Was attending a concert in the area so met up with a friend for dinner beforehand. I'm not a seafood fan, and the name probably should've tipped me off, but I couldn't find anything I wanted on the dinner menu so went with an appetizer and salad. The seasonal sangria was good. Server was nice albeit a bit absentee. Bar seems to have a very strong following, every seat was taken on a Thursday early evening. Wouldn't return only because I don't have the affinity for seafood. We were a party of four that came in for dinner. Ambiance was ok. Service was excellent! Food was, to be nice was pretty bad. We had calamari as an appetizer which was very chewy. The prosecco was good. The main course, not so much. Two of us had the strip steak special was ok except that the chef had to be hiding the actual cut of meat as it was in a pool of salty sauce. The same for the lamb chops. My what wife had the salmon but unfortunately it had bones in it. The manger made it right by offering my wife another choice. It was panco crusted chicken franchese covered in mozzarella cheese. None of the 4 of us had ever heard of that. Additionally it was extremely salty! A very disappointing experience. read more

Polarizing place! I've been to Spiros and the food there is consistently excellent, Sea Basin is something else entirely on the one hand the menu is varied with solid food options. For one dinner I had the Surf and Turf which was excellent, large stuffed lobster tail with a large perhaps 8oz filet mignon well seasoned and tasty. A few weeks later we returned for the $46 pp price fixed menu and while some of the apps like the baked clams and wedge salad were solid one entree in particular the rack of lamb left plenty to be desired, the meat while tender was very bland despite the appearance on the plate, the mashed potato's were awful bland and tasted like something you'd get out of the microwave and it's not a good look to charge $7 for substituting asparagus as an alternative. Also the price fixed menu is missing some dessert options that should be in there like the tasty Tres Leches albeit very overpriced at $10. All in all the ambiance and service is pretty good but the food is hit or miss and they don't seem to carry clam chowder at least the New England style very often. read more

Everything, as usual, was AMAZING. Our annual Easter tradition is to patronize Spyro's restaurants and they NEVER disappoint! The ambiance was excellent. They revamped the entire dinning room and it is beautiful. They had a full bar and they had sports on the TV. For appetizers we ordered the stuffed clams, muscles, and clam chowder. Everything was delicious. This is my family's go to spot whenever we have an event or we just want to enjoy good drinks and a good meal. We absolutely love this place. The service is always phenomenal, you guys are our second family. We love you guys!! read more

Recently came for restaurant week. Had a drink at the bar while waiting for table. We had reservations, 4 of us. Most of dining room is tables, but near the back of restaurant are a few booths. They are rough to sit in. Very straight backed and kind of tight. Not sure why they didn't get new ones when the renovated the bar/dining area. Hostess was nice and accommodated us at another table. We didn't mind waiting extra to sit elsewhere. To us the booth just is not comfortable. Prix fix menu was great. So many choices including steak, chicken. Seafood, pasta. Appetizer, meal and dessert. All the food was outstanding. Service was just ok, but kind of expected either way the popularity of restaurant week. read more

We've been back to this restaurant many times since their renovations, and love what they have done to the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant. The food is still amazing, and so is the service, but the new bar and decor is absolutely beautiful! Their other restaurant Spiro's was the more upscale restaurant, but now the Sea Basin is just as awesome now. They also have a great happy hour here, and the bartenders really know how to make perfect drinks! We were really happy with everything we had on the bar menu, except for the wings, but that could have been an off night for that. In the past, they were great. We will definitely be back here again and really love the fact that they are right down the road from us. 25 A where they are located is a very busy area, but the Sea Basin has plenty of parking so that is never a problem. If you haven't been to this place, or haven't been back since the renovations, you have to go. You won't be disappointed :-) read more

Randomly stumbled upon this place as we were looking for a seafood place to eat at during our trip to LI. Everything we ordered was not only fresh, but extremely flavorful. The portions of the happy hour appetizers were huge. The mussels in the garlic butter sauce and shrimp scampi are two of my most memorable dishes and would go back for just that. Though the other food looked and tasted just as delicious. Our waitress was extra friendly - just wished she warned us at how big the portions were. The only reason I took one star away was because fried calamari we ordered were slightly chewy for my liking but my friend enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to trying the lobster next time . Three of us went here for our Christmas Eve dinner. We haven't been here for a while because of our past experience, but we thought we'd give it another shot. Big mistake. We started off with the stuffed mushrooms with crab meat and mozzarella cheese on top. The mushrooms were barely cooked. Strike 1. For my entrée, I chose the surf and turf ($85) which was a tiny stuffed lobster tail, and a 6 ounce fillet mignon which I ordered medium rare and it came out, medium well. I sent it back and they brought me a rare almost raw piece. I didn't bother sending it back AGAIN. I just didn't eat it. I took it home. At $85 I was not about to throw it away. The Lobster tail was tiny, (maybe 3 bites) but tasty. My husband and mother both got the duck entrée ($58) which they described was overcooked, dry and chewy. Strike 2 & 3 For dessert, I passed, but my husband and mother both got the Tres Leches cake and Cappuccino's which they said was delicious. So after the bill came, which was over $300, the only thing that was truly enjoyed was the dessert. Pretty expensive meal for cake and coffee. We will not be returning. read more

We came here for lunch during a visit with my MIL. She was given rave reviews of this place by some friends. Being that we were in Long Island, I figured that the seafood would be amazing and I was looking forward to enjoying a great meal. We were led to our table upon arrival. The host, managers and servers were very nice. The service was OK but there definitely were times we felt we were waiting to get the bill or for our food. We were there around 4-5 and once 5P hit, the patronage significantly increased. When we first sat, we were given house garlic bread for the table. I was excited but the bread was really hard with almost no garlic butter on it so it was super dry. It was kind of disappointing. I would have rathered plain warm bread with soft butter. We didn't come for the bread so I I went on to peruse the menu. I opted for a skinny paloma which was really good and I love that they coat the rim with tajin. Great touch. I had my heart set on some clam chowder and I ordered that but they don't specify what kind it is and I was brought Manhattan clam chowder, which I don't like much. I was able to swap it out for their lobster bisque which was ok but a little bland and way too thick. For our entrées, I got my kiddo the fried shrimp which came with streak fries. She wasn't feeling anything on the kiddie menu so I just took a stab in the dark and ordered that. The shrimp are big and it's a good portion size but I'm not sure if it's worth the price tag. Hubby had chicken parm which came with a side of linguine and sauce. It was good and he was in heaven with one of his favorite dishes. My MIL had the seafood platter and liked it. I had the stuffed lobster tail and did not like it at all. The dish came with huge asparagus spears which were well cooked. There were also two clam shells with baby scallops in them. They were soooo over cooked. It was like chewing on gum drops. The lobster tail was also very overdone. The stuffing tasted overly sweet and was just weird. It was more breading than crab and very disappointing. I think this dish was $38 and IMO, not worth it. My MIL commented that City Island restaurants would have costed more and not tasted as good and I had to disagree. The seafood was over cooked, bland and cost way too much for the subpar preparation. If this seafood was fresh, the kitchen staff ruined good product. If you're used to seafood being prepared like this, you may enjoy it but if you've ever had top tier seafood, you'll know this just isn't it. I'm sure their fish is probably good but the big money items, like lobster, should be 100% perfection for the prices they charge. As I said, everyone else enjoyed their food. The service was ok but definitely could have been better. There seemed to be some disconnect in where dishes were supposed to go but the staff was very nice. After our meal, my daughter got a nice big cup of chocolate ice-cream with plenty of huge maraschino cherries. We ordered some hard seltzers with tequila sidecars, and my tip would be to ask for orange slices with tajin as opposed to limes with salt. Thank me later. read more

We were given menus and bread as soon as we sat down. We were there yesterday & there was only 1 waitress handling 15 tables. We waited 20 minutes to get our order placed. Then waited 1// hour for the food. (We had bread given to us.). Definitely not what it used to be. The fish is still well prepared but you get a lot less food for higher prices. Very cheap with the sides. I was never charged extra for substituting for rice, which doesn't agree with my stomach. The last time I dined there, the dinner came with rice and vegetables. I asked to substitute spinach for the rice. They not only gave a very small portion of spinach but they also eliminated the vegetables that came with the entree. The waitress said you can't substitute for only one item. The also charged an extra $8 for the substitution! The bill was $175 for the meal, a beer, 2 glasses of wine and one dessert. Definitely not worth it. Won't be coming back. Its a shame since we used to look forward to dinner here in the past. read more

Went to Sea Basin, with reservations, Saturday evening. The 4 of us were sat at a small table by the bathroom door. I asked to sit somewhere else. They had tables, we were told they are reserved. There was a table set up, but was waiting for another reservation, I was told I can't have that table. When I told the Mgr that we were all walking out, she said fine "walk out". Do yourselves a favor and go someplace else. They got too big for themselves. We went to Pompei, in the Kohl's shopping center and had a wonderful dinner. Came here after going to spiros and finding out they couldn't serve alcohol for a few weeks. Luckily they brought some of their menu to their sister restaurant. I've been here several times before and always felt it was a notch or two below spiros. We only tried two things so I personally give it a 3.5 based on both past and current experiences, but the scallops and soup were amazing! If we go back and try more I'll update my review. Staff is always personable at both restaurants. They do need to update the interior with falling off wallpaper and old looking/smelling carpet. read more

I have going to Sea Basin restaurant since 1986. The service is always great and the staff polite and friendly. After reading some of the reviews, I was compelled to add my own review. The food is great, and the prices are very fair. It's rare but if by chance there is a problem with your order, they quickly take care of it and make it right. I have paid $14 elsewhere for a drink I can get for $8 at Sea Basin. I feel I get value for my money at Sea Basin, so I dine there about three times a week. They also have a bunch of screens with games playing so you don't have to miss a thing! Thanks! read more

Nicely updated inside. Old school classic menu that's significantly better than you think it will be, especially delicate touch on seafood. Please don't confuse Sea Basin with fine dining, it's not supposed to be. Food and Service, all good. Now the details. Saturday, me and my honey out for nice dinner. Arrived at 5:50 for a 6 pm reservation. Check in with the hostesses and proceeded to wait until 6:20 for our table. OK, its Saturday night and its busy. People were not rushing to leave like they had a Broadway show to catch. Bread basket and water arrived before the waitress. No butter for the plain bread but was made up for with the garlic bread in the same basket. Our waitress, very polite and efficient(Unfortunately forgot her name) took our drink order. Wife had a mojito and I had my diet coke which arrived in quick time. Without checking with each other, we ended up ordering the Fired Calamari appetizer and Stuffed Flounder. Fried Calamari, arrived hot and crispy. Perfect. Delicious...Definately would be on a repeat order. On to the Stuffed Flounder with crab meat. Again, Perfect, Delicious. The accompanying steamed broccoli and rice a definite compliment. Plenty of crab meat to a very succulent fish. So at this point your asking why the 4 stars when I wrote a 5 star review. Well, the mrs, went to order a 2nd mojito and the waitress came back and said they ran out of mint. What! no more mint. In my mind with a supermarket about 1/2 mile away, you run out and get some mint instead of disappointing a customer. Just my thinking....Otherwise, we will go back. While the food is incredible and the waitstaff (servers and busers) are kind and cheerful, the front of the house manager is incredibly rude. I went there on a first date with someone who happened to have a handicap. The manager made it sound like it was their fault, that they should have announced their handicap. She made me and my date extremely uncomfortable and it is for that reason I will not return. If she is fired then I may reconsider. read more
