I really like this vet and will be recommending them to friends and clients. The vet is honest, straightforward, and out and about, involved and interested in all of her patients. If you are a sucker for infomercials, telemarketers, and scams...this place is for you! I am new to the area and decided to give this place a try. The doctor, the assistants, and the receptionist all tried to sell me OVER and OVER on pet insurance and medications bought exclusively through them. They made it difficult to get the prescription to take to an outside pharmacy and said that medications bought online are unsafe and essentially ineffective at protecting my dogs. The doctor was curt and a bit too casual in my opinion and my dog did not feel comfortable in her presence. I have since taken my other pet to IB Pet Hospital and loved my experience (for a fraction of the cost!). read more

We are new to IB, so we chose this vet based on Yelp reviews. So sorry we did! We have an older cat that needed shots and his claws clipped. Let me say that we had just a few months ago we had his claws clipped by a mobile groomer & it was a very pleasant & uneventful experience... So, the vet takes our cat from the exam room into a back room to clip his claws & give him shots?! I have NEVER had this happen. From the room we can hear our 17 year old cat growling & crying. The vet comes & has us go into the back room. Our cat is being held down with a dirty towel over his face & his paws are bleeding! The vet has literally ripped out a claw! She then proceeds to tell us, without apology, that he will now need a $60 antibiotic shot & we will have to get special litter so he doesn't get an infection. We were mortified & felt horrible for putting our cat through this unneeded trauma. We got the litter, paid the bill ($174+0 and left. We have three other cats & have made an appointment elsewhere for them. Two days later and our cat is bleeding from his paws & in pain. read more

They were supposed to pull 2 of my dogs teeth. While she was under anesthesia they pulled 14 and charged me $1600. They never once called to get my permission to pull more than 2 teeth, or even to inform me of it until it was time to pay. read more

I've taken my dog to see at least five different vets within the last two years, and I am SO happy to have found her new vet Dr. Dee! My girl got a bad cut on her leg, so I called to schedule an appointment and they were able to get me in quickly the same day. For the first time I felt like the doctor was genuinely concerned about my dogs health, which is such a great feeling after many bad vet experiences! First off, the staff is GREAT here (very friendly and caring), and it is also a very clean establishment. 5 Stars for that! HOWEVER, and I am now seeing a trend on yelp, Dr. Dee is NOT very kind, lacks "bed side" manners, does not listen to concerns of pet parents, talks down to pet parents, is very pushy and short in her response, and very unprofessional. MINUS 3 STARS for that. ****I say very unprofessional because as I am reading some yelp reviews I see that she is responding fully disclosing client-vet information. She is literally going out of her way to disclose client names and other information without consent. This is completely unacceptable and if she were a professional helper dealing with human clients, her practice would face law suits and she would probably lose her license.**** Because she is dealing animals, I'm not sure if there are policies and penalties in place to protect pet-clients or their owners, but now I will be looking into it. Nonetheless, she claims to be an "advocate for pets", so I don't why she is not protecting their confidentiality. [UPDATE:: I found that it is illegal for her disclose such information so to those involved you do have a case if you wish to pursue a lawsuit.] As for my personal experience I have interacted with Dr. Dee a couple of times and held off on making a final assessment until I got a full measure of her. Why? Because I am human and I know I too have bad days and am passionate about certain things (i.e. pets and caring for them). But after reading reviews I can confidently say that my first impression of her was the correct one. Every negative comment others have experienced, I, too, have experienced each time. I actually dread going back to that place and having to deal with her. If it seems like I'm being vague, it because I am, so she doesn't respond disclosing my pet's name and situation. So why would I go back? Because the staff is genuinely nice and caring, and there is a very nice vet (I forgot her name) that is the complete opposite of Dr. Dee. I am on fence, however, deciding if I want to support a place she is running. If I can't request the services of that other Vet then I will be finding another establishment. Anyways I am both happy and sad to see others have the same issues with Dr. Dee. I honestly think most of the issue is just her personality, but as far as being unprofessional that brings a huge amount of shame on herself and the community, as well as shakes the confidence of how much of an "advocate" she really claims to be. It would be nice to see some humility from her via an apology to all those pet owners and pets she so thoughtlessly called out. read more

Took my shiba inu for flea allergies. I'm always nervous to take her in because my old vet would always give her a steroid shot and I didn't want any more of those. They told me they don't do steroid shots for allergies which made me really happy. My dog is aggressive towards other dogs so they put me in a room right away when another dog came in. They also listened when I told them she goes nuts when she gets her temperature taken and didn't do that. I've take her to other vets and they always try anyways when I say that and it never works and turns into a big fiasco. I was very happy they made what normally is a very stressful vet visit into a welcoming happy experience. read more

They had given me a list of what my cat was due for on her next visit so I made an appointment and when I showed up, the vet came out with her assistant who took my cat inside while she stayed out and tried to sell me a package. I said no. That I was just there for the scheduled treatment. So she left and came back out with some pamphlets on insurance and then tried to sell that to me. I said no. Then she went back inside and then came out with a list of extra shots that she wanted me to sign for. At this point, half an hour had passed. I declined all the extra treatments that she tried to talk me into. She then got upset and turned around and just walked away angrily. 20 minutes passed and I hadn't heard from anyone. Finally an assistant came out to give me my cat back. I asked for a receipt and I was told that they will email it to me later. When the email receipt arrived, it listed the other treatments that I had declined but not the treatment that I was there for. When I called back to complain, the vet told me that it was my fault for declining the extra treatments and that I confused her on what I really wanted. I told her that I would not be returning to her anymore. She said, "ok" then hung up on me. Imagine if I would have taken the package that she tried to convince me to get. I would have been stuck going back to this horrible human being. read more

Really liked the red headed gal and the super cool South American man, which is why I'm giving 2 stats not 1. But the main vet was very arrogant and tried to up sell me 3x. My dog was sick and I needed a vet close to home. Seacoast Veterinary's Dr. Dee is very kind and compassionate upfront honest no "bull" kinda vet! I like her a lot! When I found out my dog was very very sick instead of talking me into fixing him would have cost I think close to 2K if not more. I decided to euthanize him and I was nervous about being judge and instead was told very compassionately I had made the right decision. We're about to move out of the area and will really miss Dr D and her team. Ever since she took over the practice, I've noticed Dr D continuously improving the practice. They always were great with our pets but they are more efficient every time we visit. I really appreciate how Dr D makes sure I understand what our pets need and what it will cost. She works to find alternatives that fit our budget. The staff is always friendly and their follow up is outstanding. I can only hope we find such a caring, dedicated vet and vet team in our new location. read more

Our chihuahua is very skittish when it comes to these trips (probably due to past experiences with mediocre vets) but she's never had problems here. We recently got our dogs back and needed to find a vet right away because we found fleas on them. After reading the Yelp reviews and most importantly, the Vet's responses to the reviews, we decided to go with Seacoast. It also helped that we live less than 2 minutes away. I called on a Friday morning and was told that unfortunately, they could only get us in on Saturday unless I could come right away. I made it work and lugged the two Aussies and 9 month old twin girls over to see Dr. Dee. Everyone that works here clearly likes animals. Both the dogs and twin girls were greeted with equal fanfare! They got our records from Virginia, where we moved from, and each dog was seen individually. We were correct on our flea assessment and both dogs were treated for fleas, as well as given several exams that had lapsed. We were in/out under an hour and one of the workers even helped me put the dogs in the truck. The thing that really set this place apart was the follow-up. Dr. Dee sent us an email with the diagnosis, treatment, and recommendations for future visits. It was the first time we'd received that kind of follow-up. We have had several more interactions with Seacoast Vet and they have all been positive. On our last visit to check on the status of the flea treatment, Dr. Dee even came outside to meet my husband. What a nice touch! Did I mention it is only 2 minutes from the house? How much better can it get? A true piece of mind knowing our pups have great care that is close and that will respond at any time of day. read more

I was very unhappy with my previous vet and had lost faith in them. When my cat was diagnosed with diabetes my last vet just gave me a $43.00 case of cat food and a prescription for insulin and said to give him 2 units twice a day. They never told me I had to test him first or even asked if I had a meter. When I asked if this was going to be needed for the rest of his life they said yes. There was no talk of remission at all! After doing some internet research, I decided to get a second opinion. I am so happy I did. All my questions were answered and I was given a comprehensive plan in order to get my baby into remission. Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable there. It's so great to hear my baby purring again! read more

I'm not sure how dr DEE has received more then 2 stars. Anytime I come in she tells us or dog is "dying" or needs antibiotics or surgery. They give you the run around in order to get more money out of you. After making my own decisions for my dog he has been doing much better. I refused a surgery and antibiotics and he is doing better then when they tore him up over and over again. I kept giving them chances but will never return to this vet. Do your research and make sure they are milking your wallet at the expense of your animal. read more

I just started seeing Dr Dee because my old vet closed his practice. I was very impressed with the staff and Dr Dee. My dog was treated with loving care and she was happy to return to see all of her new friends. Dr. Dee was very thorough and found several cancerous lesions. She quickly got additional tests and referred us to a wonderful specialist. She was supportive, informative and caring; all the qualities needed during a stressful life event. I called this clinic to ask one seemingly simple question about one of my dogs who seemed to have been bitten by a bug of some sort. Before I even got to the question, I was asked if they'd ever seen my dog. When I answered no, I was told in a very rude fashion by a woman with an English accent, "I can't talk to you unless you're a current client, call your own vet", and then abruptly hung up on. We just moved to IB, and were still researching veterinarians, they lost any possibility of our business with this one phone call. We have two dogs, whom we love very much, I wouldn't even dream of going to this veterinarian who wouldn't even hear my question before hanging up on me. Very unprofessional. read more

We just moved to San Diego and decided to go to seacoast since it's so close to our house for our puppy and affordable. They have a great puppy package. However, he was diagnosed with a parasite in his stomach and was put on medication from 2 months to 5 months (no break.) and nothing seemed to help his symptoms. My gut feeling told me something else was going on so we went to another vet.. Turns out we just had to change his diet and there were no parasites! We spent way too much money. Although, I am sure their intentions were good we are just a little frustrated with the unnecessary medications our little pup had to get. My fiancé and I are deciding to stick to the vet in Coronado. Yes it's more expensive, but you get what you pay for. read more

Mixed review depending on the vet you get. Dr Dee and staff are super nice and understanding. Dr Dee understands that maybe you can't afford hundreds on dollars on tests for a 14-year-old dog, who, let's face it, doesn't have that many years left. She'll discuss options with me and lets me make the final decision that makes sense to both of us, with my financial situation in mind. And my dog is doing pretty well, considering he's 14. Dr. Elinor, on the other hand, was really condescending during my most recent consultation. She wanted all these expensive tests when I described the symptoms of an old dog who's always been super anxious, and when I said no, she refused to renew my dog's pain medication. Really? The dog is 14, in pain from arthritis, and she won't let him have the pain meds he's been taking for a year? I feel like I've just been extorted. read more

I agree with many reviews here that this vet is all about money, unnecessary tests and driving up costs. Her bedside manner is terrible and she treats pet owners like we are idiots that can't properly give our animals medications. I spent many hundreds of dollars on testing at Dr. Dee's recommendation for my 14-yr-old cat, only to have no diagnosis at the end beyond what we already knew, that he needs to continue his thyroid meds. Otherwise he is very healthy for a senior cat. When it came time for biannual bloodwork, she refused to renew his simple thyroid meds without new bloodwork first. At first glance, this may seem appropriate call, but the issue was I HAD an appt for new bloodwork scheduled with her for Thursday of that week and merely needed to refill his meds on Monday so he wouldn't run out and be off medication (that he had been on nearly two years). ONLY three days in between and yet she would not refill - as though I was going to somehow use cat thyroid meds incorrectly after two years. She finally consented to filling a few days only - but ONLY if I paid for a full 30 days of meds. And if I took him to a different vet for the basic bloodwork and brought the lab results to her, she would not give me the remaining prescription I had pre-paid for! She said she would have to do bloodwork herself, even though a respected pet lab had just done the work that same week. This vet clinic is all about the money - the pets health is secondary and I don't recommend Seacoast to anyone. If Dr. Dee truly had been interested in my cat's ongoing health, she would have let me purchase a refill of his simple thyroid meds to keep him covered until his appointment three days later. I ended up switching vets completely and a great side effect at my new vet is the pricing was MUCH more reasonable and the care better. The new vet took my cat's whole health & quality of life into consideration. read more

A year ago last Oct. I caught a feral kitten at work and brought it to Seacoast for it's vaccines and vet care. Little Horse is now a beautiful, sleek adult neutered male, living with my daughter. Last month I caught another feral kitten at work. This one had health issues that were life threatening. With the help of Dr. Dee and staff, I think we have little Halo on her way to a long healthy life. I think Dr. Dee sincerely has concern for the animal. Therefore when she suggests every test it's up to you as the customer to decide what you want to spend to care for your animal. She's only human. I trust her to do the best she can with the support she is given. read more
