Okay folks here is the update. I was invited back by the owner to order the lobster dinner which I did. He asked me not to reveal that I had any problems before, to prevent me from getting any special treatment. I checked to make sure there was Lobster in the house. My meal came and my guests meal came. Everything was up to par. There were supposed to be gift cards left with the cashier that were not there, but after a phone call or two that got straightened out and my meal was comped, as promised. I had the blackened cobia sandwich and crab bites appetizer for lunch today and have nothing but good things to say. The fish was fresh, flaky and blackened to perfection with a filet that dwarfed the bun and the crab bites were a mixture of all the right ingredients, fried golden brown with a hint of spicy. First time was in 1997 on a visit to Jacksonville. Every time I came back to visit I made it a point to eat at SK. Moved to Jax in 2007. It's a bit of a commute because we live on the other side of town and Jax is huge, but we average at least once a month to SK and whenever we have friends from out of town who are looking for good seafood.. The ambiance is working class, the food is delicious. Never have had a bad experience whether the place was empty or packed. Servers are friendly and work hard for their money. The combination platter is a steal and has something for everybody. Their tag line "Where the locals eat." You have to deliver with that tag line, and they do. read more

Worth 5 stars. Not a fancy place to go dressed up...but the whole experience was great. Servers were knowledgeable and honest. No frills "slap the food on the table" service. Raw oysters on special and were good. Trigger fish was as fresh as server advised it would be. Bottles of tarter sauce on table. Not those pewnie portion cups. When server noticed we drained our sodas she brought a pitcher to the table. Asked for lemon...she brought a small bowl of them. I'll go again for sure next time I'm in town visiting daughter. We hemmed and hawed about this place or a higher class joint next door. Not knocking the other place cuz I never been there, but it was a super seafood meal at a reasonable price. read more

Growing up I loved family trips to the beach. Fondest memories are of local seafood restaurants where you got quantity, quality and hospitality. This place is it, right down to the old style paper place mats with tourist highlights of the state. We eat here often and are never disappointed. Always several varieties of fresh local caught fish and plenty of combos to choose from. Melody, our waitress today was special. Friendly, attentive and welcoming. The owner is a fisherman and knows the best of the local seafood. We will look forward to gong again and again and again. read more

Rude service. I called to order pick up and the woman taking the order was rude and hung up. I asked how long until its ready and I heard dial tone. I thought ok... probably busy, not a big deal. I get there, pay and get my meal. When I get home I realize after biting into the fish that it is raw in the middle. I call to tell them I want to return the food and get my money back. Again, the manager was rude and tried to give me a free meal credit instead. I said no thank you, I wont be back so I returned with the food to get my money and she was STILL GOING TO HAVE ME PAY for the baked potato!! So I have to make a SECOND trip back and I was going to have to pay for the potato?!? Seems to me a free potato would be worth the ruined dinner and inconvenience. I have worked in the service industry myself for 15 years and I can tell you without a doubt this is not the way to treat your customers! Bad food, bad service. I will not return and will be sure to tell anyone I know that wants seafood to go ANYWHERE except here. On a good note, hushpuppies were delicious. read more

Oh Lawd! This place is good. Lots of good food and any dinner plate on the menu can be blackened or grilled (instead of fried). Oysters raw or steamed are $7.99 for 12 Fri-Sun, cheaper on the weekdays. Large portions, great sweet potatoes, awesome hush puppies. Extremely reasonable prices. Cold beer on tap. Horseradish is on point. Sweet tea is NC native approved. They give you everything, don't even need to ask. I wish I wasn't just passing through. read more
