I am writing this review for their event services, only. I came here this past weekend for a baby shower brunch for my girlfriend who's going to be a first time mom very soon! It was about an hour drive from the Bronx and traffic was clear the entire way. The whole restaurant was closed for the event which was nice because it was pretty small so having the place to ourselves made it much more comfortable. They have street parking and a parking lot with plenty of spots. When we walked in, it felt very cozy. They have a pretty decent sized bar and had our brunch cocktails located at a section of the bar so everyone could help themselves. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. All of the guest filled up their very modest dining area but there was plenty of space for all of us. They offered a nice buffet of food that included warm bread with whipped butter, salad, pasta, chicken, salmon and a mini carving station of beef and ham. Everything tasted really good. They ran out of the beef by the time I got to the carving station, so the gentleman brought a plate to the table with a few slices of beef for me. The salmon was amazing, served with a creamy dill sauce. I had my toddler in tow and she was a bit cranky so the staff was very helpful when asking if I needed anything for her, like a separate dish or if I needed anything brought to the table. I definitely felt welcomed and if I lived in the area, this place would be a top contender for a baby or bridal shower, birthday party or any event with a modest guest list. Neighborhood bistro that under different names, has been around for decades. Restaurant is split into two sections. Bar with a few high-tops and tables, and a separate area divided by sliding doors that is for reservations only. Made a reservation for myself and friends. They have a prix fix menu all week which I would like to try but we all ordered off the menu. Had the soup of the day which was New England Clam Chowder. It was hot, tasty with lots of clams albeit chewy over-cooked clams. I ordered the grouper special which was $26. The grouper was flaky and cooked well but lacked any seasoning whatsoever. I never salt my food but did in this case, also ordering lemon to enhance its' flavor. It sat atop spinach and "lobster" risotto which was just risotto as I didn't receive any lobster. Overpriced for what I received. A/c needs to be fixed as the temp went from extremely cold to extremely hot. Service was ok. Nothing spectacular. Two unisex bathrooms were clean. Will definitely dine here again as the atmosphere is pleasant and other items on the menu looked good. I have high hopes my next meal will be 4 Star. read more

I think it is important to support local restaurants during such challenging times, but I made a mistake by supporting this one. This review will address (in order) the bad, the good, and the ugly. First, the bad. I spoke with the owner about making a reservation for a large party for an important family event. The owner went through the menu and explained that the price included an appetizer and entree. The owner then suggested that I can bring in a sheet cake for dessert or he would put out a small selection of assorted pastries. I opted for the plate of assorted pastries for the table. There was an assumption that he would be providing it since he was the one that suggested it. Maybe I am wrong, but I called back a week later to finalize the menu and was assured that everything was set. Well, after dinner, the waitress knew nothing about it, and she informed me that only the ladies at the table would get a cannoli (I learned after that it was ladies' night). She then said that she had to check with the owner. The whole conversation was embarrassing and unnecessary. The owner could have rectified everything by speaking with me, but he chose not to. Next, let's talk about the good. The food was good. Our party selected the prix fixe menu which includes an appetizer and an entree for $22.95, which I think is an excellent value for the money. The portion size was just right, and everything was fresh. Our party did not have any complaints about the quality of the food. To follow up on the dessert fiasco, the owner did provide everyone with two small assorted pastries. However, I was never informed of his decision. I spoke with the server after dinner and was not informed if we were getting dessert or not. She never returned. My family and friends were getting ready to leave when suddenly the server came out with a plate of two pastries for each guest. The lack of communication borders on weird. Even though dessert came, we already had in our minds that we were leaving. And now, the ugly. The service was among the WORST I have ever experienced at a restaurant. It was equally frustrating for my family and friends. Most of us were left without drinks, food, dressing for salads, napkins, place settings, and so on. I've worked in restaurants as a waiter for many years, so I understand and GREATLY appreciate the demanding and difficult job that they do. However, our server had two assistants and there were only a few other tables in the entire restaurant. It seemed like she was purposely avoiding eye contact with us because she would have to address something that she forgot, did not do, or messed up. There was NO accountability on her part. Some of us sat down and waited 45 minutes for a glass of wine, which arrived only after asking two or three times. Other times, we simply gave up because we knew the wait was not going to be worth it. A guest should never have to get up from the table, which a few of us did several times, to find the server in a small room that has only 6 or 7 tables. I can totally sympathize with a server that is overwhelmed, new, or frustrated, but this was not the case. Our server appeared apathetic to our requests, even though as a group, we were not demanding nor difficult as customers. In my opinion, service is more important than the quality of the food. The service, for the money spent, was unacceptable. The owner did not wish to speak with me about dessert, even though he was there and had an amazing opportunity to make everything right with just a few kind words. Based on the service I experienced, I would not recommend this restaurant for a large party because the staff is unable to handle basic requests, like bringing a glass of wine to a guest in under 45 minutes, having silverware for guests to eat with, or make their guests feel welcomed inside of their restaurant. I really want to give this place more stars but nothing really wow-ed me. To start we (me & my parents) had the Lemon & Herb Mussels and the New Orleans Style Oysters. Both were good, but I've definitely had better mussels and oysters elsewhere. For my entrée, I had the Parmesan Crusted Swordfish which was tasty, but not amazing. My mom had the Special of the Day: Sea Bass with Avocado & Black Bean/Pepper Jack Ravioli. The ravioli was the star of her dish... which is sad because it's a seafood restaurant? My dad's dish, the Pan Seared Hawaiian Sunfish was probably my favorite, but again, the best part was not the fish itself, but the mango salad that was on top of it. Dessert was straight up disappointing: Roasted Strawberry Creme Brulee tasted more like flan and was half cold and half warm, which makes me think it was frozen and then not thoroughly reheated. Decor and atmosphere are pretty and fitting for a nice seafood restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I may or may not come back to try their prix fixe menu. Sea Levels Restaurant was our dinner recommendation while visiting Brightwaters on Long Island. The restaurant has two dinning rooms - allowing diners to enjoy two different atmospheres - a bar room and a fine dinning room - both accommodating to your personal mood and attire. I had the Swordfish with creamy basil risotto and spinach. The capers and tomato sauce completed every element on this dish. My partner had the hamburger. He said it was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Finishing our dinner, we had the warm Chocolate Cake with ice cream, and per Chef Monty's suggestion, the Kahlua Cream Brulee. We had a Baby Shower here last Sunday for a first time Mom. There was a mix-up with the time, 4 of us went to see the restaurant initially and we went with the 1pm to 5pm time slot based on the owner/chef's recommendation that most people do that time slot. When we arrived to decorate at 12pm the main hostess was angry and said the Shower was supposed to start at 12pm. From that point on she made us feel horrible and was rude and would not answer what time we could stay to due to the misunderstanding on their part. I tried twice to get an answer from her and the owner/chef never came out to tell us and it really put a damper on things and effect the festivities. We had hired a cake cart which we had to call to come early making her rush and we started putting the presents in cars and taking down decorations early because the restaurant would not give us an answer as to if we could stay until 5pm as we put on the invitations. The main hostess was miserable to all of us, including the pregnant guest of honor. We paid $32 pp plus an open bar tab in addition to gratuity but it's a shame that the main hostess and owner/chef do not realize how they could have handled this better, they forget they are in the hospitality business. On the positive side the food was excellent and the cake they got from a bakery was wonderfully decorated and tasted delicious. I would never return or recommend Sea Levels though based on the treatment we received from the main hostess and owner/chef who would not speak with us, it was embarrassing to us for our guests and created unnecessary stress on a special celebration. read more

Unbelievable that it took 6 years since moving to Brightwaters to finally make it here. Now that we have, we'll be back. It feels like a neighborhood restaurant, which is ok by me. Perhaps the decor is not as flashy as the new places in downtown Bay Shore. Maybe the menu is a little safe, without too many surprises. But you know what? The kitchen puts out some really good food at a reasonable price. And that's exactly what I want from a neighborhood restaurant. My wife and I ordered from the Prix Fixe menu, which the waitress gave us when she realized that the hostess hadn't. The baked stuff clam appetizer was really good...not too heavy and full of flavor. The mussels were great as well. The shrimp and strip steak entree with green beans and garlic mashed was very good, cooked right and seasoned nicely, and I was a little surprised with the quality of the presentation. The seasonal creme brûlée for dessert was just ok...the custard wasn't quite as smooth as we like. I will definitely go back and am looking forward to sitting in the bar area next time to sample the burgers I hear so much about. read more

What a great find! Ladies Night is on Wednesdays which means $15 house bottles of wine. $4 off $22.95 pre fix and a sweet plate at the end of the meal. Looking for a place to eat in an area I haven't been to in many many years. I ordered the baked clams for my appetizer, they were absolutely delicious! For dinner I ordered the bouillabaisse & it sure did not disappoint. It was loaded with with clams, shrimp, mussels & fish in a tomato fennel broth. The broth was luscious! The decor was gorgeous! I'll start with the bartender. My friend and I usually go to happy hour somewhere and we like to get out early (like 4 pm). This place opens at 4 PM and we showed up at 4:01. Instead of greeting us she said "we open at 4 and it's it's 4:01. I'm not set up yet". So we told her we like getting out early for happy hour to which she replied "we don't have happy hour" in a kind of nasty tone. Just so you understand we aren't cheap. between the two of us, we had a couple of drinks each and a couple of apps, and spent 134$. For the rest of the time that we were there, she was very friendly to all the people that showed up after us (who appeared to be regulars). She was sarcastic and nasty to us for the rest of the time that we were there. It's a literally a few blocks away from my house and I'd like to be able to go more frequently but after this, I think if I ever go back, I will sit at a table and not at the bar. She's just not a nice person and not the kind of person I'd want at the front of the house if I owned the place. Sea Levels is not dirty at at all, in fact it is one of the cleanest restaurants I have eaten in. Service was great, and food was even better. Last time we were there I ordered the filet mignon and it was out of this world. For an appetizer we had the Tuna Tartar which was great. The home-made cheese cake was a perfect end to our meal. My wife and I have eaten at Sea levels around 5 times now with different family members, couples, and co-workers. Everybody has not stopped talking about this place. Great experience. We live nearby but a Restaurant.com 25/50 coupon got us in there finally. Our server was terrific! Regina was very attentive, professional and was also very helpful with my wife's celiac (gluten) requirements. She suggested adjustments to the dishes and they were terrific. Prices are a tad bit higher than the norm in the area for seafood but not a shock. The quality of the dishes made up for it. No run of the mill fish dishes. Nice touches and layers of flavors made the meal. Wine prices are actually a little lower than the norm (Santa Margarita was on $44 not $50+ we have seen other places) We had oysters to start. Parmesan broiled and margarita style with tequila and triple sec. They were awesome. Our fish dishes were salmon with lobster risotto and macadamia crusted sea bass with lobster risotto also. Tasty burgers! As we walked into the bar (has some seating), we were greeted by the hostess that seated us in the dining room next to the bar (separated by pocket doors). Thank goodness for the doors as it was quite loud in the bar. It's a small but nicely decorated area. Seems to be another dining room in the next room over, but I'm not positive. Waitress was very nice and pleasant; service was good. My friend told me that their burgers were great, and I'm always up for a burger! It was tasty...seasoned well. I liked the bun (not the typical burger bun)...almost like a brioche bun? Any additional toppings are $1.00 (including cheese). You can pick from a side of fries or salad to go with the burger ($8.00). I was surprised to find that lettuce and tomato didn't come with the burger. And the Kahlua Creme Brulee was yummy! Definitely give it a try. Only negatives were that it was cold...felt like cold air was blowing instead of heat. And the huge arm chairs were too low profile for the height of the table. So I kinda felt like Alice in Wonderland sitting at the table. Also, when the small dining room is filled, it is quite noisy. But all in all, a good burger. Yes this is an incredible meal, the Pork roulade, shrimp, and pillows of mashed potatoes. Wow. I've been here and had multiple wonderful experiences for large parties, the best party food ever, but the absolute ideal part of this dining experience is the customization and attention to detail. I would like to start by saying the service was good, waitress did a fine job, my issues were kitchen related. I will not be going back, this I know. I had baked clams, they were chopped, too much celery, decent taste though. Next was the scallops and braised short rib, first scallop seemed a little under cooked, the other two were fine, just a tad too salty. The short rib was fine, nothing to rave about. This all came with gnocchi, which was the worst part of the dish, they had a weird texture to them on the outside and they were very dry. My wife had mozzarella with tomatoes, asparagus, this wasn't bad. Next the seared tuna, it was decent, I have had better, but it was ok. Dessert was the best part, the creme brûlée was fair, could have been brûlée' d a bit more, and the custard was a different flavor than regular(I am thinking coffee).
