Shopping has become such a burden amidst the pandemic between inflation and traffic in my area. I stopped into Seabra (Formally Hi-Lo/Almacs) on a whim and ended up being one of the more enjoyable shopping experiences that I've had in a long time. The store is nestled into the back roads of Attleboro, in a plaza that seems frozen in the 1990s. They have ample parking and the store is also accessible by foot which is a nice feature for local residents. It's not as fancy as other nearby markets but it's clean, well lit, and organized. The prices were comparable to competitors, in fact I ended up saving $30 on the entire shopping trip. This particular location also had a wine & spirits section so you can literally do one stop shopping and avoid multiple trips. Lastly, every employee I encountered was pleasant and prompt. The other customers were also friendly and polite to each other. I'm really glad I stopped in and I'm looking forward to utilizing them more frequently. read more

Seabra is a specialty supermarket. Go there to get excellent meats, decent produce, and baked goods; basically, the outside perimeter of the market. Plus, you can buy an alcohol. Don't go there if you need many items from the middle aisles, as they are normally priced high. Overall, it is a great place to shop once per week to stalk up on meats, bread, milk, deli, and produce as needed. The meat selection is top notch and has many affordable options. I like Seabra. It is much better since it has been cleaned up and given a fresh coat of paint and remodeled a bit. It was run down but now I feel comfortable that things are fresh. I go in when things are on sale that I want, such as Portuguese olive oil, lobster , chorizo, bone -in pork roast or produce. They have numerous ingredients from Fall River as well and bakery items. They often have bone-in pork roast on sale. I love this cut of pork, as it's easy to cook and often under $2.50 per lb. That cut is not usually available in big chains like Stop and Shop, Shaws, or even Daves unless it is a weekly sale item. Market Basket used to carry it all the time but then they reduced their space for pork. The meat manager told me I could always ask for it to be cut , but sometimes I just don't have the time to wait. At Seabra, the butcher is always willing to cut the chine bone making it super easy to cut into slices when it's cooked. I also am able to find spices and Portuguese things I use in cooking . I also like that they now offer a bigger selection of wine. The staff is generally polite and nice (especially the butchers) , but I agree with one Yelper's review that they should be taught how to bag the groceries. I usually watch and always have to say something like " Please put the raw meat in a different bag, careful that bag is too heavy etc." . But they always fix it quickly and politely. As with any smaller store, some of the prices on the non-perishable goods can be a bit higher but again, I stop in when there are things on sale that I want. read more

This store has lots of specialty items for different cultures of cooking! Decent prices - 7.99 a lb for lobster but sadly often when I go they are out of something I need. I'll walk out with some of what I needed and usually need to go to another store. read more

Their freezers literally get hot and defrost the food in them, then refreeze. They have the worst fruit out there. You didn't know that was a thing? Neither did I. The only thing they have going for them is that I can walk there. read more

I stopped into the store yesterday for the first time. Produce section was beautifully set up. Nicely displayed. I stopped at the deli for just one thing and the woman there was so pleasant. I talked with two of the guys In the meat department, I was looking for a certain item and they helped me locate it. Bakery was fully stocked and I got two rolls that were delicious. I'm having to downgrade my review, although there is still a lot of good food and value (especially store-baked goods and imported foods). Some things have gone downhill recently. 1) please train your checkouts in bagging. Especially younger ones. Frozen and refrigerated foods should be in their own bags. Ask the customer if they'd like more bags packed lighter. (What's not heavy to young checkout clerks can be ver heavy to a senior or pregnant person. 2nd. You used to have very knowledgeable people behind your fish and deli counter. Still have a couple. But one guy seems very annoyed if you ask him anything and proudly responds to any question with "I don't know" the great folks behind that counter was part of what drew us to you. All it would take is training. You owe that to these youngsters you're hiring and to us customers. read more

What may I say about A.J. Seabra's supermarket in beautiful downtown Attleboro? Well, for starters, I have seen bugs in the baked goods display cases on a few occasions, and also suspect the freezers have refrozen already-melted ice cream. But apart from these and other possible health violations (including a horrible stench in the deli and meats area), my biggest complaint is this store has higher prices than even the better operated, major supermarket chains such as Shaw's and Stop & Shop. And given this store is located in a neighborhood comprised of residents mostly from the lower-income class, who may ill afford its prices, this makes no sense. I have also written to the store's manager about stocking several items (common ones, of popular brand-name products in frozen foods and yogurt) I regularly purchase at other stores, all to no avail, as not a one of these items has been stocked since my letter. So much for listening to the needs of one's customer base. I think another branch of Shaw's or even the expansion of the well-run Hannaford's chain into this area, with competitive pricing and better (longer) hours, would do far better than this poorly-run excuse for a supermarket that appears like some holdout from the 1970s. What keeps this place in business, sadly, are its beer and wine sales. And this situation also attracts a certain amount of derelicts to the shopping center in which this store is located. On one occasion I was approached outside this store for "some spare change" from a young man I knew to be a heroin addict. It was sad, too, as in that young guy I saw someone who, only a few years before, had probably been someone's relatively healthy and hopeful son and possibly brother. I wondered what had led this young man to such dire straits. But that is a subject for social workers and this a supermarket review. With a better-managed supermarket chain, with some security and open until midnight or perhaps even 24 hours (something lacking in the region except for a Walmart in North Smithfield), I think such a supermarket could thrive in this same location. And even with a new supermarket chain, I think with better management, some of the same good employees at Seabra's could still keep their jobs in this location, and maybe even some new jobs created. I am one who thinks it not proper to make complaints unless one also offers some constructive suggestions. So I hope I have done this here. But I was also motivated to write this after I read a few of the reviews others wrote with thoughts similar to mine about this store. read more

My bank has a branch inside that's conveniently open on Sunday. Not too long ago, on a big football weekend, the place was pretty crowded, and yes there were a few of society's less fortunate sitting about, but we are talking about downtown Attleboro after all, and I think this location may well cater to those with limited transportation options. Having concluded my banking business, I walked about and found a couple real bargains, mostly GOYO beans for salads and chili.. with as many people has were shopping at the time, the deli/meat counters were completely vacant. It wasn't as bad as some old world-ish butcher shops I've seen in places like Barcelona, but close. Did you see the movie Desperado ? Imagine a grocery store run by Cheech Marin when he's not tending bar, and you've probably got a good mental image of this place. On the other hand, their bakery section was making something that smelled awfully .... good. Don't go there unless you have no other choice, and then, don't eat any meats that aren't in a proper can. read more

I just moved to the area and have bought steak, chicken and fish here. They have Moxie. Chicken I bought was fresh and $1 less/lb than Stop & Shop-- I kept it in my refrigerator for 7 days before finishing and it was still good. The Attleboro Stop & Shop does not sell boneless chicken thighs. Steak marked down to $2 was indistinguishable from other steak I've had at double the price! The frozen Tilapia I bought was pre-packaged. I have only gone in this place 10 minutes before closing so I have yet had no... encounter with the fish counter, yet. Reiterating a point; the Tilapia is an example of an excellent staple food and not found at Stop & Shop, where the budget frozen whitefish is disgusting (it has added salt and an arcane preservative) and costs more iirc. This Tilapia is good! Fresh fish you buy has all been previously frozen, by law anyway. You should be thankful, for it kills parasites. I thank thee, Box. ...Stop and shop has a robot milling about now, had a serious labor strike and they are showing contempt for humanity with this and their self-checkout lines. Their kale looked tired... That's the only negative thing I have to say.. I want to go back with more time and walk around, looking at all their different stuff. Seabra is next door to Big Lots and Family Dollar for other shopping needs. You might want a window fan, or a bath towel, like I did... Lupini Beans, Pickled Onions, Sumol, Port Wine.. all of these things get me excited and I don't have to go far for them! This is a place I have gone before for meat when ever I BBQ and for alcohol, mainly wine. They have good prices on meat and poultry. Also, they have a wide variety of wines at good prices. Appearence isn't at all impressive but clean for the most part and relatively organized. The do carry other items and products that are not in the normal chain grocery stores. I bought a complete section of strip steaks there. It cost over $60. I often buy meat that way and cut it into steaks myself. When I got home and went to open the sealed bag, I saw that the sell by date was a week prior to the date I bought it! I brought it back the next day, and was given a refund. A small human error, or so I thought. A few weeks later I bought a filet mignon section. I made SURE that I got one with a good sell buy date. When I opened it, it smelled BAD! I told myself that I must have something wrong with my olfactory system, because the sell buy date was over a week away. So, I cut it up, vacuum sealed the steaks and put them in my freezer. Tonight I decided to make a steak for dinner. I took out the filets I had put away, and cooked one up. Then, the smell it me. The SAME rotten smell I had got when I first opened the bag. Again, I doubted my sense of smell, cooked it and took a small piece in my mouth. I couldn't spit it out fast enough. Definitely spoiled! I will NEVER buy meat there again. Had they redated the sell by date, left it out without refrigeration, or what? I have NO idea. But I'll NEVER trust their meats again. TERRIBLE! They should have their store closed for selling spoiled meats. Absolutely unacceptable! read more

Review on the bottle return area only. I recommend going somewhere else to return your bottles and cans. Machines were old and did not work correctly. Floor was very sticky which I can understand. Just very dirty area. The can/return area is separate from the actual store so what was really bothersome was the people hanging in there as though it was a bus station. read more

I think it's great. I'll get my sandwich meat there. The Seabra ham is excellent. The rolls in the bakery are wonderful, always fresh along with their muffins. The onion rolls and sweet rolls are the best and freshest around. They have delicious chocolate croissants. Then there's the hot food if you don't want to cook. They'll have 2 or 3 different choices of things. Noon time is the best time to go for the freshest made. Great for lunch or bring home and warm up for supper. The pot roast is delicious. A lot of times they'll have chicken thighs. It's just me and I'll buy 2 and always have some left. I love them. I'll make some rice and a veg at home and it's a nice meal. Their rice is delicious too. They have other hot foods as well. The chicken pies are good! Very nice employees too! read more

Here the comment relates to Seabra Foods being a poor citizen of Attleboro. For the past month I have observed one of their shopping carts stuck in the Ten Mile River (that's about two blocks from the store). I have notified customer service at the store on three different occasions and they have not retrieved the cart. I presume the cart was stolen from them. I infer that the store management is indifferent to the implied theft of their property and also indifferent to the message sent by their very visible shopping cart stuck in the river. The store itself seems OK and we occasionally shop there, but would do so more often if it were a more attractive business and a "good neighbor." Maybe city officials can find a way to apply pressure for the store to retrieve its property? Maybe using the anti-litter laws? read more

For starters, the staff running the store always thinks they are busy when in fact they lack the skills to run the show. Returning bottles and cans is a real nightmare here as the machines never work and when they do, they are "to busy" to cash you out ! Secondly, NEVER buy fish there. It is very outdated and we have had to return it several times before quitting as the computer spits out a different sell by date than it is advertised. THE FDA could have a field day in this store ! What to say about this grocery store? Well to be fair it's gotten a little bit better over the years. It's much cleaner than it was five years ago. Back then the building was very dirty, the products like the meat was poorly wrapped and sometimes the store would even have an odor but for the most part that's been taken care of. Now the alcohol aisle is nicely designed. This grocery store is still around today because of all the alcohol it sells and for cheap beer, this pace this ideal. Beyond that, this business is a disaster waiting to happen. First of all, from a customer stand point, this company doesn't care about it's customers at all, only money which is why they try to cut corners around everything. The building is poorly kept up. The meat department freezers leaked water for months before they bothered fixing it. At times the freezers would stop working and items would have to be pulled. Constantly the freezers needed fixing and Seabra waited their sweet time to do it. As for frozen food, many occasions I would notice their frozen products like their ice cream were soft or melted. Next, their flyers almost every week have so many mistakes from putting the wrong pictures with the wrong sale listings to even making mistakes as big as saying a certain produce goes by the sale price per pound when it was supposed to be quantity. We as customers have every right to be upset because we were falsely advertised to and then when we get to the store, we find out the makers of the flyer made yet another mistake. Then this company's poor staff has to deal with angry customers and explain to everyone the foolhardy mistakes the company made even though it wasn't their fault. Seabra makes no effort to fix their mistakes other than having their staff make cheap signs. Next is this company's staff. It's a very poorly run staff and it's not even entirely the staff's fault. When you got people who work for a company that has absolutely no care in the world for it's employees, it's very hard to have its workers motivated. I met some very nice people who work(ed) there and some have been there for 5+ years with no raises which is just ridiculous. That's why the staff turn over rate is very high. Who could blame everyone for quitting? I know I'd quit. Unfortunately many of the employees who work there have no personality. They hate being there and want to go home the minute they punch in. They are miserable because they are working for a toxic company and when a company doesn't know how to properly run a staff, it hurts everyone including customers where we don't get the proper customer service. I'd talk to workers who had no idea what they were doing. I'd see workers text or talk about personal issues right in front of me when they were supposed to check me out. That's not right. When I go to Stop and Shop or Dave's Market Place, the workers are much more friendly and professional because they are treated decently so I know it's Seabra's fault their staff is the way it is. So in retrospect I expect this company to go under within the next year because of all the stories I hear. I hear they are going through big financial woes which most likely is do to poor spending and management. If Seabra were smart, they would sell their stores to another grocery company that actually knows how to run a business. read more

I only used the bottle return here. Placed smelled like a dump. Got my change and ran out. Something must have gone bad or moldy and no one cared to clean or throw it out. Very dismal employees. I only stood at the service desk for 30 seconds and had the same three employees look at be before one cashier said she would take care of my bottle returns. read more

This is to notify you that I will no longer be shopping at any of your locations. I will also share my story with as many as I can. The Manager at the Attleboro location would not allow VETRANS there over the weekend for their Poppy Drive after acquiring permission back in September. The "manager" Derek Oliver asks the WWII Veterans to leave the premises. Clearly bad management a simple phone call would have saved the Veterans embarrassment. The registers may at times seem unattended however this is not the case and just an example of the store's equal opportunity employer policy and the majority are under five feet tall. if there were less than a star available it would still be too much of a good rating. every time i or my wife go there we swear it will be the last time but today we were enticed by the great sales in the flier. nothing in the flier that we wanted was ready; the boneless breast hadn't been put out or cut yet (actually the whole meat area was pretty empty) and the onions 2# for 69c weren't in yet. both dept clerks said the items "should be on the truck today"; the oranges that were on sale looked okay but the broccoli crowns were very under-whelming to put it nicely. said it before and will say it again i think the only reason this store stays in business is because it's the only one in the neighborhood read more
