Foxtails embedded in my dog's fur that the vet claims is allergy related.

Unfortunately, just about everything went wrong. I brought my dog Buddy to SeaCoast over a 3-week period and spent nearly $2,000. He left sicker than he came in. Buddy originally went in for itching and suspected fleas. I followed all instructions--flea meds, crate rest, bland food--but he quickly got worse. He began trembling, limping, wheezing, coughing, and developed swelling in his face. I returned multiple times. Each visit brought a different guess: maybe a spinal issue, maybe an allergy--but no real diagnosis or action. Eventually, I found barbed plant material (foxtail) embedded in his fur and face--something urgent and dangerous for dogs. I showed the vet photos and even brought physical samples. They refused to remove it, denied further care, and dismissed my concerns. I was later told they would not see him again. Since then, I've had to remove foxtails myself. Buddy is still wheezing and losing weight. I even scheduled a follow-up online, hoping they'd reconsider--but instead I received a formal letter ending our relationship. SeaCoast promotes itself as compassionate and personalized. What I experienced was poor communication, misdiagnosis, and ultimately refusal to treat a visibly suffering animal. If something similar has happened to you, I urge you to file a formal complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. Our pets deserve better.

Dr. Ryals and all the staff at SeaCoast are absolutely wonderful. They take great care of my fur baby.

The staff is great. The service is great. We had a crappy vet before this place. They really care. They even let me in to pick up my cat after his surgery, even though they were having a meeting. A sign of a well run vet clinic is the type of place that makes sure they have meetings. We have 4 cats. Koala Bear needed some major dental work. We knew from experience with another cat that it would be expensive. It was still less than the other place. They really care about our pets here.

I have had pets for over 35 years and I have always took very good care of them. When I moved to Imperial Beach I needed a new vet I could TRUST. I asked around and a lot of people recommended Dr Dee at Seacoast veterinary. Well let me tell you!! Dr Dee is the most honest CARING vet I have ever had. She goes out of her way to help you in anyway she can. I will never take my dogs anywhere else. If your looking for a outstanding, caring honest Vet go see Dr Dee. I truly feel so blessed to have found her.

I first contacted this clinic in April regarding my dog, Teejay, who was diagnosed with an acanthomatous ameloblastoma, an aggressive oral tumor. From the beginning, I explained that I was traveling from Los Angeles and that I have mobility limitations following spinal surgery. Because of those limitations, I repeatedly asked whether my records could be reviewed in advance and whether there was any way to minimize unnecessary trips. They declined and stated I still needed a consult before I would even get the X-rays done. Considering this is a tumor that's aggressive I chose to have the X-rays done here so avoid a trip there. Months later, after obtaining a pathology report, laboratory work, dental radiographs, skull/jaw imaging, and photos, I contacted them again and was specifically instructed to email everything for review. I did exactly that and sent a detailed email with all records attached. Five days later, the response I received was essentially to contact the scheduling department. The problem is that the scheduling department was the same office that had originally instructed me to send the email in the first place. Instead of reviewing the information, I was sent in circles. When I pointed this out, I was disappointed that nobody simply acknowledged the mistake or apologized for the inconvenience. Instead, I was repeatedly told that I should have informed them that I had sent the email and what email address it came from. My full name, contact information, dog's information, pathology report, photos, imaging, and laboratory work were all included in the email. At that point, the issue was no longer the email. The issue was the complete lack of accountability. Even after explaining multiple times that my dog had an aggressive tumor, that I was traveling from Los Angeles, and that I was recovering from spinal surgery, I continued receiving explanations and excuses rather than a simple acknowledgment that the situation had been mishandled. If this is how communication is handled with the client, it did not give me confidence moving forward with a major surgical procedure for my dog. At a minimum, I expect basic communication, follow-through, and professionalism when dealing with something this serious. After reading other reviews from people who traveled from Los Angeles and experienced similar communication issues, I feel I made the right decision not to proceed. Fortunately, I found another veterinary surgeon who reviewed the extensive records I had already gathered. They reviewed the pathology report, imaging, laboratory work, and photos and agreed that no additional diagnostics were needed before moving forward. Surgery has already been scheduled. I cannot comment on the quality of the veterinary care because I never reached that stage. I can only comment on my experience as a prospective client, and unfortunately that experience was disappointing.

The team at Plaza Blvd is so amazing--when i first noticed "something off" with my german shepherd mowgli, i called a ton of places just going off yelp reviews and recommendations. No one could take us same day, until I reached Plaza. Their friendly staff was like "we are fully booked but i can squeeze you in at X time, you might have to wait a little but should be quick." They were busy, but not busy enough to show extreme compassion for mowgli and myself--they gave him pets and quickly diagnosed him with an infection. They were reassuring, not scary at all, and just instilled so much trust from the first visit. I left with antibiotics and suggestions for next steps (extractions) and what everything would cost. The team was professional and caring, and prices were fair. I'll be taking Mowgli here for the rest of his life!

I needed to find a vet near me in National City and found Plaza Blvd Pet Hospital. I called to make our first appointment and was helped by Gabby and she was a perfect first point of contact. She was attentive to me during our chat and I didn't feel rushed even though I know there were a lot of calls coming in. On the day of our appointment I was greeted by Shu the vet tech and she was also friendly and really sweet to Cedric and I. I like when my fur baby is treated like family because he is family to me. Next we met with Dr Castaneda. I was yet again pleased with his attention to my concerns and very informative on what Cedric needed to get him in the best health. I had a follow up visit today and met with Dr Dhaliwal ( Dr D) the primary Dr for this office and for the 4th time I was impressed and very pleased with his attention to Cedric's needs in regards to his allergies. Dr D is definitley in the right line of work as there was no denying that he loves animals- Cedric loved him. Thank you Plaza Blvd pet hospital for treating us so well and giving us a safe, clean and friendly place to come to for all our future pet health needs. *Also Plaza Blvd pet hospital is a very busy office and they are very transparent with their fees and policies regarding no shows and what to do if the need arises to cancel your appointment so do not be alarmed with other reviews of clients complaining because they weren't able to show up whenever it was convenient for them. This place is GREAT!
