Steps and a ramp available to get to the main seating area. The ramp has a small step at the end that should be manageable for a wheelchair user. The food can be paid for on a sliding scale from $13-24. Had the Lucy sandwich with smoked trout and focaccia. Bread is made in house and the sandwich was excellent. How can you not love this place? It's staffed by a colorful cast of characters who aren't just working hard to turn out delicious sandwiches, but are also the owners of the establishment. A sliding scale of payment ($12-$18) instituted so as many people as possible can afford those delicious sandwiches, while still compensating those worker/owners properly. There's a cute little communal table where you can bump elbows with what appear to be card-carrying members of the counterculture, deciding whether or not you want to stare at your phone or commiserate angrily about the current state of the world in between bites of your delicious sandwiches. Did I mention the delicious sandwiches? They have a number of combinations I was excited to try, but all were thrown out the window because I came in on a Friday, which, if you didn't know, is one of the only three (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) days of the week that you can get The River. I'm already a sucker for exclusivity, but throw in some miso marinated pork butt, tomato jam, and wasabi aioli, and there was never a chance I wasn't headed down The River. I also ordered it MELTYYY!!! (their spelling on the menu, not mine) because some do like it hot. This is a damn good sandwich. Thoughtfully conceived, well-executed, and most importantly, on INCREDIBLE naturally leavened focaccia that is airy, and crisp, and fluffy all at the same time. This bread will make any sandwich great, so I'm gonna be back for The Wren and The Lucy at a minimum. If I had any notes, it would be to throw more pork butt on there. I like things meaty and melty. I also got a damn good cookie as well, which turned a perfect lunch into an excessive one. But I regret nothing. read more

Back in the day I was the proud manager of a Democratic Socialism page on MySpace, so of course I appreciated Sea & Soil's dynamic pricing system, which allows you to pay along a sliding spectrum for their sandwiches based on your own volition. There are plentiful vegetarian sandwiches on offer - I ordered a variety with zaatar-spiced tofu and asparagus on focaccia. It also had a heavy layer of mayonnaise and overall was a fairly satisfying sandwich, although I didn't love the asparagus. The pretzel chocolate croissant was pretty good but didn't seem especially pretzel-like to me. Sometimes you just can't beat a classic pain au chocolat from La Bicyclette. read more

Not your typical sandwich. The shop is adorable & like Brancaccios food made on premises. It's a sliding scale for sandwiches their main focus here. I went with the Lucy, smoked trout, fermented jam, greens & a small serving of ginger sesame slaw plus a small pretzel roll. Total: $20.49 but I only paid $10 for the sandwich. The people in here were extremely nice! We didn't know which type of bread to pick and they surprised us. We got the Elliot and the river and each bite felt fulfilled of freshness. The spot it's super cute but small so we didn't get to grab a table but there it's a park at the next corner where you can easily enjoy these. An absolutely incredible place, both in terms of their worker co-op mission as well as their delectable sandwiches and baked goods. It's too bad I only get to contribute one review, because I can't wax enough about how these are my favorite sandwiches I've had in all of NYC, and I say this with my chest. The focaccia used for each sandwich is something I haven't seen too many sandwich shops do, but highest props to the baker here; the bread nails the perfect amount of crunch and salt that makes every bite a mouth party. Couple perfect bread with the really creative ingredient medleys available for vegans and meat lovers alike, and you have me sold as a dedicated repeat customer. My favorites thus far are The Lucy (flawlessly tender smoked trout with pepper jam) and The Iz (curried lentils w/ tamarind sauce that pack a powerful spiced punch), yet I still have much more of the menu that I need to get to. A bit of a trek to get to past the BQE but well worth the trip. I'm ecstatic that this former farmer's market pop-up shop has now gone brick and mortar with much expanded hours, and I can't wait to see what other culinary delights are in the pipeline! read more

I haven't tried the food yet but I noticed their sign today and ventured over to explore. My pup and I were immediately greeted by someone super nice who offered a homemade dog treat! This place is incredible. A must try in the neighborhood - whether you live nearby or not. This is hands down the best sandwich I've had.
