Cozy rocking chairs and fireplace in room 16

The views in this place are enchanting! We had room 16 and it was very cozy and charming. I've seen some other reviewers say the decor is outdated but we didnt think so. Its got rustic charm while still being beautiful and luxurious. The bed was tall for sure, so if you're a short person like me make sure to locate the step stool they provide to climb in, but it was so comfortable. The gas fireplace worked like a charm and kept the room nice and toasty. The soaking tub was nice and relaxing after our beach hike (at a quiet and uncrowded beach recommendedby the front desk). And the restaurant attached has some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Seriously do not sleep on having a meal there during your stay! 10/10 we will be coming back.

Just for the views, this place deserves 5-stars. The individual cottages are spacious, clean and cozy. The room we got (19) was near the end was probably one of the best views IMHO. The deck was large with sitting chairs. It's a little dated, but again, clean and cozy. Has a jetted tub, a nice comfy king bed and a cute sitting area with fireplace.

Someone on staff found my earbuds and took them for their own.

We've stayed here several times, including when it was the Albion River Inn. Great restaurant with a great bar and fabulous views. Rooms are cozy. I'd give it more stars but unfortunately, I accidentally left my AirPods (ear buds) in the room. I called the very next morning to ask if anyone had found them. The answer was no. A bit later I realized I can track their location from my phone, so I did, and found that they were in nearby Fort Bragg. So unfortunately, someone on the staff found them and took them.

We stayed in room 11. Plus: Has an amazing view of the coast. 10 min from Mendocino town and 20 min from Fort Brag. Parking is free and on the hotels property for your safety. Has a small fridge in the unit. Coffee, and a complementary bottle of wine is included in the room. There is an ice maker on location. Restaurant is 2 min walking distance away. Breakfast is included in the stay. Cons: room interior is dated. Toilet is older and can hear it continuously drip. Fridge has a loud buzzing making it hard to sleep. There is a continuous fog horn going off every two to three seconds night and day that can drive you mad if you're sensitive to noise. Bed is super hard. Feels like you're sleeping on plywood. Although breakfast is included, beware of getting charged for additional items and 20% gratuity. If it wasn't for the fog horn, i would consider staying here again.

We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

Food wasn't up to the standard I would expect from a 2 Star Michelin restaurant. Maybe lunch is different? We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and this just didn't cut it. The food was beautifully prepared but extremely bland and not very exciting, except for the desert. We informed them in advance that this was our anniversary. I would think that this level of restaurant would do something special. We have been to restaurants that presented a personalized menu, greetings on plates, after dinner cordials, etc.

All of that together adds up to a sort of paradise during these hectic times. There was a big surprise in our room when we arrived and I'm attaching a picture. I had ordered some flowers for the room but what was delivered may have been the most colorful and beautiful flower arrangement that I've ever seen. We didn't know it then, but these flowers were all picked from the Inn grounds. On our way back from our Big River ride we met someone working in the garden. When we chatted it turned out that this person, Cat, had picked and arranged the fantastic bouquet that was in our room. Those flowers kind of symbolizes why we love our visits and the atmosphere at the Inn - one of growth, joy and a deep appreciation of nature. Thank you to all the staff - at the front desk, the restaurant, the room service, the garden keepers, the boat-people, even the cats. We'll be back! Oh, I forgot, on our second night we may have had the best soup ever - a thick mushroom chowder... yummy.

But the real appeal is the views. Just unbelievably gorgeous. It's just one of those things you must do and see in person. We stayed in one of the rooms with the long shared balcony. My initial concern was privacy but it was a non-issue. Everyone was polite and friendly. No noise issues or anything. We spent most of our room time outside enjoying the views and just soaking all of the beauty in. The Little River Inn is just down the road from Mendocino, and a short 10-15 minute drive to Fort Bragg. Perfect location for what we were doing that weekend. Staff was wonderful. The real surprise of the trip was the restaurant. I normally shy away from hotel restaurants, as I prefer to sample the local cuisine. However, we decided to give it a try our first night for Dinner. I was delicious and quite popular with the locals as well. I'll be doing a separate review for the restaurant, as I strongly recommend having at least one meal there. We ended up having two...lol. Just a great stay and a definite revisit when we get the time again. If I could give the place more stars I would.

They spent a lot of time explaining all the health care the animals have available. The tour was definitely worth the price. I read some of the negative reviews. These seem to be from a few years ago, so they are listening and correcting. The ONE thing that irritated me, my wife and others (judging from comments at the time): They start showing a documentary before the tour (show up at least 30 minutes early). They don't finish, but you can watch it all on streaming. The irritating part is they are preparing for the tour during the documentary. Lots of us would have liked to hear, but the manager and employees were all talking (or shouting) preparations. Maybe they could do this BEFORE the documentary or OUTSIDE?? But it is definitely five stars, even with this little glitch. Check it out and help the animals!

We went on a Saturday morning in February, so the experience was peaceful, quiet, and calm. While not a whole lot of animals were out during our slot (just doing their animal thing!), we were still able to see a nice variety of species. The absolute highlight was getting to feed the giraffes at the end of the tour! They are such majestic creatures, and it was a fun, interactive activity. We finished the tour fairly quickly since many animals weren't right up against the fence that day, but it's a fantastic activity to add to your itinerary if you're spending a full day exploring the coast. You can truly tell that the caretakers value and care deeply for these animals. It's a great experience that supports an excellent cause!
