This is the best sushi north of Calabasas. We live in Camarillo and I'm so glad I found this place--at long last, I have a solid sushi option that will deliver to me. The scallop is excellent. And I've generally enjoyed everything I've ordered; however, blue crab is one of my favorite sushi orders and I won't order it if the establishment seems... sloppy. Because that almost always means there will be shell in it. I've never once gotten shell in my blue crab at Sugarfish. I expected the same of seabutter but in our blue crab cut roll tonight, my wife and I both experienced that unpleasant crunch of shell. And my bit was too large to have been missed. I don't often write reviews, but I'm writing this one because I like this place and I genuinely hope that they accept this feedback and take more care with the crab prep because everything else is excellent. read more

Still the #1 place I'd come for sushi. Just a couple items that were off. Came for a quick lunch. I had the Hye and a couple orders of Salmon Truffle. Beautiful and delicious. I then went with another fav - Mr. Crab. Yet this was different. As per the description, this should be "Blue Crab, Shrimp Tempura, and Baked Langostino... " It 'is' called Mr. Crab, not Mr. Langostino. Yet it was basically just the inexpensive Langostino. Maybe there was a tiny shred of crab on the end, but I saw/tasted no tempura shrimp. Maybe they were running low on their mix. No idea. The other issue was the napkins. These had to be the cheapest I've come across. I think those at In and Out are more study, and this is a sit-down restaurant. I'm not always flawless when trying to avoid drips of soy sauce in my lap, yet I barely covered one leg when I opened it up. And simply dabbing my fingers on it tore holes in it. See pics. Absolutely phenomenal experience here! The sushi was outstanding and so fresh. I do wish they had more rolls without salmon but that's splitting hairs. 100% worth the cost of the food we ordered. Our service on the other hand was pretty terrible. The blonde girl serving us paid more attention to one of the male servers she was trying to flirt with than to us. I literally had to flag her down anytime I wanted something. At one point I asked for the menu again, one would think they would come back to ask if I wanted anything else shortly after that but no, I once again had to flag her down. This was somewhat of a random find on our way home from Santa Barbara. My kids were asking for CA roll, and needed some place to kill some time to wait for traffic to die down before we got into LA rush hour. I didn't have time to look at the menu or check its price beforehand so was kind of disappointed when we got here. This is definitely a modern sushi place and prices are on the high side. Given that its other locations are also in a ritzy area like Beverly Hills and Laguna Beach, I knew it was going to get pricey. It doesn't even have CA roll on the menu. This place doesn't even have imitation crab meat. Closest thing to a CA roll is a real blue crab roll. The food was really good, but portions were small and price was high. My wife and I both loved Salmon Avo and Tuna Citrus, both under Pressed Sushi section. Fish tasted very fresh, and the flavor was further enhanced by citrusy sauce on both of them. Salmon Avo had a nice smoky taste from seared salmon. Tuna Citrus was slightly spicy with a refreshing lemon flavor. The Naked Salmon (low carb roll) was good too but the texture was a bit too mushy. The service was really slow and very lackluster our server seemed to be more interested in chatting with friends and other employees then paying attention to serving what he was supposed to serve , and the sushi unfortunately was lacking in any kind of flavor or creativity It was not fresh not great. read more

We visited Seabutter on a Sunday for lunch right after they opened. It was not crowded yet and we got seated right away. Since it's our first time here, we ordered a few different items to try - salmon truffle, pressed sushi, blue crab hand roll and Mr Crab cut roll. My favorites are the pressed sushi (I ordered the toro one) and it was so yumny. I've never had something like this before and it was such a pleasant surprise. Blue crab hand roll is also very fresh and tasty. I just needed to have it right away so the nori doesn't get soggy. Our food came quickly and our server is very friendly. Overall is a great experience and I'm so happy to find an authentic sushi place close to me. read more

Everything about this place is amazing except I wish the restaurant itself was bigger and more roomier. Service was great! My mom and I just went for lunch for my birthday. I've had Seabutter many times at this location (mostly as takeout) and it's always delicious. However, the staff today was just absolutely amazing. Was happy to see a new spot to eat where I charge my Tesla while traveling weekly. Was too busy the first time to get an order in time, so this time I ordered to go while driving... I set a specific pick up time when i knew id be there. They ignored it and it was ready for pickup 30 minutes early. Well, just hoped the rice would still be tender. I arrived and it was pretty empty on a Tuesday at 2:30. No need to rush. I had ordered a Spicy tuna toll and blue crab roll. Start simple. Took it back to my car (around 24 bucks with tip) Excitedly opened the box.. Woah. Super small portions. Sloppy cut. Rice was not soft. Bummer! I was barely full. Usually one roll is enough for lunch for me. I ate both in 5 minutes. Tuna was uninteresting. Their menu photo shows it stuffed with interesting things but those are all addons apparently. Crab was decent but a bit pungent. Well. No thanks, drive 10 minutes more and spend 6 bucks more to grab a real meal from sugarfish. This was disappointing. Perhaps I'll try a speciality roll at the bar someday and give another chance but my gut says no thanks. read more

Secondly, the restaurant was completely empty. I do not recommend anyone coming here because the service is absolutely horrible. One of a kind sushi. Service is wonderful - super friendly. The wait can be long but sometimes they will surprise you with an availability. But def make reservations. Happy cow (wagyu) roll was sooo good, black cod, sushi medley (especially the fatty tuna), the wasabi isn't as spicy so you can tell it's authentic. Seabutter is quality sushi, stellar service, and the perfect spot to dine for some more premium sushi. I'd definitely agree with other reviews, make reservations! The restaurant itself isn't very big inside and I've found no matter what time of day I've come almost every table is taken. Made this mistake coming on a weekday night once in which the wait was 45 minutes. Today I learned from my mistake and made lunchtime reservations in advance and we were seated immediately. The packed restaurant is just a testament to the quality of the sushi and the dining experience. Staff and service are easily 5 stars. Our reservation was honored and we were seated quickly. Our server today was a nice gentlemen who was very kind and on top of things throughout our dining experience. I appreciated that he checked up on us an appropriate amount but also left space for us to converse and not feel rushed. I appreciated the small gestures like clearing our plates once emptied and picking up little things like straw wrappers etc. Those little observations go a long way in service for me so I was impressed. Also the sushi chefs are on it here! Plate after plate came out within minutes of each other. The perfect pace when sharing and it was nice despite being busy we didn't have to wait long at all. The quality of the sushi to me is the main selling point. The sushi was really delicious and fresh. Presentation is also Instagram worthy, clean cuts and nice touches to the playing. My favorite bites were their salmon nigiri, spicy tuna on crispy rice, and oyster shooters! But every bite was good. I don't think you can go wrong here. The only thing worth being clear is it's a tad pricy for the portion size. But that's Westlake for you, you'll get quality which matches the price point but you definitely can't overeat here unless your willing to drop a pretty penny. Prices aren't terrible or anything but when sharing a few plates we still felt a little hungry but we noted it was better this way as we didn't overeat. Just wanted to share that it's more an upscale sushi experience or light bites for the pricing to me. I'd surely be back when in the mood for a more classy sushi establishment on this side of town. First time visiting this small sushi place in the Westlake Promenade, didn't disappoint! Although the rolls are pricy, the dishes this restaurant has to offer is exquisite and like no other. I'd say the most special dish would be the crispy rice, I've never seen a sushi restaurant serve that type of dish and so well. I tried the baked lobster, spicy salmon, and spicy yellow tail crispy rice dishes, and each one was so delicious! Sushi is always fresh. The staff are friendly and nice. Convenient location next to the movie theater and Tesla charging station is just outside. They have a good selection of sake and beer. Late review as I came here during LA Restaurant Week. The food ordered was part of their prix fixe menu for LA Restaurant Week. Overall the food was good. The standout item being the pressed sushi as I had never had that before. Also from the nigiri course the HYE: minced yellowtail belly, sesame oil, truffle, kizami wasabi, and sea salt, was my favorite bite as it incorporated a lot of my favorite flavors. Service was ok. I felt they brought out the courses a little too quickly and as we sat at the bar it led to some crowding. They also did not prove the special restaurant week menu until we requested it. Otherwise they were friendly, helpful, and cleared out dishes quickly since we were limited on space. Will be going back to try more of their other offerings and maybe we'll get a table next time. read more

We brought our best friend for her birthday on a recommendation, last week we called in and made a reservation-the process went well on the phone and they even asked if it was a special occasion and wanted to know the birthday girls name. Totally impressed with the the phone process, when we arrived on our reservation day and 10 minutes early we were greeted by staff but they could not find our reservation and when they did it was for the next day. Whomever took the reservation on the phone mixed up the dates, the staff stated that they were fully booked for the evening and did not have a table, she said give me a moment and she grouped up with some other staff members and came back and stated they could seat us outside in front of their establishment. I said it was fine but please don't seats there and forget us and she said she wouldn't. It was 5:30 pm and it was a splendid table close to the fountain, breezy and starting to cool off so it was a pleasure to dine Al fresco. We were greeted by smiling happy staff members taking our drink orders and a few of the dishes, I am a sushi lover and I have to say the sushi plates were incredible! So different than what I have had with incredible flavors in their sauces topped with fresh micro greens. We had the Marilyn Monroll ((which I didn't take a photo) was so good with plenty of proteins in a rice less roll. Fresh and tasty. Everything we ordered was delizioso. The staff checked on us regularly and always happy to serve. I would really like to give it a 5 star rating but they did botch up the reservation but also did redeem themselves. Outstanding food, great service and a wonderful ambience sitting outside. Well done Seabutter, we will be back. Thank you for making our friends birthday dinner a wonderful experience. We've been coming here whenever we crave excellent sushi (usually for a quick date night and often before a movie next door). This evening, I ordered through postmates-- the salmon medley and hon maguro medley. Just a quick solo bite. But I wish I had ordered it times three. It's so good. Recently visited as part of Dine LA week for lunch service. Surprisingly it was quiet for a Saturday but that just meant we were able to sit at the sushi bar and enjoy our sushi at a quick pace. The highlight of the menus were definitely their specialty nigiri and pressed sushis. The dine LA was a good intro to some of their house specialities. The Hye and Salmon Truffle were definitely my favorite. I also enjoyed that items were served with wasabi to accentuate the fish. The pressed sushi course consisted of salmon, avocado, and a lemon olive oil. Which I've not had this style of sushi elsewhere and need to explore more. I would come back to try their nigiri with uni options and their other pressed sushis. I think these definitely are a must try when visiting. read more

I NEVER bother to write reviews. But I ordered Seabutter sushi delivery tonight during a work trip. This is hands down the BEST sushi I have had....probably ever now that I think of it. The truffle salmon? (Chef's kiss!) Green goddess? So fresh and a little spicy Miss Salmon no rice....tiny but super high quality I just regret that I ordered garlic edamame and didn't have enough room to eat it :( On top of the best meal (and healthy!)
