We were excited to have dinner here. And the restaurant is ok. We went to the chefs table as 2 places opened up. We decided to ditch our 930 reservation. We felt rushed. Yes, they were busy, but we didn't like the rushed feeling of the restaurant. It was like we were going into a diner. I guess we should have expected that given how busy it was for the space. I think it would be a nicer experience if you could relax and not have to feel rushed. The wait staff banging in and out of the doors to the kitchen was disturbing. Overstimulating. But that's what we get eating at.the chefs table. I believe others at the tables noticed it as well. It just seemed like a frenzy. The food was very good. But a little on the bland side. But we did enjoy the unusual blends of flavor. For instance, in our catfish.dish, there was dill basil and okra, a unique blend that worked. We had oysters that were ok. They were very small and we ordered what we were told the largest ones. We were a little disappointed overall. However, we are still glad we tried it and will possibly give it another try at some point. read more

First of all, this place is always a treat. The food and service are impeccable! Now, let me tell you about my specific visit last night with my kids... My older, 11 year old, is way more adventurous than our 8 year old. We took a chance based on some other yelp reviews and went in hoping they had something on the menu she'd eat or that they would be willing to help accommodate her in any way. Chef Dean not only agreed to accommodate her, but took time out of his busy dinner rush to personally come to our table to explain the options he had in the kitchen. She ultimately had fried shrimp and French fries which was perfect. We can not thank our server or Chef Dean enough for this! It truly made the experience exceptional. The others of us, in lieu of the ramen special we so desperately wanted to try but had sold out SO FAST and had already been 86ed, had the Fritto Misto, Fennel Citrus salad, 2 of each oysters(raw), Smoked Fried Catfish dish, and the Short Rib. All were *chefs kiss* delicious! For an upscale restaurant, I must say it's refreshing to feel comfortable enough to bring our older kids and know we will have a genuinely lovely family experience. So, we were seated at the bar finishing our brunch when out of no where, I was sprayed with water/soda mixture from the bartender. It was an accident, but got all over my face and side. I was jolted. The cornbread muffins were one of the best things any of us had tasted and the catfish pups were a big hit as well. My son got the ribs and really enjoyed them, but noted they were a little too sweet for his taste. I had the vegan plate and the summer squash & heirloom tomatoes were truly delicious. The surprise of fennel, and micro greens with some fresh mint gave the entire dish a bright and delicate flavor. I had a craft cocktail called the Bijou, gin with green chartreuse and orange bitters. We arrived just before Seabird opened for the evening without a reservation. We were told they were booked but seating outside and at the FCFS. We sat down outside. As soon as they opened Jamie, the restaurant manager, came and got us to seat my eighty year old parents and me inside. Our server and serving team was fantastic - informative, friendly and efficient. THE FOOD - I'm not sure where to start, well, with the starters I guess... try the raw oyster selection- wow! Super fresh, buttery, smooth and the sauces off the hook. The hollandaise oysters are like a savory desert - just amazing. The Eastern cioppino was, hands down, the best I've ever had. Hats off to the chef on this dish. Try it you won't be sorry! We dined around 6:30pm on a Friday. We didn't have reservations but were accommodated at the bar and waited on by Spencer. He was warm and attentive. We were served complimentary cornbread with a honey drizzle that was delicious. As you can see my date devoured his before i could get a photo. We had oysters, peel & eat shrimp, the ribs, and cioppino. For dessert we had the olive oil cake. Everything was incredible from the atmosphere, to people, and food. My husband and I went to Seabird for our anniversary early in January. The appetizers, entrées and cocktails were fabulous! Service was also exceptional. Because we identified our special occasion when we made the reservation, they brought a beautiful dessert with a candle to share. The only reason I'm giving Seabird four stars instead of five is because as a party of two we were given a tiny table right as you walk in the main dining room where everybody walks in and out past you. It really feels that when you go to so many restaurants as a couple, you're going to get the worst seats. read more

I used to be a fan of Seabird's countertop service brunch. Great selection of unique lattes, pastries, and reasonably priced food. I haven't been able to make it out the past few months. I'm not sure when they changed their brunch/lunch service, but their brunch/lunch has switched to sit-down and it seems like the brunch and drink options I enjoyed before are gone. They were replaced with more expensive (but somehow worse) options. I got a basic eggs, grits, bacon and biscuit for $14. Grits were nice, but eggs were dry and biscuit was lackluster. They seem to be a lot busier now as well--I got there when they opened and it seemed like they already had most of the tables blocked off for online reservations. Service was great, though! Very friendly and welcoming. I probably won't be back, though, as I am not a fan of their service changed. read more

We happened upon this place while walking around downtown Wilmington. We got really lucky (reservations were full for the evening) as a table opened up at the bar shortly after we arrived and were quickly seated. Our server, Matt, was amazing! He was super knowledgeable about the menu. My husband had a 1/2 doz oysters, with the catfish pups and ribs as his entree. I had the cioppino. The food was absolutely amazing! It was different from anything we had had previously anywhere else in the best way. Although we were as full as stuffed sausages, we still decided to try the fudge brownie/banana dessert to share. OMG! We couldn't stop eating it and ordered a second. A full on food coma followed. This place was amazing and incredibly unexpected. We have been fortunate enough to try many places of all price and ranges and aren't usually as wonderfully surprised as we were with Seabird. We can't wait to go back. read more

The fries look good but were soft needed salt. Sad, small pickle lacked flavor and crunch. Very disappointing given I'd had a wonderful fried oyster Cobb salad on the dinner menu but those were VA oysters so perhaps these NC oysters just got lost in the roll. Pickle relish and whit sauce got lost in the sandwich and by the time I hit the overcooked, semi-bouncy shrimp I gave up. Nothing on the plate worked. I had read great reviews about Seabird and wondered - could it really be THAT good? The answer is a resounding yes! Our party of five went there on a Friday evening to celebrate 3 of our group's birthdays. We ordered a number of small plates to share - Habanero Sorghum Ribs,(my personal favorite!), Catfish Pups, Cauliflower Hummus, and Baked Oyster Rockefeller. Every item was cooked perfectly, with amazing flavors. For main course, 2 people ordered the cioppino. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was very interesting and non-traditional. Both of the people who ordered the cioppino would have probably licked the bowels if we would have let them! :-/ Two people split the spinach salad and the swordfish schnitzel. Wow! Who knew a salad could be so interesting and delightful. The swordfish, as everything else, was perfectly cooked with delightful flavor. The fifth person in our group ordered the roasted beets small plate, which was also fabulous. We weren't quite finished as we ordered 3 brownie trifles (one for each birthday). I was skeptical about ordering a brownie since so often they are so boring, but - like everything else - this brownie was unique and delightful. Our server, Claire, maintained her pleasant professionalism throughout the evening even when we became a bit overly inquisitive about the menu. What a fabulous experience!
