Great location for an aesthetic dinner or date night; not the best bang for your buck or the best spot if you're purely optimizing for food only. We ordered their seaweed caesar salad, albacore crudo, cauliflower, clams and mussels, and salmon succotash. Food was fine, not amazing. Our favorite dish was the clams and mussels which were cooked perfectly, and the broth was delicious. That being said, value just wasn't there in my opinion. The albacore crudo was $23, and it was a tiny little bowl with cubes of albacore. The caesar salad was $17. The clams and mussels were $27, and there was probably a total of 15 clams and mussels in the entire dish. The salmon was $36 and was the size of my palm. Seabird also charges a 5% service charge on the total bill that is separate to gratuity/tip. Service was friendly. Overall, it's a cute spot for a night out, but I'm not sure I'd come back. read more

Seabird had been on my radar screen and bookmarked since my four posted tips back in 2022 & 2023 (too bad Yelp is removing this feature in June 2025). I had the opportunity to finally dine onsite after attending a celebration of life memorial at Kiana Lodge back on 4/6/25. I figured I should grab a meal before catching the Bainbridge Island ferry back to Seattle. I was glad to have snagged a two top spontaneously stopping in. Definitely if one enjoys fish, shellfish, and seafood, this is a worthy detour. I enjoyed my Seabird Old Fashioned with bourbon, molasses, aromatic and orange bitters ($16) and thankfully a water carafe was placed on my two top. Double the hydration, helps mitigate the effects - just saying. I started with the Scallop Crudo - Weathervane scallop with ginger ferment, vanilla bean oil, sea buckthorn, habanada, daikon radish and yuzu granita ($21). Very nice composition but allowed the scallop to shine through. I also had the fried Sablefish and Chips, where the sablefish was wild-caught off the Washington Coast. A pricey miss for me ($28). The pickled dulse tartar didn't quite appeal to me and I should just stick to sablefish prepared as I'm accustomed, not coated and fried. The did take majority of the pommes frites/fries/chips home - where The Homie feasted on it later at home. Interior was pleasant enough. Service was okay, but being a solo diner, the tables adjacent to me were paid more attention to. That's fine, I wanted to give it a try, pay my bill, and catch a ferry. No reason for lingering and soak in whatever vibe was going at the time. I'm glad to have tried Chef Brendan McGill's spot which is hyper focused on the freshest fish, shellfish, seafood, harvested seaweed, and all things Pacific Northwest. I've enjoyed his other restaurants in downtown Winslow. I also noted recent press that the forthcoming summer season will bring expanded hours, takeout, and new menu items. read more

TL;DR: Elevated seafood with a casual, elegant feel. The mussels were delicious! Eats: For appetizers, we had the seaweed focaccia, raw oysters, and asparagus. All were tasty. As an entree, the mussels came with bits of delicious smoky bacon, which was delectable--I'd order it again. And for dessert, we shared the s'mores-like donut holes that we all enjoyed! Look this place was recommended to Us by the individual at high side distillery and it did not disappoint. We were very fortunate to get there during the oyster happy hour special. So we decided to get a half dozen oysters and some ceviche. The oysters were extremely fresh you could taste the quality of each type, and the difference in taste profile based on where they were caught The ceviche was extremely light and had such a tender taste in your mouth when you paired it with the oil based sauce around it. I was really impressed by the kombucha they had on tap. It paired so nicely with the different oysters and the ceviche that we got. Because we were there around 2:00 p.m. the Ambiance was extremely relaxed. You could tell that people were there to enjoy oysters, good conversation, and have a nice relaxing afternoon. I need to start off by saying this Seabird used to be one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I was naively in great hope that they would have their incredible seaweed ice cream, but to my utter dismay, was sadly informed by the waitress that they no longer had it. It was truly one of their most memorable desserts in which prompted me to take a flight straight from LA, hop onto the ferry straight from the airport and onto Bainbridge just to experience their masterpiece once more. It was just less than a year, and seaweed ice cream is no longer. When I first tried this restaurant a year ago, they had a masterfully curated menu. The menu this year is minimal, with a sadly disappointing dessert selection. I received this seemingly half assed "pink peppercorn strawberry shortcake" at the table. The cream not even a full quenelle, but a misshapen floof. The strawberry peppercorn flavor profile, an underdeveloped combination that weeps. The focaccia, not something to write home about. The carpaccio, was probably the only thing I felt retained some ounce of their original culinary passion. Perhaps Seabird is another victim of shrinkflation, stricken by the economic downturn that incited this depressive flop of a selection (which, pictured, at the peak of summer). One of my biggest wishes is to see their passion reinvigorated, the authenticity of what was once their crowning achievement to be restored. I hope the next time I make my trek back to Seabird, this wish will come true. For now, I'll continue to dream in memory of the remnants of Seabird past. We took the ferry to come out to this restaurant wanting to specifically come to this restaurant and needless to say it was not worth the resources spent for the experience. I want to start off by saying, we were the only table forced to be seated outside, we were sat right by an aspect that was continuously leaking and making the area around us wet. The oysters are roughly around $4.5 per and it was not at all worth it, they were tiny and not satisfying, we ordered around 3 or 4 different types and they were all just too small to taste anything significant. Not to mention it took over 40mins to come out. The baked oysters with bread crumbs had so much bread crumbs, you could not at all taste the already small oysters, they were also overbaked the meat was dry and mix with the bread crumbs, it a like eating sawdust. Our server seemed nice but did not really come around to check on us at all even when our water jar was completely empty of water. The worst part of it all is the fact that they have the audacity to force a 20% surcharge for gratuity, mind you we only had total of 3 people. I understand some restaurants doing this, but this restaurant is far from those deserving of a 20% gratuity off the bat. Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant, the restaurant next door: Basa looked way better and if we ever go back to this island, we will for sure go to any restaurant but Seabird. read more

We went for a day trip to Bainbridge for a fun lunch. The fish and chips were light,flaky and crispy. The tartar sauce was so yummy with capers. The French fries were crispy and just enough salt. My daughter had the clam and mussel dish with focaccia. They were so kind and left out the butter due to my daughter's dairy allergy and she just loved it. Many places won't do without dairy in fear so one will send it back but she was so excited they were able to do it. During happy hours the oysters are an are some price ten per six busy order in quantities of six. They were super fresh and delicious. My husband's old fashion was the best we've had, the bartenders know how to make a well balanced cocktail. Their Chardonnay was crisp with notes of apple really great with fish. We came (kind of last minute) as one of our 25th wedding anniversary celebratory dinners at Seabird, as I've been wanting to try them for some time now. Plus it was a great early spring day to spend on Bainbridge Island. I made reservations for 5pm, but we arrived early and they were able to promptly seat us and gave us complimenatry champagne for our celebration! I'm so glad we did come early, we were able to partake in the Happy Hour Oysters! The HH oysters were the Jade oysters from Sequim Bay - briny and delicious! We also ordered the Glazed Beets, Maitake Mushrooms, Dungeness Crab Toast, and Roasted Giant Pacific Octopus. Everything was delicious, but the absolute highlight was the Maitake Mushroom dish! Right on the corner of the main street in bainbridge, this is where the HH (happy hour) is at! They have something called a "two buck shuck" where you can get a dozen oysters for $24. Naturally my fam, we ordered two dozen lol These oysters are smaller than the ones in the bay area but does not lack in taste and satisfaction. We all LOVED these and were super happy with our choice! Also, the staff was extremely sweet and were all very knowledgeable with what questions we did have for them. You really can't beat this deal! It's a really unassuming restaurant but once you walk in you'll know that the staff and kitchen really care about what they are doing there. I had a light dinner, I ordered the kelp ceasar. I've had many salads in life but this is one of the tastiest ones I've ever had, to go out of your way to make such a great tasting starter shows dedication and effort, it was perfectly salty and had umami flavors but the greens were so light and tender. Finished off with a dozen and a half oysters from Baywater sheflsh co, they were offering Indigos,doubloons, and sweets. These were the best oysters of my entire trip, and I had multiple oysters from different places around Seattle. These were the freshest brightest tasting oysters I had by far. We shared all of the dishes family style: agedashi fritters, mushroom toast, beets, dungeness taiyaki, shrimp schnitzel, rockfish and sablefish (the last two were entree portions purportedly, but were honestly more diminutive than many of the starters - the shrimp schnitzel and the mushroom toast were very generously-sized; the rockfish was perhaps 3-4 oz). We walked in and from the moment we did it was clear this wasn't the place to be matching the ratings. The host barely acknowledged us and acted quite rude. He was dismissive to the point my wife and I looked at each other and said, why would pay $40-50 for entrees at a place with this as the front of house face. If you're visiting Seattle, then you have to check out Seabird for the freshest seafood dishes. We had trouble finding seabird at first because we didn't realize that the sign was hidden behind their special menu. This place does a good job harmonizing the seafood flavors of each dish and tend to rotate their menu according to when the ingredients are in season. The service here was very attentive and friendly. This place is dog friendly where you can sit outside and eat too. Half dozen oysters - came with indigo, Jamestown pearl, and miyagi. We really liked that you can taste a difference in each of the oysters whether it be either more/less of sweet/salty Mediterranean Mussels -had lamb bacon and used honey Meade. Was sweet and salty which was such a lovely combination. We really enjoyed this dish. Salish Blue Clams - had an acidic and tangy taste. The clams were good, but the mussels was a little better in our opinion. Crab Melt -When we went we ordered the Crab Melt it was one of our favorites! I had a little bit of the burnt part and their mousse canister broke down so we couldn't have the Parmesan in mousse form, but it was still yummy that we wanted more. Scallop crudo dish - it reminded us of lychee because of the texture and the sweetness that came from stone fruit. The sea beans added a leafy texture which we thought complimented the dish. Parsley Bucatini - The noodle dish was surprising good too. The anchovies were infused in the sauce and it was subtle/not too overpowering. Really loved the breadcrumbs on top to add a bit of crispy texture. Manzanita cocktail- was watered down and could use more tequila. Saw that a local restaurant was identified by Bon Appetit magazine so decided to plan ahead and go on a date night. I read the reviews and viewed the photos. Based on what I saw I felt this would be a hit or miss. A few hours prior to dinner a friend said they and several other couples were disappointed. We took a chance and really wanted to love it. Their reservation dinner hours start at 5pm. Our reservation was at 5pm. We arrived on time and ordered immediately. I'm not sure how they already "ran out" of the smoked cod gougeres. The menu is pretty small to begin with and the explanation didn't make sense. 1. seaweed focaccia - The bread was nice, airy, and crisp. You get 3 squares of bread. The wakame butter was butter that tasted like nori. Wouldn't order again. $13. 2. kelp caesar - Enjoyed this salad. Plenty to share for 2. 3. dungeness crab toast - We read each others mind on what this reminded both of us of..."tuna melt". It tasted just like an open faced tuna melt sandwich. We did not get the hint of crab at all. For $21, would not order this, unless you really have a hankering to satisfy a tuna melt craving. 4. squid ink fideo - I appreciated the textures in the pasta, the hint of chili and spice, but not something we would need to have again. 5. roasted giant pacific octopus - I only order this at certain restaurants as I find it is a hit or miss dish. It was a bit chewy and we didnt eat it all. The dressing to it didn't really add to the dish. 6. pan-roasted rockfish - Kudos to the chef on the cooking technique of the fish! I was shocked that the fish was thoroughly heated through, I would say hot, but not overcooked. Had a nice char/crunch on the outside and the sea buckthorn beurre, red kuri squash, salsa macha and hazelnut pulled everything together nicely. I've never heard of sea buckthorn. This one dish was the caliber I wished for all the others. We asked how the chef cooks the rockfish. The server said he grilled it. "Um, are you sure, because there are absolutely no grill marks." She went to check and came out saying he quick cooked it in a really hot pan. Not sure why she made up the first answer, but the fish had no indication of being cooked in a really hot pan either. We gave up at that point. 7 Desserts - Maybe as important or more so than the meal. It's what you remember to close out the experience and cinche the perceived value. The beet chocolate mousse and Panna cotta was disappointing, but if you're going to choose, then I'd go with the latter. The two complimentary macaroons were good. I would've been satisfied with just those and I'm not even a huge fan of macaroons. Read the very, very fine print on the menu about an extra fee. They "retain" a %. Basically, it's just extra added onto your bill for no legitimate reason, not counting the tip. read more

We basically did tapas and split everything. We tried the scallops, the bread, the brussel sprouts, fried sunchokes, a half dozen oysters, and the steak picanha. Everything was really good, but the brussel sprouts and the steak were outstanding! They also made a delicious sunchoke puree on the scallops which was delicious and locally sourced from Red Dog farm in Chimacum! The seabird martini was strong and briny and perfect. Everything we tried was very beautifully put together and tasted wonderful. We tried: Cured sardines--Very beautiful flavors Dungeness Crab Toast--This place makes really good bread, and with this one the crab is drenched with tomato cheddar Mussels--the sauce on this was to die for Cranberry Pana Cotta--I usually dont love pana cotta, this one had wonderful flavor and texture change which I loved. The food was absolutely amazing and no two dishes tasted alike. The oysters were so fresh, the albacore ceviche was delightful, the muscles were plump and juicy and very fresh with the light broth, the beats were very tasty, but my two favorite dishes were the mushroom toast, and the rockfish. Our friend was really excited to try this quaint restaurant on Bainbridge Island - she had been looking to go for a long time but didn't have any occasion until we were in town. I am so glad she decided to take us to Seabird. We walked in to a dark, intimate restaurant with spotlights here & there. It had a classy upscale vibe.. I almost felt out of place since we were bundled up in cold weather gear, raincoats, all of it (Seattle is cold for Hawaii folk ok! LOL). We were seated in the back of the restaurant, right in front of the open space kitchen. We noticed that they had left a card signed by all of the staff members, congratulating our friends for their belated anniversary. It was a very sweet touch from the restaurant. Our server was very sweet & soft spoken, she patiently went over the menu & recommended ordering style. She explained all of the dishes as they came out, and overall was really friendly! She gave us a list of recommendations in the Seattle area, which I thought was so sweet of her! Oh and we ran into her the next day around Bainbridge - she remembered us & waved! Okay onto the food.. there were smaller appetizers, larger portioned plates - and it is recommended that you share everything. Some of the items that we really enjoyed were: -Albacore Crudo: So good!! It was sitting in a watercress leche de tigre sauce. Our server said that they also serve the leche de tigre shot-style with some pisco.. so of COURSE we tried! It was savory and tangy! Totally up my alley haha. - Warm Beet Custard: think beet chawan mushi. I didn't know what to expect when trying this, but I'm so glad we did. First, Seabird offers some of the best fare on Bainbridge Island and their menu is finely curated, deeply experimental, and flush with perfection, and their focus on oysters from Baywater is appreciated as this is one of Washington's best oyster producers. Now the bad, we love being seated at the bar but the bartender is just plain unfriendly. The first time we thought, ok, bad day. The second time we thought, ok another bad day, and the third time we said, enough. I don't know what the service is like at the regular tables, but avoid the bar. read more

Went with 4 adults 2 kids and a puppy for Labor Day weekend. Outside seating only had 4 person max so we decided to sit separately. Hostess said it was against policy to split up parties whatever that means. We asked for clarification on what that meant and proceeded to get a whole bunch of nothing for reasoning. We clarified we'd sit separately as in two different servers, two different checks and they said it was against policy and could not accommodate. Can't comment on the food but it was the only restaurant that had seating that evening. Thanks for saving us $500. read more

Wow. This may very well be one of my favorite restaurants in that entire Seattle metro. If you love fresh seafood, you HAVE to try Seabird. The menu is quintessential elevated Pacific Northwest cooking and I feel like I'm missing out if I don't eat here every time I come to Bainbridge. Their menu is seasonal, but they have small changes every single day to keep up with what is fresh and in season and everything is so delicious. That being said, don't be disappointed if you are looking at the menu online and decide what you want and then see that the menu item is not being offered. They do make frequent changes, so what you get in person may not match what you see online but everything is so delicious it doesn't matter. The menu concept is amazing and I love that they publish the tides every single day to somehow connect and ground the audience into how fresh there food is. I also love that they tell you exactly where ingredients are exactly sourced from or the name of the fisherman who cut the fish of the day. The small details really make the experience something special and integrates me into the beautiful environment of the Puget Sound. In some ways, I am sad that the menu rotates so much because there are exceptional dishes that I would love to have again and again, but also this gives a lot of room for innovation and experimentation, which is always super exciting. The first time I came here was in the fall, and I had a chilled corn and crab chowder. It was phenomenal and tangy and umami and the presentation was amazing. I also had the seaweed bread and the compound seaweed butter which was good, but I personally would recommend not getting bread to fill up on so that you could try more dishes. I loved their ceviche dishes and also they have amazing vegetarian dishes as well. The salsify with the brown butter and mustard seed was so incredible and the sable fish is cooked to perfection. Their fish dishes are amazing because the technique that they use poaches the fish first, so that it is always tender and melts in your mouth. Finally, the seaweed desert was also incredibly impressive and innovative, as there were multiple molecular gastronomy techniques and overall, I thought it was a really good value for the high quality of cooking. The service was really good and the wait staff is always super friendly and eager to answer questions. The second time I went back to Seabird, I felt like there were less dishes that impressed me, but I think that's at the cost of experimentation. My favorite dish was actually the vegetarian dish of Woodfire potatoes and leeks. Everything was just so texturally interesting with potatoes in two different ways, with cooked and fresh vegetables. My least favorite dish was the Dungeness crab with kohlrabi noodles because the noodles were just drenched in this really rich and decadent crab butter, that really overpowered everything else. Kohlrabi is a relatively tasteless root vegetable so by having such a fresh element being smothered by a salt bomb did it a disservice. Regardless, I think the quality of cooking has been maintained, and I highly recommend they recommend this restaurant for anyone in the area. Definitely make reservations in advance! Especially in summer months, I foresee this place getting a lot of traffic so be sure to plan ahead! There is very limited bar seating every night, so they frequently do have to turn away people. I'm staying in Bellevue for a conference. I took the 505 express, hopped on the Washington Ferry and crossed to Bainbridge to experience Seabird. I didn't look at the menu ahead of time but rather decided to trust Yelp. Started with the Seabird Old Fashioned, then mussels as the main course. OMG. The mussels are simply amazing. Fresh, delicious, and the broth is worth every drop. Arguably the best I've had. The Old Fashioned is also delish. With molasses it was a little sweet for my taste, but not so sweet as to order a second round! The orange peel and bitters added a nice citrus profile. Then came dessert. For this I asked the bartender and went with the panna cotta. Honestly I'm not a rhubarb person but always up for an adventure. I'm so glad! It was outstanding and completely sold me on what rhubarb can do to a lemon tart. This is. It to be missed while in season. Overall, a very lovely dinner in a beautiful restaurant.
