We really enjoyed our first visit to Jax Fish Fry. We went late on Friday night. About 35 minutes before they were going to close. They were happy to make our order even though they were already cleaning up. I had the fried cod with coleslaw and fries. My husband had the fish tacos and clam strips as well. Both of us very much enjoyed our food. It was cooked fresh. The french fries or steak fries are cut thinner than steak fries and are kind of scooped out a little bit. They were very good and perfect for ketchup and other sauces. I'm always glad when a fish fry place has malt vinegar available. That means they're serious! Lol. The fish is lightly breaded and very flaky. The coleslaw is creamy and sweet. I didn't try the clam strips, but they looked good! And the tacos were very tasty! The restaurant is super clean! And the restrooms are super clean as well! It's a very plainly decorated eating establishment, but very comfortable as well. We went here for lunch last week because my dad had a hankering for a fish fry. It's been a minute since we've visited Jax Fish Fry, so I was excited to try it again. They are located in the plaza on 210 where Grumpy's is located (but it's tucked away in a corner back by the cigar bar). They have some yard signs in the plaza that advertise a $10 lunch special. When we walked in, we went to the counter and checked out their lunch specials. The $10 lunch special includes a main, fries, and a drink. Some of the items on the lunch special were a fish fry, fish tacos, clam roll, shrimp roll, etc. I ordered the fish tacos, my dad ordered the fish fry, and my mom got a clam roll. Everything was made to order. Our items came out roughly 7 minutes after we ordered. For $10 you get a sizeable fish fry, for $10 you get two fish tacos and a plentiful side of fries, and the clam roll was chockfull of clam strips. The fish was perfectly fried. It wasn't heavy, it was light and crisp. I loved the addition of the remoulade sauce. The fries were delicious. I would definitely come back here again. read more

I've been to this establishment, which is not in the best location multiple times. The owner flies his fish in from Massachusetts regularly. Everything he makes seems like it's homemade. I know his wife makes all of the desserts which are outstanding. Today we tried the Keylime pie. My wife said it was one of the best she's had. Make sure you give this a try. read more

This restaurant is located in the Fountains shopping center on route 210. Upon arrival I was greeted by the owner, Roger, who is very friendly to every customer. The menu offers six seafood handhelds as well as five seafood baskets. The baskets come with fries and cole slaw. I had the Cod basket and really enjoyed it. It was two good size pieces of fish along with a delicious basket of fries. The fries are more like a round slice of a potato that is deep fried. They are addicting. The cole slaw was also tasty. Consistent as usual. First time at the new location and it is as clean and consistent as the original on Baymeadows. Dori runs a tight ship and makes great hires. I arrived after lunch peak period (intentionally) and as usual, food was prepared fresh and fast with friendly service. A few folks wandered in sporadically but during some down time, I noticed the staff cleaning and just keeping busy and productive. I had the COD bites and added some shrimp to go with those crispy but fluffy fries. They're no ordinary fries as they are shaped a little like Fritos scoops - best comparison I can think of - so they get a lot of crispy coverage but have just the right thickness to still provide a pillowy texture. I had the lobster roll, i personally like it better than the ones I've had in Boston there's a bit more seasoning. I know this place is more of a New York roll but I like that better than a pound of mayo or just a cup of butter personally. My husband had the cod and the tender roll. I've been hearing wonderful things about this restaurant and wanted to try. I would encourage management to take phone orders or take out, I was around the corner finishing a doctors appointment when I called in, I was told they don't take phone orders, while not the end of the world, it's an inconvenience for people that are on the run and need to pick something up quickly. Always a delightful experience! We've been here numerous times since they opened in October as well as their first location on Baymeadows location. The lobster roll basket is always our go-to. Delicious cold chunks of tender lobster meat nestled in a warm soft potato roll. So good that I just had to order another to indulge later. LOL. We also tried the fresh shrimp and fish baskets. Love that the batter is not overly thick, golden to perfection and pairs nicely with their homemade tartar, cocktail and Jack sauces, all with a nice kick! Excellent home style fries cut on the premises and vinegar-based coleslaw comes with the baskets which makes it an excellent meal. Make room for Dori's fresh desserts too! If you are craving chocolate, we highly recommend the Chocolate Treasure. OMG so moist that you'll want your very own! LOL. It was great to see Dori and Roger again at the Grand Opening of their second location !!! Staff was welcoming, hospitable and super responsive as always. We ordered two Lobster Lover's Rolls and a Fried Cod Basket. Make sure to get lots of the Jax Sauce and Remoulade (enjoy this for the Onion Rings) while waiting for your order. Food is consistently delicious and the only disappointment was Dori's moist, savory and uber DELICIOUS Chocolate Treasure Cake wasn't available due to oven issues on opening day. Dori noted oven was fixed and that she was baking tonight so we will be back again tomorrow to partake of some of THE VERY BEST Chocolate Cake in Jacksonville !!! Like the Baymeadow location, this is a counter service store. Walk in and grab a menu. Small menu to choose from. Place your order and pay. Wait a few minutes and your food comes out fresh. Pick up your food from the counter and grab some sauces. Seating inside and out. Nothing special but was clean. The food is good. I got the fried clams which were good. Only issue with the clams is that as I worked my way through the platter, the clam pieces got pretty small. The onion rings were good My wife got the lobster roll. Had to try Jax Fish Fry because I love a good lobster roll. I want to compliment the staff both ladies working were fantastic! The lobster roll was good but not great. Had plenty of meat just not enough flavor. Wife agreed with me for first time. Now the French fries were very good that I ordered another side of them. Key lime pie is worthy of 5 stars. I will try the fish fry next time. The place was spotless very clean. Food was very fresh made right in front of me. This place has the best fried seafood! It is so lightly battered, you get the full flavor of the fish without all the grease and breading. I ordered the fried cod platter and my daughter got the fried shrimp. Both were delicious! We are already looking forward to going back and trying some of the sandwiches. read more

We went on a quiet Monday night and everything was perfect. We enjoyed speaking with one of the owners (in today's world this seems to be a rarity). The quality was the best of any fried fish and shrimp, onion rings and fries around the area. The value for the quality is on point - especially for this style of fried seafood. Dori - you need to be careful about lying in public. While I do admit to getting one free sprite in the small plastic cup - I did not linger at the beverage machine nor did I ever top off the cup nor get a refill. Didn't go anywhere near the machine after I got the initial beverage. Total lies that your videos will show - you are lying publicly about me. I tried a small (very small) bite of coleslaw and it was not to my liking - left BOTH coleslaws uneaten. Also, while I wasn't overjoyed with the inability to swap out both fries and coleslaw (finicky about coleslaw) I was not upset or rude etc with your employee. You also fail to mention that I paid a $1.50 more for the one order of onion rings that we were able to swap out instead of fries. Stay away from this restaurant- they don't address the problems and then lie about the guests. I challenge Dori or anyone from this company to share the videos and full audio of the conversation between my wife and I - since you have it all recorded should not be a problem (just blurr our faces). Just don't edit it and let the chips fall where they may. Will hear our conversation about how horrible the food is, will see the greasy removal process, the uneaten fish, discussion on under cooked fish, bland hush puppies, bad onion rings.... that I only went to the beverage station once and only got one drink, etc., etc.. Also, as we threw away our trash/left food, we noticed that the trash cans were completely empty. No one else was in the restaurant when we were there, and perhaps we were the first one there today. Don't remember the exact time, but think it was about 2pm. So draw your own conclesions.... Really taken aback by your reply and lack of, have to call it what it is, lack of honesty and transparency. First things first - the food was great, I might go back again this week in fact! Fried fish was practically perfect and the wedge fries are a chefs kiss pairing. I also enjoyed the fried oyster roll and fried chicken. My wife's only complaint was that she said the fried shrimp had almost no batter on it. Im wondering if this was an oversight, I didn't see it myself. So why 4 stars? I am a dad on the go and lean on the flexibility of being able to call in an order. Unfortunately, they dont accept orders online or over the phone because people were picking up cold food and writing bad reviews. Look, I get it but almost didn't order here at all yesterday because I had my two kids with me and didn't know how long it would take. I believe there are solutions that ownership could consider such as letting people who order on the phone know that they will start food preparation when they arrive and to text a number for curbside pickup. Or another option would be just reminding ppl who order over the phone that it only takes 5-10 mins so and asking that the person ordering will be there within 15' or so. This is my 3 rd or 4 th visit to JFF over the past few years. In the past I would have given it 5 stars because I had nothing to compare it to in the area as my expectations for getting fresh Maine lobster in Jax was pretty low. Let me say I have enjoyed my lobster roll from here in the past but this time I was not completely satisfied starting with the size of the roll. Not only is this the smallest hot dog roll I've ever laid eyes on it had zero flavor. It wasn't toasted. It wasn't buttered, it was meh. On the plus side the lobster meat was tasty but the roll was way too small which meant there wasn't much meat as well. I had recently had a lobster roll from another shop ( see my reviews) and found it far superior in size & flavor. I also ordered the fish & chips basket for my husband. ( Did I mention this was a to go order?) His review was " Don't get it for me again from there." When I asked why - he compared the price to the size order of fish that he has had at other more upscale places & the taste as well & decided he'd rather have his fish & chips from there. JFF will be having some competition moving in I have heard. I hope they will be able to match the competition & step up their game or at least their roll. read more

First time at Jax Fish Fry in St. John's off 210, and I am a big fan already! Upon walking in, you notice the restaurant is absolutely spotless. We were greeted by the owner Dory and started to browse the menu. My friend and I both wanted lobster rolls based on the rave reviews we've heard before. It does smell like a fish fry and even though we sat outside, we absolutely smelled like fish afterwards lol! Just something to note if you are planning to go here before somewhere else. We each ordered a lobster roll that came with fries. We also got an order of coleslaw and hushpuppies, and waited outside. They came out to call our name when the order was ready. The lobster rolls were STACKED with fresh lobster meat. The biggest surprise was how amazing these french fries are. They are a cross between chips, and potato skins, and fries. So crunchy! I am not even a french fry lover and I would go back just for these. The lobster roll was delicious too! We enjoyed everything. We spotted the dessert case when we ordered and decided to treat ourselves after lunch. I ordered the key lime pie, and my friend ordered the strawberry cheesecake (special of the month). The owner told us these were family recipes and all of the desserts were made in house. The key lime pie was amazing! Seriously! I loved the graham cracker crust all the way around the tart.
