was just a simple question jeez. That last guy she asked came over and he just stood there looking annoyed...and now so was i so i just ordered something simple (1 taco pobre) to finish and get outta there. I then overheard some of them talking in spanish ... and i know spanish. It is rude to talk about a customer especially when i can clearly hear you complaining. I was embarrased that a simple question turned into such a stupid thing. My fiancee had the meat burrito and i had a taco pobre... it was just ok. My husband and I just moved from Los Angeles and had almost given up on finding authentic mexican cuisine in the Tampa Bay Area. Thankfully we read the reviews for Senor Taco on Yelp! Looking like it is built into an old motel we would probably have never tried it. That would have been unfortunate. Now we are weekly customers. The food is awesome! Prices are great. We are vegetarians so have not tried the meat, but they have adapted many dishes for us. We are sad they are closed on Sundays because we probably would go there twice on a weekend.
