Seafood Kitchen was the very first place we stopped after landing in Jacksonville, and it was the perfect introduction to East Coast seafood. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, we have pretty high standards - and this place delivered. We came toward the end of the night, and while it was still busy, there was plenty of seating available. The atmosphere is no-frills and laid-back - like a classic seafood shack you'd find at a coastal fish market. Nothing fancy, just fresh seafood done right. The raw oysters were fresh and an absolute must order. Since we visited during the winter, I also warmed up with a bowl of clam chowder, which really hit the spot. We also tried the boiled oysters, served hot and charred, and they ended up being everyone's favorite. We all eat oysters and seafood pretty regularly, and even we were surprised by how flavorful they were. If you stop by, don't just order the raw oysters - get the boiled ones too so you can experience both. You really can't go wrong here. read more

While the service I received was really great the food just didn't hit for me. Bland is the word I would use to describe it. Not bad exactly, but certainly not inspired. I tried to start with the Smoked Fish Dip but they unfortunately were out of that so I pivoted to a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. It was served with two stone cold hushpupies which added nothing. If you can't serve them hot you are better to not to serve them at all. The soup was also a miss for me. I could decern very little clam flavor amongst the potatoes. Just a miss for me. The special of the day was a Shrimp special. I ordered it fried which was probably a mistake in retrospect. While they were nice shrimp the batter was again not spiced at all, none. Food is fresh, fast, and filling! The decor is not super fancy, but it is hometown cozy. Everyone is friendly. Today, I went with my Mom and Auntie for brunch. We started with fried mushrooms (Be careful, they're hot! Cut them open first to let the heat out. Haha - don't learn the hard way, like me. Hehe) We tried the trigger fish (catch of the day), the snapper fingers, and the grouper bites. Comparing the fish, they were all delicious. Also had the special (Wed) of $9 oysters dozen. SO fresh! This location is a small place with maybe about 10 to 12 tables. It is kind of rustic. The service is good. We came in late - they close at 10pm. We ordered fried shrimp, fried fish, loaded baked potatoes, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. There are other choices like oysters, clams, French fries, sweet potatoes and salad. All dishes come with tartar or cocktail sauce, crackers, and the slaw is in little containers on the table in a basket. Food is cooked to order and served hot. Nice portions. I had about 16 shrimp. Place was great. Don't let the strip mall location fool you...we had the colossal low country boil as 2 adults and 2 kids (12/10) and it was fantastic. We did not get an appetizer or sides which we might have needed if we were all staring but we finished everything and it was great. We've tried places in the Panhandle, Low Country, Savannah, East NC, MD...this was just as good as a local hidden gem. Highly recommended. read more

I went in on Monday because they advertise 30 % off for all military and first responders. It say because we love our Military. One person I had the Original low country seafood boil which consisted of 2 pieces of corn which is 1 whole ear of corn 1 sausage link and 12 shrimp that the peal was so tight the meat was coming off with it and I had an order of fried mushrooms and a glass of tea. My total plus tip was 52.00 with tip. No 30% discount. I asked, I thought there was a 30% discount on Mondays? The waitress said that's only on certain things on the menu. So I thought maybe I just overlooked it, no I had AI do a search of the internet and it clearly said Mondays 30% off for Military and first responders. We love our Military my ass! A long time favorite for Jacksonville beaches locals. A lot of folks drive from town to eat here too. Small and sometimes crowded but worth the wait if you show up at a busy time. Their service is fast so tables usually turnover quickly and the wait time is usually shorter than what they quote you. Not a fancy place but good seafood, prepared well and fair prices. Can get most seafood items fried, broiled or blackened. Portions are large so ask for the lunch size portion if you are not that hungry. Lunch portions are still generous and I often ask for them during dinner hours. They have a good variety of fish (grouper, snapper, flounder are among the regulars) and also have catches of the day duck as triggerfish or sometimes wahoo. Blackened wahoo is my favorite but if they don't have that the grouper is good too. Of course they have shrimp, scallops and oysters as well as some specialities such as fried whole scored flounder or snapper which are very good if you like that sort of thing. They also serve beer and wine. If you haven't tried this place you ought to. I always take out of towners here to get seafood when they visit from landlocked areas. Never had a complaint yet about the food, some say a full bar would be nice but this place is just too small for that. read more

I had the shrimp platter and my friend had the lobster and oyster specials. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. My fried shrimp wasn't overbreaded as can often be the case. It's the best I've had in a long time and I've tried a lot of the local restaurants. My friend was beyond delighted with her lobster and oysters. Fun thing they do is provide a largish trash container for shells etc to be tossed into. Also her dishes were served in large aluminum trays that gave ample room to make a mess, as one does with her two dishes. She was delighted. Definitely where the locals eat! The place was packed when we walked in but we scored a table quickly. This is NOT a chain restaurant - the tables are old and beat up and the overall ambiance is a bit lacking, but we came to eat, not decorate! Melissa was our server and she managed to handle us along with many other tables. We ordered drinks - two seasonal drafts for me and a rather passable Cab for my wife capped off with a Miller Lite and water for our table mates. Sinde we really wanted to get seafood platter, the Seafood Kitchen won the decision. At 2:30 pm, the place was still quite busy and we got the last table. The inside is really nothing to look at. Just some tables and decorations. Service was good. Our waitress answered our questions about the menu and then took our order. I got the 2 choice platter. Fried Mayport shrimp and broiled grouper with a baked potato and cole slaw. The slaw was typical. The bake potato was super hot and stayed hot the entire meal. The shrimp was excellent with just enough batter and a good size. The grouper was also tasty. It also comes with 2 hush puppies. I happened upon this seafood restaurant in Neptune Beach. It's quaint, friendly, and the hospitality is great. They provide a lot of seafood options. All of the seafood is fresh. I don't typically eat a lot of fried food, but if it's fried food you want they have it here. The calamari was my favorite menu item and the greens. The fish could have been seasoned more, but I understand to accommodate the masses less is best. They have garden salad options which were also tasty and fresh. On vacation from Arizona and went to two other tourist traps before I found this gem. The fish, food was all amazing as well as the service. Only problem was the clam chowder, but they credited off asap. Order everything and anything else. Ambience was great for a little hole in the wall. This was exactly the restaurant I was looking for. There seems to be ALOT of employee turnover here. I frequent Seafood kitchen often because my Mom loves to eat here (sometimes multiple times a week!) I've seen numerous wait staff come & go over the past several years. Could possibly be the median age of the staff vs the avg age of the customer group. Young vs older Restaurant is ALWAYS busy. Food is good and never enough room to finish it all! One complaint about the food --- the raw oysters have been ridiculously small the passed few times we've ordered them. Personally, I feel like the ambiance is lacking. I feel like the restaurant is so small and they try to cram as many people in as they can at the same time. My mother brought one of our mutual friends here on a whim and they both loved it. I was skeptical of the place but that was only due to my own ignorance. She wanted to go back here for her birthday and I was open to the idea, what the heck. I'd check it out. In the past, I'd head over to The Fish Co. and not even give this place a second thought. I've changed this line of thinking since then. The place inside was pretty small and real hole-in-the-wall looking so in my mind right then, I knew the place must've been good. Seeing their awards on the wall quickly shut me up. Also, I didn't know that they were a sister restaurant to OP Fish House. Now you have my full attention. We sat at a four seater in the corner near the front. The staff is really sweet. Our server recommended their Mimosas to us and the Berry Mimosa was right up my alley. Mom had a sweet with lemon and they brought her extra lemons. The server even refilled her tea when it was half-way full. Talk about attentive. We started with their mozzarella cheese sticks which were meh but still good. I had decided before I got to the restaurant that I was gonna try their Triggerfish if they had it available and luckily they did. I don't remember having it before but now it's on my list of whitefish I like. This fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly. No blandness or burnt-ness. Also shoutout to whomever did the collard greens because they were on point! My mom was afraid to order them as a side with her Stuffed Shrimp dinner due to knowing that "not everyone knows how to prepare and cook'em right". These were super cleaned and nicely seasoned. Our food took a little longer than normal to come to our table but our server let us know that the chef apologized for the wait. She stated that he had to do a big, complicated order ahead of us so he comped us desserts. Much appreciated. I took home their Key Lime pie and much of the meringue on top melted, but I happily ate it either way.
