I very much enjoyed my stay at the Seabird! It's a cozy and simple little place, with homestyle touches that make it special, and a few nice elements that are reminiscent of chains. I visited the weekend before Christmas for an overnight getaway, booking my room through Expedia. I appreciated their honest description when they say some rooms have a distant ocean view - mine did, and it was across several rooftops and Highway 1, but it was straight ahead! Still lovely to watch the sun set out the window. I also arrived a couple hours before check-in and popped into the lobby to see if I might be able to get my room early, and I was happily accomodated! I booked what Expedia told me was the last patio distant ocean view room, which had two queens, but I was able to moved to a king patio room at no upcharge upon check-in - super cool! A couple of small gripes aside - no security lock on the front door, small bathroom counter, and a frustrating excess of decaf pods for my in-room Keurig ;) - I think this place was great for the price on a Saturday night. They could definitely stand to update their decor, but do things like that really matter if you just need a bed for a night? I was able to park right outside my room's door, and perhaps most charming of all was the complimentary breakfast included homemade muffins. A cup of coffee and a homemade white chocolate cranberry muffin a few days before Christmas on a rainy morning near the ocean was a slice of heaven for me. If you're seeking quaint and cozy accomodations, Seabird is definitely recommended - I would happily return! read more

In a moment of rare spontaneity, Jamie W. and I decided to motor up to Fort Bragg for Labor Day weekend. We knew most of the town would be booked up, including our perennial getaway place, Ocean View Lodge, where we could wake up to the crashing waves of the Pacific. After combing through hotels.com with one hand and eating Buffalo wings with the other (we were at Chevy's in SoMa after all), I found that the Seabird Lodge had vacancies. I vaguely recalled it as the worn-looking motel adjacent to the cholesterol-busting Home Style Cafe, a favorite haunt of ours. Sure enough, it was the worn-looking hotel of my recollection, and the decor doesn't look much changed since the Nixon administration. All that was missing were the reproduced velvet paintings of the shoreline that usually adorn the walls of oceanside motels. We were lucky to get a room since they were the official host for Paul Bunyan Days. I was picturing lumberjacks and jills swinging their huge axes and Babe the Blue Ox taking a dump in the parking lot, but no, it was a relatively quiet, standard-grade motel, well managed by the couple at the front desk. We had a mini-fridge and a small TV with all the pay-cable we wanted. There's also a small indoor pool if those kinds of amenities excite you, though it looks like it's targeted for the kiddies since that's all I saw frolicking in the pool. I assume the drunken revelers must splash later in the evening. Our procrastination did cost us since it was $135 per night (with an AAA card), hardly a bargain but in a pinch, it was convenient and clean, which was basically all we wanted. Besides, it was a foggy weekend, so we could have hardly enjoyed the Ocean View for the premium we would have paid there. If nothing else, we were able to walk over to the Home Style Cafe for some much-desired biscuits and gravy. How can you knock that? read more

The Seabird was very good value for the money, and I'd give it 4.75 stars. It was superior to many other motels/hotels in several ways: - Room had a bathtub, not just a shower. As far as I'm concerned, it's just not true vacation comfort without a good soak at the end of the day. - Excellent gooseneck reading lamps built in at each side of the king-sized bed. Great for reading in bed (or just needing to see something) without bothering your partner. - Comfy bed with unscented sheets (no bleachy smell)! - Color scheme was all neutrals, a nice break from the typical "autumn gold & rust" of so many motels. - It was also nice and quiet (this was in January, but maybe it's quiet in the peak season too, who knows). Of course, there was room for improvement in a couple of ways: - Now that we have to check in at an outdoors window, they could be quicker about it! For $330 for 3 nights, during Thanksgiving weekend (including tax and pet fees,) I was completely impressed with Seabird Lodge. It's not fancy but the rooms are clean and spacious, with a microwave, fridge and an ocean view from our 2nd floor room. If you have pets this is a great value with a $10 per night pet fee (not per pet.) The rooms are a bit older and have some wear but for the price I could look past that. I found the bed to be super comfortable with big fluffy pillows and one of the better hotel mattresses I've slept on-seriously I got the best sleep here than I had in ages. They were generous with the towels and nicely scented orange soap. The property does have an indoor pool and hot tub, which I didn't use, but good to know was there. There was a simple breakfast each morning. Free freshly made muffins, yogurt, coffee and teas were laid out each day until 10 a.m. The muffins were quite tasty (they had pumpkin cranberry the weekend we visited!) They welcomed our cats and didn't mind that we left the do not disturb sign on the door while we went out for the day. The kitties got to stay in, uninterrupted, to cat nap the day away. Finally, you are centrally located with easy access to all of the area beaches, parks and cute downtown Fort Bragg. We were just a few miles from Mendocino Botanical Gardens and the Sea Glass museum too. Overall if you need something simple, no frills and affordable this is a great place to stay along the coast. read more

In the words of my mother, "You get what you pay for." Concerning Seabird Lodge, I got what I paid for and that makes me one happy customer. Convenient Pacific Highway location - check. Friendly service- check. Clean room - check. Semi-weird smell in room - maybe. Indoor pool - check. Continental unhealthy breakfast complete with mini muffins - check (however, the mint tea totally made up for it). I believe our King room ran somewhere around $65-$75. Not shabby, eh? I chose the location based on Yelp reviews and the fact that they offer an indoor pool. Unfortunately, I did not make use of the pool due to the abundance of unattended hellions running the show. Note: this business is uber dog-friendly (by this I mean they hang photos of past dog guests on the wall in the entry) Bonus note: food options in Fort Bragg are meh. However, they do have a highly creative vegan-based business/school up the street. read more

Well, my review is a big zero. Had a friend stuck on that side of the river and tried to rent a room over the phone for her as they weren't accepting cash. Worker Brandon doesn't know about customer service very much. I asked that he talk to his manager he insisted that nothing could be done and then when I decided to give up, he called the manager?! Come on I've worked in customer service almost all my life. You need to help people when they need help. This wasn't a situation where things could be helped. I had the money on my card and he refused to take it without some BS about filling out an application over the computer. We've had no power here. How in the hell am I supposed to do that? Well, he wasn't very understanding and I will never use this hotel or recommend it again and that is all OK. read more

Hotel was decent. Rooms were way to hot and all they give is one tiny fan that does not reach around whole room. Beds were so uncomfortable, I could hardly sleep. There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom upon arrival. Breakfast hours are from 6:30-8:30. Wifi did not work, showed as connected but internet would not work. A cleaning lady walked into the room without knocking while I was undressed in bed. When I told the manager about this it seemed like he didn't believe me which was very hurtful. There's a broken bit of metal that was sticking out of the bed that I painfully hit my leg against. We didn't receive any service for the room because we were apparently supposed to request it. We weren't told this and there is actually a door hanger that you're meant to put on the outside of the door to indicate service is needed. We did use this but hadn't received the service. I actually had to take out my own trash. My partner requested some sort of refund for the poor experience and he was accused of just "trying to get a discount". We weren't informed of the pet fee and they charged us on the second day because they forgot. We were also told that we would only get the $20s worth of what I can only assume are town fees on the first day. We were told nevermind about that and received the fees on both days. read more

I think it's ridiculous that we paid $260 for one night. We arrived to stained carpets and no air conditioner. They weren't serving breakfast and the pool was closed due to COVID. They should've taken that into consideration and dropped the prices to reflect that. It's outdated. Find something better if you're willing to spend that amount of money for one night. read more

We recently stayed at the Seabird Lodge while visiting the Skunk Train. The room was very run down, hasn't been maintained or updated in some time. Upon arrival there was a dead bug in the bathroom and some sort of mold/rot or bug poop all around the edges of the bathroom. The room is oddly designed and complete with a very creepy door that goes ... who knows where? Not my idea of feeling safe. There was also no AC. Impossible to keep the window open as the noise from cars/guests leaving and smoke from whoever was smoking outside. Also, they stated that due to Covid, housekeeping doesn't come in and do any cleaning services whatsoever. The pool is suppose to be heated but it was sadly quite cold. I would not recommend staying here and I wouldn't ever go back. read more

Horrible place. we recently went to Fort Bragg for my partners son to propose to their future wife . when my partner went to check in they were met with rudeness and told they were being too polite and cancled our reservation which left us out in the cold with a baby on the night there son was supposed to propose . my partner is a fire captain being polite is how they always deal with people... now they are lying to expidia saying that we checked in and left and are refusing to give us our money back a worning to all and please boycott this place. read more

We stayed in room 137. Our room smelled heavily of cigarette smoke despite the hotel being "non smoking." The peephole was blurry and you couldn't see anything. There was a deadbolt but no extra lock on the top of the door. There was a locked door in our room that led directly to another guest's room (and another guest was staying there). Early in the morning around 5 am we heard the people kept trying to jostle and open the door... Creepy much!??? The people above us were stomping until late hours of the night. The walls are very thin. We heard every person around us. And dogs were barking in the room above us. The staff was nice... and it's a good location. The bed was comfortable enough the pillows were ok. The shower kept going super hot and cold. Won't be staying here again! The indoor pool and hot tub is not open because of the drought. read more

The rooms are HUGE! Check in was a breeze and they love pets so that's a major plus if you plan on traveling with your fur babies. Their continental breakfast was actually pretty good compared to other hotels. Their homemade muffins were a hit and so many varieties to pick from! The location of the motel was smack dab in the middle of everything and it only took a max of 7 minutes to get to all the locations I had planned on our itinerary. The only thing I couldn't deal with was the amount of stomping on both nights that we were staying there from the upstairs occupants. It was like they were wearing metal work boots and doing the macarena all night. We requested to move rooms, but they were at capacity, so we just dealt with it. If you're sensitive to that stuff, I highly suggest you request an upstairs room. Besides that, we had a great stay at Seabird Lodge. read more

Never give them your credit card info.... hang on to your wallets... This place is a huge scam!!... We reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights by calling the hotel directly. They never explained cancellation policy while booking. Confirmation email says, "cancellation by phone only before 48hrs" - are we in 1900s? I called the front desk (Hannah) and cancelled the day before. Later they charged my credit card for full stay. Spoke to the manager (Britney) about the charge. She said I have been misinformed by the front desk clerk and there was no record of my conversation. Nice scam... "cancellation by phone only'!! I showed her email stating 'reservation cancelled'. I even agreed to pay first night stay as penalty... but they charged me full amount. BTW- the reason we cancelled reservation is because of negative reviews of not following Covid19 protocol as mandated by city & county. As it is clear from other reviews this place is dirty and filthy. How can the health department even let them run this place like this? read more

The Seabird Lodge is a dog friendly motel close to the Nayo Harbor in Fort Bragg. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub during our two night stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the breakfast attendants. During our stay the weather was unusually warm and we had to sleep with the window open. Most guests were courteous (families and retired couples) and quiet at night/early morning. However, our first night a guest was yelling outside, which resulted in my husband stepping out in his pjs, asking him to please be quiet. We did notice that The Seabird Lodge was recently painted on the outside, plus our room had flat screen TV and a large mini fridge. I'm not sure if our room was an updated one though. The carpet, linoleum and wallpaper in the bathroom and comforter was well worn/stained. My husband did appreciate the outdoor dog bags throughout the property. My suggestion is for the Seabird Lodge: 1) To switch to non single use plastic cups/utensils in the breakfast room and all guest rooms. It actually saves money in the long run, increases customers approval, looks better and is more environmental. Most Best Westerns have glass cups now and offer biodegradable utensils if they do not have actual silverware. 2) Plant Cypress Trees and hedges around the property to decrease the Hwy noise and improve the look of the Lodge. 3) Linoleum Floors instead of warn carpeting, plus it is much easier to clean. 4) New Comforters. 5) Indoor Potted Plants In the pool area, with a table of fresh pool towels. We were not given towels at check-in, so I used our room towels. The next day I overheard a front desk staff offer pool towels to a new guest, so I asked for some. If you are looking for a reasonable priced Lodge/motel near Nayo Harbor, that is dog & family friendly Seabird Lodge is a good place. The pictures accurately reflect Seabird Lodge too. read more

Great Staff & Hotel. Location Is perfect and they have rooms I feel all types of families can use. They allow pets, provide views of the ocean& as well as breakfast. Ownership is always finding ways to improve the stay at the rest hotel. I recommend staying here when visiting Fort Bragg. read more

(Also read the other 1 star reviews, it's eye opening I didn't check reviews before getting scammed!) $170 for a worse than crack addict run motel 6 style room. -heater didn't work -no useful windows -'patio' was a triangle shape with maybe 4 square feet of usable area, surrounded by a 6 foot tall ugly fence -bathroom sink not even in the bathroom -clock wasn't working -staff not present when I wanted to express concerns -photos on website don't represent the room AT ALL. I was in the room for all of 1 minute and these were the details that were blatantly obvious. I'm sure I would have had more to express. When I finally was able do express my concern the Manager on duty, Hanna, she was unable to do anything due to the 'firm policy' they have in place. Completely unwilling to try and make things right. 10/10 would not recommend. I wouldn't stay there even if I was paid. (North Cliff Hotel across the street was accommodating and offered up a king suite with jacuzzi tub for $40 more) This place reminds me of the movie SAW where guests are tortured by the features of the rooms, and are unable to get any type of refund so are forced to take the room cost as a loss or be in the next Coastal Town Horror. read more

We came into town to check out glass beach and needed a place to stay last min. I wanted a place with a pool and spa to enjoy that didn't close early like most. It was open until 10pm!! And are both indoor witH a heated pool. The spa has a waterfall thing that feels great on your neck after hiking the beach. The receptionist was very friendly. It was the cheapest rate we could find as it's presidents weekend. The rooms were nice and clean. There was also amazing homemade muffins in the morning and yogurt for the complimentary breakfast. Stayed for 3 days unexpectedly, hated to leave! Elegant. The ecru colored towels are sculpted into elephants, bows. A refreshing change from standard white. Many thoughtful details. Complimentary shower cap soaps, shampoo. Spacious room with comfortable tables and chairs, beds just the right softness, private patio to sit out and enjoy the evening breeze. Easy access for guests in wheelchairs. Natural wood enclosure for privacy. Rooms with wider doors also have grab bars just where you need them. Vanity mirrors are low enough to see everything from a seated position. No need to stand while putting on makeup. The manager mentioned new rooms are being built with roll-in showers along with other features useful for stability or wheelchair accommodation. Most people rave about the muffin buffet, so many choices. My favorite, the raspberry chocolate chip. All warm from the oven. Many juices, yogurt flavors, assorted teas for people like me who don't drink coffee. A choice of caffeine-free tea is rare, and deeply appreciated. I think they also formerly had hard-boiled eggs. Omitting them is probably a humanitarian choice. Love this place. read more

A solid option for those of us who want to have the Mendocino Coast experience but can't afford $300++ a night for lodgings. My friend and I, both preschool teachers (i.e. limited funds!!!) spent two nights here for a Labor Day Weekend getaway. The facility is no-frills, but the room was spacious and clean, and the motel is conveniently located just off Highway 1 in Fort Bragg. The lady who checked us in was very nice and I really liked the homemade dog treats for sale at the front counter - bought a $5 bag of them to take home to my puppers. The motel is also dog-friendly --- though I chose not to bring my dogs this time, I definitely made a note of it for future reference. It's true that the rooms have no air conditioning, and my friend and I both like to sleep in a very cool room. Happily, a portable oscillating fan (provided by the motel) set on a table in front of the window, pulling in the sea air from outside, cooled the whole room very quickly and effectively. The included breakfast was only okay - yogurt, hardboiled eggs, bagels and toast, cereal and muffins, coffee and juice. It's always nice to have something included though, and I liked that some of the items are individually packaged; we took a couple of muffins as well as some of the fruit, to be snacks for our Skunk Train ride. A very satisfactory stay overall and I'd definitely return, maybe with my dogs next time. read more

They are not actively remodeling any rooms... You also get to hear everything your neighbors are doing, along with the fun noise of the bathroom vents from the people below you. I thought it was very well-situated between all the places I wanted to eat and see. The pool and hot tub was clean. The room was clean. Reception was very warm. Breakfast was basic but I was okay with that because I was able to grab a muffin and a bottle of water for my morning hike and have a nice breakfast down the wharf or on Main Street. There's actually quite a few places nearby that looked good too. I felt very comfortable. The bathroom from the neighbors can be heard in terms of the pipes and air circulation but I wasn't really bothered by it. Just putting it out there if you are a light sleeper but in that case, I would just ask to be put somewhere not adjacent to an occupying unit. read more

Ok where to begin, clean rooms. Large double queens, smells very clean. Mini fridge and microwave are nice. Linen service is very nice. The review is for customer service. I can't say enough about the front desk. Everyone here is beyond helpful, they went above and beyond to help me through my dilemma that had nothing to do with accommodations here. Excellent! Will definitely stay here again! My friend and I brought our kids here for a mini- vacation and we all loved this place! The room was clean and comfortable. There's a nice indoor pool and a wonderful hot tub with a waterfall into it. The continental breakfast was delicious! They had orange juice and apple juice, coffee and tea with a few options for sugar and creamer. They also have oatmeal and totally delicious fresh baked muffins!! The staff are helpful and friendly. All in all we had a wonderful stay here and are already looking forward to our next stay! read more

If you are looking for a room with a rock hard bed and you really don't want much sleep then this is the place. It was clean but overpriced about 3x it's worth (Covid19?). read more
